One of the best things of using an android phone is the customization it offers. But, as with other things in life , sharing the way you experiment and customize your device makes it even better!. You can learn things from other users, share tips or information or just brag about performance or style.
So if you feel like it, share your setup here, it can be as simple as the customization you've made in the moto maker or a skin you bought for the device, to a rom or kernel you've tweaked. Who knows, maybe you'll find something cool here to implement on your own setup.
I'm making mine on a separate post so i don't make the first post too big.
So, currently i have an xt1542. I wonder why xda doesn't have spoiler or image resizing in post creation, it's a pity.
Here's and album in imgur so you can see the photos. http://imgur.com/a/somYH
I also bought a Case for it, because i'm super goofy, althought i don't like the bulk added to the device.
Currently i'm using the custom stock rom developed by amansingh63, pretty stable and reliable.
I tweaked the kernel a little bit, with kernel aduitor, changed my cpu and gpu governors to ondemand, and bumped the zram to 1000mb.
I did this because i also use the viperatmos mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/viper4android-t2952137, with the audiophile profile he recommends in that post, and when i use it with interactive i can hear some annoying noises, and in ondemand the noises are still there but they are a little bit less audible, and the audio quality you get is very well worth it.
I have xposed installed with this modules, greenify and amplify are a must if you have xposed installed, battery life does strech out a little bit with them.
Using nova launcher and month calendar with aurora ui icon pack, i like a lot the way it looks.
Currently i'm keeping stock apps, i tried the new moto g4 apps that recently appeared and even though i liked them, you can't really beat stock stability. One particular feature i love about the device is the gestures for the camera and the flashlight.
Battery life gets me trough the day, kinda wish i could get more out of it but overall it covers my needs.
Performance is good for my usage, i'm not a heavy gamer and i mostly use it for browsing, social networking and as my primary music device. So far really happy with the phone and my setup, but there's always room for improvement!

Hi guys, I recently got a brand new galaxy s (GT-I9000). My experience with this nice one is amazing, except when it comes down to gaming. For example when playing Blood & Glory it just lags like hell, but I have seen videos of other galaxy s on youtube playing the very same game smooth. So I was wondering what can I do about it. I thought that I could install voofoo lagfix, but it was my understanding that it isn't available for gingerbread 2.3.6 (I have a rooted I9000XWJVZ, and I didn't touch anything else). I also thought that you may know a rom that is especially suited for gaming.
I'm at your mercy, please help a poor fellow. Bye and Happy Christmas.
If you were looking for gaming device, I personally would recommend you XBOX or Playstation...
Thanks, but this doesn't help me (and I already have a 360). What I'm saying is that my galaxy s doesn't seem to be able to play game very well, some others do. So I just wanna know what can I do about it.
First of all, read the threads here, and look in General section as well.
You can start from widgets freezing/delete.
Don't use much widgets.

