HI everyone,
Is there any definite information available regarding whether the Moto G2 would get the Android N? Thanks for sharing any information about this.
I pray for stock 6.0.1 and security update
support lenovo says that the last tests but when asked which country he could not say
lying, but I hope I'm wrong
forget about stock N..
only custom..
I'll wait a few more weeks as nothing appears I install custom 5.1.1 or RR 5.7.3 based on M.
but on all 6 rom touch issuse is there from what I read
Android N will not be coming to our beloved Moto G2. It will come by CM or other custom rom.
I very doubt it. Titan didn't even got stock 6.0.1 yet. Perhaps CM could bring it, who knows.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Really appreciate it!
Oh well, I am kinda used to the Moto G2 as my second phone. It was quite cheap and is still quite fast and problem-free. So, I was curious (and hopeful) about whether there was any chance of it getting the upcoming Android.
Thanks again! :good:
I am waiting for android N ...lets hope we get it soon
Well, if Lenovo fixed the touch issues, it would make things easier. Anyways, one of CM13's devs for Titan said that it would be hard because stuff changed the camera and without proper source code, it would be hard to make it work. One can only hope.
I just had a chat with Motorola Customer Support. They said that they do not have any information right now as to which all phones will get Android N and by when would they get it.
No stock naugat.
I'm a moto g 2014 owner and i got the official 6.0 patch on my device, though i was a part of a soak test but i'm pretty sure it was released right after the soak ended back in February. chances of Android N on moto g 2nd gen are slim but it could happen.
any chance of custom n rom

Why? The custom ROM's currently available are awesome and provide all that I need for now. If getting the latest version of Android becomes that important to me then I will upgrade my phone to one that supports it. But that's me.

Seems like you don't experience the touch issues which are plaguing the MM ROMs for this device then. And I agree, I don't see a hurry for Nougat for me right now, Marshmallow would be good enough. And I would prefer to see this phone die on MM with a fixed touch drivers (pls Lenovo), rather than going to NG with lots of things broken, according to the devs.

No I don't have any touch issues. But my post may have been prophetic. Yesterday, my mobile data stopped working for no apparent reason. All of the usual suspects are properly set and on still, so it is definitely a hardware issue. I have no data unless I am connected through a WIFI AP. Really sucks since I cannot access the WIFI at my job with personal devices. And the company laptop is so restricted I can't really get any personal business done on my break times.
Bottom line - I ordered a Moto G 4th gen yesterday evening. Hopefully it will serve me as well as did the 2nd gen. I really gave it a thorough run for the two years I had it. We'll see how it compares.
Touch issues happen only if you have glass protecting screen on some ROMs but if you have i recommend cm13 and if you need more personalization put xposed and thats all

I know my moto x android version works flawlesly out of the box with some xposed mods just to personalize it, but today I decided to check the development section to see if there are some cool and interesting things to flash.
To my surprise I haven't seen much action there, I would have expected some port of firefox os or at least ubuntu (like there was for the Samsung Galaxy SIII) why is that? I'm not a developer so unfortunately I lack the knowledge to do something like that or I would.
Are there really no moto x owners wanting to try some (probably broken ) alternative OSes?

If you lack the knowledge, learn lol.. Not all of the Moto x can get an unlocked bootloader so development is restricted or limited to a certain extent for some devices like the Verizon Moto X or the ATT version . But even though that's no excuse, most people prefer stock and decide not to go through the hassle of porting a different OS. Just my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
Lack of interest, most likely. Firefox OS is a little pointless on devices with the hardware spec to run Android without batting an eyelash. As for Ubuntu Touch, there are a lot of devices not seeing it just due to a lack of interest in the OS itself from a lot of people (sadly). Only the most popular devices are likely to see ports of it.
That being said, I'd love to see Ubuntu Touch on Moto X, it's one of a few reasons I originally considered getting a Nexus 5 when i decided to get my Moto X.
Any non stock based ROMs we have still have major issues after a year.....can you imagine the issues with anything out of the ordinary like Ubuntu, Miui and other very different systems.
The X is just not a phone for developers or flashaholics. Its best run stock, (or stock based roms) maybe with Xposed for extra features. No one wants to lose their moto features either, and you only will have those on stock or stock based ROMs.
Things may change after the X stops getting updates. You may see more development then.
I have always wanted to run Ubuntu touch. I am trying to get it to work on my Samsung note pro but the selinux enforcement is a road block.

