Use Odin to go back to previous firmware or just go back to lollipop. Download the right firmware for your device, download Odin 3.10.7 or the latest.....put your phone in download mode then open Odin go to AP in Odin select the firmware u download... select the the file and click start. ( Before all this make sure u wiped your phone first after backing up all your important data's) for more step by step....go follow @OvrDriVE for straight up instructions

i'm so confused.
Anyways I have heard of some people being able to go back down, downgrading from EPG2 so -- quit the double posting, and just try some stuff out.
DOK2 Bootloader: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087008410
DOK2 Modem: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087008409
Use Odin 3.0.9 (What this member specifically used and I use it personally)
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23321874045862094
Boot your device into download mode
Flash these two files
Tell us if it succeeds or if it gives you an error, and if so what was the error?
Also you may want to flash a 5.1.1 ROM with that 5.1.1 Bootloader and modem.
If this doesn't work report back to us and maybe some more exotic stuff can work.

Hey justsimple1
Dost rush through things if you are using odin for the first time.
Gather as much info as you can by reading through forum and clear all the doubts
Download firmware and 512.pit file from samfirmware.com and extract
Steps (Which I follow)
start Odin (if on vista/7 right click and start as administrator)
Tick Re-Partition
select 512.pit file
Put phone in download mode (VLm Down + home + power)
Plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start"
after some time Odin will display "Reset"
Wait until Odin indicates "Pass".
Plug out your phone, remove the battery, put it back in and put phone to download mode again.
Click "Reset" button in Odin and untick "Re-Partition" box.
DO NOT select PIT file again.
if you have ony one .tar file then click PDA and select file
if three files them
Click "PDA" and select CODE file.
Click "MODEM" and select MODEM file.
Click "CSC" and select CSC file.
Plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start" button and wait until phone reboots with the new software version.
This method was originally posted by Richthofen (all credits to him), I have used it sucessfully over several flashes.

I just tried to flash to DarkCore_2.9.3_JVQ.tar using the Darky Rom and now these blue eyes keep coming up blinking? What do??
I tried factory reset and now the Samsung Galaxy S original startup keeps coming up again and again.... i can still go into recovery mode any help pleaseeeeee
Ok your only chance is to flash stock through odin! Go to this website and download your firmware http://www.sammobile.com/threads/17-Samsung-I9000-Galaxy-S-Firmwares.. Your then going to extract it to your desktop( I find it easier using desktop). Next download odin http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MADK0XTB, then follow this guide http://www.androidgalaxy.net/how-to-flash-a-galaxy-s-phone-back-to-stock/
Once you have that all downloaded open odin, add your PIT file tick re-partition, add your PDA,PHONE and CSC and THEN put your phone in DL mode and connect it... Don't be afraid of the thanks button

Cannot upgrade to 4.0.4

Hi all,
I have been browsing this site since last November, when i bought my Note.
I has a very basic understanding of phone software.
I am trying to upgrade to 4.0.4 but so far without success. OTA nor Kies works for me. OTA just says failed, try Kies. Kies says failed and goes into emergency recovery and fails that too. The phone still works fine.
I would like some simple instructions on how to get 4.0.4 on a phone which has the eMMC bug on it. I dont want to root, factory wipe or anything; just to go from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.
I have read the guides but they are way too complicated for me. Normally i get my head round things but i cant on this one.
Failing this, can i just take my phone to any Vodafone shop and get them to do it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Get odin and download from sammobile any gingerbread rom also any 4.0.4 rom...
While downloading backup your photos/ document /music/videos etc in your pc
Make sure kies is not running and unzip the Gingerbread rom you just downloaded...
Open odin press PDA and put there the file you just unzipped..
Do not touch the default check boxes options
PRE ODIN STEP(In your phone wich should not be connected to the pc (must have over 50% battery) press volume down+home+power until it reboots to odin mode (accept the warning with volume up))
ODIN STEP(Now connect it to the pc and you should see a yellow rectangle in Odin indicating that the phone its okay to go... Press start and wait until it finishes..) when the process finish close odin
FINAL STEP NOT FOR 4.0.4(Once finished unplug the phone from the pc and press volume up+home +power to get to recovery and wipe data then reboot..)
Unzip the 4.0.4 rom go to odin press PDA and select the file you just unzipped and repeat PRE ODIN STEP AND ODIN STEP... AND FOR TE LOVE OF GOD... DO NOT DO THE FINAL STEP ONCE YOU FINISH THE ODIN STEP WHEN FLASHING THE 4.0.4 ROM (if you perform the final step when fishined the Odin step you could brick your phone)
That's it and cheers
Do not go to Vodafone stores if you don't want to end up with a paperweight lol

Why need to go back to GB just to perform all 3 wipes, when he's alrd on ICS 4.0.3 and he doesn't need any wiping at all.
VR4Note, just use PC ODIN.
you may download the tools and the firmware directly from samfirmware.com
like ms edek says, is easiest. But backup efs before that, cause I see to many losing service or updatability because of efs corruption. See dr ketans toolbox thread in general section.
preconditions for update ota/kies
No root(ota it doesnt matter)
All codes intact (imei, pcode)
All components installed of same rom and version of rom that was distributed through Kies or ota.
Rom csc must match the installed rom. Most updates arent available because for phone csc there is no update. This is the csc obtainable throught dialing *#06# for imei then dial *#272*yourimeihere#. Note changing csc triggers factory reset, so do from save kernel should you like to change.

