Hi im quite new to all of this, i have successfully rooted and up loaded a rom to a HTC wild fire (old phone i know) but now i have a samsung galaxy s3 mini and i would like to update the rom but im finding it hard to find a walk through guide to rooting and uploading a new rom.
As most of the guids have broken links (or is it that my phone is that old still) any help would be great in finding a guide to help me out.
i would like a full guide if possible like on how to root the phone and upload the rom
thanks for any help

Due to data and time constraints I will upload what I can but will provide links to the download pages for the rest. Forgive me if I leave something out as I haven't done a complete job in a while, but here goes:
Rooting just use iRoot
1. Donwload Odin [https://mega.nz/#!19Eh3YQI!ezvPW-O6xsuNyApdHaP7DDWdZcV3qYBPInP7NI0UaCI]
2. Assuming that you have the GT-i8190 Download TWRP Recovery .tar image [https://mega.nz/#!Ft8yiRwa!O90UbTkUSD70lsFHs6MetgTo84mhGNVXiWwu3comAlY]
3. Download Samsung USB Drivers (Ships with Samsung Kies) (should be able to find that )
4. Open Odin on PC
5. Power off device and boot into download mode (Power, home and volume down)
6. Connect device to PC via USB
7. Use PDA button in Odin to select the .tar image and flash it to device
8. Download .zip for ROM [http://novafusion.pl/downloads/]
9. Download GApps [http://opengapps.org/] (ARM, and I either select Stock or Pico)
10. Download SuperSu .zip [https://mega.nz/#!FwckDKrT!C6q9tUixzcDqKmJmZyg9ZxpmNSYRpyQooTcfqJHdPXo]
11. Copy both files to external SD card
12. Boot into TWRP recovery
13. Select wipe and Select advanced wipe. (Dalvik, System, Cache and data)
14. Select install and select the zips from the SD card. (ROM first then GApps and lastly Su)
15. When install completes wipe Cache and Dalvik
16. Hope and pray for 15-30 minutes while the phone sorts out the initial boot (Can take longer)
Hopefully if you've done it correctly you will have a new ROM!
Good Luck
@jmh474
At first you must tell us which Device do you have S3mini GT-I8190 or 8200
To update or flash the Rom ,the steps are the same but all Rom and Recoverys are different.

Yes you can go back to original stock ROM any time by flashing via Odin
Sent from galaxy ace running S3 beta 3.1 evolution
You can go directly to steps G and H after rooting. Step C is for flashing the stock firmware, thats our safety net, whenever things go wrong, we flash stock firmware via Odin and the device becomes brand new.
There is no bootloader issue here, you can directly install custom recovery and get flashing. Just stay away from the ROM Manager app, its incompatible with this phone.
Simple Guide for getting Cyanogenmod working
Hey
I got this phone a while ago and can share my experience on it with you.
first off: DON'T TOUCH ROM MANAGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!
I have seen too many people go down the bricking route to sit and watch another person go down that route...
Anyway, why dont you flash CM 7.2.0 cooper? Ive been using it for a month now and its great! Its the latest stable release, i didnt want to go any higher since I don't have the cash for a new phone, and have no use for a paperweight its quite simple really,
1: download cooper (i havent posted 10 yet so take away spaces) [get. cm / get / 2K8]
2: download CMW recovery (attached: couldnt find file I have online)
3: put the files in your sd root
4: boot into recovery (power+home)
5: install CMW recovery by clicking on (with home button) apply update from sd card and locate the zip file
6: reboot again into recovery (now CMW recovery)
6.1: (OPTIONAL, but recommended) make a full backup under backup and restore
7: Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and in advanced, wipe dalvik cache
8: install zip from sd, pick the cyanogenmod zip and apply. HAVE FUN
Just ask if there is anything I can help you with
NOTE TO SENIOR MEMBERS AND THE LIKE: I know there is an official thread on this but he made a post on being new to the phone and I'm trying to help...
Im a total novice when it comes to rooting. i did manage to root my N7000, but after a few hours my phone became quite muggy...i rebooted it and on reboot it said "upgrading".
Since then it has been unusable, i did the volume up/home/power button and tried a wipe data....phone still wont respond well. keyboard doesn't work, cant get a signal, and its generally so groggy, its pretty much unusable. i managed a factory reset with phone switched on, still no better.
any help would be massively appriciated
Adam:crying:
Relax mate! Am guessing a simple flashing of the stock firmware will solve ur issue.

