How to raise the volume during calls? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my father can't hear so well during calls he has (NOT ON HANDSFREE MODE) from time to time...
I would like to know if there is anyway to raise the volume during the calls on the speaker - which is for the ear (-Not "Speaker mode\HANDSFREE")
Thanks.

Guide to boost audio! - involves editing the mixer_paths.xml
Some custom kernels allow to raise the audio levels. Using Kernel Adiutor-Mod (my preference) or probably normal kernel adiutor from the play store go to the "Sound" section and you could boost it. Not sure if stock kernel supports or not.
Also you could flash A.R.I.S.E. audio or V4A and they allow the volume to be increased.
So there are a couple different options, not sure which would be the best. Good luck!

Thanks a lot!
The major problem is the rom. The current ROM is the official one (Marshmallow atm'), not rooted and the regular recovery.
Any other option without the need of a different rom/rooting or changing the recovery to TWRP?
thanks!

You might try Phone, Settings, Accessibility, Hearing aids.I don't know exactly what it does, but it might help.

Considering the file that needs to be altered is on the system partition anything you do will require root access. No way around it.

In case I root the phone , how am I gonna raise the volume then?

you can edit the system file that controls volume, you can install viper, you can flash one of several audio mods provided by guitarhero, there are many things you can do...
but until you are rooted, there is nada that can be done to raise the built in volume levels

[MOD][addon.d] Silent Camera

This mod gets rid of the camera's shutter and video start/stop sounds. There are many easy ways to accomplish this, but the big advantage of this mod is it includes an addon.d script.
What is addon.d?
On some ROMs, like Cyanogenmod, there are scripts in /system/addon.d that run during a ROM update or flash. They can backup and restore system apps (like Gapps), or perform many other functions. This mod includes an addon.d script, so the mod is not lost during a ROM update! If your ROM doesn't support addon.d, this mod should still flash properly, but you won't benefit from addon.d.
Tested and Confirmed to work on:
I'm not even going to bother listing ROMs it works on, as this is such a simple mod, it should work on any AOSP based Android 4+ ROM, for virtually any device. Let us know if it works!
Install Instructions:
- Boot into recovery
- Flash Enable zip
- Reboot
Uninstall Instructions:
- Boot into recovery
- Flash Disable zip
- Reboot
Downloads:
Enable-SilentCamera-1.4.zip
Disable-SilentCamera-1.4.zip
Changelog:
Code:
1.4 - 2/20/13
- Renamed addon.d file (not an important update)
1.3 - 12/23/12
- Minor compatibility fixes
1.2 - 12/22/12
- Initial public release
DISCLAIMER:
This mod involves editing system files. Use at your own risk! Also please don't forget, before you report ROM related bugs in the ROM developer thread, you should remove this mod to make sure the issue is not caused by this mod!

It should. I have not tested it, but worst case, it just won't work.
Thanks, works on xylon rom!
Good job.
Think you can cook something up to use the power button as a shutter?
Only N4 or all devices on jb?
I'll give it a shot on One X soon.

Nice... would it be possible to use the volume keys as the shutter key in the camera app?
How would one go about doing this without using a 3rd party camera app like Camera Zoom...?
It is just easier to delete those camera sounds from /system/media/ui/

But when you flash the next nightly, they will be back again. Since this mod uses addon.d, it "sticks" through rom updates. That's really the whole point here.
Working here on AOKP 12/22/12 :good:
Updated zips. Just to make it more compatible with ROMs without addon.d support (if any exist).
I've just added this mod to the Nexus 4 Complete Index

Not to be nitpicky, but there are several ways to do this and flashing zips are the most troublesome method.
putting the phone on silent
tasker task to put the phone on silent when the camera is launched
rename or delete the file with a root browser
change the permissions of the file with a root browser (to 0000)
Don't get me wrong, I am all kinds of appreciative in your efforts to identify this sound, but flashing zips is probably the most drawn out and laborious method for this.
Yes you have to have root to do most of these, but who has a custom recovery installed that doesn't already have root?

I think you are missing the point. The entire point of this mod is it supports addon.d. Manually deleting or renaming the files does work, but the next time you flash a ROM update, your sounds will be back. With this mod and addon.d, when you flash a ROM update, it automatically renames the sound files for you.
Not everyone wants to buy tasker. Not everyone wants to remember to put their phone on silent before snapping a photo. But if those options work better for you, don't use this mod! This mod is just another of the many ways to accomplish this. Nobody said it's the only way...

this is one of the least laborious methods if you flash ROMs on a frequent basis and don't use tasker. yes, you can put your phone on silent, but this silences the phone regardless. the root browser methods may not survive flashing new ROMs unless you prepare a script like the OP did.

1. I don't like the shutter sound. I don't want to go through a hassle of putting the phone on silent everytime. What happens if I'm really super tired and the shutter goes off by accident?
2. I don't want to download a app when I can just flash a ZIP ONCE and be done with it.
3. I don't want to rename or delete the file everytime I flash a ROM. OP added a script so it stays there after each ROM update flash (only time you have to reflash it is when you wipe factory and start over with a new ROM)
4. This is more of a hassle than flashing a file once.
Flashing a zip isn't troublesome at all, especially when you have to flash it once. If flashing one zip in your lifetime of that rom is troublesome, you shouldn't even be flashing anything on your phone.
Great work OP. Very helpful until CM adds a toggle for silent camera (if it ever gets added back in).
Some people flash a custom recovery and are not rooted. It's the only way to manually apply OTAs (from Galaxy Nexus).

