When there is something magnetic in your pocket the phone is activated by the magnet sensor.
When you carry the phone in the pocket with screen turned to the skin then the phone is activated by yourself, because the screen is capacitative.
Belt case ?

Turn the screen away from your body/skin.
The proximity sensor works when activated after dialing to turn the screen OFF.
Or turn ambient display off

Thanks man! That fixes the issue, BTW I know it might be a bit off topic but.. What is xposed? I've seen it everywhere and in that link too, cheers.

Xposed*is a framework for mod's that change the behavior Android. Root needed and downloading xposed-modules.
Never tried it, because I prefer a system close to stock. Therefore I use the prerooted lite stock rom of Danvdh.

I personally use Sweep to wake (up) rather than double tap to wake. It seems more reliable and doesn't trigger by accident.

That's right. But it works well with 4 taps

This is my best suggestion. Turn the back of the phone towards your skin in your pocket. Absolutely the simplest solution.
Never had this happen nor should it happen. Ambient display is normally the cause and why most people turn it off. It is more likely that you are hitting the power button while it is in your pockets. Mainly to those dumb enough to keep it in their back pocket.

Is there any way to calibrate or disable proximity sensor on nexus 6? I am running resurrection remix on the nexus 6 and the proximity sensor seems to be always covered with something even though I am rocking the phone naked w/o a screen protector. Refer to the screenshot.
The main problem I am facing is that whenever I receive or make a call, the screen goes blank. ALWAYS! No matter where I touch the screen the button. The screen goes back on only on ending the call. Help me with a workarounds.
Thanks
Aside from clearing cache and reboots I'm not sure. Is there an app to reset it in the play store?

Hi,
I have a Moto G 2014 dual sim 5" phone (XT1068). For the last 6 months the screen as been turning black when I'm using it like it has gone to sleep. I hit the wake up button and the lock screen is displayed. I swipe the screen to unlock the phone and it then turns to a black screen again. I have to do this for around 30 seconds until the phone behaves normally again. It happens at random times. I have tried doing a factory reset but this didn't fix it. I then unlocked the bootloader and rooted it and stuck a custom ROM on it (Blisspop) but it is still doing it! Anyone know the reason for this? Thanks.
Tried reflashing stock?

Yes....it is in one with magnets that wakes it up when you open the flip case.

Same here. The magnets also turn the screen off. When you flip the lid around the back, they are strong enough to activate the sensor and turn the screen off.
There is an Xposed module which you can use to control this behavior. From memory (I don't have it installed right now) you can selectively tell it to ignore the turn off message but keep the turn on message. I think there was something about turning it off using the proximity sensor as well, so it will still turn off when you close the lid.
In fact, I'll install it again, I forgot how useful it is.
UPDATE: The Xposed module is called MagnetOff. If you want to have your phone turn off when you close your case, you'll need to look into an app to use the proximity sensor to do it (I used to use Tasker).

You might well have cracked it! I never thought of this. It is my wife's phone and she always folds the cover around the back. I have ordered a non magnetic wallet and will test with that. Is this 'Xposed module' an app that you can download from the play store? Would come in useful if thsi is what is causing it. Did you phone suffer from the same thing? I was already fighting with Motorola about the warranty cover because I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. If this is all it is then thank you so much!!!!!

You're very welcome, hopefully it solves your problem.
I've got into the habit of keeping one finger in between the cover and the phone when I flip it around, so I don't use the software anymore. The main reason I originally found it was for the magnetic phone holder in my car. If I put it too much too the left the screen would turn off and keep turning off when I turned it on, but I don't use it any more.
That's totally fixed it! Thanks so much. :good:
did anyone notice the Always on Display dims, but doesn't turn off when turned face-down or put in your pocket?
Yes and looks as though that is how it will always be now. I read an article about how they did proximity sensor on this phone. The process sensor causes a white light to blink when it's on so it is only used when on a call.
Wait ... So the ALWAYS ON display is on ALWAYS and that's a problem??? Hmmmm
Try Gravity Screen.

Yea, I was looking into this. The "behind the glass" proximity sensor isonly on when in calls etc. You'l see it's on by the flashing white dot near the battery icon when in a call etc. All other times it seems it's off. So AOD is always on as it doesn't use the proximity sensor any longer.
Really stupid on their part.

