I'm looking to get a Dot View case. But the official HTC one does not rest flat on a table due to the spring in the case. But, is there any third-party dot-view that rests flat on a table rather than at an angle?

I bought this case from ebay, it rests flat on the screen
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Slim-DOT-...hash=item2ed42e1e24:m:mv75jEKm24ySmpK0f55v2UQ
Not that it helps you but I bought an original HTC dot view case off Amazon. It rested flat. Seems to be a hit-or-miss scenario with the originals.

Got my official HD2 flip top case today... it's ok, but doesn't clip closed securely. Fit round the device and camera is good but just let down by the catch.
Would not recommend as when it pops open, the clip tends to sit right onto the speaker and pressure would likely cause damage to the screen/ speaker.
I'm surprised to hear that. althought I'm using a Piel Frama iMagnum at the moment, I really like the PO S511 Case..!! the one I have closes really good, I worried about that as well but the end of the closing/catch is just big enough so it won't fit into the speaker.. maybe you can try to bend it a little so it will close better..
I find the design rather brilliant, the way it follows the tappered design of the HD2, I mean the bottom part of the case is just a little bigger then the bottom of the HD2 and the top flip fit's precisely inside the screen, and offers great protection for your screen when it's in your pocket of you open jacket and you might accidently hit something. I liek the way it closes, you can open and close it easily with one hand and because it has no snaps it lays flat on the table and makes it about the least bulky flip case you can find.
Also, call me weird, but it smells exactly like a p-dair case when it's new, I would not be surprised if they where made by them for hTC.
I have only seen pictures of this case, and I am curious as to how it works. Is the device itself somehow strapped or mounted to the case so that it doesn't fall out when the case is flipped open?

it makes use of the smart tapered designed sides of the hd2.. the sides of the case are slightly bended inwards so the HD2 slides in like a V-groove untill it hits the slightly upwards bended connectors of the flip on the bottom. althought it clamps pretty good by itself, it's prevented from sliding out by the hole in the back, that's perfectly placed for the camera, speaker and flash, and the camera kinda locks the device inside the case.. it's all very smart designed for such a simple case.
I'm using the same case.... seemed v tight to start. actually it's a perfect fit, and I mean perfect... and the clip is secure without being over-tight. I'm amazed at the precision, but, being leather, i can believe that there may be variation & some may not be as good a fit??
I just received mine and I am loving it. The original pouch was always a hassle to take the phone out and it was a two handed operation. Now I can quickly flip open and close the case with one hand. There seems to be two variations of this case. When mine arrived I was surprised to see it was trimmed with grey stitching. The web site I ordered it from had picture of it with Yellow stitching similar to the original pouch.

it's great isn't it. yes, mine is dark brown with grey stitching while I ordered a black one with grey stitching.. (from the pictures) The one with the yellow stitching is the same as the original puch.. (at least as mine). Still looking for a black one..
After reviewing several different version of Dot View Case Clone, I ordered mine at Amazon for $10 here http://amzn.to/1uCKago
This one stated that it is using the same material as the HTC version else some other version uses leather front cover with cut out holes which I'm worried that swiping on it wont be as smooth.
Anyone had the leather front cover version? They have some nice colors especially the gold color for my gold M8.

I purchased this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/291190318285, which should be here today or tomorrow. It arrived at my post office about an hour ago. I'll post my thoughts here in the next couple days.
Ordered one off eBay. Hopefully it is good but if not eBay does have their guarantee so I think its worth the risk.

Got this case yesterday. I have a OEM dot view case as well that I broke trying to stretch it. This cover isn't quite as thick/sturdy but other than that I can barely tell a difference between the two. It mentions on the eBay item that it's "Dot View Flip Leather Case" though none of it seems leather to me. I did pull on it a bit to get it to fit on my glass screen protector and it sits almost flush. Better than the OEM case.

That looks pretty good. Does it function perfectly as well? What did you do with your broken one? If the actual cover piece is intact, I may be interested in taking it off your hands, haha. I really wish the dot view case covered the right edge of the phone...

Yeah it works well. Not as snappy closing and folds over easier than the OEM which I like. I wish they made one that didn't automatically close though. I was hopping the "leather" feature would be the folding side and it would lay open if I wanted it to. OH well. It folds more flat than the original at least.
I have my old one. Basically the cover tore off the back when trying to stretch it to fit over my glass screen protector. I then glued it into a cheap case I got off Amazon and it fit decent but wasn't perfect and the view through the case just seemed off. Here's a couple pictures of my MacGyver'd case.

Yep. This one, http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6100440084.html . Did save me last weekend though. I have a decent chip on the bottom right edge of it. I don't remember dropping my phone but I was at a party and far from sober.

That's exactly what my idea was. I wanted to find a way to incorporate the cover into my current case which provides much more coverage than the Dot View does.
Might have to try this out
I like my pure-gear case, but I've always been intrigued by the dot view...
Never buy the knockoff, the quality sucks. You get what you pay.
i got this:

Received mine today, I didn't own the OEM version so am unable to compare but this version seems just fine and works exactly like the original version.
I bought one from miniseller in ebay. I got it today only they sent me a case that isn't a dot view and it is for the m7

I got one for about $15 off eBay.. It has htc logos on it but almost certainly is a knock off. Sad part is that it doesn't close all the way with my tempered glass screen protector so it's kind of a waste of money. I've seen some posts that say it will close better after about a week but I tend to doubt it.
Quality seems fine and about the same as the authentic ones.

I got a knockoff from ebay as well. Though it doesn't say htc anywhere on it. IMO it's way better than the OEM one. The hinge allows the cover to lay flatter when opened than the OEM one I have and it does work fine with my .33mm glass screen protector. It did seem to break in as at first it would lay almost flat but not quite. Now it lays flat. No complaints!