Problem is that gingerbread has terrible memory management, it always tries to keep apps on memory, so when you're playing a game, your RAM changes depending on textures, etc. So the system sees more free RAM and starts an app which causes lags... yeah it's pretty stupid but you could try this:
Flash a custom kernel of your liking (I use semaphore and it's working well), and thunderbolt (it's a collection of scripts that enhance performance). Also you may want to flash a thunderbolt LMK add on (low memory killer), if you want best performance go for the 80MB LMK one, but you won't be able to multitask much. Actually you can change the LMK on the fly (with semaphore app) and that could be easier (flash at least the kernel and thunderbolt, the other thunderbolt add ons are optional)
Try to get some info on LMK, this thread is a good start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18549017
Also I found Cyanogenmod to be ok at gaming but it's a battery hog, if you can tweak a samsung rom like I mentioned you could get good performance and battery life, even if it's a bit complicated at first.
If nothing of this satisfies you, you could go back to froyo, it's much better for gaming, really.
I think the best phone is Samsung Galaxy S2
Thank you parhelion69, I'll try and let you know. Man, tuning a device is much more complicated than expected...
Hey there people!
Ok so the HTC Desire C seems to be a non supported device on here there are currently no ROMs for it and even the root/ulbl is not fully tested so devs with HTC experience get here to give this device what it needs!
Anyways the device runs on a 600Mhz processor running a long side 512MB RAM supporting Android 4.0.3 ICS, due to the specs the device can be a little sluggish under high operation situations so here are a few basic tips to help.
Install Zeam Launcher.
A small size launcher that is lightning fast, only thing that rivals it is the FTL launcher and looks like sense 4 launcher.
The launcher size is 338k (Google play size) very fast and minimal looking.
FTL follows the trend but size varies on ur device
Bit-Defender.
This is a tiny anti-malware suite, for full features needs payment, but for free it gives nice protection. and i use the desktop versions so yeah
if you prefer the finding ur device more so i suggest lookout due to free scream/locate and no it does not drain battery life!
Juice Defender.
I listen to music a lot when am out, my old X10 did well with an extended battery and Juice defender installed, so i say add it into the desire C, it actually saves battery and manages ur mobile data/wifi automatically.
(After root)
Install Titanium Backup.
This app is a god send, it can remove files embedded into the /system/app folder, so u can remove crappy HTC Sense launcher, also remove other bloatware and rubbish do be careful tho Rooting does void warrenty and removing apps can stop the device from working (WE NEED A RECOVERY!!)
Sysctl Config
I use this on my X10 for gaming, it provides a bit of a boost to performance not much but its there
(you must have busy box to run this, recommended to have latest superuser installed from Google play)
a scripting program - edit scripts (Advanced users/devs only)
This is what makes roms so dam fast over stock, devs have edited the files to increase VM Heaps and other stuff, if your a noob or no scripting skills dont attempt it wait for a pro to do it for you!
Try overclocking. (Advanced Users/Devs)
I dont know much about HTC kernels im a DoomKernel user for the X10, but he got the kernel another 200Mhz on a single core!
Idk if HTC have left any overclock on the kernel and i dont wanna damage my phone testing it as i got it 3 days ago, so feedback please!
Overclocking is one of the most obvious choices for speed, at the cost of battery life you can put the CPU past its standard levels, speeding up your device.
Personally i dont overclock past what doom set my kernel, if you wish to do it personally use NoFrills CPU (Free) or SetCPU (Paid) both need Root
Ok rant over! most of this stuff may not be yet possible on the device but i hope it does, its a nice little device cheap and cheerful! devs come and unlock the potential it has forget One X n S3 they got there stuff

Speed
Hi,
I'm a new user and I have a question. I just rooted my phone, and flashed up Nameless rom. But it works with 600mHz. Can I involve the speed?
Overclock or something?

Nope Nope Nope ^__^, basically its no good as the Kernal is stock and doesnt permit overclocking.
You should really rename this thread... it has nothing to do with optimizing or speeding up the OS. It just tells you about a bunch of software you could search for on the market, and then says, "oh ya, and overclock."
Performance problem??
Peep my signature..
Deactivating apps which are not really needed also increases the speed, because more resources are available.
I tried that in combination with the overclock kernel and that sped up my phone especially when using apps which needs much ram and cpu-performance.

no ****, sherlock
And back we are
Lets get a few things updated shall we
_Ayhan_
Apex is a good launcher, bit bigger than Zeam but it works perfectly for me, no lag at all and supports themes!
szilike93 Nameless new ROMs have OC ability, with the correct kernels, as said in my 1st post, i would OC, i used OC on a different ROM and played games, didnt last long under bloon tower defense 5. ive just downloaded a new kernel pack from the dev of Nameless, selected a slight OC, but i shall be still setting max OC to 600Mhz but i will be changing the Governor to InteractiveX and I/O to deadline (Going on what worked best for DoomKernel)
Gamephantom
Yeah removing sense UI would be better off for the phone, but as far even the new "De-Sense" options still have baseline sense installed, until Cyanogenmod works fully we have to stick with it, although the devs have made the device smoother with sense, Cyanogenmod should take the crown
So any updates from me?
Well OC kernels are out and working can try them if you wish, New roms are around which are fast, no new "Super" apps to speak of, just a shame its only a single core 600Mhz, there are some apps im testing and shall report back, such as the Jellybean drivers, see if that wacks my battery using GPU rendering, hopefully not, all testing on Nameless 7.2 with 722Mhz Kernel but will be UC to 600Mhz. Hopefully battery life dont suck, Slimsense still best battery life personally for me
Later Guys!
You want to get a good battery life, just push a stock systemui that don't have battery percentage numbers. Images in stock only have 4-5 batt images, while in percentage it gives accurate %1 reading 100 batt images.

