NOOB NEEDING HELP: Making a Modster? - Off-topic

What's up i hope everyone is doing good
* SKIP THIS TO GET TO PROJECT *
I have a bunch of old phones and tablets, that my kids have destroyed in one way or another, that i want to put together to build something new with. I have no idea if anyone has done something like this before or if its even possible. I have little to no experience in this field, but i have been learning more and more each day. If i posted this in the wrong place or if this group doesn't really like or cover this type of thing, i am also sorry for kinda just kicked in the front door, acting like a drunk asshole, and just started blurting out a bunch of nonsense. Anyway.... The Raspberry Pi is what got me thinking about this kinda project in the first place. i dont have anything i really need one for, im not a developer or programmer, i dont build drones or bots. i just thought i would start with this and see where it goes. I just started using Linux, and getting used to how it runs. i know this will make me seem stupid and probably make a few chuckle , but i went balls deep and made a live partitioned Kali Linux USB. Yep im that guy, no experience but buys the most expensive, and non-noob practical, for pros only edition and gets in way over his head. So yea, I've been playing with that( definitely not *trying* to crack my neighbors WIFI) trying to learn about Pen testing, and getting a feel for linux. So there is the basic feel for the skills i dont have.
* PROJECT, INFO, QUESTIONS, HELP *
I have a few different things that i was wanting to try and build. Like i said above i have a bunch of parts. i will start with a list ideas and then ill list parts. Just a little note i dont have very much money so i cant go out and buy very many extra things to build with. i know this sounds worse and worse but it'll be fun for me and maybe pose a challenge for some of you plus i will get a ton of learning in
* god that sounded bad *
Here we finally go:
An iPhone that runs Kali Linux without a carrier and SIM card. Possible use would be a pocket PEN tool, that still could call and text. First big problem is getting past the no SIM activation screen.
A home controller.
Car music player/ down-loader/ streamer/ gps unit. i have a few phones with broken screens that could be integrated straight into my car or truck and stay there.
Something like a Rasp Pi or arduino. I think it would be fun to try and put one together from scratch, not sure if it even possible with what i have.
A store tracker bugger? Ok so you probably know that stores like to turn on your blue-tooth or contact your phone without your consent or even knowing, well maybe something that doesn't have a screen that just chills in my pocket with my phone and stops or fires back at them. Again not sure if its possible or even a good idea but it crossed my mind.
White hat/ Black hat: Maybe something fun or something really fun. No clue where you guys stand on this but in todays world the only way to "get ahead" is to cross that line. Look at the people running our country, its ****ing scary!!!!! Open to any ideas!!!!! if you have had enough and are leaving, thanks for making it this far!!! IF you plan on continuing, your a bad MOFO!!!
Parts and things that i have:
iphone 5s: No SIM card or little tray that sides that SIM into the phone. Other than that it works good.
Samsung galaxy s3: Everything works, battery life is shot and is extremely annoying
Samsung galaxy s4: Digitizer is broken. Other than that it works great.
ZTE: 830 at&t phone from walmart. everything works plastic screen is cracked
Lg: L16C everything works but i took it apart and it is running with no cover on it.
Hp laptop: Not sure year or anything its in pieces, it was not working before it was taken apart because of a virus.
2x Nextbooks: they are 3 years old and dont turn on. one of them is in pieces and the other is complete.
That pretty much covers it. there might be a few more things i cant think of but nothing major. Well, what do you think? is there the possibility to make something? I think by now your know way more about me than you could have ever wanted, your eyes probably hurt, and you most likely have to pee, so ill hurry, Thanks for your time and for the work you have already put into helping me. I only ask that you just keep this in the back of your head and if something comes to mind, send me a reply. If you hated this and are sick of me, my horrible grammer, bad storytelling and everything else, feel free to tell me when you also have an idea to add.
THANK YOU

Why does everyone appear to complain about their kaiser?

