I have the screen where the phone and computer have a ! between...how do I get into download mode from here so I can use Odin??? I've tried the vol up + vol down + power button and also tried using the command 'adb reboot download' and neither of those work......
Try this.
Open Odin
Remove battery/sim/sdcard
Put battery in
Hold only the volume buttons
Plug USB in
If this doesnt work do the process again but only holding up or down, not both at the same time.

You only have to push the volume down button and plug in the USB cable.
Don't press the power button!

it doesn't work either it only vibrate 3 times
So you can't connect in flash mode, nor in fastboot mode?
Has flashtool worked in the past? If not or if this is the first time you use it, it could be due to missing or wrong drivers.
i used the flashtool before using flashmode however i never tried to use the fastboot.
Will google the tutorial regarding in fastboot and feedback as soon as possible
Press and hold the backside off button till 3 vibrations.
Then try to flash a stock rom with Flashtool. It must work. You can't brick a LBL-ed SP.

Do you have Motorola Device Manager on your PC? If not, install it.
With your phone plugged into the wall, press and hold the power button to see if you can get any response. If not, press and hold the volume down for about 3 seconds, then without releasing the volume down, press and hold the power button. Keep both buttons pressed together for about 3 seconds and release. If nothing happens, press volume up and see if you can get into bootloader mode.
Had you downgraded to 4.4.2 from 4.4.4?
If you can't get into bootloader mode, your only hope other than paying for a repair is this thread here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/bootloader-tool-motoflasher-t2959081. do check any changes in the device manager when your phone gets connected. Any exclamation mark in the device manager while you connect it under usb ports? try changing usb cable and pc and ports.
If it "died" right after you hit install and still connects to PC I doubt it's dead. Try pressing Volume Down and then Power Key, hold both for more than 2 Minutes (yes, more than 120 seconds!) then release both and see if it reboots (which it should if your problem is what I suspect) or you can turn it on again or enter bootloader.
Was the 4.4.2 you tried to upgrade to 4.4.4 modified in any way? SuperSU installed or any changes to system files?

I can't see any changes in the device manager because 5 seconds after i plug in the phone, it "disconnects" so i have no time to check.

Press and hold the volume down button first and don’t let it go.
While holding it down, press and hold the power key as well.
Now, keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more
If that doesn't work, plug the phone in with the original charger and cable then press and hold both the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds while the phone is still connected to the charger
Same happened to me and mine isn't responding