Ok ..
First of all if you have properly rooted your android device with (clockwordmod recovery) or any other recoveries etc you need to have a Rom to flash it through this recovery
It is recommend that you must have safe kernel before flashing any ROM. Please download any of CM10.1 ROM from the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397
Now Get the ROM for your appropriate device from the link below. Select the device and download the ROM. Use any Stable or Nightly version.
http://www.cyanogenmod.org/
Next thing you need to download Google Apps package called GAPPS. Its latest version corresponding to CM10.1 android version 4.2.2 is on the top of the screen. (20130301) using link below
http://goo.im/gapps
Put all the files to micro SD Card. Since your operating system is not working so you may have to take out SD card and put these downloaded zip files to SD card using jacket or your laptop SD card slot.
Now Switch ON your android device to Recovery Mode by Holding Volume Up+ Power and Home Button together
Do following:-
Wipe data/Factory reset.
Wipe Cache.
Wipe Delvik Cache in Advanced Options ..
Fix permissions.
then go to your SD card and flash all these files in order
Flash the Kernel first and after flashing Reboot Your Recovery.
Now Flash
1. CM 10.1
2. GAPPS
Reboot .. n enjoy your new rooted phone
If you still face difficulty let me know ..

Although i haven't reached the 'recovery mode' part yet, i can tell you that the only options are:
reboot system now
apply update for external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
the delvik cache & fix permissions are not options
Adam
Here ur options
Two options with you
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Download clockword mod recovery from here.
Again I recommend using Chasmado Kernel and it will automatically install safe recovery files. TWRC or CMD Recovery

Hi All,
I'm totally new in android community and I'm just a plain user. no stunt expert. No different with any noob lady who just use the phone for sms, whatsaap, calls and photos.
Lately my galaxy note have been super sluggish! Been notice it's slow since upgraded it to Jelly bean but recently it is really getting onto my nerves!!! when I can't even type correctly on whatsapp.
Can someone please guide me how to thoroughly clean format (reset) my phone and re-install it with latest built?
root or recommend to use the stock built?
Please help...
Jamie
Anything you want about root, clean install, etc is here on XDA, try to search it first
Hey jamielkl
I just did a clean install myself yesterday but that wasn't due to sluggishness of JB rather than some other issue. JB have worked wonderfully well for me better than ICS if I can say that. Anyways coming back to topic, this is how I usually do it-
Take backup of your apps/contacts/photos/videos and everything. I do it after Step 2 - as I use Titanium Backup to do that and it requires root access and it's also a way to ensure that the safe kernel is now installed.
Note - Don't go to Stock Recovery and Wipe Anything, it can brick your phone. Please search and read there are plenty of topics warning about this.
1) Download the latest Rom for your region on your computer/laptop, From here Please read the topic carefully and download the one for your region...
Check the md5 checksum (if available). Unzip it and you will get a "*.tar.md5" file. Download odin and keep it in the same folder (not necessary but I do it this way only.
2) Install the appropriate Philz Kernel, From here Don't wipe anything from Stock Recovery Please take time to read the topic carefully as to which kernel should you choose and how to flash.
After flashing the Philz kernel I usually reboot my phone and take backup of my apps via Titanium Backup. If you don't want/need to do this you can go to Step 3.
3) Reboot recovery (Important) and confirm that you now have Philz kernel with CWM recovery instead of the stock one. Now once you have confirmed that you are on a safe kernel follow the procedure below-
Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache
Under mounts and storage - Format System, Format Preload
Under Advanced - Wipe dalvik cache
Then again went to Wipe data and clicked the option "I want to install a New Rom"
4) Power off your phone
5) On your computer/laptop
- If you have Kies Installed, Kill Kies and any process relating to kies running on your system (Use Task Manager to do it)
- Close your Antivirus sotware
- Open Odin as Admin (Download from the link I gave in point one also remember to download the drivers in case you don't have them installed on your system.)
- Click on PDA and then browse to the tar.md5 file and select it. Don't touch anything else at all.
6) Put your phone on download mode by pressing Vol down + Home + Power Button. You will get a message something like "Installing custom rom is dangerous and blah blah, push Vol Up to install custom rom".. Push the Vol Up button, now your phone is in download mode.
7) Connect USB Cable to phone and PC, you will see the tab (On Odin) turning yellow with 0:[Com05] or something like this only.
8) Click on Start and wait

