2 Different scenarios
1. You will have a folder named oat and a file named SamsungCamera6.apk under /system/priv-app/SamsungCamera6 in that case backup the entire folder system/priv-app/samsungcamera6 to your sdcard , delete the apk and folder from /system/priv-app/SamsungCamera6, then copy the modified apk over to system/priv-app/Samsungcamera6/ renaming it to SamsungCamera6.apk
2. You will have a file named SamsungCamera6.apk under /system/priv-app/SamsungCamera6 in that case backup the apk to your sdcard , delete the apk from /system/priv-app/SamsungCamera6, then copy the modified apk over to system/priv-app/Samsungcamera6/ renaming it to SamsungCamera6.apk
Download at bottom of this post
(Name scheme is as stated)
D#-This is date swaped around
H#-This is the bitrate of Hyperlapse
S#-This stands for all slowmotion bitrate
After that set the permissions (id recommend checking the original apks permissions before u delete it)
Reboot, (see if the app even shows up), then try recording 4k, it's around 21 minute record time with stock internal storage, with the 256GB sdcard it should be much more

Just woke up. 3 minutes into the 10. Will report back in 7 minutes!
EDIT: I can confirm from testing it 2x that it does in fact still cut off at the 10minute mark. I'm going to wipe cache and try again in a bit

Go ahead and redownload the new link. It's now working.

It is still limited to 10 minutes for me. Even after deleting the folder, remaking it and placing the downloaded file in, wiping cache and rebooting

This one is doing that?
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_OscqsqMY0vcDRDSXlva3o1NU0
Doenload that link and see if it works. If it doesn't do the following:
1. Delete the samsungcamera folder under priv-app
2. Create a folder named SamsungCamera6 under system/app/
3. Copy that SamsungCamera6.apk i linked in this comment
4. Set permissions
5. Go into applications and clear data under camera
Now with a empty phone and no sdcard u should have around 20 min record time
Let me know if this works because it seems to be working for me (see photo below)

Still isnt working for me. Even after new folder, wip cache and camera data etc. When i get home from work ill try again

I had this problem the other day after a reboot but clearing dalvik cache (delete everything in the data/dalvik/ folder) brought it back. I think because i signed the apk incorrectly. This will be fixed soon. Only thing so far is to not reboot the phone.

That may be my problem then. Force of habit to make changes and wipe things and reboot. It still hasnt worked for me. Probably the culprit!

Non Market Apps Solved

This is a pretty easy process. I went in to Root Explorer - dbdata - databases - com.android.providers.settings, copied settings.db to my sd card, edited it on my pc with a db editor changed 0 to a 1 next to non market apps. Copied it back to the original directory, rebooted and installed a non market app.
Please use caution. If you want to make sure the db save properly open it on your sd card before you copy and replace the original. It should open up as a readable table. If it opens up in a txt editor its corrupt. This permanently enables non market apps. You can not toggle it on and off.
I will try and post pictures soon.

Does it mean th after this you are able to install any 3rd party application with no restrictions?
Thanks
You can actually do it through firefox too. There's a firefox addon called 'SQLite manager' that you can use to edit the file, if you don't want to download a separate program.
Root Explorer is the pay program on the market? Any free alternitives?
Are you just trying to install non-market apps on the Captivate? If so, then just download the usb driver for the Captivate and then Droid Explorer (may also need SDK installed; not sure). With Droid Explorer, you can easily load non-market apps within seconds. Good solution for a non tech guy like me.
Being brand spanking new to Android, still have question. I like very specific instructions.
Do you download files to whatever directory you want to make and put the files in? Then is there an option to select, and do install? My background is WinMO, so on that you can just use a file explorer and double click or tap, and it installs.

So if I installed "PDAnet" for tethering it will work after rooting?
Thanks for the answer
PDA Net will work without rooting. Just put your phone on airplane mode and enable wifi. Go to the market and download it. Once it is downloaded you can turn off airplane mode and you're good to go.

