Any Custom ROMs with WiFi calling? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know it has been asked before but it looks like it's been over a year. So I'm just wondering if there have been any custom ROMs developed yet that keep WiFi calling/text?

FireKat and Poprocks do. All TouchWiz based roms should. Aosp will not.

Most ported N7 / S8 roms will not (it has to do with them having been first ported overseas, usually in China). One - TWIZtd Note 4 rom (as opposed to his other roms, he mentions this) - will do wifi calling quite nicely.

What are the problems with custom ROMs for i9305?

Hello,
I'm about to get the i9305, I basically got that I need to stay with the samsung roms to have a fully working device with no bugs.
Even though I'm not a fan of touchwiz (in fact I prefer stock Android) I could try some ROMs (not based on stock) but I read that they will never work properly due to lack of sources code. What are the things missing or that will never work?
I'm coming from the LG O2X that drove me crazy cause the stock roms sucked sooo much and we (users) had the same problem but custom roms with NVIDIA!
I'm going with this phone cause it's the only one I know that gives me:
- good battery life among latest smartphones
- 2GB of RAM
- REMOVABLE BATTERY
- 42Mbit in 3G
for that price. So maybe I thought that having touchwiz is the price to pay to have these specs at this price.

Well, most of the ROMs for the Galaxy S3 I9300/I9305 are stable. Because the developers make the ROM based on the official update from Samsung. If you want a stock looking ROM, install ROMs based on AOSP like CyanogenMod, AOKP and Paranoid Android. AOSP ROMs are fast because it is light, no bloatware. AOSP ROMs are quite stable though.
Other than ROMs, there is also some custom kernels, Most of them are also stable. To me, I like the Perseus kernel by AndreiLux because it saves my battery life. The highest I have got are about 2 days unplugged with 5 hours of on screen time.

for example, camera quality is worse
If I remove bloatware (if possible) from Sammys ROMS will they be as fast?
No problems with Sammy based ROMs, so don't worry. They are stable and smooth. Use Titanium or other (root) uninstaller to remove bloatware! On benchmark tests, you will get lower results comparing to 4.2.2 ROMs, but you won't noticed that in everyday usage! I am the one who loves CM based ROMs, but some problems with network are good reason for not using them at the moment. :fingers-crossed:
you will notice the difference, AOSP ROMs will be smoother than debloated Sammy ROMs, so the choice is yours
but aosp roms will ever show problems on this phone ;(
yes
are the other phones affected too? like i9300 and Note?
yes
Flashing custom roms has pros and cons no matter what the phone.
I just like flashing new roms

Some AOSP based ROMs have quite a few bugs though, that's keeping me away from them.
Does the LED indicator work on custom roms? Especially CM. I care about notifications mainly.
Everything works like a charm. You can use some free app for more options (I'm using "Light Manager").
I wonder if the recent fixes for the camera released for i9300 will be applied to i9305 as well

I was talking about AOSP roms, I believe that is based off Sammy ROMs? You said non-sammy ones have problems with network that it's keeping you away from them
Yeah, I said that, but I am on Sentinel ROM v4.40 at the monent, no matter on that "network problem" I have with all CM 10.1 ROMs.

[Q] Just got an unlocked Samsung s4 Active!

Phone is great and already rooted it. I wonder, should i install a custom ROM or keep the stock one? What are the benefits of installing a custom ROM on the active? In the past i always installed customs but for the Active i'm not sure i need it at the moment. Thoughts?\\

There are countless articles on the benefits of Custom vs Stock ROMS. I personally love CM10.2 that I currently have installed on mine. I'm waiting for CM11 but that looks a while off. If you leave it stock, though, you'll easily be able to update to 4.4 soon. I personally HATE the touchwiz interface, but I'm jealous of some of Wanam Xposed's capabilities. Other than that, you've said you've already used custom ROMs before...

I've installed nova, and themer and about me. all amazing interfaces. also found a workaround to enable wifi tether. what else can i do on a custom rom on the S4 Active that's worth reverting from the stock? I'm just trying to see if there's anything major i'm missing right now.
Also, i've noticed there's very little dev action on here compared to the S4. Is that because not a lot of users have it? or because S4 roms can be used on the active?

There's less action here because the Active has less users. S4 Roms are similar to the Active and can be, in a way, "ported". They are NOT interchangeable though.
Nova and Themer don't require a Custom ROM such as CM. CyanogenMod is the most common Custom ROM so I'm going to focus on that. There are other good ones for this device such as SlimBeam and Smasher X.
Here is an article with the Top 10 Reasons To Install CyanogenMod.
While the above article is a good article, it doesn't go into enough depth about it's Customisations and Usability tweaks which are (along with speed) the main reasons that CM is my choice ROM at the moment. For example, if you find that the auto-brightness is sometimes a bit too high or a bit too low while using your Android device, you can tweak this to your own specific perfection. There's hundreds of little tweaks like this built into CM that essentially make using TouchWiz afterwards somewhat frustrating.
In saying that, a lot of the things you can do on a Custom ROM can be achieved on the stock ROM through things such as XPosed framework with modules such as Wanam Kit or other third party apps such as All In One Gestures, or tasks created in Tasker.
I will also be doing a guide on how to get the AOSP Android 4.4 look on your stock TouchWiz Device.

Where are we at porting international ROMs?