Although I think I have given you all the needed information and also correct information, please read the topic(s) (Dr. Ketan's and Philz) before doing anything as I might be wrong and I take no responsibility for this. Please read a few topics as to how to flash a safe kernel and Rom. I am just trying to help you with the knowledge/information I have.
Good luck :good:
My Samsung Galaxy Note N-7000 is stuck on Samsung logo, I have some photos still not backup, I tried to root my device but unsuccessful:crying:. How can i backup my data? or what can i do in recovery mode?
What steps did you take to root?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thank you for your reply. Here are the steps i did:
1. I was download a file (00-Note_ICS_Root) on other website. when i unzip this file, there are two files CWM.zip (clockworkmod recovery) & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip.
2. Copy them to external micro sdcard, and boot into recovery mode
3. Choose "apply update from external storage"
4. Go to "00-Note_ICS_Root" folder and choose CWM.zip, the screen show a few lines of texts and boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
5. There are 7 options, (1. reboot system now, 2. install zip from sdcard, 3. wipe data/ factory reset, 4. wipe cache partition, 5. backup and restore, 6. mounts and storage, 7. advanced) I was choose option 2, then follow the steps and choose the "SU-Busybox-Installer.zip"
6. After the phone loading something and show completed, reboot system.
00-Note_ICS_Root attached for your reference, thanks!
ICS and cwm.zip: risk of hard bricking your device.
So, if you only choose option 2 this shouldn't have happened until now.
But stop using this!
First of all get into safety:
Download a JB stock Rom and install it with PC Odin (read here).
If this works then you didn't brick your device.
After this you can try to root your device again (if you really need this and accept to learn and read).
ThaiDai, I have fixed the problem and get back my data already, thank you so much for your help!

How did you fix it?
I recently flashed Paranoid android 3.9 on a Galaxy Note N-7000, was working fine until it switched off. Every time I switch it on, it doesn't go past the "Samsung Galaxy Note" boot page. I can't get to the recovery options either.
Please Help!
Flash a custom kernel tar file from odin (like philz) and thus will give you access to recovery. Then you can reflash the same rom again.
OR
Flash a stock JB rom using odin and phone in download mode.

I had same issue. In recovery mode I did again dirty flashed the pa ROM and then cleared the dalvik cache (which is important)
This should do the trick

