Has anyone managed to use the barometer sensor? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
As in the subject, has anyone managed to use in any way the barometric sensor in this phone? This device is advertised as having one (besides Temperature sensor) but I can't find any app to detect it. I am struggling with Motorola support but they are giving me dumb/standard instructions. I saw here few threads with the same subject but they are dead for some time...
thanks

I think only the Moto X 2013 has the Barometer sensor, as I tried some different Barometer apps and they can't seem to find it, that as CPU-Z doesn't list it either...

Then gsmarena and other sites are wrong..

Adding ffc to nexus one, suggestions?

Well I have some extra time and money on my hands, and I was wondering if this would be possible in any way? If I got the same exact camera for the nexus one, is there any room or any way I could add it in? I was thinking of cramming it in there, and having both cameras connected to a switch/button I could have coming out the top of the phone? So I could make it where if the switch/button is pressed it would change which camera being used. I've looked at teardowns and I can't tell if this would be possible or not, nor do I even know if its technically possible or not because I don't know if the camera connections could be set up this way. Anyone tried this before?/Suggestions?/Discussion?

hi
i dont know how to help you but i am very sure, that there was a hardware mod where someone added a front facing camera to a phone that didn`t have one.
i think it was even featured on the xda frontpage and it might have been a samsung phone.
you might wanna look that one up and maybe it helps you
good luck with your Project!
Yeah, I remember seeing that on Engadget, it was a Galaxy S variant if I remember correctly.

Yeah I looked into that a little but this is a little bit of a different situation, considering those phones had an actual slot available for a ffc.

True, what about the proximity and light sensors in the to left corner of the Bezel? Do you use auto brightness?

I could easily go without that lol but I guess I'm wondering more about being able to attach two nexus one cameras to a switch, what parts would I use and is it possible? I don't know anything about that

nfc is on but unresponsive

As the title says nfc is on but dont seem to work? I have tried another phone to check to see if it was my ONE and the pair passed data fine.
Please if any one has an idea on what im doing wrong im willing to listen?
Reading the reviews linked here i see a lot of bias against this handset/ shame really as most of them either havent used a ONE or are talking out their arse.
The phone experience with the exception of this issue has had only one other issue the back button does not respond i have read about it here and wait to see what happens?
The overall experience has been very positive in my opinion?

Yes. Also, the NFC works only when the device is on and unlocked.

Tried everything, thanks for the responses, but seems like after a factory reset all is well?
Mine doesn't work either. When I turn on my NFC, I don't even see that "N" logo on my menu bar like in this pic
Mine don't show that icon either but the NFC works now?
I have found that the NFC on the HTC one is not as responsive as other phones, (probably due to metal back).
I have found that this causes issues with certain NFC devices do not work.
so far it have found it works ok when using nfc to use android beam to another device BUT it is unable to read certain NFC devices, in Hong Kong we have Octopus nfc cards for public transport, they even released an app so you can check the balance on the card. I have tested and Xperia Z and Nexus 4 can read my card ok, but the HTC One cannot read the card, i can feel the small vibrations on the htc which shows it starts to detect the card but never manages to properly read it.

How do we test for defects upon purchasing the phone?

Does anyone know how can we check the phone for defects like dead pixels, etc when buying the phone? Does it have any test codes to enter just like Samsung phones with the *#0*#??
Thanks!

You can download "dead pixel test" from the play store.

I've found this test menu code from an online source
*#*#3424#*#*
Can someone with a HTC One help to confirm if the code works on their phone?
Oh my, what is this obsession in this forum with dead pixels. Every day there's a thread about dead pixels. Still wondering how you can detect one dead pixel on a 4.7" 2.1 megapixel display. You have to have microscopic eyes, that's for sure.

Yes, I do agree with you that its pretty difficult to detect a single dead pixel in a 4.7" 1080 HD screen. However, you can use the same test to detect if there's a cluster of dead pixels present. There are also other features that needs to be tested (LED notification, speakers, mic, camera, wifi, etc). Manufacturers only do batch sample testings and does not test each inidvidual phone before shipment. So it is only up to us, the consumers, to test the them out before accepting our purchased products.

Is not obsession. Is about getting a good quality product with the amount of money you are paying! Why get a defected good when you can check before you purchase? If you don't feel like helping at all, don't even reply please.

You're so right and helpful! Unlike others, posting replies for the sake of post counts.
And thanks very much with the code. Hope it will work when I'm purchasing the phone.
The code works. It is not helpful for dead pixel testing.

[Q] Does the Moto X have an ambient thermometer and barometer?

I don't have this device and am reading conflicting reports online. It doesn't help that their official site doesn't list any full specs. Can someone who owns a Moto X please confirm that it actually has a pressure and ambient temperature sensor?