I agree, Also I used the lift to call when in a persons sms thread in the stock messages app, now that does not work either because of this.... I can't find an option to turn it on. Never had an option on my prior galaxys as it just worked...

Yes because I want it always on WHEN I CAN SEE IT, not when it's in my pocket.

This sucks... Only way I understand this it's that they decided that AOD and proximity sensor always on consume almost the same amount of battery.
I cover the proximity sensor on s9+ and turn off AOD in 30sec and then i try that on my s10+ and nothing happened and for now i turn it off because is all the time active.
Screen On In Pocket
My phone doesn't arrive until tomorrow so I have no report but, I am wondering if anyone has noticed accidental screen on in pocket or seen a setting to prevent. Older Galaxy phones had a setting to prevent this which relied on proximity sensor.

Accidental touch is still an option on the S10, i have mine enabled but it never turns AOD off. It doesn't work like before. I'm hoping they can fix this as its getting on my nerves that I have to keep disabling AOD when leaving in my bag else it'll stay on wasting battery for nothing.

So basically if I use a wallet folio case then then AOD doesnt turn off when I close the cover?
What would be causing this?

Probably need to be connected with proximity sensor but this time is under the screen who knows.
I just ran the Samsung inbuilt test *#0#* , there is no test under Sensors for the proximity sensor for this model, if I'm not mistaken other Galaxy devices did have this specific sub test under Sensors test menu

Hey i noticed that AOD is always on, like always for real even in pocket the simple thing to test that is just to cover the top sensor so it should switch off.
Am i the only one experiencing that ?
Sounds like it is doing Always On correctly to me...
IT should get off when proximity sensor is covered

But it's supposed to turn off if proximity sensor is covered to save battery in pocket and such
Strange thing is happening recent to me...
Namely, while using headphones while talking on the phone, the unit gets unlocked while in pocket and problems arise with spontaneous keys getting activated.
If even cannot be explicitly locked by pressing the power button.
Have not found a solution to this problem, and it's strange why the proximity sensor does not work in pocket.
Cannot remember whether this was previously, or is it since last ROM upgrade.
Anyone having same problem?

Yep I have the same thing... Today my pocket took 9599295 pictures and movies.. also when I'm a bit sweat my pocket dial random numbers. I've noticed that when screen is touched and disnt recognize fingerprint then whole lockscreen shows up and its easy way to random open dial or camera... Its rly anoying, because I dont want to hide phone screen outside of the skin. (Its easier to break screen if I hit something with my leg.)
Dunno why it doesnt use proximity sensor to recognize that phone is in the pocket like every other brand... :/
Do you have the double tap to wake up activated?
I had this problem a while ago and it was the double tap that played all kinds of tricks calling emergency and taking pictures in my pocket! Disable double tap to wake up screen and the problem goes away.

Tried everything but the problem is eventually still there. Actually I've found a bug, namely the display will wake up once touched several times near the center of the fingerprint reader. Try it yourself.
Not nice - cannot avoid to happen it sometimes even if all options are disabled.

I didn't have this problem. If I try now and touch the part with the scanner, doesn’t have to be just the centre of the scanner, rapidly around ten times the lock screen will turn on, but nothing happens when I touch the shortcuts. Perhaps they are disabled, so the only thing that happens if the scanner is touched again is that the numpad to unlock with pin appears.
This is not good as it may severely affect battery life if it happens a lot. This clearly must be a bug!

Even worse, since it is happening all the time while on a call via BT and my phone is in the pocket. I am now thinking about to switch over to my old MI8...
Cannot understand why the keyboard is not disabled in the pocket. Seems so easy to do it but it's as it seems on.

My only solution was to buy a flip case. At first, I disabled the fingerprint reader by removing all fingerprints and setting up face recognition, but this didn’t fix the problem you are talking about. I don’t really like flip cases, but the Nillkin QIN Smartcase is rather good.
So now I ‘m eagerly awaiting a fix from Xiaomi so I can strip the Mi9 again!

Disabling the fingerprint icon has no effect on the problem we are talking about here. The only way to make the problem go away is to remove all the stored fingerprints thus disabling the use of fingerprints all together. This will shut off the fingerprint sensor doing away with this problem in a crude way.
If you really are looking for a setting, please use the search function at the top of the settings.