There's definitely a strong incentive to stay stock on the X.....but it didn't cure me unfortunately. I gave it to my wife, got an N5, installed multirom and have 4 ROMs installed on it as we speak. Lol

So I'm choosing between Moto G first gen and second gen phone. I like the second gen more, but I now see that they are almost no roms at all for this phone to flash? So I wonder, is there some limiting factor, or will we get tons of roms after this phone has been out for a while? Beacuse I mean the first Moto G seems to have a big support on this matter but not this phone, not yet anyway?
I'm pretty sure it will, phone is pretty new, and when I say pretty it means even not a month has passed
I think you are right, it's quite new. Just wanted to know so that the bootloader or something isn't locked so it's impossible to flash things

I've seen a Paranoid Android port for the first Moto G that required dual SIM users to flash a GPE firmware before installation...
Since I am not seeing a single SIM model by now, do you guys think some kind of fix will be available to use the Paranoid Android port? Is it possible?
There is not a single thread on original development
I am really worried if there will be good development community, right now there is not a single thread for original development.

This. After 1-2 months have passed and Motorola releases kernel sources, we will be able to get Original Rom Development like CM and Paranoid. I'm looking forward to how things will turn out.

Hey any devs out there will skills ,resources and the time PLEAAASE PLEAAAASE make an AOSP build for the Moto X.... I know Motorola will be quick with their updates but i just cant wait!!! I am just refreshing the Development sections of the Forum every hour hoping for a ROM build....
I believe devs would have to make a whole new kernel since L was not released for the moto x yet. Not sure if someone will do that before it is officially released for us.
I just want it! Caaant wait! i really hope some dev is already working his ass off to bring us some Lollipop!

Without kernel and binaries = No deal. It was already tried with KitKat, I tried with the AOSP sources but without a Kernel developer dedicating it's precious time and the binaries/drivers, just give up on your dream.

Its definitely NOT impossible!!! When other devices like S3 mini,s3,Xperia Z can run without the binaries.... Why cant the Moto X? People have just given up on this phone!
I mean till now we were in the spotlight, but after Moto X 2014 we have been pushed back... We always have run the latest versions of Android till date n have never faced the need for porting n stuff... but i guess this will change when Motorola stops supporting us, then OSs would be ported withot Binaries!

They worked on other devices because they have common parts inside of them. Commom snapdragon chips, when the Moto X has the "powerful futureproof Moto X8 Mobile Computing System", it still a snapdragon, yeah, but heavily modified. As I said, until we see sources we won't get it. Why? The work to make a KitKat kernel (specially the Moto X one) work on Lollipop isn't worth the effort. Unless you pay someone for it...

As far as I understand the modification to the processor is not to the Main processor itself but its just the addition of further coprocessors... I doubt if Qualcomm would keep quiet if Motorola messed with their processor and called it their own! Aaand.. Even with the sources we are not allowed to use the coprocessors right? So they are pretty much useless! I STILL don't think its THAT HARD! yeah it might be hard... But others have done it... People here just don't try as much I suppose!

It's not worth porting over just so 50 people can have Lollipop on their Moto X 2013 when it's going to come within the next month anyway.'
Those other devices will probably either never get Lollipop or well get them much later.

Just FYI, it would be "1 of 3 of the MOST POPULAR new phones" running stock Lollipop+ that Google has tested.
I'm sure there is a huge list of less popular phones that aren't working, but Google has only done positive/negative testing on the most popular. Fragmentation is a problem for Google too.
Maybe that will make you feel slightly less bad.
Sorry I don't have an answer for your actual question.

yeah that's true but as far as Im aware if it has lollipop it should work regardless and if someone doesn't have lollipop I doubt they would have android auto. Its just annoying because every other variant of this phone works with android auto and it seems like something someone on XDA could fix before Verizon gives out an update... which would be months from now if that! Guess I just have to wait or buy a new phone which im too cheap to do!
Or flash cyanogen 12? (Not 12.1) the last 12 official build works fine.

This is why I'm not on Verizon, and why I don't buy phones with heavily OEM modified Android. You risk it not working with the latest and greatest that Google puts out.
I have always stuck with Nexus (or recently) Motorola devices. As much as I liked the G3 (and the G4 even more), I want to play with all things Android, so better to stay with vanilla Android as much as possible.

