S5 marshmallow issues - Galaxy S 5 General

Has anyone updated to marshmallow? I recently did and noticed several features I often used gone...first the power saving mode is changed and does not turn your screen grey anymore to save battery life. Also I often used power saving mode when I wanted to quickly charge my phone (this would charge the phone much faster than not having it on)and this feature is also gone bc the phone will not allow you to use power save and [email protected] time! Another feature gone is being able to quickly preview a text in the notifications bar without going to the text. However the greatest issue is that all my music and video files have to be opened individually instead of being in a large list...Also I cannot use the app but have to go thru the sd card folder topopen each file one by one I'm using the stock Samsung video player and music player...is there a way to fix this it has to be an issue with marshmallow bc I've tried 4 different sd cards and it worked fine before the update to mm..? .if anyone can help please lmk

MM is one of the best update which s5 received.
Yes greyscale power saving mode is gone
Stock Video player & music player is working fine on my device
Try clearing cache and data for both app
And try if it works out for you

I have greyscale power saving mode on mm.
Tapatalk S5

okti : how do u have it? Whenever I do power saving mode it stays in color plus you can no longer charge while in power saving mode...This helped me charge my phone super fast compared to color mode...
yash92duster: Clearing the cache and data did nothing...I still cannot access my music or videos that are on my SD card through the stock samsung music/video player...The only damn music/video files I can access are the ones that are on the phones storage but not the SD card!!!? Can someone help as to why this is happening?

Not on MM 6.0.1 it's gone 100%

Greyscale
Go to developer options , click simulate color space and select Monochromacy. It will give you the grey scale you looking for. But not sure how much power saving that will give.

I dont know about you but for me it`s worst. I`m on official software(dbt-germany G900FXXU1CPEM), updated via ota system update. It looks the same as 5.0 but it says it`s 6.0.1. .I get ~1-1.5 hours of screen time (on 5.0 i had ~3 hours). If i use the phone for more than 3 minutes it gets hot, never happend on 5.0. Except for the new animations and icons it`s nothing new for me. Even the notifications panel looks like old 5.0(with green icons not white like in 6.0.1.). Also battery is charging a little slower, it took 1.5 hours to get from 30% to 100%.

There are many S7 edge ported roms for S5 G900F
try them
It makes the device better than stock

My biggest issue is the Battery Life. It is fluid-smooth esp. with games, but at the expense of sucking every bit of battery. Tried a lot of Marshmallow Firmwares from many regions but all have this issue with the battery life. I hope Samsung fix this.

Don't know if this will be any help, but personally speaking I DO NOT update by way of OTA's. I had a bad experience with my S2 Skyrocket (that I still have) and ever since I flash stock firmware thru Odin, but only after I install a custom recovery and do a data, cache and system format. I presently use a G900M (Latin America.) I just updated to MM from KK about 4 days ago, CWM recovery installed, rooted, debloated, Xposed installed, and I must say my device is running quite fine.

[Q] Restoring to Stock (not just factory wipe)

Hi, i recently bought an optimus 4x hd and i was shocked about the battery life of it the first week. with the same usage pattern it lasts half as long as my old desire hd, tho it has double the battery-capacity. then i tried some power tweaks from the dev section, lg gearbox app, removing lg stock apps and so on. now the phone idle takes 30 % of the power, and android system takes 40 %. i am using the 10h european firmware and now the hole phone is almost unusable.
is there any way to remove all added apps and scripts to get to the real stock state ?
i mean factory wipe in recovery doesnt delete everything, the 4.2 system clock i installed is still present after wipe for example.
right now this phone really freaks me out, nice hardware with a *poop* of a firmware on it. if i would´ve known theres no android development for it after all before buying it, i never would have made this mistake.
if anyone is feeling the same of having solutions, please help.
i would also like to do the same as my o4x keeps rebooting by itself and going back to home screen when using apps when on google play and web browser.

there are (as far as i know) three ways to do it:
1) (my favorite) restore a cwm backup you made before you've flashed the tweaks
2) flashing the kdz files
3) emergency restore (or sth. similar) by the lg software
so, good luck :good:

My advice is, downgrade to v10a, factory reset, upgrade to the desired version (probably after downgrade the software update will ask you for upgrade).
Guys this worked for me. Connect mobile in software download mode by connecting your Mobile to PC by pressing volume down button without battery and launch lg software tool, go to recover mobile option enter imei number and when your mobile model is confirmed replace your battery and then update. Done you will have official version and Updated version.

