Has anyone else discovered screen burn in yet? I've had my phone since 12/3/14 and loved every second, except for 5.0.1. Today I noticed, while viewing a mostly white picture, a faint shadow. After a few minutes of playing with my brightness, I saw it's from being on Facebook too much. It's largely unnoticeable. Does anyone have any advice as to how to minimize further burn in? I assume it's normal wear for this phone. I just never saw burn in on a phone before. I'm a heavy user. I charge at least twice a day between work and fun.
Stay off Facebook. It's the devil.

I think it's pretty common with oled screens. I have a small bar burned on my screen from an app that I use and rely on. This happened on my s3 also with the same app.. A lot of oled screens get the status bar burn in also.
One of the major disadvantages of AMOLED screens. Here's some "tips" to minimize screen burn-in:
1. Enable all angle rotation, so you can just flip the phone to a different orientation from time to time to avoid tool bar and notification burn-in.
2. Install Potato Gradient and set the colors to 100% transparency
3. Avoid colored backgrounds as much as possible. Especially blues and whites.
4. Avoid using full brightness!
5. Set your screen time out to 30 seconds or less.
6. Get a phone with an IPS LCD screen

Too bad you just said that my friend!
It just proves you don't know jack about AMOLED screen techology :silly:
Food for thought: AMOLED screens DONT have a backlight panel because IT DOES NOT NEED IT as its pixels emit their own light through chemical processes.
But thank you for participating!!!

Stop trying to be an ass. You know what I meant. It still DOES NOT affect the life-span of the screen like showing blue.
Stop posting misleading information that showing White affects the screen longterm (other that affecting battery life).
Post proof that continuous White affects the screen long-term.

Personally my screen burn in problem occurred where a white band went across the screen. I'm only mentioning my observations. Not arguing any fact about how oled works or anything. I'm definitely not an hardware engineer.

I've learnt something new today. What is the average brightness of your screen like on a daily basis? In my opinion, screen burn-in should not be noticeable since folks often change phones long before that happens. How long have you had your phone? I think the secret lies within PenTile vs. non-PenTile displays. After about 2-3 years, most of us would have changed phones already. My phone lives at maximum brightness while watching movies and playing games, so I'm yet to see any ghosting on mine (since the images on my screen is constantly changing).
There are apps in the Play Store that claim to help reduce or reverse burn in

My average brightness daily would be around 40%. I do adjust that up when using phone outside for short durations. My case of burn in happened within 6 months on a new note4. It was within a year on my s3 also. Only much worse. I believe it happened from the screen getting hot while being on full brightness with the app keeping the screen on for a long duration. The burn in on the Note is very mild. I changed my brightness habits after I noticed it. I tried some of the apps to fix it without success.

Nope, I'm not trying to be an ass... I'm just stating the facts:
Fact #1: You said "White is just the backlight. It only shortens your battery life, but doesn't affect your screen" as if it where an LCD screen. Meaning you have your facts wrong.
Fact #2: AMOLEDS degrade with use, they even degrade under the sun due to UV light, heck they even degrade under fluorescent light like the ones in office buildings and such.
Fact #3: You need to do some reading about screen technology dude
Take a chill-pill and carry on!

I made a typo. I was using Tapatalk on my phone to compose this. I meant to use the word "background" instead of "backlight" to describe viewing white web-pages. The auto-correct feature on my keyboard messed me up
I was unaware of Fact#2, but I'm aware of Fact#4, hence I used the word "claim" in that post.

So you then meant to say "White is just the background"? I see... However that doesn't make sense to me and I suppose you disabled the automatic tapatalk signature, anyway that doesn't matter now.
But I digress... I agree that AMOLED degradation has been reduced as the technology matures and also it varies from user to user, but this is something to take into consideration at least those that purchase their phones used up on ebay or Craigslist.

Unfortunately there's no other way around that... Our displays tend to be inefficient under the sunlight and thus require the brightness at full blast!