A lot of questions are being asked in the 920F threads about T-Mobile functionality. Thought we could use a centralized thread for folks to pitch their ideas, thoughts, and solutions. Mostly we know that in call audio is borked when using on a 920T. @Goldie has made an awesome custom rom called "Alliance". And @mikeyinid is crushing it on the TMO forums, hopefully, we'll come to a solution soon.

I'd love to know more about this as well. I'm on a Canadian W8 with Telus and would really like to give @Goldie 's ROM a shot. Or at least something similar.
Guys. I know you wanna be able to run international roms, specifically Alliance, but you don't need to keep tagging us. I know goldie and his guys are looking at it, I've messed with it a bit and all I get is phone fc's. I don't know enough to be any help for this.

Time and testing! And it's way more involved than JUST the hardware. If that's the case just flash the current alliance and live without, volte, Wi-Fi calling, oh...sound during calls which no one needs in there phone. [emoji6] Remember once you port it, then guys will be b,,, itching about this and that and complaining like the devs got 10% of what they paid Samsung for this phone and stock Rom and owe them something. These same complainers are the ones that lack patients to wait for the Rom to be thoroughly tested to be as stable as possibly...I am no dev, but it doesn't take a dev to understand how time consuming a Rom like ALLIANCE is. Plus the continued support in threads for multiple devices!

the note 3 and note 4 had issues - not the same - but issues when attempting to use international roms on TMO phones - eventally some one came up with a flashable fix that you could flash after flashing an Interntational ROM on TMO _ that is what I am hopeing for - and maybe one day someone will do it.

Not international, but the alliance rom for the Tmo S6 Edge works on my Tmo S6 with the newest Ktoonsez kernel. At this time though, we should support the guys developing in the TMO threads. They put in a lot of hard work and make a great product.

I agree wholeheartedly - but for the sheer variety of being able to flash any rom made for the S6 - I am hopeful a flashable fix will be made soon - in the meantime - alliance for the TMO S6EDGE works awesome with Ktnoonze's kernel - great rom!

Considering to buy a (used) I9305 - Custom ROM support in general?!?

Dear Folks,
I'm considering to buy a I9305. Actually I wonder how well the general custom ROM support is? I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S5 (I900f) which I don't like. The phone itself is awesome but the problem is that Samsung didn't provide (any?) documentations about the phone. Therefor the only good working ROMs are the TouchWiz ones - there're a few nice ones out there, but anyway, since Samsung doesn't seem to bring Android 6 (M) to the phone it's gonna be dead soon.
People told me that it's a completely different Situation for the Samsung Galaxy S3: You've got a good custom ROM support and a lot of them work with every funtion the phone provide with almost no bugs - is it the same for the S3 LTE? Do the ROMs work well? Are there good ones (Cyanogenmod and SlimRom are my favorites)? Is it likely to have a good custom rom support with Android 6 as well?
Thank you so far!
cRaZy
Hey,
the easiest way to see is to check the ROM section.
It differs between the i9300 and i9305. There is more development going on for the international S3 than the LTE version. But thanks to rodman providing most lollipop ROMs for the i9305.
What's good and what's not is a matter of taste and need. But I recommend slim, resurrection remix and cyanide - the latter two are based on cm with lots of features cm is missing.
About custom ROMs and android 6 - we don't know yet if we get any ROMs. It all depends on the devs.
All right, thank you a lot! By good I mean ROMs which only have a few bugs (if any). GPS should be working as well as no extensive battery drain. I'm quite satisfied with very simple ROMs as long as they're smooth and have (almost) no bugs. That's what I'm talking about. The situation with the S5 e.g. is very bad if you want a non-TW-ROM.
GPS is working on all, battery depends on usage of course but with most ROMs you'll get through a day.
Camera is kind of a known issue. Sometimes it loses connection but I never faced such problems. Mhl is not working due to missing sources. Everything else is working with common CM bugs on cm based ROMs.
All righty mighty. That sounds kinda okay for a daily driver. The thing is I'd like to use the phone as a daily driver. If e.g. Slim Rom 5.1.1. is working nicely I've got no problem using it for another two years. I guess most Apps will be working with Lollipop in the near future.
Last but not least, 2400 Mhz is not covered which might gimme some LTE issues in germany, right?
Yeah most ROMs are totally fine for being a daily driver.
I'm not sure about LTE and its frequencies. I'm using Vodafone and have no issues.

Any good ROMs out there?

It seems that even though the n5 sucks, the n7 sucks, n4 gets little to no dev love. I haven't seen any good roms in a while and everything I try that is MM based either has horrendous lag or the worst battery life.
Is this phone just dead as far as rom development? I tried what I thought was one of the best roms, Overdrive, and it lags worse than my Old ass Evo 4g running Gingerbread.
If you don't like any of the ROM's just stay stock. I'm running MM stock rooted with a few xposed modules and nova launcher with an icon pack. Very simple setup, very smooth and stable. It's Android, customize it any way you want! Good luck

all the development is going on in the Note 4 Snapdragon international xda forum. it works with the n910t but some roms need a data fix.
im currently running the Norma Note 7 port with data fix. everything works except the fingerprinter scanner and no tmobile WIFI calling.

they are different depending on the rom u choose, you have to find a rom first and then somewhere in the thread a data fix is normally posted.