So... Thank you so much for this info. I downloaded your file and put it into the correct DIR and have non market apps installing with no problem. However I can not get Titanium backup to work correctly. =/ When I try to restore an app it says installing and I have to force close titanium to get it to stop. Probably about half the apps I try and do this for install the other backups do not. Is any one else having any issues like this or know how to fix it?

Where did you see the number to change? Mine just looks like a bunch of gibberish
When into this dir dbdata - databases - com.android.providers.settings and cant find any files. Using linda
I used this DB editor instead
http://sqlitestudio.one.pl/index.rvt
connect to the settings.db file, on the left side click Tables, and then click Secure. It will show a grid on the right with _id, name, value etc. Click the Data tab, in the search box type market. And there should be only one value that shows up as "install_nonmarket_apps". Set the value to one. Refersh it and then copy it back to your phone.

[BOOTANIMATION] Honeycomb Boot + [APP] Honeycomb Pandora Widget

Pulled this straight out of the motorola xoom system dump (that is now gone from xda it seems) and sized for our screens. Works great on my screen. Drop the bootanimation.zip into /system/media or /data/local and it should work on any 800x480 screen. Use the honeycomb-boot.zip to flash with CWM.

Updated: I've also added a themed Pandora designed to be a bit darker (will try and figure out the now playing screen to make it fully black) and fit in with a honeycomb theme if you have one. Be sure to uninstall the old one before attempting to install this one.
+1

I actually specifically chose not to do this even though the images are in "portrait" orientation because it more matches how it would look on the xoom (since you're more likely to hold that in portrait mode, I feel).
With yours it looks like it's falling from right to left, mine/xoom is top to bottom. Thanks for the alternative but all it does is make me want to turn my phone into portrait mode when booting
The image just seemed squished on my end, anyhoo choice is always good.
CWM zip works great, thanks!
I suddenly find myself rebooting my phone for no reason... o.0

His isn't an update.zip, it's the bootanimation.zip that you copy into /system/media.
Sent from my Captivate.
"Homer Simpson Doh!" lol
Hmm... After adding it in there and flashing it to the phone... I actually prefer the alternative with the image rotated.
It does appear to be going at an angle from left to right but I still think it's just as pimp as the original and it looks a bit more uniform and not so stretched...
Either way, me likey! Thanks brotha!
Could you advise a rookie? Do I need a custom ROM for this, or can I change it on the STOCK ROM?
I Am rooted and through Linda Manager can see System/Media and bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
advice?
Thanks
You'll want to use an application called ROM Manager. (tis the easiest way)
It can be downloaded from the Market. Search for it, download it...
Since you're device is rooted you will not have to do that part but ROM Manager requires root access so you're good to go there.
Next step is to open up the ROM Manager app.
Tap "FLASH CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY"...
Tap "Allow" when superuser prompts...
Next you will want to make sure you have placed the Honeycomb-Boot.zip on your device via USB Mass Media mode. Copy/Paste it right into the device drive.
Release/Eject the device from Windows.
Turn off USB Storage access on your device.
Disconnect the USB cable.
Now open up ROM Manager again.
Tap on "Reboot into Recovery"...
Once the device reboots, if you find yourself at a screen that is in BLUE text (Recovery), you must use the Volume Down key to navigate to "Reinstall Packages", click the power button to select. You may have to do this once or twice. But once it works your device will reboot into a screen with GREEN text (ClockWorkMod).
Once you are in CWM, use the Volume keys to navigate to "Install .zip from SD card"... You will have to kind of navigate around and find where you placed the Honeycomb-Boot.zip file.
Navigate past the crazy amount of No's and click Yes - Install...
Navigate with the volume buttons to "Go Back"...
Navigate to "Reboot" the device...
That should do it.

you will need a custom ROM (or at least kernel) that supports AOSP bootanimation.zip format. by default, the samsung kernels play the above bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg, but almost any available custom kernel will support the bootanimation.zip support.
All it needs is sound. Something to do with pulsating energy.
So I tried this and it didnt work. I get an error saying:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any suggestions?
That's what I get when I flash from CW sometimes, but it still takes for me. Did you try rebooting and seeing if it was actually there?