Hello guys, i just received my SGS this moment and came from a Legend. I'm a bit disapointed about the display - not that its very bright and clear, etc. But i can see dark pixels in the edge of white vs. black, gray, etc. Is it because of the big screeen versus the resolution, or? On my legend, i didn't see this. :-(

Yes i did. Try with something ex. orange on black and you will see a lot of black pixels in the orange color, making it "dirty"... :-(
The screen has higher pixel density, and is brighter than the Legened one. They're both made by Samsung, but the SGS one uses newer screen tech. Are you sure the screen is worse than the legend one?

Picture would really help
from what i've gathered, it seems that you'll have to use your phone for a bit before the screen "adapts" to heat and the color should come out nicely.
idk how true is that though.
I made a similar post a few months back. I had trouble reading black text on white as it looked fuzzy. Now it is nice and sharp but I am not sure if that is because I installed a better font and set it to auto brightness (full was way to much) or if the display has "bedded in" so to speak. Either way it's fine now.
It is the Pentile pattern used on the Samoled display.
I feel it too.
If you come from an LCD display, and if you have good eyes, you will perceive the effect.
The Pentile pattern uses double sized Red and Blue subpixels, and normal sized Green. So, you have just half the pixels with a Red subpixel, and half with Blue.
Thats why you see a checkerboard-like pattern on the screen.
The contrast and black level is way better, but you have this annoying effect on the colors.
Paulo
Funny enough my sgs doesn't seem to have the checkerboard effect whereas my old omnia hd did... Either that or my eye sight is crap.
It's a brilliant display. But its not quite as crisp as an LCD.
The black levels are insane though. I struggle to find the edge of the screen if its black!
The "checkerboard"-effect is still there after one day of use, but i've gotten used to it and don't see it anymore. I wish it wasn't there, but what the hell...
I'm not sure that the checkerboard effect that you guys talking about is the same as what appearing on my screen. I doubt that why when I view 5 color images (atteched below) in full screen. I cannot see smooth colors like showing in LCD, they look more like some texture on the images. Is that called checkerboard effect? If that because of pentile matrix, why this checkerboard isn't show in a smooth pattern? Or this is poor quality of screen production? Because of not only checkerboard I notice, I also notice big vertical gray tint band color on my screen as shown in below picture.
Do you guys see some in yours?

instead of using pictures display to test the screen
use the app called "color flash light"
then you can choose any colour to display on the full screen
and you will easily be able to test your screen
there is also a test screen mode using secret codes

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tested my screen through *#0*#. Bright color like RGB display great on my screen. I just doubt that why gray-like color such as my attachments displayed not quite smooth on SAMOLED screen. I also notice unsmoothness gray when pull down notification bar as well as gray bg that some website used and even gray bg that some apps use. I just doubt that.
Anyone else please give me some feedback? When you try to view the above images on your phone I suggest you to set brightness to the lowest for easy noticible. You will see what am I talking about? I want you guys to share your experince with this screen or at least answer me that this is called checkerboard effect or not?
Thanks and cheers
I too have noticed that flat colors around the 50% brightness mark look like they have a pattern.
I'm not talking about screen brightness, but image brightness. So if I look at 50% gray, or one of the images provided above, my screen looks like it has vertical lines breaking up uneven hues.
I have tested my screen and these are not any sort of problems that dead pixels would cause, but rather some sort of artifact. It almost loos like an interference pattern, but it's fixed on screen. It almost looks like burn-in, except it's in unusual areas and shapes.
Any idea what's doing this? Full brightness colors, like red, green, yellow, and white have no such problems.