I had this phone for almost two months now and I have not experienced anything that has turned me away from another HTC device. I purchased it with only 35mins of call time for only $210 and I believe its worth double that. My life has become more organized, I get much better reception, I can use the internet at decent speeds, hell and the video quality isn't that bad, i got TT6, and so on.
I've really enjoyed this device, xda, and the learning process.
i've paid 800 cdn when it first came out and dont regret one bit...yes maybe there are issues with the phone but which phone is perfect? its all about personal prefs and give and take..to me this phone is good and i can live with whatever wrong with it...having said that its not the perfect phone cuz everyone wants this n that...i'll still switch over to the x1 just because its new and id like to try it out...if its not good then i'll go back to kaiser...if kaiser isnt good...maybe i'll look into another machine...but a phone is a phone...its not perfect...unless we manufacture our own phones
Since most forums are essentially self-help groups, it's not such a surprise. When I think of my previous WM5 i-mate - the hourly soft re-sets, unreadable screen in sunlight, constant need to re-calibrate the screen, poor receptoion (even though at the time I thought it was the coolest thing) - I thank my lucky stars!
chuk
i agree, its not perfect and the camera is rubbish, i still have the hermes and i prefer the camera on that but, updated hardware and built in gps does it for me.
People should start complaining about things that matter!
I'm irritated on principle about the driver issue - I strongly believe they should have supplied whatever software support was necessary to get the best out of the hardware, because we all paid for the latter and we shouldn't have to get it working ourselves.
On the other hand, generally the performance is acceptable and as a whole the device works very well. I'd probably be more annoyed if I'd paid a lot of money for it, but as it was quite cheap for me I'm more than happy with it overall. But HTC need to take note of the driver furore and the damage it's quite fairly done to their reputation.

I don't! ;-)
No, seriously: I thinks that's a false impression. In this forum you will find a lot of perfectionists who always want to get out the most of their phones. And even if they do, they still look forward in buying the next generation. At least that description fits me. ;-)
I don't complain about mine and I was one of the first people in my area to buy one. I Think someone cried wolf regarding the video driver and now everyone wants to be cool too. I would like to see them but my phone kicks other phones butts for breakfast.
I was perfectly happy with my 8125 (Wizard) until I saw Engadget's preview of the Tilt. I immediately pre-ordered it through AT&T Premier, and had it in hand on launch day. Even though I will probably buy the Xperia sometime next year, I am in no rush to get rid of my Tilt.
As a noob to the whole genre of ppc's... I have to admit from everything i have seen here at work with other pda's and ppc's, My tilt kicks the s--t out of the rest. I know there are complaints about the video drivers but f--k it, i didnt buy my tilt to watch videos... i bought it to take care of my daily needs for when i cant get to my computer....
Probably because it is human nature to complain......
I've had mine since the first of October 07, and haven't really had any issues.
I had to return it because the USB port died. Didn't really like the camera
until the hotfix came out, which pretty much fixed the camera issue for me.
Exactly... Ive upgraded like twice and got the fixes I wanted and I'll tell you I wont get rid of this phone for awhile.
I think the only real reason for a complaint is the driver issue...
people had expectations that the device would out perform a hermes for video playback because of the data sheet and the graphics chip. Then when people got it and it shuddered and such due to no driver support people got mad.
I understand, people bought the phone expecting one thing, spent a lot of $$ and it did not meet there expectations.
Maybe it was their bad for having expectations but, they were founded on qualcomms own marketing for the 7200 chip.
Oh I understand what you're saying about the driver issues, I'd be pissed too if I had bought for those issues. Its HTC/Qualcomms f--- up for putting out the ifo like they did. They have a right to be upset if they bought the phones expecting something that wasnt delivered.
No complaints on my side so far! XDA helped with any issues and couln't be happier. I too will look into the SE Xperia but the Tilt will stay
If it weren't for me finding XDA I probably wouldn't have figured out the possibilities of my tilt. And I have found some really awesome stuff for it.
Sure, I am annoyed that my Kaiser is not being all that it could be as its missing some drivers, but I still like it and don't think I have ever complained.
However, I liked my Hermes. If I had not broken it I would probably not have upgraded when my contract ends in June (I only want a 12 month contract max and am a student, so not a heavy spender and can't really afford £150 for the handset as well as the contract).
I see a note about a HTC Raphael - it might get me to upgrade, but then I might just ignore it as I don't dislike the kaiser. It's not like the Wizard which really annoyed me by the time I upgraded. At the moment the only thing I am interested in is moving to a rolling 1 month contract (which is not a bad deal) and I might buy the Raphael without a contract.
The tilt is the best phone i've ever had. Who says the camera is rubbish?! did you see the panoramic shots some dude took and posted here. Those are clear as crystal. I mean geez people want a perfect cell phone with nikon capabilities. People can't seem to remember that it's a PHONE!!.. if you look at how far we've gotten in technology it isn't a bad device. I personally won't get the Xperia. I'll wait for the next HTC launch. Videos play fine on my phone and I have full movies on my SD card and stream music and videos from my home pc with no problems. People just like *****ing. Like I said before nobody started *****ing until Bill Nye the Science guy started that driver post.
read my signature..
remember people... quest for perfection ends at you feeling empty and betrayed.
I have taken mine to Hell and back ...the fact that it still works is amazing
I realise it has some drawbacks..but I am fine with it. Not changing it anytime soon.
Im quite happy with my tytnII had it for six months now,it is a shame that the drivers are not there for the imageon card, mainly because im a bit of a gamer and was looking forward to seeing what it was capable of.
Unfortunately it seems its not upto much, the slow down on call of duty is laughable i think my nokia 6680 could out peform it.
That aside i am very pleased with it.
If it wasnt that i was put onto this site by someone i probably would have sent it back (HTC TAKE NOTE)...I got this phone free on cotract at the time they were going for £440 pound on ebay i would have been seriously pissed if id paid cash for it outright.
A set of drivers would be sooooo nice,so keep putting in the hard work those who are working on them, and thanks to xda devs a invaluable lifeline to many.