[APP] Themed Camera.apk - Dark and Sleek

Now included in my unity theme, available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12057423
Hey guys, just starting some to theme some system apps for an upcoming project of mine (unityMOD, basically trying to bring some unity, in this case dark blacks, to the OS to match the hardware etc) and I thought some people might like to see my Camera.apk theme.
I always found the weird grey and black speckled background weird, so I changed it to black and changed a few buttons, outlines etc. I think it looks quite nice personally, so I thought I'd just share it

OK, here's the update.zip's. I have tested the CM7Camera.zip (I use CM7 obviously) but haven't had time to test the other one, so if anyone could just let me know how it goes, that would be appreciated.
Place the required .zip file (CM7 or Stock/Axura) on your SD Card storage
Boot into CWM Recovery
Use volume buttons to select 'install zip from sdcard' and power to select
Use volume and power to select 'choose zip from sdcard'
Find the .zip file you placed earlier
Using volume and power, select 'Yes - Install xxx.zip'
Reboot, and you're done!

Notes
[CM7 Based ROMs] If you are having troubles actually seeing the changes after successfully applying Camera.apk, make sure you are using the System theme in Theme Chooser.
[General] If you are having issues, check and see if you are using the correct download version. Stock ROMs and Axura use CameraGoogle.apk and CM7 (possibly others?) use Camera.apk. I will try and make this irrelevant in my update.zip, but for now just take note.
I'm using Axura 1.1.2.0 and the camera app just FC's.
Probably because of the ROM.
I'll try tomorrow sometime when I load up CM7 or something.
Looks fantastic, though!
I love simple black on this phone. It is absolutely gorgeous.

If that doesn't work though don't worry, I have a copy of stock camera to restore if you need.
I can't see why not though, ill see if it works with root enabled ES in a minute.
Edit: ES doesn't seem to like performing operations from /system even with the root option, so just as a test, copy your current Camera.apk to somewhere safe, then delete the one in /system/app. If it lets you, then you should be right to just move my themed Camera.apk in its place.

No, it didn't work for me
I copied the stock camera app and moved it into my SD card. Then I deleted it and moved the themed camera app into it's place and rebooted. It wasn't appearing anywhere so I went back into it and tried to install it but it kept saying "application not installed" so idk what I can do now

use root explorer to install apk
1. get the XXX.apk to sdcard
2. open root explorer
3. find the XXX.apk you are wanting to install
4. long press the XXX.apk file and choose copy options (you will see the paste and cancel boxes at bottom of screen)
5. back out to system/app/XXX.apk and paste file
6. long press XXX.apk and change permissions.
These should be checked: (1)User/read, (2)Group/read, (3)Others/read and (4)User/Write
If you get this WARNING. You cannot paste here because the file is read-only. this is ok. Look to the top of screen and you will see line like this. 124.24 used, 379.70mb free r/o [Mount R/W]. Tap the [Mount R/W] colored box so it shows [Mount R/O]. Now try the the paste and the change permission process. When done reboot.

Which ones should be checked off?
To keep it simple. Check the permission of another app in the system/app files. The permissions are all the same.

That didn't work for me either unfortunately
I used root explorer daily when I was flashing nightly builds and this is the way I install boot animations and framework.apk etc. It may be missing one step in the install precess.
I edited my post earlier for in hope the permissions checks are clearer to the readers.
I don't flash gapps anymore when on cm rom. I install the themed market, I like this, and go from there. I am confident in the process.