You should do as Xdroidie626 sais.
Download Nameles's ROM and enclosed within You will find 3 kernels. Choose from 2 that allow You to OC Your CPU and flash it.
I'm using the 806MHz Kernel and apart from the obvious, battery life dicreased, can't complain about it at all.
HTC should have released Desire C 806MHz capable in the first place.
Lucky noobs we are to have XDA website and Devs themselves to provide us with tools of salvation from "stock" misery
Btw... Little off-top...
@Einstein.frat
As I mentioned above I'm using Nameless ROM and hereby wish to thank Einstein.frat for his efforts and subsequent effects.
Since I'm a freshman here and my posts are still counted using only one hand I can't avail of the "Thanks" button yet but I will as soon as possible. It may take me a while but I don't post just to bump the counter...
Hi
i thought we ought need to have some relaxation, fun talk thread around our 4x.
Instead of posting all over the forum how we are missing some functions, how we hate this phone, why not sit down together peacefully and talk about it without the fear of going OT?
So I'm creating this thread for O4X owners to share and talk about your life with O4X,, and what you love about it. Of course, show off what mods or any apps you have on your 4x, why you have it on!
From mods to lockscreen/homescreen wallpapers, lets start the talking! Remember this is also an introduction about you, say something about yourself too!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll start the dice rolling:
What i use the phone for:
4x to me is a companion that i can always go to to get information at my finger tips particular news & social networking. I also uses it as my camera (most of the time even when i have a DSLR).
With my Sony earphones LOVE IT AS MY MP3 PLAYER!!!!:silly: Also while driving my 4x is my satnav, google navigation and waze in particular.
When im travelling my 4x is literately the only electronic device i brings, besides its 5000mah portable charger and sony earphones. My 4X really is the only thing i ever need when abroad.:good:
What i do love about it?
The display is number 1:good::good::good::good:
Nice enough battery life.
ample internal memory:good:
Looks miles better than samsung's pebbles.
Mods/Can't-live-without Apps i have:
CM10.1 - PowerAMP - InDrive - Titanium backup - NFC Task Launcher
I initially thought of staying stock to save me from all the headache moments there will be from modifying my phone. But when i saw that CyanogenMod is officially supporting 4x all that changed. CM10.1 has always been around my ears as THE ROM to use. Now after using it, i really understood why it is it so.
NFC Task launcher: If you hasn't have this app installed, download it now! Together with the NFC tags LG gave it really changed my driving experience. Now instead of fiddling individual settings when i gets into my car all i need to do is to tap the tag and everything is done.
Missing Functions
I don't know any
Your turn to speak now
So for what it is... writing sms, facebook and whatsapp, googeling and something of everything! less gaming many flashing The nice HD Screen is what I love most! The smoothness together with cm10.1 is awesome :victory:
what I dislike the dust grains under the awesome display and something is wrong with my phonespeaker (for hearing other by phoning)...
AND THERE ARE TOO LESS ROMS KERNELS AND MODS OUT THERE WHAT MAKES ME SOOO SAD :crying::crying:
Apps I use mainly are ES File explorer, dolphin browser, feeldy, go sms pro, whatsapp plus and Facebook!
Bought it for gaming. Was initially very disappointed. Downgraded to v10a which performs well, but drains so fast! Then after much waiting and pointless retries I got my BL unlocked and now its performing quite good thanks to custom kernels and Tegra overclock. Other than that I use it for emails, editing word docs, general browsing and photos. On kholks kernel for stock at present, but I keep restoring cm10.1 to test kernels for @laufersteppenwolf I like my optimus, and even more so because hardly anyone seems to own one
Sent from my rooted P880
I came from the SE Xperia X8, in the need of a better (performance driven) phone, which was also cheap. So i've found the 4x HD. Checked on xda about root and bough it
Now it's my daily driver wherever i am, school, home, vacation, everywhere
what i like: everything
what i dislike: LG's bad support, for example the fastboot problems...
hmm, showing off... i guess that'd be my Kernel and my ROM
from the first day i've had this phone, i knew i wanted to make my own ROM. The kernel was more a side product than planned
Apps i daily use: Whatsapp, BBS, Tegra Overclock, Hill Climb Race, Subway Surfers, and ADB of course
came from galaxy s2 hd lte, 4x hd is my first quadcore phone. at first it disappoints me, the camera is too weak on lowlight capturing front and back. love taking sceneries. gaming is not superb cause of minimal clocking of the GPU. curse on gameloft not optimizing their games for tegra user >.<, but the display its just great.
i recently flashed from stock to werewolf rom/kernel
while waiting for 3.4 kernel of kholk
and the results are so great. smoothness the ui of the new 4.2.2
well for now i can enjoy the my 4x thanks to Tegra Overclock app and the devs of Werewolf.
hope more custom roms and kernels come to our phone. calling out devs
Hey, in some few days i will recieve this phone, i was asking if is better to sell it or take it, i was planning to sell it ans buy a moto g, but in my country they are all sold out, i think they will come in 2 weeks.
Bye
Recommend that you do not stay there with very few mini s3 rom and all have many bug ...