I always try and make my phones as vanilla android as possible. But I think Im just gonna buy a Nexus 6 and stick my sim into it for now and then sell my G3 on swappa. Ive never owned a Nexus phone before because I never had spare money but I have a new job (salary based finally!) So I think im gonna just treat myself, ive always wanted a Nexus phone as well!.
Happy Nexus Sixing!
Hey guys, I'm pretty sure no one has seen me in the G Flex section. I did work for the M8, G3 etc back in the day. I just picked up a G Flex the other day with T-Mobile excited to put Lollipop on it. Came home and searched the threads to see there isn't lollipop for it nor is there any AOSP ROMs for it. I understand the issues behind it but I just wanted to say these issues doesn't prevent ASOP running on our G Flex. There's still possibilities. I came from the ZTE Zmax, and we had 1 dev working on our phone and got CM12.1 up and running with full stability in a month. I read somewhere that LG confirmed that the G Flex will NOT get lollipop because of some issues that was causing it to be buggy. LG basically stalled development on the G Flex until the 18 months that Google gave as an requirement for Software updates was over. The 18 month period for the G Flex ended back in May. So LG basically used that as an excuse to not update our phone, which is very stupid and it sucks but we have developers in this community that are smarter than LG Devs. We don't need a kernel source to build a functional kernel, even though a source would help tremendously. The ZTE Zmax, ZTE Awe ($30 phone), LG Tribue ($40 Phone) are all running CM12.1 with no kernel source and locked Bootloaders. For sensor and Audio issues you could simply TRY and use libs from other devices that compare like the G2. That's what the dev for the ZTE Zmax did. I see development started for lollipop but ended months ago. I also see a couple people working on CM11 and others quietly working on their own CM12 build. I'm not here to criticize, because I know this kind of stuff isn't easy. I'm just simply giving advice on something that may or may not have been tried yet. It's been almost a year since lollipop launched and you would expect a Flagship device to have lollipop or at least an AOSP ROM by now. Android M is being launched in a few months. Let's get this project back up and running and don't stop until its finished! We have plenty of donators including me. If help is needed ask other experienced Devs, CM Devs, even Devs on the Android Forums. This phone has way too much potential to just forget about.
I'm already accepting that we may not get anything and gotten used to a tweaked stock rom. There's a reason cheaper phones have lollipop already, they're going to have larger user bases by default. There is really no reason to pick up a flex even under an upgrade deal when there are plenty of competing phones that already have thriving communities, and I wish I did more research before I got mine. So really it comes down to someone only picking it up to get something different and even hindered.
That said, if some crazy dev does decide to pick the phone I'll be pleasantly surprised but preaching like this forum has been for weeks now isn't going to do anything when we have no devs actively working or even looking at us. I'm really hoping I get proven wrong and I'm definitely ready to throw some money at a reputable dev but seriously now, we don't even have stable cm11 ports and people are hoping for lollipop.

That's the problem, that fact that Lollipop is almost a year old and we don't even have 4.4.4 KitKat. We're about 2 years behind. This is why I said, lets go around and recruit. There are some Devs that don't even need the device in hand to build. They build and use testers. It seems like when there are kernel related issues Devs give up because they have little to no kernel knowledge. There's ways around that. Like I said, the CM11 port may not be stable but its still silently being worked on, just not finished in the timeframe people expect. And I've seen a couple people quietly working on their own CM12 builds. CM12 is already booting, its just in the same condition as CM11, which no one figured out how to fix yet, which is Sound, Bluetooth etc. I believe this device will get Lollipop soon, but only if people are eager and motivated to get the job done.

I have my Huawei Mate 2 with lollipop. It goes for 2 days with heavy use when it had Android 4 so I'll have to see what it will do now. The reason I put it down was because the camera sucked but with the update it seems to work fine. I love the LG form factor with the power and volume buttons and even the gui is cool but I'll try the Mate 2 and see. Mate 2 has a brighter screen, but the lg has wifi calling so lots of pluses and minuses. My fried got the Mate 7. Awesome phone but he was used to the long batter of the Mate 2 so returned it.
You guys MIGHT wanna check out playfulgod's CM11 thread, all the new development from the past month has been going on there. We now have sound working!!!
The d959
Does anyone know if the latest cm11 build with sound and data for the d959 will work? Saw the multiple .zip files but none for 959 in the main thread(cm11)
Read! Reply over there BTW, more likely to get help. And he's gonna build for d959 when data works on lswhateveritscalled. Sound works on all.
I know we've all heard it before. I ditched this phone to basically get lollipop. But after a few weeks I realized what I'd been hearing since launch. I don't hold this screen right up in my face. I don't care about pixels. What I do care about? The awesome size and battery life. Mine never stutters. Forget lollipop. I'm fine with the flex the way she is. I would like to see more development. But if we get it we do and if we don't we don't. I still have an awesome and powerful phone and cm12.1 would run awesome.
