I discovered to my chagrin during a class on Wednesday that if the Moto X thinks it heard the activation phrase, the Moto Voice software will beep, ding, and doop even though the phone itself is in silent mode - no notifications. This is a new issue, but now means I have to completely shut my phone off if I actually want it to be quiet.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior? It's running Android 6.0 and Moto Voice 8.1.15.1. It's pretty obnoxious given that it takes ~3-5 minutes for the phone to boot. This version of Moto Voice claims to have been updated back on January 19th, but I've never noticed this before -- maybe it's something else? Or maybe it's just usually in a situation that I don't notice?
Super curious if this is somehow just my phone, but that seems super unlikely.

So my dad just picked up a Moto X today on Verizon, I've had my DE edition on VZW for about 2 weeks now. Well, I was over at his house today showing him some stuff, and I noticed his phone announced calls and texts all the time, even when not driving, and asked him if he wants to answer. I of course turned off Moto Assist, but it still announced calls and asked if he wanted texts read back. (It would announce who texted and ask if he wanted to listen, or ignore. Not sure if mine does this, I had Assist off before today) I went through every single option on his phone. I'm guessing the Moto Assist is bugged into thinking he's always driving, but the little icon never shows up in his notifications, and I actually turned off Assist and it was still doing it. Cleared data too. I tried everything. Reboots, turned on and off GPS, etc.
The rub is, we both actually LIKE it on all the time. It's nice to just have the phone on the desk and hear who's texting and the message without having to touch the phone. It's nice to be able to answer the phone on the coffee table without grabbing the phone, or even moving.
Is there anyway to enable this functionality all the time? (Or disable it on my dad's phone for that matter) Has anyone else run into this 'issue'? (If my dad hadn't seen my phone, he would have never known it wasn't supposed to be like that all the time.) Any ideas?
I too would like to see this 'feature' as a option, and I hope it can be enabled [on purpose] in the future. (If Motorola doesn't have sense enough to make it an option, maybe a ROM developer can.)
I searched and found this:
We're aware of a rare condition when calls and text will be announced even when you can't see the "drive mode" notification on the status curtain. We're fixing this in the next upgrade. (The simplest way to get out of this situation -- and it's not that simple -- is to leave Assist's drive mode settings on, get in a vehicle, allow drive mode to kick in again. When you do that, Assist will get back to the correct state. After the issue is fixed, you should rarely encounter the issue again. Yeah, I know. Not something anyone is eager to do but we wanted to put it out there.)

FWIW I first thought your dad's phone might be stuck in "car mode" as thought it was in a car cradle, but that would have a steering wheel icon in the notification area. I actually tried car mode by using the "car mode on" app to force it on. It seemed to put my phone in car mode, but that alone did not cause the phone to announce calls, etc.
Thanks man! I actually found that post as well earlier today, it looks like it is indeed a bug with Moto Assist. Funny thing is, my dad has it left on and I called him this morning after he drove to work, and it's still working. IDK lol, but he likes it so whatever.
I would LOVE to be able to do this while playing video games, or working, or whatever though. Motorola better just make a toggle switch... it's not like it's hard.
Hi everyone
I have the phrase set to OK Google Now.
When the phone is locked, screen off or even on moto display, quite a lot of the time saying the launch phrase will do nothing. When I unlock the phone it works perfectly fine. Then when I lock it, it works for a while but then after a bit it stops working until I unlock it again.
Is this some kind of bug that any of you have experienced also?
it kinda happens for me too. Even when it does get it, some commands are almost unusable. it just redirects to google search. is your phone a US one?
Moto XT1097 for the win
No I bought mine from Moto Maker in the UK. Hopefully it should be fixed in the next update.

The Moto X unlike the regular Ok Google which is available on all phones, is not only listening for the words to activate but also processes it to make sure its a close match to the voice used during the initial training setup. Try rerunning the voice training and record your voice without any accent, try speak casually the way you normally do trying to wake up your moto x. This should help
Quick background, I took the official lollipop update on the 2014 moto x pure edition, performed a factory reset to make sure i would have any fc
question:
ever since the update, whenever i select a a ringtone, the volume starts off really low the first time, and then gets louder. anybody else having this issue?
update: looks like when the phone rings, the ringtone volume starts of low, and then ramps up. is this a setting that i can turn off? or is it a bug? or a feature?
i'm experiencing the same behavior, however, it was happening on my device with KK as well. been exploring for an increasing ringtone option but haven't found it. also trying to figure out why i'm not seeing heads-up notifications for new email, text msgs, etc.
Basically it is a "feature" I believe, Samsung S3 had the same thing. There maybe an app available to change this or if you are rooted there might be a way to change the setting via exposed (although I don't know if it has been updated yet for lollipop or possibly look at the build.prop file though if you don't know what your doing with that, I wouldn't touch it as you can foobar your phone messing around with it.... If it was me, I would post it in the dev thread and see if one of the dev's have the answer. Or check Google, in the short search I did, apparently Moto G 2013 had this "feature" also.....
^^^ahhhh.... the 'ole "undocumented feature" (that's not a bug)...
if the rest of you are experiencing it, then i guess its a feature.... i guess i wanted to see if i set something up incorrectly or it was indeed a feature... .
It does this on kk. Didn't you notice it then?

I don't recall this on kk. I'm sure that this was not happening in kk for me.
Definitely doesn't / didn't do it on kit Kat for me either. Does it now though..
Hey guys,
I have a weird issue with my Moto X 2014 (stock Lollipop, no root or anything), and I can't find anything helpful around the web.
I have a video of the issue - I can't post the link as I don't have enough messages, but go to vid.me and add this code to the URL: /tMXf
Basically every few days, I find the phone is on vibrate. The volume rocker is suddenly all the way down, even though it should be maxed out, and I can't physically turn it up as you can see in the video. Even in audio settings, the ringer options is greyed out.
Android's quiet hours setting is NOT active. I have Moto Assist set to kick in at night time, but this happens randomly during the day, plus I tried removing it but nothing changes. It's not something to do with calendar events silencing the phone either, as Moto Assist only has scenarios for driving and the aforementioned night time.
Anyone knows what could be happening here? Thanks, much appreciated.
That IS strange... Have you tried rebooting your phone?

Thanks for the reply, man... yes, of course I tried that, but it's definitely not a temporary glitch. It happens again and again, every few days. A reboot does fix the issue when it occurs (in fact, it's the only way to get sound back), but only until the next time.
I'm using Galaxy S6 Active in Korea
Of course, i unlocked, and updated to 5.1.1
(i used 5.0 just few days, i can't remember how long did it maintain)
Now my phone seems to treat the vibrate profile as silent.
text message vibrations is Okay(i'm using google messenger, not basic sms app, not google hangout)
But, Call notification,FB,Gmail....and so on, all of feature which has vibration noti feature do not work now.
Actually i already did device reset once. at that time, i could get vibration notification.
but few days later, back to present state.
i googled, and i got some people who were experienced like me.
but they said various opinions about this problem such as battery saving mode, 5.1.1 updating...etc.
plus no oned replied "i fix it!"
I constantly use the vibrate profile and this is very problematic not having the phone actually vibrate because I am missing notifications a lot now.
Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix this?
plz give me your comment
I read, I think on Android central, that this occurs when power saving mode is on after updating to 5.1.1. This didn't happen on the previous software.
