WiFi SSID priority in MM? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's there any way I can specify priority of one SSID over another in MM? Is there an app or some other method?
I have Xfinity Internet service, so I am able to access any Xfinity WiFi network when I'm out. My home router therefore has both my home SSID and the Xfinity open one. If I'm out, and therefore sometimes connected to Xfinity, I come home and it automatically connects to Xfinity instead of my network and then I can't access my network.
I know I can just tell it to forget the Xfinity SSID, but if there was some way to tell it to always choose my home network over that one, that would be better.
Thank you!
BTW, currently running TEKXodus Hybrid N5 URv8E if it should matter.

Connection lost while using WLAN

When i use WLAN the 3G/GSM connection is lost after a few minutes and i have to reboot the phone to get it back. Does anybody know why this might be? Could it be the Radio?
I think its turning it off because your connecting to the internet through the wifi, when you disable wifi it should re-enable the 3g connection, but if it doesnt you can turn on the data connection...
thats what it sounds like is going on from your post. When I turn on wifi it will drop the data connection but has always reconnected to it once I disable wifi or I go outside of my wifi's range and something try's to connect to the net...
Yes, it is logical, you could not have opened two types of connection concurrently. One type closed another one.
ive had the same problem, when i connect to wi-fi i lose the data connection and it doesnt let me browse until i turn wi-fi off...i dont understand the point of wi-fi if u cant browse with the speed since the data connection is lost?
Thanks men! By turning on the data connection after i used wifi it reconnected!

What Wifi allows you to do us connect wirelessly to another connection, at home its my DSL, which is much faster than the edge network, and if I did not have an unlimited data plan wouldnt add to my phone bill. In that way its very usefull. Seeing how its faster and available at home or in places where your cell signal might not be strong or available you can use it to get online.
But you need to tell it your no longer using wifi for it to reconnect through the network to deliver data to you again.

ok so when it comes to wi-fi im a big newbie, i have a tmo wing and have flashed (upgraded) rom...i also have dsl at home how is it i can connect and access this...when i search for wi-fi it usually only picks up my neighbors connections never my own...?
If you have a wifi router or your modem has a build in wifi option you go into your modem to set it up. Most modems / routers come with it broadcasting the SSID so you should see something (usually the default is the name of the manufacturer)
If you have your paperwork you can open your web browser and type in the address to open the internal OS and make changes as you see fit. For example mine is a linksys and its default address was http://192.168.1.1, most routers used to default to that but since a lot of modems are coming out with build in os and firewalls they have that IP so routers can be changed like mine. Once in the OS you can set up your pw so no one else can play with your settings
Navigate to the Wireless section and there should be a bunch of settings. I renamed my WiFi name to match my home network, and disabled the SSID broadcast. Then changed the chanel for some of my other devices, if you dont have anything that requires this leave it alone. Then enable WEP or other protection, 128 bit wep is pretty decent and anyone hacking through it will probably be disappointed with your lack of juicy goods.
Once you have the SSID and the Key encription you go to your phone and mirror the information into the WiFi settings. The web will be a 26 or so string of letters / numbers that will equal the password you set. These must be typed in perfectly or it will not work, took me 6 or so tries to get it typed in correctly but once its in you wont need to do it again unless you reset the phone or change the network settings.
If all that goes through open IE on the phone and hit up google or something, if it loads your online.
Thats a jumbled and messy tutorial, I can fix it to be more user friendly if you need me to do it, but with you not seeing any SSID but your neighbors your wifi is either non existant or disabled...

thanks for the quick reply, ill give it a try...might need the more user friendly version lol sorry
Its no problem, the biggest thing will be weather or not you have a wifi router or modem. Then depending on the brand the IP you have to type in to log into the modem. Each router / modem will have paperwork with it that tells you how to do it, some are different but thankfully most are the same.
The un is usually blank and the pw is usually admin, sometimes now they dont even put one unless you specify it. Once your in the OS its pretty self explanitory, there are lots of things to not mess with, but in the wifi area you can look over my post and figure most of it out,
if you get hung up on somethin just post what it is and ill see what I can do

[Q] Connecting to home wifi network with repeater.

Has anybody had any success with this? I have a wireless N router and just got a wireless N repeater in my home.
My captivate will connect just fine to the network when the repeater is unplugged. However, when I plug in the repeater my phone's wifi connection starts to act funny. I connect to the wifi and have a very strong signal, but I am unable to do anything on the internet. Web pages won't load, Pandora won't connect.
Long story short, the phone sees the network, but it doesn't know whether to communicate with my router or my repeater.
All other wireless devices on my network seem to work fine with the repeater, it's just my Captivate that is having this problem. I have no other phones to test it with, though.
Are you running stock? I seem to recall it having an issue with netmasks that weren't 255.255.255.0. You may want to check netmask in both the router's settings and the phone's Wi-Fi settings to ensure they match.
Is your NAT filtering turned off on both devices ?
Thanks! I'll look into both of these options when I get home tonight.
I'm not running stock, I'm running Cognition v2.3b6, btw.

Wifi calling

I can use Wifi calling at home just fine on my T-Mobile HTC One. When I am at work the Wifi calling is very flaky probably due to whatever enterprise router they use here. Is there a way to tell the phone not to use Wifi calling when on a certain SSID (in this case my work's)?

I can only think of two things:
1. Have your phone ignore that SSID
2. Change your WiFi calling preferences to Cellular Network Preferred while at work

Any way to store multiple networks logged in?I

I was wondering if there is a way to skip network registration everytime we switch places so that each network could be stored and just connect and play?

I've always wanted the same thing. I take one of my chromecasts with me to travel so it switches networks a lot. It would be nice if it remembered networks. Also it would be nice if you could some how sign into guest wifi pages. Right now i'm using the MAC address spoof trick.
Maybe it could get added to Eureka ROM?
The easiest solution is to get a travel router. Let your travel router remember the various networks while setting-up both your device and Chromecast to remember the SSID of your travel router.

It actually does remember (it gets stored into the supplicant file), but it doesn't seem to use anything but the most-recently registered (first?) one.
That would be a nice add for Eureka-ROM, if either
available networks could be checked for connectivity and one that's available is chosen (like phones do)
be able to select another stored WiFi profile from t he web panel (so you could choose the correct one for your destination before you get there)
For now, @eKeith's solution is the easiest.

Note 8 not connecting to Xfinity Wifi

I have a Note 8 running on VZW and my device won't connect to my XFINITY wifi network at home. I tried changing the password encryption to one of the solutions below and I even changed it to open, and it did not work. I also tried changing the IP settings from DHCP to static and that didn't work either. I connect to other wifi hotspots and wifi but not my home. Also, however, I have other devices connected to the wifi just fine. I cannot seem to find a solution to this issue.

Maybe try setting your wifi to a different channel on your router?

is it your home network or xfinity hotspot network
I am a actual xfinity mobile and home internet user
For the life of me I can connect to my home networks but not my home xfinity hotspot also broadcasted from my router. It shows up,I can click it,But never connects....
I also have issues with other xfin hotspots.
Not all but some
It is my home network that my note 8 won't connect to, but it connects to other networks, I believe something is blocking it.

Now I know they got that xfi crap have you gone on your router and xfi app and allowed
Yup I went through all that and the admin tool and nothing. I turned the firewall temporarily too to see if the problem persists and it does.

I would bet it's something stupid on xfinitys side. Last I can think of is a full reset of the router....back to stock. Is it the xb3