A question about the Tilt and Android before i sell it...

I really like the Tilt, but the WM OS is just not for me. I really, really just hate it.
BUT, before i get rid of it, i wanted to know, is there any hope for the near future of running a custom Andoid rom on this thing? not running it within WM, i'm talking about full blown Android stand alone?
Because if thats the case, i might just throw it in my closet for a few months.
if not, it better start packing its bags tonight!
Sorry for OOT, but I have the same feeling towards the OS, bro.
I hate all M$ product so much (make it PC or PPC), but in the end I HAVE TO USE THEM WHETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT.
Just for the sake of compatibility with so many other person I live and interact with everyday.
You gotta learn to face it mate, hence, the frustration. I knew the feeling.
Actually there are alternatives like palm and apple, but only few uses or supports them. Which will make, in the end, worse frustration.
Android
Hi. See this link if you haven't yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782
I'm sure it's a question of time 'till a standalone version comes out.
Cheers,
Draco
Android will be further down the road but it will be even later when we see a full-blown OS for the Tilt/Kaiser.
Once an Android OS is available though I will be flashing. I cannot stand WinMo either.
Curious but are you going to the iPhone instead?...I don't believe there are any other choices unless you're just going with a regular, non-smart/ppc phone.
Its going to be at least as long as it takes to release the first Android Phone to the general public, once thats done then the platform will open up more and be more accessible to us devs. I think Android is going to be amazing once its up and running properly on the MSM7200 chip set. But your best bet would be to hold on to your kaiser and put it in a drawer some place and buy another phone if you don't like the OS and the GUI that comes with it, if you can afford to do so. I am not a fan boy but if you don't need your phone as a business tool then the new 3G Iphone is the way to go in "MY" opinion (please do not turn this into an Apple VS Mac thread) Bottom line is HTC makes great business phones that they did a great job marketing as a general consumer "media" device which it is in some ways. But if your holding onto your kaiser in hopes of Android making everything perfect then your bubble needs to be burst..

There are many other phones out there beside the HTC and Iphones Nokia makes some amazing phones that would blow the kaiser and Iphone out of the water! Also the new Sprint "Instinct"(i think thats the name) is also a really cool touch screen based device! Soon everything phone is going to be touch screen only, the way that the general consumer thinks touch screens are so High tech and cool....
Apple sold 1 Million phones in 2 days so people must like something about it. Personally if they upgraded the camera and some other things I would be dropping my kaiser in a second for it but I'll wait for the 3rd generation its going to be sick! Last note and I'll stop! Windows Mobile 7 is going to be a radical change for the kaiser and other Windows Mobile based phones so It may be worth it to hold on to your kaiser until that is released
Thanks for the replies fellas. I have been a very happy Symbian S60 user for about 1.5 years now. I bought a Tilt a few months back because i love to tinker, and the Tilt is the Closest competition to the N95, so of course i had to get it. My first and last WM phone though.
My main phone is a Nokia N95-4, and i swap out every once in a while with an N82.
You hit the nail on the head when you say that this is a "i get emails all day, and need to open word documents while on lunch" persons phone. but for me, its so damn frustrating and boring, i want to rip out my eyes. Thing is, take all that away, and your left with a not very good phone.
I just hope there is interest in the Tilt still for someone to make an Android rom by the time it comes out.
All im going to say is that if it werent for XDA-DEV, i would have chucked it out of my window, because the factory HTC roms are for the birds.
Have to comment on this one!
well, first of all i'm not sure our Kaisers can handle WM7 when it comes out. I don't like the current OS we're using and wanna say that i had a chat with a couple of people here on the forums and decided not to get an iPhone (although i still like it) and hold on to my Kaiser and wait for Android. It will take time, though..
I wish i needed a second phone.
I'd love my Tilt even more if the screen was just a little bit better about where i touch it... I do IT for a small company and there are 3 iphones, a lot of junk phones and my Tilt... Tilt does the most, iPhone is the easiest to use.
If you could buy a better screen for the Tilt, I'd throw down an extra $200 on it.
Back to the topic, I'd also recommend saving it, with stuff like this you will never get what it is worth from anyone and if nothing else, you have a tinker toy.
If you dont like kaiser and can afford, u might as well sell it off now. Its nearly an year since its release and that is the approximate life of a handset ( in terms of specification) .Futher down the year htc pro will be released, with better specs and that handset will be better suited for wm7 or android. Both these OS may not work great in kaiser. ( but for me kaiser has been the best handset ever ( thanks to this forum and hang.tuah)