Solution
Please do Following:-
Normally such problems occur if Dirty Flash is made. you need to boot into recovery and wipe data, cache and Delvik Cache.
If you cant boot into recovery unfortunately you have to do what i suggest in succeeding lines;
Download Stock Rom and Odin on PC from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
there is also a guideline how to flash Stock rom with Odin.
Home+Vol Down+ Power button will take you to Download Mode. Press volume up button once and connect the phone to PC. Open Odin and Flash the stock rom (Complete Guide on above referred thread)
Once done with it .. let the phone to start
Now download Philz Recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Please remember to download corresponding recovery as mentioned in Post 2 & 3
Put it into SD card
Now boot into Recovery mode. With Default Recovery Flash Philz Recovery and Reboot into Recovery.
Now your Note is rooted and you can safely install any Rom .. Remember always be on safe kernel before you flash any rom
Hy
I see that a lot of people (so did I) had problems of going back to stock, so i wil write a little guide for doing this.
I am not responsibility i anything goes wrong.
Before starting you need the following:
Odin3-v3.07 => you can find it here (CF-Auto-Root)
firmware => http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Before we begin, we need two files. The firmware that you have downloaded and also a file rom this firmware called hidden.img.tar.
Open your firmware with winrar and extract the file "hidden.img". When you have this file rename it to "hidden.img.tar"
Now we can really begin
step 1: (optional)
go to recovery (Vol+ & home & Pwr) and wipe your phone.
step 2:
Open Odin as administrator and put your phone in download mode ( Vol - & home & Pwr)
Click on the "AP" button and choose your firmware.
When the firmware is loaded click "start". The firmware will now being flashed on your phone. Most likely you wil get an error after a while when it was flashing the "hidden.img" file (no stress
step 3:
Unplug your phone and reboot it again to download mode (nothing else will work at this point) and connect it again to your PC. In Odin click again on the "AP" button and choose the file that we have created before the "hidden.img.tar" file. When loaded click on "start".
You don't get an error this time and your phone will restart and your phone is being flashed. when your are stuck at a bootloop, go to step 4
step 4:
Put your phone in recovery mode (will look a bit different if you had custom recovery before) and wipe your phone back to factory settings
I hope that this can help other people who where stuck trying to go back to stock
That's a good guide, thank you, worked for me flawlessly.
It might however be good to add: be patient on first boot! It takes ages
Hmm I am not sure. But for me the step 3 was not needed. I did not get error for hidden.img
Is it OK ? I was following your guide did everything as you wrote here till step 3 but during flashing the error was not there
Hope it will be working. Right now it is doing the first boot so waiting and waiting. Hope it will work as I need to return this phone to my older brother who borrow it to me. And I want to give him the phone as it was when he gave it to me.
Hello, i have bought Samsung Galaxy S5 MINI model SM-G800F.
There is Cyanogenmod 12.1-20150707-unofficial-kminilte
android version 5.1.1
baseband (i think) G800FXXU1AOF5
Problem is with MMS - I cant send or receive it thats why
id like to go back to stock rom, but i need few details.
i know how to do it in theory, but first of all, i dont know nothing about what last user have done witch phone, what schould i check to not brick my phone?
in your description is written to download Firmware, tell me pls, which version i have to download, my orginal is (i think) :
PDA/AP Version G800FXXU1AOF5
CSC Version G800FDBT1AOF1
MODEM/CP Version G800FXXU1AOF5
Region DBT — Germany
Build Date 2015-06-29
Changelist 5268468
OS KitKat
OS Version 4.4.2
but this is old kitkat and now i have got version 5.1.1 can i use any rom or that one orginal or only newer or the same version is already installed?
second question i bought this phone from Germany and i live in Poland, can i flash my phone with stock polish version of for example PLAY carrier or i have to do it only witch orginal German stock ROM?
thanks for replay T_M
now i know my model is SM-G800FZKADBT so i can only download rom for this model - yes?
Sorry for pulling this old thread from its grave.
I have wiped my Samsung S5 min (SM-G800F, DBT) completely, i.e. all(!) partitions and also did a "format data", since no data worth to keep were on it. Then I started Odin as admin, placed the official latest Samsung FW (G800FXXU1CRG3_G800FDBT1CRE1_G800FXXU1CRG3_HOME.tar.md5) in the "AP" field, had only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" under "Options" ticked, and nothing under "Pit". The flashing worked without errors and the S5 mini rebooted. The "SAMSUNG" logo was blinking for about 10 minutes, but I was already warned that this first boot may really take a while. Finally, the device successfully booted into regular/stock system.
Now my questions:
So far, have I done everything right to go back to stock? I have not tampered with a "hidden.img" or "hidden.img.tar" file, hence this question.
Next, I would like to flash the latest official TWRP. Is it right to put "twrp-3.3.1-0-kminilte.img.tar" in the "AP" field of Odin (as before for the stock FW) and flash it? I would this time not select "Auto Reboot", but instead after successful flashing, plug the USB cable, remove the battery, place it back, and start the S5 mini (SM-G500F) to recovery by holding power + home + volume up. Correct?
Finally, I would lake to have Magisk. Is it right to place the official "Magisk-v20.2.zip" on the external SD card (oh, I wiped that before, too) and to flash it from recovery (TWRP) and then reboot the device to system?
Do I have to enable the developer options and (also?) ADB debugging for any of the aforementioned steps?
Thanks a lot for your helpful hints.
PS:
Stock worked nicely. Then I enabled developer options, ADB debugging, and flashed 1. TWRP (step 2 above) and 2. Magisk (step 3 above). Booting to system took much longer while a message about Android being started and App No. x of y being optimized. Since stock ROM contains tons of crappy apps, this took quite a while. I wonder why now (after flashing TWRP and Magisk) the system sees the need to optimise apps. Ah, is it because I also wiped cache and dalvik cache from TWRP after flashing Magisk? Maybe this was not needed, I dunno...
