Battery percentage recheck - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a technique that allows me to swap out batteris with a fully charged one without restarting my phone. I plug in my charger gently lift the low battery up with without breaking connection. I slide the full battery under it and slap it in quickly. The only problem is my phone show's it at the low battery percentage. Is there a way to trigger a recheck of the battery power without restarting?

Curious. Why do you do what you do?

Battery failure or soft/hardware glitch?

My Kaiser never had great battery life, 12 hour max.
But nowdays its just ridicilous, device turns itself off during calls. This is normal due battery failures.
But the real question that I am asking: Is it normal that battery indicator is not accurate at all? Ill give a few examples.
1) I charge the battery overnight (7 hours). When I wake up, it says 100% battery, but I notice that orange LED is not lit (not charging). I restart the phone, still 100%. I shut it down, remove battery, plug it back in, start the phone and it says 80% battery? Has the phone stopped recharging when it hit 100% the first time?
2) I'm making a call. 70% Battery. Phone shuts down. I restart it. Battery 70%. I shut it down, remove battery, plug it back, start the phone and it says 0% battery.
3) Battery 10%. I charge it to 100%. Shut down, remove battery, plug it back in, restart phone. Battery 75%. Recharge it to 100%. Shut it down, remove battery, plug it back in, restart phone. Battery 85%. Recharge it to 100%, repeat this few times and I finally get to "real" battery charge of 95%. And the phone stays on the whole day.
Seems that my phone is a BIT too optimistic about the 100%
I'm just hoping this is all about the fact that the battery is dying. Ordered a new one few days ago.
Same problems with WM 6.0 and 6.1.

Disable charging of G1 through usb cable?

Hi, may i know is it possible to disable charging of the G1 through USB? If the random charging were to continue, my battery would be dead in no time. I keep connecting and disconnecting to transfer data to my SD Card. Thus is there any solution out there to disable it? Thanks
Being on and off charge is not harmful to Lithium-ion batterys. Harm is done when kept at full charge for extended periods and at low charge, especially when completely empty.

Hi thank you for your explanation about Li Lion Battery, i finally have a clearer understanding of Li Lion battery. I will always leave my battery to charge overnight, would it harm my battery in anyway?
our batteries cut off before the voltage drops to the "bad" limit... I think around 3200 is considered bad, and our phone shuts off around 3500. This is how your phone is able to boot up even after the battery apparently ran out. There was a good thread way back when where someone knowledgeable was testing an upgraded battery for our phones.
Just use it till it gets low, charge completely, use it and have fun. Leaving it on over night is not bad because I believe our phones auto cutoff charging once full - hopefully someone can confirm this.

[Q] Is My Battery Dead?

So i woke up this morning and i forgot to charge my HD2, i had just rooted it a few days ago running smoothly on Core Droid. but when i tried to charge it, it didnt . no light was showing. before i had this incident the battery would run out quickly. When i try to plug it in to the charger nothing happens, and a few times it would shwo the boot screen then suddently shut down and now that doesnt happen anymore. Do i have to get a new battery?
Running Android may mean that your phone might not shut down before the battery protection circuit activates, to prevent destruction of the cell.
Once this happens the standard charger may not be able to charge this battery, although I have read that removing the battery from the phone for a couple of hours and trying again might work - do some searching on xda.
If you have access to other micro-usb chargers then give them all a go, one might work - or you may have to replace the battery.
Also try removing the battery whist it plugged into the charger then leave it as advised above

Good idea. After this you have to charge the phone for 100% before turning it on again (just leave it overnight)
Then turn it on, let it drain completely until it dies.
This way you have re-calibrated the battery and you might get better battery life.
Apart from that, you can try the one-in-a-million power saving tips.

Battery gauge in CM7 shows 100% at 3,9V and other bugs.

Sometimes when I charge my Nook, it's somewhere on 70%, and then suddenly it's 100%. When I checked the charge in Spare parts, it says it's only 3,9V(which should be around 70%). I thought lipol batteries were fully charged at 4,2 V?
Anybody know what the problem is? I should add that my charger cable seems to be on the fritz as well. The case have cracked and it looks like the fourth unprotected wire(there are 3 rubber insulated wire and then a raw steel wire) has frayed so much that there is no connection there(some of the threads are touching).
And another bug, if you turn on the battery percentage meter in status bar tweaks, the airplane mode icon pops up, even do I'm not in airplane mode. Doesn't go away unless I actually put it on and off airplane mode or turn on off wifi. Is this common?

It's not a bug, your stuff is broken....
Would you mind explain how it works?
I thought the charger wouldn't have anything to do with how the gauge in the nook works?
Cause it shows 100 % even when I plug it into my computer with a regular usb cable. Shouldn't the Nook detect the right charge then?
Or are you saying that my Nook is broken?
Oh, and another question. Does anybody know why the Nook charges slower if you turn it off completely? It was like this even when my cable was fine. If I turned it off completely, it took for ages to charge.
Did you try resetting your battery stats? S far as know you can't charge this device in offmode.

You mean wipe them in recovery? Yes, I just did that, but not sure if I can notice any effect immediatley. Thought the device had to "learn" the charge for a couple of days.
I'm pretty sure it takes some charge when you charge it when it's off. But it goes slow. Wondered why that was, cause usually it's the other way around, things charges faster when they are off.
And seems like my only option is to charge it with a regular cable from off now.
I'm in Sweden so I can't easily get a replacement cable.
Anybody knows what the broken wire does(it's not completlely broke though, just frayed)?

[Q] turn off at night and plug in?

Reading up on battery life. Here is what I discovered. Its bad to have the phone running and charging at night, even though their is circuitry to stop it charging when it reaches a certain point. I do, however, need to charge my phone at night to maintain a full battery throughout the day. So why not turn the phone off at night and charge it. I tried it last night and the phone was cool to the touch when I took it off the charger(sometimes its warm when I unplug it). I don't know if that will preserve battery life, but I think this might be a reasonable compromise. Thoughts?
I've always just plugged in over night without powering down. My cell phone is my only phone. I never shut it off. If you are having problems with plugging in overnight then you should get your phone replaced. It's designed to be plugged in without a problem.
The problem with charging the phone when it is powered on, is if you have a faulty app or system process that uses too much cpu power, so the cpu gets hot, also the phone will be trying to use the battery while it is charging the battery, not a good thing, that`s heat upon heat.
I have see this happen a few times, went to pick up your phone and it was very hot.
I use batterybot to monitor my charge and battery temp levels and have a alarm set if the temp goes over 40c, also charge at 80% and discharge at 30% , I virtually never fully charge or discharge my battery as this can damage it and reduce it`s life by quite a bit.

Then that app would have caused an even bigger issue when it's actually in use, and anyone worrying about battery life who has not noticed what is eating his battery power during daytime really shouldn't be worrying at all