Well - obviously everyone sees something from a different perspective.
As a phone - the tilt is no better or worse than any other phone i have had. Remembering of course that cell signals have gotten better and more prevalent over time (I was an original Cellular One customer).
I do support for software so I need access to email on a pretty constant basis - I would have to get to the hotel immediately and check email - I would constantly have to have my laptop with me to check email to see if there were any problems brewing. I no longer have that "attchment" to the laptop. I have a freedom with this phone that I have never had before.
The fact that I can take it to the gym and listen to bluetooth headphones and get my music PLUS!
The fact that I can watch videos on the plane PLUS!
I can text and take and send pictures PLUS!
The fact that I no longer have to carry TOMTOM with me (the unit) when I am on the road and I ALWAYS have TOMTOM with me PLUS!
The fact that I can now whip out my phone and play a game when i am stuck for a few minutes and bored PLUS!
The fact that I can now find the local theater and see what is playing easily or the local Mexican restaurant PLUS!
The fact that I can get weather anywhere in the world easily PLUS!
The fact that I can get/add/change airline tickets easily PLUS!
The fact that I can add new programs to the phone easily PLUS!
So - from MY perspective - this is a drop dead incredible wonderful cannot do without it tool that makes my life better and more fun. It will only get replaced when there is something better available that does it truly better/faster/cheaper than my TILT.
From my vantage point,
Bill
Somehow, i really really doubt that... WM7 might use graphics a whole lot, and our phone doesnt have acceleration... We can just hope people can cook WM7 with drivers... Plus its still 6 months away, android is our best latest choice...

Have to ask, if you have the better nokia phones, why not just link a N810 tablet to your phone via bluetooth ? They aren't bad little devices. Except they run a version of linux. But there are apps that let you do alot of what you need a PPC/Laptop for.