HTC One boom sound after root

Hello all...
I have a rogers htc one.. I unlocked the boot loaded n then rooted it.. However after the root I've notice that the volume on the speakers and if I were to plug in earphones (tried different ones) is not what it used to be before rooting.
If volume is set half way it is not as loud as it used to be..
I've tried the stock music play... Then I installed other players and still the same issue..
Maybe I've gotten used to the boom sound that I find it normal that it doesn't seem xtra ordinary anymore?
Has anyone had this issue?
Also doing the root.. I've notice that I don't have access to the calculator app in the app drawer.. Even though the I have access to the calculator widget...
Any help would be great and I thank you all in advance...

You probably updated the phone in the meantime to the latest OTA, because HTC decided to lower speakers volume in last update, to prevent them from being damaged, but they said also that tuning the right volume is still a work in progress and it will change in upcoming updates

Install it normally if you are still on stock, even if you are rooted I think you can still install official otas (someone correct me if I'm wrong please), but I'm not sure so search before doing anything, and for the updates, I believe there was many updates since the version shipped with the device, so maybe you've already done one of those updates and now it's simply showing a new one?
what's your current software version?

currently i have the following sft installed
android 4.1.2
soft version 1.29.631.4
htc sdk api level 5.1.2
its asking me to update to 1.29.631.17 and it says this update is for system enhancement...im in canada btw.
i know for a fact that with custom recovery OTA doesnt work...
EDIT: ok i was right...with custom recovery OTA doesnt work...another fellow canadian is have the same issue.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293528
but if anyone can help with the boom sound
If you want to install an OTA you have to relock your bootloader. If it's just volume patch you are after you can easily flash a zip to fix it again. If you want the zip just let me know

unlink ringer and notifications

I have xposed framework installed, and using motoXposed. I want to unlink ringer and notification sounds, I know that Gravity Box can, that's maybe the only feature I would use from it.
As I'm still learning what works best, wondering if that's the best choice, or if anyone knows if there's another, maybe "lighter" mod for what I'm looking for I just don't want to mess it up, as I'm not very experienced with ADB, Fastboot and RSD (I know, I need to learn in case I have to restore to stock, etc)
Appreciate any help

Thanks, was reading that in the description, which sounds good. Reading up on Fastboot and RSD Lite (in case of a bootloop, etc) realized the other day this is my first phone without a removable battery (luckily only had one brief bootloop in 3 years flashing on my Samsung) but fearing it with this device, as I'd be worried while I'm trying to figure things out and it's in a bootloop... as I would guess, or at least "looks" like it's bad for the phone

I believe if you use a root explorer you should see a flashable xposed framework Disabler zip file located on your sdcard. I haven't had one issue with xposed framework, just had to do a rsdlite flash yesterday due to a bad flash with a cm10.2 ROM , I couldn't restore my back ups as they failed and flashing any other ROM resulted in boot loops.
Xposed is safe and if you end up in a boot loop due to xposed just flash the Disabler zip

Thanks, xposed does sound pretty safe. I'm used to having custom roms, custom recovery on my old phone. I'm still learning with only being rooted, don't have safestrap, so no cwm, etc, presuming I can't flash a zip file with just root? Reading a lot, but still a learning curve for me.

Device is dead?

Greetings,
I'm stuck in a very bad place with my Nexus 6 and was hoping someone could help me out of it. I obviously made a grave mistake in doing this so I'm hoping all is not lost. Here are the steps I performed that got me into this mess:
1) Downloaded the latest root .zip file from Chainfire, which notably, does not have a 6.0.
2) Flash Stock ROM to the device Marsh mellow 6.
3) Phone booted up just fine, I then unlocked developer options and then selected allow oem updates.
4) performed a reboot to the bootloader.
5) This is where I went wrong: executed the root-windows.bat script.
Now when the device boots I get an error stating the device is corrupt and cannot be trusted and it immediately shuts off.
UPDATE: I've re-flashed the marshmellow rom on to the device and now on boot I get the same error about the device being corrupt, however, the volume buttons allow me to select "Continue" and it's booting!
Thanks!

1. use supersu v2.5 or v2.51 for root, not chainfires old .
if you flash marshmallow via factory image, via fastboot. boot up, then back into your bootloader to flash the twrp . flash the recovery, then boot into the recovery and flash a custom kernel for marshmallow, and the supersu file. tgen boot up with root. that message is something that everybody gets. it because of your unlicked , just ignore it.

they both are fine. elemental uses a different installer that gives you options when flashing via twrp. despair would be simpler. plus, youll need to downliad a kernel control app from thd play store. there are many free and paid versions.

yes. you can flash a rom that has them included. you do not need root to flash a recovery, nor do you need root to flash roms/kernels.
Root is a necessity for since I need to block ads. So basically for Adaway.

you do not need root, but you need an unlocked bootloader and to fastboot flash twrp recovery(so you can flash roms or kernels). the only thing that you would need root for is an app to control kernels. but if youre not into controlling kernels, then no root is needed
I didn't even root my phone on Lollipop. Made a few changes in recovery, and had custom recovery, but that was the extent of my changes.

I unencrypted and the only benefit I see to not having root is that you can do OTA's but since unencrypting and custom recovery took that away I might as well get root and enjoy viper4android, ad-block, custom kernels, play music exporter, no nag tethering (yes I pay for it, just hate when the checking subscription stalls cuz AT&T can't be bothered to fix it), etc.

I know that, but it will be eventually.
Titanium Backup.
Pretty much the same reason to root L.
Can't think of a single root function that's now stock?

With the new features in Marshmallow, what are the remaining reasons to still root it?
Thanks.

If you're not sure if you want to root it, then don't.

App permissions management used to require root and is now stock on 6.0. That's the first thing that pops into my head....
