WiFI Quit Working... Hardware? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
Nexus 6 got really hot on N4 build tonight, so hot it felt like it was going to burn my hand. It was supposed to be on standby, but I noticed the screen was on? It was a very strange bug, but I immediately turned it off to let it cool. Now WiFi isn't working. I've let it cool some more, FDR it, and installed a completely different ROM (CyanogenMod) just for kicks to see if it would start working..... It won't. Did the WiFi modem burn out? Cell data works fine...
Any advice would be great. Tried all the recommendations for a fix already. I have a warranty if I need to use it.

Way, Way Too Many Reboots

Hola,
Dont know if Im over (ab)using my phone or if anyone else has the same issues.
My phone loves to reboot
-When I answer a call once in a while.
-When I turn off StreamFurious once in a while.
-When I disconnect the usb every once in a while.
-For no apparent reason every once in a while (ex. Ill find it turned off in my pocket or on my desk, but I never turned it off)
This happens about 3-5 times per day.
Also, on some of the StreamFurious reboots, it turns off and I have to pull the battery or it gets stuck on the G1 screen and never finishes.
Do you think I need a replacement or is this just a version 1 hardware thing?
Thanks in advance for your input!
We are going to need some more information to better assist you.
1) What Build are you using
2) Are you running Apps2SD
3) How much space do you have left on your internal storage?
Sure, thanks
Jf 1.5
Radio: 26I
No A2SD
31MB free
Nothing crazy.
I wipe every time I flash.
I've tried factory resetting too.
I try to keep the system clean.

Something like this happened to me about a month or more ago. It was everytime I try and use my phone when I was charging it, it would reboot. After a few days it would just do it at random. I just called tmobile and they just sent me a new one out.
the same thing is happening to me. my phone randomly crashes/reboots and i was starting to think it is the Haykuro build im using. is there any way to test the hardware? is there something like that in an app?
help
Are you using ahome or someting like that cause those programs cause problem with 1.5 uninstall all your theme apps if you have any
No, no themes.
Called t-mob, since I've had the device (sans insurance) less than a year, they are sending new hardware without a battery to replace mine. I decided to add insurance to the new hardware just incase. Thanks for the input! Glad I called!
Now to virginize the phone... heh
I have the same problem. There's a lot of this going around. It sure seems like a coincidence that it started with Cupcake for most all of us.
This has been something that has been happening since the RC33 load it...
Now I got the stupid random reboot problem. This is a warranty replacement and my first one never did this. I guess I gotta get another warranty replacement. Anyone find a definitive cause for this yet?
almost 100% sure you have a hardware problem

I used to have the same issues WAAAY back after I recieved an OTA update from tmobile for rc33 or whichever one it was in march... back when I had still no idea what "cupcake" was...
always seemed to happen when I was:
answering a call, recieving a text while in a call that I started, etc.
but after I found out about the linux bit of my phone, I immediately cracked it... and... cupcake... and then? there weren't any reboots.... I wonder whats up with that? maybe something to do with OTA spls? I don't remember lol

RC33 was the OTA was in March I believe maybe Feb. This didn't happen as much on RC30 and then RC33 came out and this started to happened more often. Obviously it is not the ROM doing it as not everyone has the problem but something seemed to trigger it on some devices.

Going to have to agree. This is starting to seem like a Hardware problem, considering all the feedback we are being given.
I have the same exact problem.
It's definitely a hardware issue.
I was thinking it was because my extended battery pack is a little loose or some loose wiring. It happens when the phone is bumped a little. Like putting it on a table too roughly or flipping the screen up too quickly or it shaking in my pocket. Probably going to replace it.
I have this same problem...i had it originally with RC33 then it went away with the cupcake update and I recently root and install cynogen's build and its back to screw up my day
i don't think its a hardware thing ...at least in my case doesn't make sense to be gone for a month and then come right back after rooting
I also experience random reboot issue. Usually when the phone hang first then next thing you know, it is rebooting. Sometimes the phone will be just sitting there and it will reboot by itself. I always thought it is the ROM issue, never suspect hardware. I am running an old version of Dudes v1.3a build.
For me too
I am getting too many reboots too, just got a replacement phones(previous one did this too), same with this phone, first i thought it was Hardware but now it think its the roms. On hero it rebooted 3 times while booting the first time, on cyanogen it rebooted in a couple of hours, just dont know what the problem is, maybe abusing the phone
I got a replacement phone and still have reboots issue on it when booting, playing music etc.

Makes me wonder on the apps your using in the background or settings you have up, or even the ROM. Do you have any extra info whats up before it reboots? Does it choke out due to low memory maybe?

Nexus One Restarting Randomly! Help!