Diamond destruction

Hey guys,
I had my Diamond for a few months now, and with the help and hard work by the great people in this forum I now got it from "unusable" (the way it was when it came out of the box) to "almost working" after flashing many different ROMs, trying tweaks, installing and uninstalling applications and hacks.
The device still is laggish, slow, unresponsive. Many things still suck hard, and it still crashes at least once a day. The ridiculous fact that there is a "reset manager" installed which does a scheduled soft reset every now and then speaks for itself.
To cut this short, I decided to destroy what I believe is the greatest piece of sh** you could ever put a SIM card into, and I want to do it in the most spectacular way possible.
The reasons for destroying it are:
1. It sucks so hard it makes me aggressive, I feel like throwing it on the ground at least once a day when I wait for an important call only to discover that that sob crashed two hours ago or when a phone call is dropped in the middle of a conversation
2. my friends laugh at me because I have the most sophisticated, most expensive cell phone and I am the one having the greatest trouble with it.
3. It HAS to be destroyed so it doesn't fall into someone else's hands and devours someone else's time, money and energy
4. It's fun, isn't it?
I will make a video of the destruction process and post it either here or on Youtube for the amusement of the community.
What I need now are your suggestions on how to do it. Please participate in the poll attached to this thread and let me know what you think.
i wouldnt mind
hi, i wouldnt mind my time and money devoured by this evil diamond of yours =)
really, but elf broke down today, and i hope they will replace it with something awesomer, but i dont have that kind of money to buy myself a new one =P
you can destroy my touch, it has caused me even more trouble than you diamond i think =D
Give it to someone else...
There are even people finding it fantastic...
Or to a chef, that he can continue to make excellent ROMs...
I think, that Dutty broke his Diamond and is looking for another one...
Ok, I go out...
the point
c'mon you guys, this is not about getting rid of the device. We have a working public service here and they collect trash every two weeks.
No, this is about something else. It is about the question what exactly is happening here, why this forum exists and what has become normal in the world of 2008.
It is that a manufacturer has brought a device to the market that can only be used after hours and hours spent on doing what the developers were supposed to do. People like Dutty, who's ROM I am using right now, deserve not only respect for what they are doing, they also deserve to get PAID for it - not by donations, but with cold hard cash from HTC.
I can buy an electric two-speed hammer drill here at the hardware store for the equivalent of 10 US Dollars, it comes with printed instructions, a small bag with tools and replacement brushes, and a plastic carrying box. It is covered by a two year warranty.
On the other hand, I can buy a $500 piece of crap called the Touch Diamond, which is almost unuseable in the state I got it out of the box because of being FAR too slow to be used in an everyday manner. I can then spend HOURS AND DAYS on re-flashing, updating and customizing it with the results of work done by people like Dutty and all the others here who ALSO have spent their time and energy on the same goal, and I end up with a device that only crashed once a day and still is SLOW. Neither the manufacturer of the hardware nor Microsoft who have done the software GIVES A SH**.
I am currently writing a book on this and many other topics, on things that are to be considered somewhere between ripoff and burglary, and that have become widely accepted just because of the lack of alternatives.
Look at the dreaded Iphone, for example. A device that has NOTHING outstanding to offer, a mediocre PDA combined with a mediocre MP3 player, a mediocre 2MP camera, and a mediocre cell phone - all it has is USABILITY.
A technical piece of equipment, be it a cell phone or a hammer drill, has two basic reasons to justify its existence: functionality and usability. A hammer drill has to drill holes, but must also enable the user to handle it appropriately.
The Diamond lacks both of these. It is still full of bugs and flaws, as we all know, and it is hardly usable without the f***ing stylus. The Iphone has both, it is blazing fast AND it is a charm to handle, but it has no ground-breaking features AND it comes with the restrictive policies of Apple Computer that we all know.
Before anybody gets excited, the Iphone is NOT an alternative to the Diamond. My old Nokia 7373 is because it just WORKS.
I have to state an example here, and that's why the Diamond has to die. I will not give it to anyone, even though I would love to support the community, but I think I give a greater gift to society if only ONE person reads this and ends up thinking - wow, what a scam by HTC and M$.
Please participate in the poll ;-)
Why don't you just send it for repair?
What REPAIR?? What should I write as fault description: "SLOW, LAGGISH, FULL OF BUGS"?
Try to send Windows Vista in for repair, maybe you will get back the first error-free operating system in the known universe, for free...
That's the way it SHOULD be, but sadly, the way it IS is different.
I know at least 3 users who don't know this site and are using their stock diamond. They don't have the bottom-edge expectations as you seem to have.
I have them and yes, i find them here. This is another stupid, boring thread about something YOU COULD HAVE KNOWN from the start.
These are silly devices which cannot replace a PC, just phone and fun. I have seriously NO ISSUES AT ALL so please don't start spamming this **** again. I think that is stupid, we had enough of those people right at the beginning.
You buy it, YOU pay 500 dollar, YOU go into the marketing.
HTC makes money of it, makes a living of people working there. That's how market works. Stop complaining after you buy something. Then just don't buy it. You always have options to try out first.
Like the idea...
But you forgot to put in the option of putting it in acid and let it slowly dissolve into notingness...
That would get my vote!

3 months ago you were saying something completely different:
"I love the phone, really the first usable device without keyboard that relies on dialling via virtual keyboard. Still have the Samsung Armani thing here waiting to go on Ebay..."
It is really the peer pressure is not it? And the destruction show is mainly for them? Hardly anybody of the xda-developers members would make a good audience.
I felt disappointed with the Diamond when I got it in June this year and yes, the feeling of rage came to me especially when the GPS was unable to get a fix.
Since then I learnt how to tweak the phone and today I can say that if it was misplaced I would get the same phone again.
Perhaps your phone really developed some hardware problem that demonstrates itself in lockups and sluggishness. I had my phone last week sitting next to iphone and all comparable applications such as the google maps were running at the same speed.
And I do not need to restart it unless I do a lot of browsing with Opera, which is still in beta and the latest version 29/10 seems to have fixed even that.
Spamming, Riel, is what you do. Nobody cares about how many people you know that are willing to live with an overpriced device that doesn't stand up to what it promises. There are millions of organisms that eat feces and are happy with it, did you know that?
I could NOT have known from the start about any of the negative experiences I had to make while trying to use the Touch Diamond. When you buy a machine, like a coffee maker, you expect that it will make coffee. That is the implication of the fact that the coffee maker exists and is being sold as one.
I have bought a very expensive cell phone, implicating that I can make and receive phone calls and send SMS, and it does not even accomplish these basic tasks without showing bugs and errors. Another implicit expectation is that a device sold in 2008 would be at least as fast and responsive as my 2001 Ericsson T39m, at least as far as telephony and SMS are concerned.
I wouldn't complain if the Diamond needed 1-2 seconds to start a complex application like Google Maps, but it needs 1-2 seconds to switch from my email inbox to an already running Opera, and 3 seconds to take a picture after pressing the shutter button, and yes, it crashes during and after phone calls quite frequently.
Yes, I used other WM phones like the Samsung Omnia or even the Xperia (had the chance to play with it for half a day) and the ALL had these problems. Unfortunately I had already bought the Diamond...
I am not whining or complaining about the loss of money. If I was, I would sell the Diamond on Ebay or somewhere else instead of destroying it.
Riel, I have many devices here that simply do not function properly, with manufacturers not caring about it and saying that I have to live with it, including even a CAR.
What you wrote is just an example for how many people today have stopped thinking about what they can expect for their money. I would love to sell you a hammer drill that takes 30 minutes for drilling a hole, quits unexpectedly from time to time for no obvious reason, and weighs 20 pounds. People like YOU would be quite happy with it as long as it looks fancy, has a blue display on top of it and makes sounds like a device from Star Trek.