Thank you for your feedback. At least someone understand what I'm talking about. I think we're in the same situation and have the same suspicion about the strange pattern showing on dark color especially dark gray color and the vertical uneven hue color line or band as appear on my screen.
By the way, if you could provide a picture of your screen, it would be very nice.
It's called banding. Look into voodoo, it has better color calibration. I used voodoo for 2 weeks and the color definitely looks better. Currently not using it because I"m waiting for Froyo.
Yes, I have this too, but I think it's normal for the screens. In actual use you're not looking at straight 50% gray a lot so it doesn't really bother me that much

Thank you for your answer and your link. Actually I think the weird pattern is common in every SGS but the banding one is not. For my case, I have claimed for a screen replacement and waiting to changing it on Monday. Actually I have Samsung replaced my screen for 5 times but with different reasons. Of cause, I think that Samsung has poor QC. Most of the screens that passed my eyes, I also saw banding, some big some small. So I just want to share my experience here for others as a reference.
Hello everybody!
I am now a proud owner of an HTC One and I absolutely love it.
Its an SH35BW903846 and, build quality wise, its almost perfect - 99% perfect. No gaps, no dents, not dead pixels, no light bleed and not even the pop/crackle. It's running the 1.29.401.16 software.
The only problem I have (I don't know yet if it is a problem), is with the camera in night time and very low light scenes.
My problem is that in night shots and very low light scenes, the camera turns the black into blue (or red in very very dark scenes). For example, I included some photos, on a dark street with only a few light posts it turns black areas into blurry blue. Yes, it lets in more light (and more natural looking light) than my old One X, but the black areas are blue.
Not to mention, some times it has trouble focusing so a few of the shots I attached were taken after 2-3 tries.
Even more, in very very dark scenarios - see the last picture - it turns the blackness into red.
Now, my questions:
Is this normal?
Has anyone else had this problem (is it a problem)?
Can someone post a night time picture taken with their one in similar scenario and without the "blue"?
I am a bit worried because if it is a flaw than i would have to return my almost perfect One... :crying:

UPDATED 13th of November: I took my phone into service again. This time they didn't replace my whole phone, but they did replace the camera module. They put in a camera from SHARP, sensor date 14 october 2013. The first tests I've done indicate that they've finally found a way/a sensor/a manufacturer to make the damned camera perform in low light like it supposed to... See a photo comparison of the new camera here.

UPDATED (2nd of October) - If you have the same problem, please fill in this Google form made by @gogogaga7 so we can have a centralized data base with information about the units that are flawed. The form is here: http://goo.gl/HmRJqC
UPDATED (5th of July) - I just got a replacement for my faulty unit and I just posted comparison photos in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43265994&postcount=89
Advice: If your camera gives you similar results with blue/red/purple noise in low-light photos -> take it back to HTC or an operator or repair service for a replacement!
UPDATED with Poll (13th of August) - Seeing how many replies and page views this thread has gathered during these couple of months, how many of you said they experience this problem and how HTC has not publicly recognized it (either as software or hardware fault), I added a Poll to see indeed how many of us are having this problem. @VictorCozmei
Heya buddy! Yes this is the same as mine! I have been trying to create a discussion of this eversince and also found some users here with the same or worst than ours issue.
Apparently reducing the ISO solves the issue.
Anyways do you have access to other HTC One devices? Like demo on stores or relatives owning one? You could try by covering the camera lense with your hand. If it turns bright red then we must assume it's a normal behaviour of the camera. I can't really tell but I think this is happening because of the very aggressive sensitivity of light on our phones. I compared it with my previous phone and an ISO 100 on HTC One is equally similar to the ISO 400 of my previous phone.
Anyways if we can gather much feedback from users maybe we would know if this is a defect indeed(software/hardware) or just normal.
Also this should not be Chromatic aberration or at least similar to thos of the iphone 5 purple haze as it's like the opposite. CA and iphone purple haze is due to high contrast whilst ours is happening on low contrast areas.
^^^ @Riyal
Thanks for the reply. I thought for surely my post would go unnoticed and I'll be left alone with this potential problem even if there are loads of HTC One owners on the forum who can give a helping hand but just don't bother...
I don't have immediate access to another HTC One, but I will be following your advice and I will surely test them that way... Again, I sure hope this isn't a flaw in my phone. I would hate to take it back because it is so perfect in every other way :crying:
Just hope somebody else could join in the discussion and share their experience...
I notice a couple of interesting things when trying stuff out after reading your post:
If it's very dark (probably darker than what it was when you took the example pictures) the screen could be blue, red, or purple (a mix of blue and red noise upon closer inspection) depending on how much light I allowed back in.
If it's completely dark (put it down on a table), the screen is always red. This is actually pretty common among many sensors though.
Taking pictures with it at night in my living room with the tv on, the pictures are usually orange.
So it seems to me to be a property of the camera even when the camera is otherwise fine as I have noticed no other issues with mine. Thinking back to my old iPhone, I remember the pictures being blue just like your examples when it was dark. Maybe further evidence of it being normal?

