Hello everyone, I seem to have a problem with my phone, This has been happening since last night. The day I woke up, everything was perfect, then around mid-day, I charge my Note 5 through my computer, then every 1-2 seconds my computer starts playing the disconnected/reconnected sound, and on the other side, the Note 5 flashes on showing that it's charging with a vibration. So I remove the charger, and then the phone continues to flash on with a vibration and saying that it's charging repeatedly, even when the nothing is connected. It also shows the neat little charging animation on the bottom of the screen when you charge it. So in conclusion, when charging, it rapidly disconnects/reconnects flashing the lock screen, with a vibration and charging animation, however upon removing charger, effects still apply. (Appears to be charging when nothing is plugged in. Any tips or advice will help. Thanks.

The other day I was in a hospital and my phone was next to the bed but the charger wire was tangled in the bed. So a nurse came up and rolled out the bed and the phone fell from quite high on the (hard) floor.
It still worked, screen wasn't cracked so I didn't think much of it.
But now, the phone can be charged with the charger. As soon as I unplug the charger there are 2 things that can happen:
1. The phone keeps saying it's charging. Other than that the phone is fully functional. Battery drain is much higher though, in 10 minutes I lose 7% battery.
2. The charging icon in the battery will flash on and off. When I switch off the screen, the lock-screen immediatly turns on and the text charging blinks, it's like someone is plugging in the charger and takes it out immediatly, battery drain is even higher when this occurs, I lose 50% within the hour, depending of what I'm doing.
Sometimes the problem is not there, the phone will function normally, but the problem will come back within 1 or 2 hours and usually when I plug in a charger and take it out later. Also, sometimes it seems the phone is not charging and the charge indicator will stay at a certain percentage but when I reboot the phone it it fully charged (according to the indicator).
First I thought it was an android problem. But when I switch off the phone the charging image appears as well and starts blinking, also the menu and back button flash on and off. It's also quite difficult to switch on the phone at this point and the battery image shows only the outline of the battery, not how much charge is in it.
So far I tried 2 other chargers, 2 other batteries (1 original Samsung and 1 after market). Rebooted the phone many times and left the battery out for an hour.
Anyone knows of what causes such a problem? Of course, the fall was the start of the problem. Could there be some pins bent in the usb socket of the phone?

I had a problem recently in which even though I kept my phone on charging (and it showed that it is charging), the battery percentage either remained same or it went down even though it was plugged in.. went to samsung and they said the usb port is damaged and they replaced it.. I think the same resolution will be for your problem
Mmm....makes sense. What does Samsung charge for that?
Sent from my GT-P7310 using XDA Premium HD app
This problem started like 3 weeks ago. I locked my phone and left to do some stuff, and when I came back and unlocked it, the phone thought it was being charged. I plugged it to the charger and unplugged it to see if the problem would stop. It didn't. I plugged it in again and left it there for a few minutes, and when I checked, it was discharging. I pulled out the battery and put it back in after a few minutes and the phone turned on by itself. It is worth mentioning that I'm running Carbon 4.4 from NovaFusion, and you may already know that when the phone is plugged to the charger, it reboots if you power it off. When it turned on, it still thought it was being charged. It discharged after a few minutes, and I left it plugged in to charge while off... And when it turned it back on, the problem stopped. After that, sometimes when I plug it to the charger, it won't detect it, I have to reboot the phone for it to start charging.
A few days ago I turned it off with 85% battery left, and when it turned it back on it showed 0%... And now my phone shuts down without warning randomly. It also freezes and reboots when I plug it to the charger sometimes. I've tried changing the ROM, (to golden-guy's Omni and stock), but those problems persist.
That's why I ask, is it a bad battery o a damaged charging port? Thanks in advance.
Forgot to add, sometimes when it freezes and reboots, it freezes on bootanimation and restarts itself again...
Sounds like a bad battery to me, but wait and see what others will say. It may as well be a faulty usb charging port. If it just had random reboots, I could swear that it's the battery, but with the other stuff you said it seems like something inside the port has gone wrong and thinks it's charging when it's not and the opposite. Sorry, but can't help much as I've never had this exact problem (I've had a similar one) so I'm only guessing right now!