Yes, that's what I wrote, and it is still true. The Diamond is the first device I had in my hands that has no numeric keyboard AND allows dialling with one finger without major problems. True.
That was BEFORE I started using it beyond the capabilities of an ordinary cell phone, and BEFORE it started hanging or crashing in the middle of a call.
I wrote that I was impressed by the way I could dial numbers with the Diamond compared to the Armani, and that is still true as well.
No honey, it is not peer pressure. I don't mind running around with a pink Nokia everybody makes fun of, I did this for half a year, everybody was laughing, I didn't care. The fact is that I missed calls from people because of the phone not ringing and had to explain to them that my $500 high-tech phone is unable to play a ringtone when someone calls me. If somebody finds that funny, they are not making fun of me, but of HTC and Microsoft who sell crap like that for money. I can only make fun of myself because I was stupid enough to buy it, and this experience will keep me from buying any Windows Mobile device before I had the chance to play with WM7 for at least a week.
And come on, some people really need to lighten up a little. This is supposed to be a fun thread, it is about creating a funny video, if you don't want to read it press ALT-F4 and do something else.

Very good idea, but I don't think there is any acid that will dissolve the plastic housing. What we would get would be a device where some internal parts would be eaten up by acid, but I don't think very much would be visible on the outside.
Apart from that, it is hard to get concentrated sulfuric acid due to the danger it imposes.

Spamming, Riel, is what you do. Nobody cares about how many people you know that are willing to live with an overpriced device that doesn't stand up to what it promises. There are millions of organisms that eat feces and are happy with it, did you know that?

So why are you putting US up with your expectations? It's obvouis that the phone is good enough for the masses.

It does more then I want to. Don't know what your problem is, but I call, mail, sms, synchronise, navigate, play games etc. No it does not make coffee. And, yes, you had the option of trying it for a while.

Just edit the registry. When you are not pations, you can set those delays to zero. The average user has no problems with it.

Simple.
I think the perfect phone would cost 10.000 dollars, if you know what I mean.

Well, Riel, I did not have the option of trying it for a while as you wrote... At first, it looks - and feels - great. You play around with all the features, discover the G-sensor, try a little GPS with Google Maps - great. It's like getting a new car with new features that the old one didn't have - electric windows, electric seats, more power, everything smells new - great.
When after a couple of weeks you notice a rattle behind the glove box you start noticing things that you didn't see - or didn't want to see - when it was new.
I don't see me here putting the blame on anyone on this board. I put the blame on the manufacturer who didn't do his job, be it for the hardware or the software part. Why should I edit the registry in my unpaid time to fix a camera delay that I am not responsible for?
You buy a new car, you notice that the air conditioner doesn't work. Would you start tweaking this yourself? Just edit the registry, put in another orifice, flush the system, and maybe that helps?
You are right, the perfect phone would cost a lot of money. Maybe $10000 as you write. Maybe a little less. If it would exist, I would happily spend like $2500 on it. But I don't think it would have to be so expensive - the Iphone is a good start, but with all of its implicit (no flash, no cut-and-paste, too big, poor resolution...) and synthetic (restrictive Apple policies) limitations it's no alternative.
I did not intend to create a discussion like this, I wanted to let all of you participate in the execution of my phone, that's what the poll is for. I am SURE that very many people from this board will watch the video once it's there. I am not torturing lab mice here, it's just a phone so no need to get excited.
If you really want to destroy such a nice device id say go with boiling water and then shoot the hell out of it :>
I love my diamond with duttys ROM, I was disappointed for a while after i bought it how slow it is (1st ones that came out). but since I had tweaked my old wizard here this didnt feel so hard to do the same for this.
my first Diamond got stolen in Bulgaria and I had insurance choice to take money or new phone, I gone for new Diamond. it had new rom and was pretty fast without any tweaks