Do you also experience the same issue as ours? I believe it's a miscalibration. Or probably an issue with image sense chipset of HTC. Did any of you guys already tried directly ask HTC about this issue?
Anyways could I ask you guys the build number of your phones?
@VictorCozmei
Considering that this phone should boast low light capabilities I think this is not a normal behavior. What we should do is ask directly HTC if this is solved through software or hardware. As far as I know not all people here experience this issue else we could seen alot more posts about this.

Some users doesn't have that annoying red/blue tint on their devices even when covered.
Here's mine
And here's from another user
@Riyal
Mine doesn't get red when i cover the camera with my hand and take a picture (or if i put it on the table with the camera down). Its black, but at night time and in extremely very low light it goes to red... If it finds a little more light than the black areas get blue, blueish or purple... And it gets very hard to focus for a proper shot, even if i point it towards a light source like a lamp post.
I took a photo with my hand fully covering the camera and it turned out black. I compared it to the one posted on the other thread by the other user, the one who uploaded his black photo for you so you could see the exif data.
Compared, mine was taken with ISO 400, the other user's photo was ISO 2000 ... Mine had thew birghtness -2.163531, his was -4.48546
What does yours say?
Mine is also saying 2000 ISO and brightness(based on properties detail on windows 7) 4.28472
This only mean 1 thing... Our phone's sensor is either uncalibrated or is just way too aggressive in collecting light.
I can only recreate a pitch black result by covering the camera if my I manually set my ISO to 400 or 200. Setting it to 800, 1600 or Auto shows up the reddish tint.
I already contacted HTC about this and sent a sample screenshot. Now let's see what they can tell.
@Professional photographers
What do you think this is? color temperature issue? Gain issue? I can modify these values in the kernel if someone can confirm me what might be the real issue is.

By the way I'm gonna go to our local telecom provider later since they have display units of HTC One here. I'll take a look and see if it also has the issue. Last time I checked it was a May build so it's a new batch.
*Hope it gets the same result to ease my mind*
I'm really gonna fret out if it's a hardware issue as I have to ship the device back to europe from asia just to get it fixed/replaced >.<

I'm looking at the anandtech review and I don't see this problem in their night shots... For example, this picture ( http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/gadgets/HTC/HTCOne/cameracomp/bench-HTC One.jpg ) was taken on full auto and it returned an ISO of 531 1/15s and all that was supposed to be black was black...
If I try something like that... I'll most certainly get an 1/7s and an ISO-2000...

I don't think so... Look at the light in the area it's way to evenly spread out for yours to become reddish believe me I have tried it. For the photo to become reddish you basically need to have a very limited light source(candle in a completely dark room) for the sides to become reddish.
+1 on the above stated issues. When I cover the lens, the image turns red because iso shoots up. However when I manually set the iso lower (say 100), then the image is just plain black.
I honestly do not think this is a defect of some kind but rather normal behaviour with high iso settings. But when someone can take a pitch black picture with the lens covered on iso 2000 than we will have a problem

I've tried taking photos in similar scenarios like the one on the anadtech site and my result was a photo with blue and purple-ish noise instead of the black that appears in their photos. All on auto on my device -> ISO 2000, 1/7s, blue instead of black areas
I was thinking the same as you before someone gave me this pitch black result.