I am also very curious about this, as I build pressureNET. I emailed Motorola recently to ask, they responded "At this time the full Moto X specifications has not been released." It seems to be a huge secret what sensors are on board. If anyone knows and has some real proof please tell us!

I don't think that's an ambient thermometer, barometer works correcting but I promise you it's not 80 degrees in my room right now so most likely that's the chipset temp.
Ambient temperature sensor its not, although you would physically now if its hot or cold in your location, my temp sensor says it 89 degrees, oh well

In the the Android API there are two temperature sensors. One has been deprecated since ICS and replaced by "TYPE_AMBIENT_TEMPERATURE." In my Weather Station app I only use this new ambient temperature sensor... so I'm curious whether it actually works on the Moto X. If it doesn't it would show up as N/A in the app.

List of Supported Camera Sensors for RN4X SD

Hi all,
I used an app which showed the list of supported camera sensors for mido. See attached picture.
It would be awesome if someone can find one a better Sony module out there which fits this phone.
https://prnt.sc/hn3bck
well i see the imx378 is on that list? same sensor as used in the google pixel
this list.. is it sensors which are electrically compatible, or physically compatible? no good if it doesnt fit in the phone, or requires a different lens setup. the 378 sensor for example is 7.8mm . the standard sony chip used is 5.8 mm.. i cant imagine that working without an entirely new lens setup, and probably case mods.

I used an app from the Google Play store called Device Info HW which shows you everything about your device. This app detected all the above camera drivers installed (front and back cameras) on the device.
I did a bit of research online, but have yet to find a module that may fit on the Note4X. So like you say, it may need an entirely new lens setup even if is "supported".
So I'm not sure why Xiaomi would include these drivers in the system folder though? It did have drivers for all 3 back cameras (Sony, Omnivision, and Samsung), including the qtech and ofilm versions.
Very interesting. I'd like to try a cheap one on that list just to see if it worked but I'd really love to see the pixels camera shoved in there... I found one on 'witrigs.com' (can't link as I'm new) for $20 if anyone fancies taking the plunge.
Any ideas on maybe cutting the back panel to fit the sensor? I'd like to know the dimensions of the samsung/omni/sony lenses used if anyone can find any info on them. Are there any differences between the pixel and pixel XL?

On Q-Tech's website I see they manufacture a bunch of different types of camera modules. The closest dimension I found was 8.5mm(L)*8.5mm(W)*5.3mm(H).

Good work finding this, thanks! That one does seem bigger, the lens itself wider too... Could deal with that when we come to it.
Been looking a little more into this, I wonder how that list of supported cameras are provided by 'device info HW'? They might be physically compatible but to my understanding probably not fully. Looking in system/vendor/lib I can only find the files (are these drivers?) for the 3 different cameras that mido has shipped with. I have zero experience or understanding if its possible to add drivers through kernel or anything though. Maybe a dev or someone with some experience can give some insight but looking at articles like these:
h ttps://www.xda-developers.com/cameras-custom-roms-developers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/
I believe this will be unlikely to work.
@CedricSnail
As you mentioned, the camera libraries are located in 'system/vendor/lib'. For my device I see all the drivers listed by the app in that folder (see attached file). Which ROM are you using? I'm currently using the China Devloper ROM.

Oh wow, I'm on 'lineageos for microg'! Guess that changes things...
I'd be very interested in ordering some and giving this a try, the Z2's imx214 seems cheap so i might try that. I wonder would it be possible to include the libraries in a lineageos build?
Edit: nevermind, the imx 214, 298 and 2nd gen pixels 378 have a different number of pins on the connector from what I can tell from photos. They seem to have 17 pins lengthways as opposed to 15 on the imx258. However the 1st gen pixels imx 378 has 15 pins. I cant find any high resolution photos of the connections though so theres still a chance it may not fit.
Any updates on this ?
DO NOT waste your money on getting a different sensor! Just because the drivers are there, doesn't mean it's gonna work for the same chipset. Not to mention it would be a different size. Unless you can find another Xiaomi device's sensor that has the same processor and the same size and connections, you can't install anything else. Maybe Samsung Sensors could upgrade to a Sony Sensor, but not much more AFAIK.

I just did some research online and I found out that the Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Samsung S5K3P3 16 MP sensor, which is also included as a driver in the Mido folder. I looked on AliExpress and put together a comparison photo of the 2 sensors side by side and it looks like it may fit inside the Mido. (The number of pins are exactly the same)
Does anyone have a spare Note 3 lying around and would be willing to test on their Mido? I'm curious on the camera quality as it is 16MP vs the 13MP.

the best site to get the camera module is aliexpress.com but it is also risky due to scamsters posing as sellers.
Anything new on this topic??
It just shows the Sensors supported by the Board and the Processor. Everything's in the firmware not in the ROMs.