Definitively a hardware issue. I had a couple of phones like that and they were both fixed in warranty by the manufacturer's service centre.
The problem is that it is hard to distinguish between software issues and hardware problems on a device like Diamond unless you had a working phone in your hand.
Switching between applications is instant, just tried now from inbox to opera running under 1 sec.
Oh and with the Camera lag- it is there on purpose, it is meant to stabilize the picture after pressing the shutter. I have the shutter delay off and it takes the photo within 1/2 sec.
you can double press the camera button to take a instant picture. It has a Auto Focus, which is why it takes a couple of seconds. Length of time does depend on light conditions. more light = quicker to take picture

"Jumping in Head First" or "I'm Thinking About Buying a Droid"

I've been stuck in the limbo that is WM for what feels like way too long. I was comfortable with it; I knew it. But recently I started a love affair with Android on my TP2 thanks to HaRET and my unending curiosity. So I put an listing up on craigslist asking if anyone had an Android device they wanted to sell at a reasonable price. Within minutes, I had an e-mail from someone almost a hundred miles away saying he had a Droid he would sell for $200.. Seems like a good deal as most of the Droids on e-bay are still >$300. Unfortunately, he wants to do this deal the day after tomorrow, and has committed to driving most of the way to my city to do it.
So I come to this wonderful community that I have lurked in for quite a while in the hopes that you can give me the heads up. What do I need to know, and what do I need to look for?
Naturally, the first thing I am going to do is call the big V and confirm that the ESN is clean. But what about the phone itself? Is there anything I need to look out for? Any known issues? I read something about the back of the screen getting scratched from the sliding mechanism in another thread. Is that just the plastic that gets scratched up, or can the LCD itself get damaged?
I have also read a lot about this "locked bootloader." I think I understand this as not being able to install custom roms, but still allowing you to root. I was under the impression that rooting your device basically took care of that, so now I understand that I was wrong, and will further research what rooting is on my own. But I also see that some people have custom roms available here on XDA and that others are running Froyo on their Droids. Its all very confusing, and under normal circumstances, I would take a few days to read, research, and teach myself. But at the moment, I feel a little under the gun, as this deal won't last forever.
Anything you guys or gals can tell me would probably be more helpful than you think. I feel like I'm trying to make the switch from XP to Ubuntu.. (heh) Any and all posts will be read. Thanks.
The Droid doesn't have a locked bootloader and can be rooted easily. I bought one just like you're thinking of, I don't even have VZW service.
I put Froyo on it and I like it even though I haven't rooted yet.

The back of the screen has a little layer of plastic to keep from scratching some of the plastic. It tears pretty easily, but it doesnt matter as it will not actually damage the LCDs/LEDs, just scratch the plastic back up a little bit.
The Droid does not have a Locked BootLoader, only the Milestone does. Some people do know how to get around this though.
Rooting a Droid is actually quite simple. All you need (if you are a n00b, like me and you) is to download the DroidRootKit from the web which does the most complicated work for you, while allowing you to do some of the simpler stuff.
When you Root, you are brought back to Android 2.0.1 and you cannot download apps, so you might want to download ROM Manager (Premium or Regular) and back it up for downloading Eclair and Froyo ROMs later.
If you do not want to do that, then you should download a ROM (ie, UltimateDroid) place it on your SD card after Rooting, and install that through SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery.
People who are running Froyo are either rooted and downloaded a custom ROM, or forced the update through the download at the Verizon site.
The first thing you do when you meet that guy is ask if it is Rooted or ever has been.
Then you ask him if it has ever had water damage or any problems with the LCD screen.
If he says yes to the first question, good.
If he says yes to the second or third question (water damages and/or LCD problems) then DO NOT BUY IT.

Warning not to buy Flytouch 3 or clones.

For god's sake, whatever you do, don't buy:
Flytouch 3 superpad 2 (or any of its clones).
The support forum is filled with problems with the clones, too many to list.
The Ibex Flytouch 3 originals have very poor batteries, supposed to be 8000 mAh (2 x 4000), and are more like 2 x 1800. Most people are having troubles getting them to accept a charge at all.
Their internal GPS is locked to China, SOME people have managed to unlock them by spending a couple of hours deleting caches, rebooting, trying to re-fix the satellites, repeat until working or give up. MOST people still have not managed to unlock the GPS from China.
Market ONLY shows the free apps (something to do with fake sim numbers being too fake and illegitimate). When you are sent to market from an email, website, or even the tablets OWN auto update service, it won't show the app you are looking for.
They MAY appear to be cheap value-for-money Android tablet alternatives; trust me, they ARE NOT. Save up more money and get a proper named brand tablet.
Update:
My Flytouch 3 is no more, at about 4 days old the charging battery exploded, melting the FT3 and scorching the computer desk.
I urge anyone thinking of buying one of the Ibex Flytouch 3's, or its clones (Superpad 2 or 3) - DON'T!