I'm pretty sure I could get exactly the same results with my phone. Even just a single street light is enough to remove the reddish tint on the camera. However what I find odd is flourescent lights can't remove it.
@VictorCozmei @Floris2310 @Xerro-Five
Confirmed! We have a weird sensor on our devices. I manage to play with another HTC One in a store here in our place and it's indeed having perfect pitch black images
damn, bad news then. Probably a stupid question but did you check the ISO settings on the device?
There are two possible scenarios here:
1) We have a sensor which is acting weird/broken
2) There is something wrong with the ISO selection and it typically takes an ISO to high which causes the red image
I think (read: hope) the second option is more likely and the good news is that this would probably be a software rather than hardware issue.
Anyway, thanks @Riyal for checking this!
@Riyal
This is horrible :crying: @#$%!
If this is truly confirmed and there are a number of One's out there with broken sensors, than I think this thread should be renamed so that all users know about this problem. Maybe some of them, looking to buy the One, can do the camera test before purchasing a faulty unit!
I just got my One and I'm falling in love with it and now I have to take it back and be without it... More over, the great HTC-partner service we have here doesn't not know the meaning of the word "replacement" and they will most surely try to open and fix it (oh the horror!!) ...

I would wait a little longer before returning the device. The 4.2.2 update is just around the corner and I have read somewhere that there are some camera improvements. Perhaps the issue is fixed with the update. If it's a software problem that is.
Got my N6 today and as soon as I powered on, noticed that I can see what looks like a faint grid like pattern on the display, vertical lines. Most noticeable with brighter colors, like white, etc. It's very faint, but noticeable. Is this normal, everyone else have this?

I've noticed this on almost all phones I've had with Gorilla Glass.......something in the manufacture I think......normal as far as I know.
EDIT: NVM........duh......I forgot, that was the glass screen protectors. Maybe sensors??
It's not the glass, but the display itself... Used to be common with amoled displays, but that was a few years ago. From what I've been reading, the amoled panel used on Nexus 6 isn't exactly one of the best. I need to compare to a display model or something...
Sounds exactly like the digitizer too me, but I could be wrong. Haven't heard anyone else mention it. So either that or maybe u got a lemon? That's my best guess unfortunately
Nah, it's not the digitizer... Maybe I should explain better. It's not a straight grid, but rather a "plaid" design of very faint vertical and horizontal "streaks". It only shows up on certain colored backgrounds. You kind of have to look for it... More noticeable when brightness set to below 50% in a darker room. I dunno, maybe it's just the lesser quality amoled display panel they used on this. I think I really need to compare it with a display model maybe.
Is it that mura effect? If you go to an all black screen in a dark room do you see it?

Lol, no... It's visible on light colored backgrounds.
it definitely sounds like amoled background texture.
it's just the nature of the beast. the pixels on amoled are not worn exactly at the same level and produce very minimal differences of light output from pixel to pixel. most people won't notice but it's there. as time gets by and pixels are worn more unevenly the effect because more pronounced. best way to check it out is putting a white background and play with brightness. at some levels, what should be totally white it has an inherent unchangeable pattern.
nexus 6 is not too bad but I guess it will get worse with time. watch out for burn in, it will happen. the note 4 is a next gen display and it's hard to see this effect at all.

Thanks, you nailed it. Do you see it on yours as well? The visibility definitely changes depending on the screen brightness and background color. With normal usage so far, I don't really notice it much, bit it's still there. Another way to describe it I guess is that it sort of looks like faint grayish "stains" on the back of the glass.
OK, set your brightness to around 50% and open up the Clock app... see anything? On mine, looks almost like someone took a wide paintbrush and dragged it down the screen, lots of dark vertical streaks. Anyone see that?