KitKat Quick Glance

As we all note kitkat has been out for 2 days
My quick impression is that it isn't good
LAAAAAG in launcher (Not Lockscreen nor apps) (GPU Rendering isn'T very effective)
Battery is being killed
Camera seems to worse in low light condition (Will post an comparason later) and slower
No update for the stock apps (Xperia blog has those)
Post your Impressions below How do you feel
Update:In NUT's recovery don't enter TeamWinRecovery for me it caused an refuse boot
had to connect in download mode (Without flashing anything)
Opening PhilzTouch recovery and booted from there to system
I find it quite responsive after the initial lag in the settings menu and bad battery life.
What's really annoying me though is that I can't find a tweak which enables expanded desktop properly. Despite KitKat apparently natively supporting expanded desktop mode, Gravity Box for some reason doesn't want to work properly. It worked perfectly in 4.2.2. So I'm hoping someone can make a working version.
Another test
if you use the voice message of FB Messenger your mic gets locked
and you will have to restart your Phone to make it work
i've had kit kat for two days now on my xperia zr no root, locked bootloader. I have no lags, everything works quick just like 4,3. The only issue is that google play services drains battery like crazy (at this very moment is on 87% on battery use ) :/
There is an xposed mod
Called Force imersive mode try it

What Rom? I am thinking of switching ?
Carbon or BeanStack ?
kitkat
I don't see/feel any problems on my C5503
running smooth
Any Major difference in terms of functionality between 4.4 and 4.3 except the Theme Color? If not I'll stick with 4.3 itself:victory:.
Also Please provide the Walkman, Gallery and Movies APP Version in 4.4
I'm kinda surprised with all ur reviews here coz I don't have any lag issues whatsoever.
I'm using a prerooted version of .230 on my C5502.
The phone is responsive, I got a decent antutu score of around 21225 and the battery barely drains.. I had a perfectly flat battery graph for abt 4 n a half hours (of course I wasn't using the phone but that also means it's going into the appropriate power mode effectively). And even when I was using it, I got a decent full day of use out of it.

Carbon is good but Mokee is officially supported and offers much better functions IMO eg. split screen screen recording and awesome handy shortcuts from the recents menu... i am using stock 4.4.2 sony for now but i am already missing Mokee..
in any case if you want to move back to cm/asop/akop i would recommend Mokee but don't get me wrong i still love Carbon Rom.
I think i'm getting 20% less battery time on sony kk

I noticed lag and heating issues at first install but if you leave it for a while it seems like it fixes itself.. I would say it uses about 20% more battery than maybe a cm rom..
At first I thought that being with my own home made rooted version was the cause of the lag. In the z forum I read about wiping data and factory reset and also reboot a couple of times. I have to say that the lag is gone. I like the Kitkat version so far. I even made it deodexed and put z2 app in the app folder even that works. So if you can find the new updated apps it is possible to get them working.

I Reflashed with Flashtool With Wipe Data
and then a system restore Everything is fine now (Even without touching GPU rendering)
early morning rant
How do I feel?
Honestly, as free beta tester for Google that's how.
I'm not even considering updating to stock KK, yet. Would rather move to some fine working custom ROM like Carbon (need to check first if VPN is working) or CM.
- It used to be, flash stock, one-touch root and voila.
- Now, it's TA backup, BL unlock/relock, flash, recovery, flash, flash, tweak this, mod that, xposed, gpu render, battery drain, oh lag, oh camera is slower, oh more emoticons, OH COME ON!!
I know it's not Sony fault but those hipsters from Google.
With killing external SD support, at the end and in the future, it smells that stock Android will work flawlessly ONLY on Google hardware. That's a pure BS.
You mean Mobiles with no SD card*
Yeah, basically all Nexuses, mob/tab. Good read here
I think it helps to keep product life cycle short. The Apple philosophy.
Okay, after a few days use I'm getting major lag when unlocking the phone. When I input my pattern, the phone responds with the vibrations like 3 seconds later, and THEN it unlocks. After that it's completely fine, and feels a lot snappier than 4.2.2. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Mine is great here
I have pattern and unlock it is very fast. no lag at all.
My phone 5502 is working flawlessly. No lag and no battery drain. didn't want to root so i don't risk loosing my apps and data. i upgrade directly by flashing an ftf file over 4.3 with flashtool and no wipe.

After upgrading to Tizen......

Hello, I recently updated to TIZEN and I must say that I LOVE IT NOW!!!! Wayyyyyy more apps, clocks, features, customizations and and enhancements, plus it seems to be faster!! Android OS had Very little apps/clocks etc, so it got boring real fast, not much you could do with it, plus there were not going to be anymore updates or apps added so i figured i would go ahead and update to tizen.. Just wanted to share my experience if your thinking about upgrading or not..

