MOB30H - memory leak - Nexus 5 General

Dear Nexus 5 users,
Please contribute to this issue by starring it. Google has drove off a cliff yet again. This had been fixed in March's build, but it returned, don't ask me how.

Hownabout in mob30m?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app

I'll monitor it. But I highly doubt they fixed it in this build.

According to them, it's been fixed: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=195104#c21

For me its fixed on MOB30M. Running smooth since 3 days..

It's not fixed. System UI is already at 200mb average, after 235h of uptime.

my Sytem UI isn't growing on RAM with MOB30M (max is 81MB), but I have to note I'm using elementalx 6.17. Or do I need something specific to trigger it?

Obviously I'm talking about stock software..

This goddamned System UI memory leak was still present in MOB30P.
Let's see if it persists in MOB30Y...

Maybe that's a little OT, but why wouldn't you install custom kernel like blu_spark or ElementalX? It's 100% safe and you will see the difference. Unless that's only problem in ROM, not kernel, but I don't think so. Overall, there is nothing to worry about flashing custom ROM or kernel.

I don't know what's the root of the problem, but they had it fixed in March's build, so they know what to do.
I don't tinker with my device because the bootloader is locked, plus I like staying stock.

Yeah, bot unlocking bootloader is as simple as installing apps from Play Store. And what you will do when Android 7.0 comes and Nexus 5 won't get it officially?

Yeah, but it will wipe all my data.
When Nougat comes, I'll look for a stock AOSP ROM, without modifications. Don't want root, or anything like that.

Maybe you should consider upgrading to (at least) the 5X, 6P or one of the new Nexus devices if you want Nougat straight from Google.

Didn't want the 5X for only having 2GB RAM with a 64 bit chip, plus it's significantly larger than the N5.
The 6P is gigantic.

People, I've filed yet another bug report about this issue.
N5's support is about to expire, and people will be left with extremely buggy software in hands, forever.
I urge you all to star this and see if they give a damn, for the last time: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=221473

Still unsolved.
Goddamnit Google.

Android 4.4 Source being released

Here we go again, gentlemen start your engines...
Android 4.4 Source
Source is now being pushed to the AOSP trees. Of course, when it is all there we will begin the process of figuring out what changed, needs work, and/or is no longer feasible or needed.
We are not in a rush to get 4.4 builds out . We are going to continue the process of working on CM 10.2 M1 - getting that out the door and onto your devices. Further, we will 'finish' the 10.2 code base, similar to what we did with 10.1.
As a friendly reminder, please don't flood us with requests for 4.4 - we all want new and shiny things, but we will not do so at the expense of abandoning the hard work our contributors have put into 10.2.
Final note, a lot of folks are reading into the "512mb" item on the release notes. No, this does not mean a sudden resurrection of older hardware, there are dependencies beyond the RAM (and CM has enforced that minimum since ICS).

The website says it is a feature of 4.4.. I am not sure if it would require dedicated hardware or leverage off the accelerometer. An accelerometer measures vertical acceleration, a pedometer simply counts these measurements (from my understanding)

I've compiled ROMs for my old 2011 samsung budget phone, not that hard to compile, and there's plenty of guides to go by, once you get it set up and a full build (first build takes an hour or two) you gotta debug and test which for me is hard as heck lol, hopefully well see ROMs by next week

It is a normal image, not a zip. Flash using fastboot. Looks like N5 and N4 merged image from google website, clear, untouched. Works like a cherm for me!
internal memory such as picture and document will be lost?
if you dont want to loose everything you need to delete the data partition from the occam-krt16s.zip in the tar.gz file!
EDIT: will make a second version for users which dont like to loose data stuff

Is it hard to integrate .sh file with ROM? I am still experiencing issues with WiFi connection at home. I have TP-Link TL-WDR4300 and since I got my Nexus 4, it always had some issues with connecting to WiFi. Some ROMs have the newer driver integrated but Google still uses old one. Here is the link to newer binary, but it is hard to integrate it. Even on rooted phone. :/

Nice work man!
As you reffer to the rom like a alternative factory image. Just some noob question:
I need to root to flash that rom? Or I can install it throw adb just like a normal google release?
Can relock my bootloader after the process is done?
Do you think I will get OTA updates from google after flashing that rom?
thanks man.

Do you have a build with the most recent ColorOS 4.3. I'm curious because I'll be looking to port out the framework and whatnot for the 50mpx camera app on the Find 7.
Is there a certain recovery you have to use cause it's failing for me. I'll try to write what the fail part is.

I hope to not touch 4.3 at all after this is done and move onto 4.4 firmwares right away; 4.1-4,3 is mostly the same, but 4.4 is very significant and is much better for a lot of reasons.
I'm pretty much at the point now where if I'm source-building 4.3 for this device I'm doing it for every device I maintain with these custom firmware ports; I can't justify 4.3 at all since MIUI is almost 4.4 for the 'general population'
Edit: On some devices it actually is, I won't do it until it's pushed to MiCode though

I'm actually on 2632 and it does that. Okay so you think that's why I can't flash bean stalk as well. I get a error regarding the binary. Okay so I'll flash back a recovery and try it

Im not sure about Beanstalk cause that's based on 4.4 so "should" work. This is based on 4.2 so it needs the older Twrp

You can edit the updscript to remove the device lines too but i didnt bother and kept it stock
can I instal it on OTA 9.30.1 locked bootloader
Hi it seems that the 926 topic is a bit more active , yea so I wanted to ask you guys, if it's possible to root the device, i tried with tons of methods of JB or SuperSU flashing and that stuff, the su binary gets deleted i think each time by the Color's OS kernel maybe
I'm using the CWM recovery, btw I tried also with the TWRP recovery
Edit 1: it works now, cause i found this, thanks

Cheers, People
It's so fast, i can't even see it.
I will, as soon as some good soul builds a pure stock AOSP ROM, without any modifications (root, busybox, zipalign, deodex, etc).
Just flash a stock Gapps ontop of it, and it will feel like an official Google update. Oh god yes.

As soon as the source code is uploaded to AOSP, I'm sure it'll rain custom N roms here.
Since google hasn't released the source code, wait and see

Do we know when the source code comes out?
This thread is unnecessary considering there is no official/unofficial ROM available. So no one can share their experience.
BUTTTT... as i go through my android feeds, i miss the experience of flashing the latest build of Android on N5 and play around with it. The sense of excitement of having the latest version on my phone where as the remaining phones around are still running the old version. Now, im still running an old version (Marshmallow)

Pardon my ignorance, but, if someone builds from AOSP without modifying anything, and apply the device drivers from the Nexus images website, what's to be wrong?
Isn't that what Google does, besides loading Gapps package altogether?

Yeah, there's that. Luckily Nexus 6 uses a Snapdragon 805 chip, so the devs should be able to adapt to the 800.

nope, it is quite a bit different.
what will be done is use MM drivers until they dont work, then we will use CAF drivers(since the msm8974 branch on there will still be updated for n+)