Yes, it's pretty obvious to me. I just noticed after two days of heavy use that burn-in has started right where the notification bar ends. Not very apparent but noticeable already after 48 hours of use. I can't imagine what this display would look like a year from now.... It's obvious Samsung if keeping their best AMOLEDs for themselves and this is 1-2 year old tech albeit with super high PPI. Between this super average display, average battery life but with premium price starting to think to sit this one out.

Yeah, the Nexus 6 is a bag of compromises. If it's your first Nexus device it will feel quite nice. I have a Nexus 5 and frankly, after Lollipop the Nexus 5 feels like new. Sure battery life sucks, but N6 is not that much better. I really like the screen of the Nexus 5, accurate colors and no burn-in problems.
The display of the Nexus 6 is a pain point for me. I'm trying of giving it a chance, but it's starting to feel like a let down.. Have you seen the display of the iPhone 6+ or the LG3? they are amazing LCD displays. Just more accurate colors and none of the AMOLED issues. I wish the N6 had one like that. I'd be sold if it did.
I really didn't like the display on the G3, lol. I do have a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and screen is amazing, blows away N6. The only thing holding me back on Note 4 right now is Touchwiz... such a shame they went with this display on the N6, it's otherwise super fast and Lollipop is great... but these lines already driving me nuts and hard to justify spending 650 on a phone with this screen. Ugh... compromise is right. Need to think on this one.
I'm getting concerned now. The description of a "faint grid like pattern on the display" sounds like what the galaxy nexus suffered from and it looks horrible at low brightness levels.
For me a screen with "issues" is a major turn off as for me the screen is the most important thing, and unfortunately it seems like the one used in the nexus 6 has too many compromises.
I just don't want another samsung device
I was so happy with the thought of a 6" amoled display with stero front facing speakers and stock android as the icing on the cake and now all this.
Initially I thought the nexus 6 display was just less bright than the note 4 which I could have lived with but as I do a lot of viewing in the dark at low brightness levels the graininess and grid like patterns with streaking etc will be too much for me
Hi all. Got my Google Play Nexus 6 today, overall awesome phone, but I was really dismayed to see that the phone has some faint horizontal and vertical banding. It is somewhat faint, and is really only noticeable against a grey or darker blue background (like the color of the quick settings pull down). There is also a degree of "graininess", also only visible against darker colored backgrounds. I'm just annoyed because this was originally a big problem with the first-gen OLED HD on my Galaxy Nexus, and here we are, at least 2 generations later and it's still a problem. Heck, my 2013 Moto X didn't have this issue, so why does my Nexus 6? Does anyone else have any graininess or banding against a grey/darker background? Should I bother RMA'ing this thing, or like the GNexus, is this issue widespread?
Thanks for your perspective, fellow Nexus 6 owners.

I will try to take a few when I get home. It might be tough, since it's a subtle effect, but I'll definitely try. If you happened to own a Galaxy Nexus though, it's identical to the problem that plagued those displays.
I also just got my first phone call, and the earpiece volume at maximum is barely audible. Maybe I just have bad luck with Nexuses (Nexii?).

gnex guy here, so I know what you're talking about. I see very slight banding on dark gray backgrounds. I would have missed it if I didn't know what to look for.
I definitely see graininess on lighter backgrounds, and it's exacerbated at low brightness settings.
neither is enough to make me even consider an RMA though.
Gotcha. Hmm, maybe you're right... if it's common, maybe I should just deal. Do you also have a really quiet earpiece? That's my only other issue right now: even on max volume, i can barely hear the person on the other end of a call.
I'm also a former gnex user, still have it somewhere too lol. I remember making Verizon send me 2-3 replacements until I finally gave up and accepted the screen. I'm not noticing it on my N6. Only complaint I have about the screen is the yellow tint when looking directly at it.
I definitely see the same issue. The problem really is a pentile arrangement of the pixels. It has always been the case with AMOLED panels.
Mine has this as well its just how amoled pentile is...this is the one thing that disappointed me about the 6..wish they used super amoled or LCD instead.