I forgot to say that it freezes on bootanimation and restarts. Does that bring any clue?

That's normal when the phone has no battery left (or thinks it doesnt't). There just isn't enough power to boot the phone up, but it knows that there's some little power left so it continues to try booting unsuccesfully, resulting in a bootloop If you leave it to reboot for a few mins it might shutdown permanently. That means the battery has absolutely no power left (or it could think it doesn't, when it has, if it's damaged like yours).
S3 mini charging when unplugged
I bought a phone off ebay and was having the same problem. Random usb driver errors with pc and unable to connect with terminal, Startup loops because phone thinks its on charge etc..
Tried everything to sort it out and failed. Just after I was about to give up and bin the phone, I tried to slightly pry the little plate on the USB port upwards with something non conductive. Ding dong I heard to unplug sound animation and the charging icon disappeared
Had no problem since.
Alright, so I was clumsy enough to drain my Xperia SEVERAL TIMES.
Honestly I blame the software or calibration, but also myself, since it didn't shut down when it should.
The following would happen, that my phone wouldn't charge. No red LED, nothing. Then when it showed, after countless tries and different power sources, it finally did. It worked like 3 times. Then it started shutting down at 30%, then once when I was using it at 50%. All of a sudden. Since then, it died. It didn't charge, even after I left it for 2 days on the charger. I tried every week, but nothing would happen. Eventually the phone would start vibrating when plugged into the charger, and just die after exactly 30 minutes, every time, giving pulses of vibration.
I opened up the phone, disconnected the battery, and pressed the connector of the vibration motor.
When the vibration is non-stop, even whent he phone is off, it's because of a faulty vibration motor itself, or its connector!! I only had to press it and it stopped.
I left the battery disconnected for 1 to 2 weeks, I don't remember. When I felt the CPU cover, it was kind of electrocuting me. I put a paper between the black strip that leads between the battery and the motherboard, to which somehow the electrocution stopped. I left it charging for 2 days, with the RED led full on all the time. I gave it little hope, but I still pressed the power button mutliple times through out the charging time. This morning, te RED led was Dark Red, very weak. I pressed PWR + VLM DOWN and it gave a little pulse.
It's alive again! I let it charge to 100%, made immediately a backup, and I'll see if it will keep working. I will have to send the phone back to Sony anyway, as I think that the vibration motor will start acting up again as soon as I pick up the phone from the table (it's that sensistive yes). Also, I cannot leave the paper there, and I just want a full functioning phone. Only need to get the silicone glue strip from a distributor that I know so I can properly close it off.
I didn't send it because I needed my data, basically.
I would say, if your phone doesn't react to anything and you're out of warranty, it's worth it to keep trying to charge it, or take the shortcut and buy a new battery, open the phone and connect the new battery. It's really that simple. Otherwise, it might be your motherboard that's dead.
I hope this could help some future troubles of XDA's. Maybe make a new sticky, as this question comes along quite often?
Hello!
Last night I was on messenger, casual stuff like every night (I have had this phone for 3 years soon), phone didn't overheat, I don't remember exactly what I was doing but suddenly my phone screen turned black. The buttons and charging led were still on. (Yes I was charging at same time). I couldn't turn my phone on and it was 2 am, so I didn't feel like trying to do anything with it.
I left it charging, and today morning, it still doesn't turn on while charging! I need it to charge since my battery is like 7%, but the phone freezes whenever I plug the charger in!
I have done factory reset already, thought that would help but nope.
Please help! Thanks
I was messing aorund with it more and found out that my phone turns completely off when charging. While charging I can get factory reset screen up if i press power + volume down, but nothing else. Still need help.
Just leave my phone on its charger base and after it reaches 100%, it keeps having the 100% full notification with the Yellow Star. It keeps on doing this every now and then, maybe like every 5 - 10 mins, which is quite bothering as I keep looking at it whenever it displays the notification.
Is this okay? Seems like the phone doesn't like to be charged all the time and asking to take it out from the charger.
Nevermind, seems like the issue is with the USB plug with 3 ports. Not sure why but after I changed to another port, the issue is no longer there.
Issue has been resolved