I followed every step and the camera remains the same as before
@SubyWill
I use a camera apk that is totally blacked out. I just installed the op's camera apk. It installed. This one and the camera button, picture viewer and video images all have a greyed ring around them.
Can u please make it to where we can flash it?

[MOD][UPDATE 14 MAY] Camera & Mms.apk(ICS XXLPY)/Camera.apk/Mms.apk/Mms.apk sent time

[MOD][UPDATE 14 MAY] Camera & Mms.apk(ICS XXLPY)/Camera.apk/Mms.apk/Mms.apk sent time
Coming from the Galaxy s2 and having these mods on that I thought I would Modify the Mms.apk and Camera.apk for My Note and share
The mod to the Camera.apk: Camera can now be used when power drops below 15%, Autofocus sound is now silent.
The mod to the Mms.apk: No contact limit (its actually now set to 100 instead of 10), typing more than the equivalent of 4 text messages in one message will now not automatically convert to a mms (its actually now set to 100)
The extra Mms.apk (Mms_Smiley.apk) is the same as above but with different smilies, see pic below (don't forget to rename to Mms.apk when copying it over).

Mms2.apk (rename to Mms.apk when downloaded) is the same as above but with the sent time mod (it shows the time it was sent rather than the time it was received)
These should work on all firmwares (as long as they are deodexed and you have root)
To install, root is required, put on internal or external card, go to /system/app and backup camera.apk and mms.apk (in case something goes wrong) and then, simply copy over the two modified apk's then clear messaging and camera data from Menu-Settings-Applications-Manage Applications-All tab (thanks ajay3317 for the reminder), boot into recovery and delete cache and dalvik cache, reboot.
I don't have a massive amount of time to answer questions, so I hope everything goes ok
*Added sheep kka rom Camera.apk for those having force closes, confirmed working by chenax - thanks.
** Added mms.apk from ZCLP5 (ICS), firmware does not need to be deodexed. No contact limit (its actually now set to 100), typing more than the equivalent of 4 text messages in one message will now NOT automatically convert to a mms (its actually now set to 100). Please re-name to Mms.apk once downloaded. Same instructions as above to install.
*** Added mms.apk from ZCLP6 (ICS), one with modified smilies and the limits removed and one with just the limits removed. The firmware does not need to be deodexed. No contact limit (its actually now set to 100), typing more than the equivalent of 4 text messages in one message will now NOT automatically convert to a mms (its actually now set to 100). I have deodexed the Mms.apk, so the modded one will replace BOTH the Mms.apk AND the Mms.odex files. So please backup BOTH of those files prior to using the modded one. Please re-name to Mms.apk once downloaded. Same instructions as above to install.
**** Added mms.apk from XXLPY, LQ etc (ICS), one with modified smilies and the limits removed and one with just the limits removed. The firmware does not need to be deodexed (I think, have not tried).
***** Added Camera.apk from XXLPY, LQ etc (ICS), the autofocus sounds are now silent. To stop the shutter sounds go to /system/media/audio/ui/ and delete the relevant files in there (I think there are 6 of them). Make a backup as explained above and clear the camera data as stated above.
Waiting for the Autofocus sound silent mod for a long time. Really appeciated yr work. Thx !
Thank you, padlad!

Which rom are you using?
Not working for firmware kj6
Force Closed for Camera
Force close on kk5 too.
Try Clearing Data..
For all those above who are getting Force closes..
I am running ON KK3 ROM
It's a usual problem after replacing system apps through root explorer..
Many a times, clearing the data from applications and then restarting phone can solve the problem..
May be you guys can try and tell..
It would be good for you as well as the modder..