Samsung Super AMOLED panels are pentile as well.
I'm sorry to see that you guys are seeing this. Mine doesn't display these issues. My panel doesn't exhibit this behavior which is nice because I was worried about it.
The easiest test that I do for my panels is to kick Tapatalk into dark mode or open chrome and close all tabs so you're looking at a black screen with the white plus in the corner.
Must be an issue with the midnight blue models as my cloud white is damn near flawless.

They're all pentile... Note 3/4, GS4/5 all utilize pentile displays. As far as banding on those goes, I had to trade in 3 Note 3s to get one where I didn't notice it.

It's because AMOLED screens are garbage and just plain suck. The Nexus 6 screen is much more better than the GNex though. I can tolerate it.
I definitely agree that it's tolerable. On my GNexus, any dark screen had noticeable banding on it. In this case, it is much more difficult to notice. I can deal if need be.
What about the earpiece volume? Does everyone's Nexus have very low earpiece volume? Speaker phone is very loud, but the actual earpiece is almost inaudible.
There seems to be an tracker open for this Issue: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80817
I'd recommend that anyone affected star it.
This is mine at 1/3 Brightness (auto=off) using the Chrome no tabs page as a control background. I just opened a RMA with the play store. The dark areas are distinctly pink on a while background.

Did you seriously comment this while discussing a $700 phone?!?!?!
For the author of the post: I as well see the vertical banding and does not matter what wallpaper is on, I can see it when scrolling my screens left and right. Best to see is dark gray - I placed the wallpaper that's of that solid color and boy am I now pissed... Paid $744 for what - another OPO $hi!?!? Called Google - they will respond within 24-48hrs... they better do something... plan to have the device replaced if they don't magically tell me how to get rid of the lines... if replacement is the same, so long Nexus - will get my money back!
I knew Motorola would screw something up, I just waited to see what exactly...

When i slide the brightness slider to the max (after warning came out), the screen is way too bright. in fact there are many times i have to lower the brightness as the screen gets abit too bright for usage. even when under bright sun the screen is good enough to be read clearly. one complaint that i have wrt to brightness would be that the auto-brightness is not well calibrated. sometimes it gets dark suddenly and could be quite irritating.

You need to train your phone's auto brightness. Everything under 40%ish is good for me now. I have to manually change occasionally in bright areas as it is too aggressive or I am at a bad angle and need to increase more.

Yeah and the manual brightness is about the same. And due to reviews and testing we know Apple put some kind of coating on their screen to help reflectivity. Was it needed because of lack of brightness in sun? I don't know. From what I've seen though the coating is very good. Reminds me of the coating Samsung put on their F8500 plasma, the last flagship plasma Samsung made. It was a very good coating and I regret not buying one but couldn't justify it. Either you're trolling or you have a defective screen. Methinks you're trolling.

Hi, If I am not mistaken I think you have just contradicted yourself twice in one post? I am lost now and not really understanding your point?
It is untrue to write the iPhone X has a brighter screen than the note 9. I have given you the NIT rating for both mobiles in my last post.
If you enjoy the screen more on the iPhone X then use said mobile as your daily driver. I respectfully disagree so use my Note 9. All about choices BUT its unwise to write false comments regarding either mobile.

I have ordered more note 9 and it's the same for everyone.
Energy saving is OFF... accu is set to Maximum Performance.
Why is that note9 darker than the three year old huawei ???
When I light up the note9 with a bright flashlight, the display becomes a little brighter again. But not brighter than the Mate 9.
can someone help me please?? (

turn off adaptive brightness and set screen mode to "adaptive display", then try. Its bright so much that i cannot stare more than 5 seconds on full brightness in room light and full white wallpaper.