Hey guys,
I was hoping someone here could help me out. I just got my Nexus one Today, and I am charging it as we speak. But anyways I was playing around with it while it charges and it randomly crashes and restarts on me. I already did the auto update over the air to FROYO, but it is still doing the same thing. Also it seems to do it mainly in apps that use the gps, for example the compass app will do it every time.
It took me a month to get this phone to me in Costa Rica, and it would be way outside my available time and budget to get it replaced. So I hope it is a software problem, maybe some way to do a swipe or something.
PS: I already tried wiping it from the settings options, but it didn't help. Also I would like to root this phone, but I am to afraid now as I don't know if there is a hardware problem with it.
Thanks for you help, it is much appreciated!
I think random reboots are standard on the nexus. Mines stock and I've had the problem since I got it. But it only happens every couple days or so so im not too worried. How often is yours rebooting?
No this is every 5min.
But I think I figured it out. First off I realized it only happened with sim card in. Then I realized it only happened when I forced the WCDMA, which I need for 3g in Costa Rica. Then I realized that if I enabled roaming, even though I am not, and Left WCDMA on forced, it also stoped. So that is what I did, and it has been going for 30min now. Fingers crossed.
I am still going to get the official Froyo and place it on the sd card then wipe in recovery and update. Just for safety.
So yeah Looks like software issue. Which is really good for me! If it keeps working I am going to root it soon, can't stand that white notification bar

[Q] A weird problem in Kingxklick's Desire2Nexus

Hello people!!
So, here's my problem for today, in that ROM (the Desire2Nexus 1.4 that is) sometimes when i leave my phone in the pocket for sometime it just wont turn back on.
Basically it stays Locked and The power button does not do a thing. The only way to get out of that situation is to take out the battery and reboot it.
Now, the last time it happened to me I tried to call it while it was "Locked", on the other side it seemed like it's calling the nexus normally, but the nexus didn't do anything, it did not ring, did not turn on or anything.
Did anyone here experienced anything like that?
And if this is the wrong place to put this at, Sorry in advance.
Ooh, I guess this is my first post too... yay!!

King had messed something up in the kernel, that was the cause. Try using Evils latest version, with Wildmonks kernals specifically for the ROM. Its really blasing fast.

I can't turn on WIFI

I don't know if people still reads Xperia forum but here it goes.
Here's short version of this, if you don't want to go read though whole post. .
1. I remember I sent it to unlocked it before I put this into storage.
2. Charged it, turned it on, wifi and everything else worked.
3. Discharged it, charged it, turn it back on everything worked except wifi. (googled & searched for answer no go)
4. Updated via USB and Sony website and still no wifi.
5. Using MicroSD ran rom posted again everything works except wifi.
What else do you guys suggest to try?
Few days before my trip, I found old unlocked Rogers Xperia X1a sitting in a drawer and decided to bring it with my trip and play around with it. when I free time Since battery was completely discharged, I charged it and turned it on. I started to play around and turned on wifi, used internet briefly and going through my old memories of agonizing pains and fun using this before I moved to state. A guy I used to work with in Canada suggest unlock it before I leave so he took it to place he knew and unlocked it. I used it for day or two after that than I moved back to state and got Droid and off it went to the drawer.
Although it was slow Windows Mobile 6.1 worked as it should with Claro sim that I put on yesterday. It was old and roughly used but I decided to give it a new life and install rom and use it as media player/emergency/travel phone. I left it on the desk to completely discharge the battery again and charged it to full before I give it a new life. And last night I turned it on and I find it wifi not turning on. I've googled and searched this forum and the suggestion of soft and hard resetting and playing around with energy saving didn't work. I thought it was program that needed updated so I went through updating though Sony website and hoping upgrading would solve the issue but again NO WIFI. I followed instruction on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000254 and tried to see if running Android could fix this but nope. It didn't work.
I found stable rom on Xperia x1a very responsive and I can definitely use this as everyday devices when ever I travel (old&cheap=safer) but no wifi would kill me as I had been using prepaid phone and I see data plan in most of place are ridiculously expensive.
What else can I do and try to fix wifi?

Thanks for reply.
I thought it was hardware issue as well and I don't know how I have missed those valuable manuals and I have looked through that post yesterday too. I have now download the manuals I needed, It said to check the check the antenna connector on mainboard and clean it. Hopefully it's that easy fix.
I'll report back with result.
OMG!!!
After following instruction on youtube I was able to get to behind camera. The plastic in this phone really DOES break really easily! The plastic near stylus holder fell off and I did not even touched that side of the phone. Maybe it was already broken from few times it fell but part of it just feel out.
Anyways.
After opening it up and doing a very careful cleaning I still don't have Wi-Fi. Bluetooth still works just like before but Wi-Fi still won't turn on.
Oh well...

Wifi stuck trying to turn on.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem? I tried restarting the tablet and powering off completely. Nothing has worked. The last time it happened i deleted some random 3rd party apps and it magically switched on. But i havent downloaded anything new and my tablet is very close to original. It is the 9.7 inch us cellular version. I want to check for an update but without wifi, i cant do much. Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Had this problem with the 8 inch version. Shutting off the Samsung power saving app resolved ot for me. Look at my post history, it should be a recent thread that I started where I documented what to turn off. YMMV.
Thanks for the suggestion. The wifi magically was on again today. The only thing i had done was took the sim card out, rebooted and left it sit. Wifi did not come on initially so i dont know how long it took but hopefully it keeps working
Well it quit working again after rooting and flashing a custom rom. Ive read the wifi chip could have a bad solder. Anyone else have any input?

I would flash back to complete stock before making any assumptions.
WiFi is highly dependent on the device firmware.