Try, Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage Applications select 'All' scroll down to messaging and also camera, select it and select 'clear data' then reboot.
Maybe they use stock and not a deodexed Rom.
... tapat*lked
Thanks for the camera. Works great on KKA deodexed.
I had a problem with this. I don't know what mistake I had made, but I suspect it is because I did not wipe the camera application data.
This is what occurred:
Using Root Explorer:
I backed up Camera.apk and Mms.apk to Camera.apk.bak and Mms.apk.bak
I then copied the *Camera.apk and Mms.apk to the /system/app directory (* - refers to it being the modded apk file)
I changed the permissions on these to match the permissions of the unmodded apps.
I rebooted the phone into recovery:
I wiped the cache and dalvik cache
I rebooted the phone as normal - took longer time to boot as it had to rebuild the caches.
It managed to boot into the OS as normal however Media Scanner ran three times, and on the third run the phone froze and the phone started heating up.
I tried rebooting twice - same problem occurred.
I tried wiping the caches again and boot into OS - same problem occurred
I tried wiping the caches, fixing permissions and booting into the OS - same problem occured
Then I rebooted into recovery and this time I used adb to delete the Modded APKs and rename the unmodded apks back to their original names and I wiped caches and rebooted the phone. (tried fixing permissions etc and all of the above)
Same problem occurred.
I suspect it may not even be to do with the APKs anymore... but this only started occurring when I attempted this mod. I know there are ways to recover from this situation (reinstall the firmware/restore from back etc) but I am curious as to why this happened.
I am running many MODs on my phone -
FM Kernel - overclocked to 1.6 and undervolted somewhat (maybe this is what is causing it? - though it was working fine before the mod)
Sheep ROM
Mow's Theme
V6 Supercharger
KickAssKernelizer
3GMod
etc...
Any suggestions or thoughts?
My next effort will be to backup the scripts in init.d and remove the originals and see if the phone boots up normally.
UPDATE: SOLVED! Apparently had nothing really to do with this mod; for some reason my internal sdcard couldn't be read properly by the media scanner and this caused the phone to lock up. Fortunately managed to recover everything through ADB.
The worst that can happen if you replace the camera and mms apk's is just force closing of the two apps when starting them, which shouldn't happen unless they have not been replaced correctly or your rom is not deodexed.

XT1072 Persist Partition

With the latest version of TWRP 3.0.0-1, a failed restore (persist partition) caused loss of WiFi. What is the best way to fix this?
Fixed by putting this file in the archive in Persist directory.
I have the same issue, but restoring the files from a previous backup of /persist does not work. Even if I remove all files and directories and just put the firmware files for wlan in there, it does not work. Wifi still hangs on 'Turning Wi-Fi on' and the displayed MAC address is 02:00:00:00:00:00.

Go into Root/Persist directory, it should exist. Put the WLAN file (not the archive) in this directory.

If you got the same error i got you can't fix it by putting that file into /Persist
a guide on how to properly restore that partiton is here
There are 3 folder missing and the WCNNS files are 2 NOT 1, i think the guy copied those info from nexus forums.
Inside /Persist you must have 4 folder ( + lost+found) data/properties/prov/sensors and the following 3 files WCNSS_qcom_wlan_nv.bin/WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin/.bt_nv.bin

Working fine here with just that one file in the image.
Can you upload your persist archive that you extracted from the TWRP backup?
I lost this with 3.0.0-1 too.

I have all those files and folders in place but wifi still does not work. I took the files from my CM12.1 backup. Furthermore, Google Play Services are crashing frequently (but I think this is unrelated).

I don't know if there's any personal infos inside there aside some drm keys (imei, mac, etc) i read somewhere, not sure, i will not upload my backup (sry) untill i'll take a look at it, you still have your twrp persist backup ? you should if you have tryed to restore it, just unpack the files using winrar
I honestly still think i'm missing something, like proper file/folders permissions, until @luca020400 can fix this for us i will keep a "properly restore /persist" task in my TODO list

I don't have the backup as I had deleted it due to the errors TWRP was giving. I wasn't aware of what the Persists partition was until I realized I couldn't get WiFi any longer. IMEI was displayed as normal the only issue I had was WiFi.
No worries, I don't have any issues right now, I just wanted to have them in case I have issues in the future.