So you need to revert to stock in order to do the update to Tizen? I still haven't decided yet. I need to read up what Tizen can or cannot do compared to Gear stock and then Null ROM; and working non Samsung phones as well.
I havent played with it as android OS , bought it and went direct to update to tizen , its watch not phone , it so tiny cant do alot , and Samsung Market got most of things i want.If its works alone without phone , you may need to do some tricks and roots for it , but phone always be with ya , play with phone and keep watch stock
didnt find anythin interesting to go android that beats Tizen for That gear

No you don't, upgrading to tizen will erase EVERYTHING as it will also change the bootloader of the watch You'll have to update from Odin while entering the watch in download mode, so again NO you don't need to revert
Hope this helps

To be frank, I have only one thing that I really miss and which is kind of a dealbreaker for me is the fact that you can't record more than 15sec in 720p, at least on android you could do 1min, and SVR was really convenient to record without others knowing it lol
Tizen = 0 app, Android = 500000000 apps. I love null rom! Thanks @fOmey

In the mean time check out the app Sprocket on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-gear/themes-apps/app-sprocket-sms-mms-file-transfer-t2804294 . The Dev has been updating it and just dropped an update the other day, I also have an Alpha of the next release which should be any day which fixed some FC issues for me. Anyhow he has the notifications from the device showing up on the Gear and most of them are interactable like music apps and my remote app. Basically if it has functions and stay on your phone notification, then you can control them via Sprocket. Also on the next release he has the Whitelist so you can turn off unwanted notifications. Right now I have Google Now notifications on the gear. Plus you can transfer files and install any apps from your phone on the gear. And a full sms/mms function on the watch, but it's not very easy to type on the gear unless you have google now working offline or you tether to your phone.

I would probably check out whether you have a faulty battery, the general consensis is battery life is better on tizen. My gear rarely saw more than a day of battery life on the stock kernel with android, but with tizen I frequently only use 30% per day.

I've also just moved back to Tizen and was getting not so good battery life. I followed someone's advice to reset the gear in recovery and it actually worked perfect. It's 200% better after doing that. I also reset in Tizen, then booted to recovery and it automatically resets. I did the recovery reset 2x though just to be sure. Anyhow good luck. And if you haven't done the reset in recovery please try that.

yes - I've done the reinstall GM and reset in recovery several times.
My battery life is worse than the original firmware from last year.
I'm trying to figure out how to get it back to where it was last week with the previous GM and Android.
I also face some problems with battery life. But the problem appears not always. Sometimes it use 30% per day, but sometimes it discharges in couple our hours. Seems like some of the processes drains battery. Any ideas what?

Anything that may be using the camera or motion to wake would drain battery. Also I do frequently double tap and hold with 2 fingers to bring up the task manager and close all running apps just to be sure.

Good day. I have Gear 2 and is on Tizen and my battery life on the stock standard and standard watchfaces is 1.5 to 2 day. I have recently changed the watch face with a nice custom built one and then this change drained the battery within one day. Thus my conclusion, the fancier the stuff you load the more operating power it use and then it drains the battery. Also I had the Gear1 on Android. Android in my opinion use more battery life by meas of operating power.

[Q] Fresh install of Slimkat lags terribly, what can I do?

Third Android phone and also 3rd older phone I've upgraded to 4.x. I basically went from stock, rooted, switched to new BL and fixed internal storage all using the O2X AIO tool, and finally flashed Slimkat (this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551925).
It was great for about 30 minutes but then started to slow down badly so I froze a bunch of packages I don't use and have frozen on other devices without issue (using performance control tools). Speed went back up. But 30 minutes later it's back in the crapper. We're talking 30 seconds from power button to lock screen showing up. Stock camera takes a good 2 minutes to be ready to take a picture. Just now I was trying to set something in GPS Test and literally the statusbar clock was at 11:00 until at least 11:03 before I was like ok battery pull.
Anyone have any suggestions? Did I miss a step? I've been through all the related posts and everyone seems to love Slimkat. I'm coming from phones even older than this so I'm used to slow but come on...
Really appreciate any advice! Thanks!
Edit: I should mention I have installed FB Messenger with some modified permissions, Gmail, Now Browser, Root Browser, and Touchpal keyboard... That's all.

I think that the memory is maybe running full, FB Messenger isn't always the best on memory usage/Battery usage and about the other apps I dont know, But There are apps which are resyncing, rerunning and which stay in background so it doesn't completely closes even if you do so.
Thanks for your reply! Actually afterward I switched OOM to aggressive (or something more aggressive, can't remember). Seems to be a lot better. I don't care about battery, I just want speeeeeeeed Oddly enough I still need to "double tap" the power button (!) to get it to wake. Weirdest thing.

That's all.