The phone is rubbish with stock Samsung OS and software! Slow often glitchy, long waits for simple stuff like switching between apps or even going back to the home screen.
BUT - with a custom ROM this phone is potentially AWESOME. Lag is gone, battery life much better. I make my girlfriend jealous and she has an iPhone 5S, lol.
Slightly bigger screen than iPhone, much lighter, more sturdy, expandable memory, FM tuner, and with a custom ROM loads more features and better interface.
Some ROMs are not available for this phone but a lot are: Many available from maclaw.pl, I've tried CM11 but found Carbon (latest unofficial KitKat) has a few more options and some nice optimisations to maximise battery life without sacrificing performance at all.

Hey, thank you, i think i will stay with it, and what can you tell me about games?, is good enough?, thanks bye
With stock, framerates go slow sometimes - since going custom no probs at all. Play a lot of Real Steel World Robot Boxing, a 3D effects-heavy game, runs without a hitch. Screen quality good, graphics good.
I just got one yesterday as a replacement for my work phone. I was using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7. thdevicee mini is a about the same size, but I have the benefits of android, root, larger screen, and the Google kit Kat keyboard. compared to the outdated iPhone 4 it's a decent upgrade.
my personal line is a galaxy s4. the s3 mini doesn't compare, but given that the s4 is my primary device and the s3 mini is for work calls and email only it's pretty dang good.
its a good phone but we have only a few developers for custom roms
---------- Post added at 12:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 AM ----------
also we still dont have miui rom for example, wich almost every other phone already have one stable :/
custom ROM support, or lack thereof, doesn't make a phone good or bad...
if flashing ROMs is a priority, get a nexus as AOSP based ROMs on pretty much anything else sucks. any device with a Google Play Edition version and an unlocked boot loader will be a very close second.
I think the S3 Mini is a very nice phone but there are many other phones which has better performance and battery but they are not so cheap like the S3 Mini The Moto G is okay but the Gaming Performance is bad.. sry for my bad english
It's typical mid-range, with a decent custom ROM every day tasks are quick and the phone is very responsive. It'll gobble up casual games easily and some old intensive games but unsurprisingly you're not going to playing brand new high end games!
Currently, I have the iphone 6s +. I'm not a fan. I've used androids for years and I loved the phones-even had the nexus 6. The phone was huge and thats what I loved about it. I went to the N6P and I hated everything about it to a point where I mistakenly switched to iphone for a few months.
I'm going back to android and want to know, is the N6 still a good phone? I plan rooting the **** out of it and using PureNexus. I know I would love the phone, but is it still a viable option? Should I look elsewhere? I need a big phone, I want plain vanilla android and only have 450.00 to play with.
If not, some choices would be very helpful.
Yes it is still relevant. I plan on running the phone a lot longer as long as it doesn't crap out on me. You've got:
-Great 6 inch 1440p screen with minimal bezel
-Dual front facing speakers (wait til you hear how they sound if you use A.R.I.S.E audio)
-Snapdragon 805 (with 3gb of RAM to boot) still holds it's own and doesn't overheat (at least for me) like many of the Snapdragon 810 phones. Performance is further improved with custom kernels and if you want to you can tweak all kinds of stuff like screen color profiles, wake gestures, governor, CPU min/max frequencies, screen off frequencies, hotplugs, governors, I/O schedulers, etc...
-Because it's a Nexus device it has one of the best development communities around. The current selection of ROMs, kernels, themes, mods, tweaks, etc... is great. While it's not a guarantee, I would expect to see developers release builds of future Android versions even though Nougat is the last official update. Take a look at the Nexus 4 XDA subforum for example. The last official Android version was Lollipop, but the development community has kept on with providing both Marshmallow and Nougat based builds.
-Camera is okay but not great by any means (although it looks cool when you use it as a flashlight because of the dual flash!)
Hi there,
Yes it's a legendary device and only the Mi Mix in my opinion comes close to the wow factor of the Nexus 6. I will hold on to it until it eventually dies on me, I have an iPhone 6S and a Samsung S7 but personally love to flaunt the Nexus 6 when I'm out with friends and family. It definitely is a head-turner and one word that describes the Nexus 6 best is 'unique'.
Love,
Syed
It is an excellent device, I just got some barely used original batteries for it.
Its price has taken quite a slide and I doubt it can be beaten at all at this price/performance range.