Oh it's you Fluffbutt, I saw your whole song and dance on apad.tv the other day, not surprized they banned you. First you mess around with your battery config, then god only knows what else you did and then you blow up your tablet. Then claim it blew up on your desk.
Baring in mind no evidence what so ever anything really happened. Then you claimed that you burried your tablet under a load of used kitty litter, so couldn't show anyone the pictures to prove it, not surprized no one believes you. Shame on you.

i own this and for what i use it for its actually not bad updates are often and like all android devices its getting better with each one!
mind you my phone is faster ha
I got banned from there because they didn't want anyone warned of the faulty batteries, they're the most fanatic people over their FT3's.
So you assume I did a whole lot of things and it's my fault it exploded. You can assume anything.
"mess around with your battery config," - ChinaGrabber tell you to go to that forum for help, and do what's posted there. Now I'M to blame for doing just that?
It got buried under kitty litter because the fumes from burnt lithium batteries are toxic.
Shame on me?? you make assumptions!

*Mod Edit* let's keep it clean and keep the name calling to a minimum.
Alright, everybody chill out. No name callings.

As for the rest of this thread:

What makes you think I feel any need to prove this to anyone here?
It happened. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant to it happening and irrelevant to me..
my 32gb iBex Flytouch3 works perfectly. Would recommend iBex Flytouch3 (real FT3) to my friends.
I bought flytouch3 from taobao.com. It cost almost 250 USD.
It may be the most expensive one in taobao, but it works good.
It can standby at least 6 hrs, and the GPS works in Taiwan.
Market can show all apps including the charged apps.
I just bought one yesterday from chinagrabber, shame on me? From what I've gathered the information this is the best and most supported chinese tablet there is..
Yes another classic example of somebody not doing their homework before buying something and then blindly attacking it with a soldering iron and hacksaw.
I'm more than satisfied with mine, it's not the fastest piece of kit, but for €150 it's certainly worth the money if you have a good working knowledge of Android and now how to fix a few quirks.
If you read around the forums, there is support for all of them. I have yet to have found an issue that couldn't be remidied in one way shape or form. I bought mine for $150 US shipped. I'm no knocking Ibex. Just merely stating that their pad isn't the only option. Open minded-ness is what I'm getting at. I've heard a lot of bad things about ChinaGrabber's return policy's etc., and that left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted an inexpensive pad with some support on the US side (I.e warranty issues). I know I could have purchased something else, but this was what I wanted.
Sent from a rooted SuperPAD clone with Android 2.2
I've now been playing with my FT3 couple of days and I'm very happy with it, with Tim5a rom everything works, Market (it shows paid apps if I buy them from my Android cellphone). GPS works well out of the box, it's fast, Youtube, Flash all working. Battery life is very good, I don't keep it on standby as it does eat the battery even without wifi off. If you've ever used a Android phone this feels like home and the performance is the same. Resistive screen just gets a little bit more to get used to compared to capacitive but it's really responsive. Videos play very nicely, only tried 720p but all worked without a single lag.
Hey this thread scared me at start but then it looks like it ended up very good.
cuz i'm waiting for mine to arrive and i wonder is there any complete guide how to speed it up and ect..?
Thanks in advance

Don't.
Market ONLY shows the free apps not to mention all the other problems (something to do with fake sim numbers being too fake and illegitimate). For YOUR OWN sake don't buy this piece. Really if you want an ANDROID tablet then save your money and buy a legitimate Android Tablet from a well known manufacturer. It's the WORST money I've ever spent in my life. PLEASE don't waste your time. And if you do and are satisfied with a cheap poor generic excuse for an android spending hours upon end of your life downloading and installing firmware, then more power to you, have fun. I just wish I would have saved my money than to have given it to scam artists or try to get help from those who need to help sale more CRAPWARE by saying its all volunteer. Really really real. (Now watch how I get called names and treated like dirt for posting this on a thread that is titled: Warning not to buy Flytouch 3 or clones.) It's crazy how easy it is to get caught up by weirdos at crappad tv who act like they are helping the world or something not following any of there own rules. Please DON'T be fooled by the posts that follow this saying how good it is. Believe me, it is not. Save a little more money even if its just 100 or 200 more. Get a LEGITIMATE ANDROID TABLET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