I had the same problem, so I had to uninstall it.:crying:

A few questions about the 6.0.1 update

So I am a bit burned from updating my s5 mini (last time it just updated itself to 5.0, my battery life and performance shrunk and it wouldnt even let me disable bloatware).
Here are my questions:
1. How did the battery life change from 5.0;
2. How did the peformance change from 5.0 (including in-apps, opening them and regular menu opening/scrolling);
3. Is USB-OTG now supported?
1. Battery life has improved a lot, at least for me. It seems that Smart Manager is really doing its job and I'm seeing an improvement in both standby time and SOT. With a few tweaks here and there you can improve the battery life even more.
2. Everything feels smoother, there are some updated animations and transitions that really make the phone feel like new.
3. No, OTG on the S5 Mini has never been and never will be officially supported by Samsung. There is a custom kernel that enables OTG but it most likely affects the water resistance capabilities because of the exposed USB connector and also it's somewhat of a risk to use anything that requires power on a port that was never designed to do that.
One of the few drawbacks I noticed just today is that the auto brightness seems a lot less responsive. For example it's very sunny today and most of the time when pulling the phone out of my pocket the display was still stuck on low brightness. It might just be a conflict with xposed or something else I'm running. All in all I recommend that you update, I skipped the 5.1.1 update as well but for different reasons, 6.0.1 is pretty good.

What model are you using? I'm using the GH800F.
How big is the change? And I've heard that 6.0.1 gives you less performance for more battery. Is that correct?
Sorry, I'm just scared of updating because I don't want to lose all of my data for another let down like 5.1.1 (that literally just enabled itself out of ****ing nowhere and I lost everything).

G800F as well. Like I said, I've noticed a big improvement in battery life. Just make a backup of the important stuff on your phone like contacts and photos and try the 6.0.1 firmware - I recommend you do a clean install via ODIN.

Alright, as long as the performance hasn't decreased (especially in games) then I'll update.
Since I've got most things on my SD card, can I just remove it from my phone, update and put it back in?

Yes, backup everything you don't want to lose to your card, wipe the phone from recovery and install a fresh 6.0.1 firmware with ODIN. If you don't like Marshmallow you can always go back to KitKat.

That's the problem, I can't revert. I tried doing it with 5.1.1 but it just wouldn't let me. I tried multiple times, on multiple PC's with multiple USB wires. (which is why I'm so nervous).
P.s. So if I remove my card, installl 6.0.1 and add it again it'll work?

You should be able to revert, if you can't then there's an issue with something - maybe you haven't updated the Samsung USB drivers?
Yes, it will work. Backup your contacts, messages, photos, videos, anything you want saved on your card and pull it out before you update if you're so nervous.

So I just updated and it's been sitting at "samsung" for the past 5 minutes. Why?

The first boot takes ~15 minutes, be patient. Check out threads about the Marshmallow update you'll find a lot of useful info.

Oh wow. This is just...
It is so sluggish like wtf...
Also be aware that marshmallow ****s up your gps big time. if you're only using it for rough navigation it's fine, but don't expect accuracy as a pedestrian
Hi, i flashed stock MM TW comming from CyanogenMod 13. My battery life seems worse than before with CMod... What should I do?
Before upgrading to MM I did a benchmark test (AnTuTu) on 4.4.2 for comparison, ran the same test on MM and here are the results.
Thanks for the test. A more meaningful one would be to compare Lollipop 5.1 with MM 6.0.1 as most S5 Mini users have Lollipop installed.
I have a question about the MM 6.0.1 update. I flashed the new rom al updatet and seemd to work perfect. Then i noticed, the battery life was very poor. So take a good look at what was draining it. During the day it seemd okay, then when i got home it started rapidly draining again. I managed to figure out that when i am using 4G/LTE everything is fine but when i am home and change to my wifi, my screen turns on every 3 minutes or something and it complety unlocks as wel. because i have my screen time set to 1 minute it stays that way then turns of and about 3 minutes later turns itself on again. When i disable wifi the problem is gone.
Has anyone a idea how to fix this? i live at the border of my country and without wifi its gonna be expesive with roaming costs ....
Thanx in advance for your reply's
Hi, I'm using Germany (DBT) firmware.
I usually use Ultra Power Saving Mode.
Then after turn off Ultra Saving Mode, e-mail application is asking me "admin priviliages confirmation" for each time. (only for Exchange account)
My flashlight don't work in the dark after the update to marshmellow.
Tried another from play store, the same issue
DBT firmware

I had the same issue. Resetting the app worked for me. (btw. I googled that)
"Anwendungsmanager", "Kamera", "Speicher", "Daten löschen" und "Cache leeren".
Since you said you are on the DBT firmware, I assumed you are german.
I'm on 5.1.1 not rooted with g800f. Should I update to MM with Odin first then flash the custom recovery? Thank you!