Thanks... I'll put it back on for a few days and see if it improves. I have a iloome glass protector on. Fingers crossed
I bought this one from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LXYN6ZI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It definitely isn't as nice a quality as the OEM Dot View but it does fold flatter against the back. It seems to function perfectly but does not lay perfectly flat as I have a .33 tempered glass screen protector. I'm actually think about hitting it wit a heat gun to help it out a little bit.
I would never have bought the OEM case at the price they were charging for it, but this knock off was certainly worth the $9.94 I spent on it.
I have the same case as poster above me it was surprising better than the knockoff I bought in the U.S which the inside start to peel, didn't have htc logo on it and was more money.

I paid $12.99 on eBay for a knock off case. I paid the extra 3 bucks because it had the HTC logo on front and on the back. So far it's fine.
Someone just posted a disturbing issue with the dot view case magnet leaving an 'imprint' on the screen. It's in the accessories section.
Should we start worrying about this from our dot view cases?

I keep my phone extremely clean all the time. Since I got my phone on launch, I've always had a case of some sort on it. Usually, I always revert back to using the Dot View Case. But today, I was wiping what I thought was a smudge on my screen and discovered that the magnet on the front of the Dot View Case behind the HTC logo had etched a mork into my screen. I am so upset at this fact that an HTC branded product would cause this. Has this happen to anyone else and is there anything I can do about it? Even through HTC? I live in Canada and am a Rogers customer. If that helps. But either way, the Dot View Case is done for me.
send it to me ;p

Well, I just decide to get mine once I saw that the prices had dropped to $27 mark on Amazon. I see that the magnet is in front of a thin plastic dotted sheath, so was not really expecting what happened in your case. Did you happen to press down on the front of the case really hard, like for example in your hip pocket or a heavy bag sitting on your lap with the phone in front jeans pocket?
The Dot view case is cheaply made. it should not even be considered a protective case at all. It is purely for looks. dont plan on gettin one unless you can keep your phone in a safe place all day without dropping it ever. Or putting any pressure on the front flap everyday in your pocket. The corners of my rubber are all peeling off revealing thin metal frame. ~ 6months with the DOT view case.
My dot case is fine. I've dropped it a few times and it's held up. Now that the op has mentioned that the magnet leaves a mark it has so indeed. I haven't noticed it until now!
Luckily I use a extreme guard wet apply screen protector with my dot view case, so the magnet only marks the protector.
But can confirm that this does indeed happen.
Don't have any issues with mine...I guess HTC can't please everyone...

Once I dove in and read more about this fantastic phone, I found about the potentially awesome HTC Dot View feature. So one day shopping on eBay, I decided on the Rock APP Smart UI case. Oh boy, do I regret my $17.50 purchase...Here's why:
Pros:
Dot View feature works well.
Phone buttons are very easy to utilize.
Easy to install on the phone.
Includes very nice and useful accessories.
Packaged well in retail box.
Cons:
Its advertized as transparent view wallet case when clearly it isn't (its just a slightly thinner see-through material)!
It's not a wallet case (Where can you put your credit card(s)?!
The overall case design is very rubberized (not a hard case).
When the phone is inside the case, there is a very noticeable gap (between the lid and case).
The retail packaging looks very nice and high-quality (Compared to most eBay aftermarket cases).
Comes with a lot of cool stuff (Screen dust absorption sticker, Sponge Bob Square Pants lanyard, a very sturdy and rubberized sim/micro-USB ejector tool, 2 micro fiber cloths, 2 in-ear headphone covers, a well made rubber micro-USB dust cover, and a stylus).
The rear of the case looks very nicely made and looks very tasteful.
When there's no phone in the case, there isn't a discernible gab between the lid and the case.
Now once there's a phone in the case, there's a huge gap!
This gap affects how well the Dot View functions (On some angles, notifications are blurred).
This is what the case is suppose to look like (when the lid is completely closed).
Okay, clearly the seller of this particular situation is just trying to market this case so he/she can get the most out of it...But come on...Half the thing's the seller is stating that this case is or can do, isn't!
The primary reason I wanted this case was because I was lead to believe that the lid of the case was either made out of clear acrylic or some transparent film. So buyer beware. False advertizing and misleading high resolution pictures may lead to a regrettable purchase...

excuseme where can i buy this cover?
sorry for my english
I want one!!!! Where can i find it???
Been using the Otterbox Defender lately on my One (M8) since I work as a mechanic and my phone has a tendency to get dropped or run into things. I've also been using the holster so the screen doesn't get sweaty and covered in pocket lint. I began to realize that I very rarely took the phone out of the holster without then turning the screen on so I decided to make it automatically happen. I bought these and drilled a 1/4" hole in the holster (see photo) in the place where the dot view cover's magnet would be. As far as I can tell, the magnet can go in 1 of 2 places. Either where I placed it or on the point opposite of it (above and left of the clip pivot as opposed to below and right in the picture I've attached). So far everything is working as expected, phone activates when removed from the holster and shuts its screen off when It is replaced. It doesn't interfere with the case being used as a kickstand as far as I've found. You can see in the one photo where the belt clip is rotated that there is a hole where the magnet was inserted that could be easily filled with a black epoxy to make it less obvious but the clip covers it so I didn't bother. I could have also painted the magnet black rather that use a black sharpie on it to make it match the rest of the holster better. Just thought I'd share.
Cool idea , I use the Otterbox for mine as well . Never thought of doing this sort of mod . Good work

If you want some more detailed instructions I could take measurements on where to put the magnet, just didn't feel like it at the time. It was late and I was tired.
If you could post measurements that would be awesome
Here you go. If you carry on the left side, youll need to flip the case but it should be the same measurement. The magnet sensor in the phone is on the left side just below the center line.