In stock recovery you can not do those wipes and when you perform a factory reset it does wipes cache...
Doing this will allow him to boot into gingerbread with a clean free of issues rom

You don't know what issues does he have.. He's not able to upgrade either by ota ir kies.. So it's better to wipe and start fresh.. He can not wipe in stock 4.0.3 nor 4.0.4...

Thank you msedek for laying it out in a way that is helpful.
Some one mentioned beacking up 'efs'. What does that mean?
Btw, my phone will brick if i do a factory wipe so i am limited in my choice here.
Will have to bite the bullet and try this ODIN method.

How to go back to stock firm from root phone S5 if pc Odin doesn't work

Ive got some problem after rooting Philiz and install Omage firmware 9.0/9.1. So i wanted te go back to the original STOCKfirmware. SM G9007 And that was not easy, because Odin on pc did not worked for me!
Because of the rooting it change some settings in the kernels etc it doensnt let me to go back.
After 1 day on the internet i found the sollution and this works!
1: you S5 must be rooted!
2: install Mobil Odin PRO you can find it in Google Play or els on internet
3: go to: www sammobile com firmwares
make a account and find your stockfirmware and download. ( it will take a little while)
4: unrar en put the file on your phone external sd card.
Go to your phone open mobile odin : let him get access let hem download, go to open file, select yout file ( stock firmware) and hit flash firmware.
and wait.
If you want to delete data afterwords you can go in, bootingmood:
button on phone : Volume Up then startbutten then home button. and you can see the option to whipe data. and restart.
go to your app SuperUS en unroot it! restart
With KIES you must install the phone software again, maybe first time isn't succesfully. So try again. it worked for me
Now your phone is back to basic :good::laugh::victory:and Kies will update firmware again. also over the AIR.
So there are more ways to do it... if PC ODIN does NOT work.

The attached version is Mobile ODIN Pro v4.2, which is definitely paid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=en). For more details see application main thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899. You could use Mobile ODIN Lite from there.

[GUIDE] odin guide

Who can benefit from this?
Anyone who softbricked with access to download mode
Anyone who wants to use the OTA function after root
Anyone who needs to send the phone in for repair
Anyone who wants to be on the most recent firmware and cannot use the OTA
Anyone who wants to downgrade *Unknown at this time downgrade at your own risk
Anyone who wants to return to stock from aosp or aokp
Linux and Mac users must follow the Odin method using the correct PIT file (will upload soon) and substitue Odin with Jodin3 found HERE and spam AdamOutler thanks button for making Jodin3 (AP in odin is PDA in jodin)
How to enter Download Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Hold Volume Down + Home
While holding both of them simultaneously press the Power button until you see the disclaimer on the screen
Then let go of all the buttons and press Volume Up
=====================================================================================
Download and extract Odin (v3.10.6)
Download extract and install [Unified Driver Installer] (looking for the proper driver, please tell me if you have the latest unified)
Download firmware from the centralized location HERE
Enter Download Mode
If you have Kies installed make sure it is closed (check the task bar) then plug in your phone and wait for drivers to install
Open Odin As administrator
You should see your phone under ID:COM (you should also see it has been added in message)
Make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time is checked [ ]
Check AP [ ]
Click on [AP] And select the .tar file you just extracted (Only use AP Never use the others)
Wait for it to verify the MD5 then click [Start]
From here on out its all automated Odin will Flash the firmware then restart (dont forget first boot takes time)
If you get stuck in a boot loop go into recovery and do a factory reset (probably should regardless)

Click [Advanced Wipe] (For full wipe stock restore only)
Select dalvik cache, system, Data and cache
Click the home Icon in the bottom left

Swipe to install [====>]
Install will now begin, pure stock: system, kernel, recovery, modem and rpm will be installed
After completion click [wipe cache/dalvik] (do not skip especially if you dirty flashed)
Swipe to wipe [====>]
Click [back]
Click [reboot system] (it might say no os but it is wrong you do have a os click restart anyway) [dirty flash will not have that problem]

Introduction (will be deleted some time in the next couple days)
Hello everybody, I will be getting this phone next month and look forward to expanding this thread to cover more than just firmware and odin. I have made a few guides and have been told how easy it is to understand and follow compared to others. With that in mind I figured I would just nip this in the butt right now before someone beats me to the punch.
Other than odin I will also for sure be making a back to pure untouched stock for twrp which will flash the following stock images: system, kernel, modem, recovery and if we never see a locked bootloader rpm. This will have to wait until I have the phone because I refuse to make work public unless I have tested it on myself first.
Other than this first part of the op, it should stay more or less the same for the next month. post #2 will have a sandbox for the future of the op then it will turn into a spot to post answers to commonly asked questions.

You recommend JOdin for Linux users. But isn't that just a front end for Heimdall, and Heimdall has not been working on Linux for a while?

I thought it got updated, I'll look into it.
Thank you for this. I rooted my phone before I installed the OTA because the TMobile rep told me the latest OTA was bricking phones. Obviously, this was not true and I couldn't update the phone. All is well now.
Would going through the process untrip the KNOX flag from rooting and such?

No! Once it's tripped, it's done. No resetting it.
I tried using JOdin last night but it couldn't ever get my PIT file and never restarted my phone. It would just say that it failed. Can I use someone else's PIT file for the same model or does it need to be specific to my phone? SM-G920T is my model, if so.
I tried odin on a friend's windows computer and it never recognized my phone when I plugged it in in download mode. so i'm not sure what is going on. :/
