My phone is a couple of weeks old and the paint on one corner has already rubbed (or has been scratched) off leaving the shiny aluminum exposed. Has anyone else got this issue or have any bright ideas to restore the matt black color? I tried a Sharpie but it didn't stick.

Humm, this is worrying. I hope it's a fluke
Got a spot of aluminium as well in the top left corner.
Only 1mm in diameter, but still... not too good after about 10 days of use.
WoW... I hope these are just two isolated cases, or some bad serie...
Believe me, if this happens to mine, it will be the very last time I buy a HTC. You can write my words in stone.
HastaSSSS
Not good news!! I had this same problem with my HTC 3600P... it looked like crap after 6 months... crap black finish rubs off easy.. specially if in a humid country like jamaica.. really really bad news for the diamond! thanks guys.. will keep a close eye on it and try and get a case of it ASAP.
C
I have also got paint rubbing off both top corners, it's slowly getting worse. Not happy!!! Few weeks old. Any body know a good paint match? Think I could fix it..
Im sure that having your keys and coins in the same pocket with your phone it will get scratched.
Can't make out the corners of mine through the fingerprints even though every night I wipe my fingers on my jeans after my chips! What about proper Indian ink?
I had to something about it on mine...
Fine/Ultra Fine Black Sharpie Permanent Marker has done the job..
...does NOT sound good, I had this problem with my Trinity and it really looked a mess. I hope HTC read this post and maybe.... even say something about it? or would i be dreaming?
some pictures maybe?

Forget the Sharpie people it comes off in 2 days!!...
same has happened to mine, metal finish has worn off on top right corner, have tried permanent marker and also a little tin of humbrol satin black enamel paint which worked the best, but even that rubs off!!! gotta say im dissapointed with the finish of the phone, my touch dual still looks new after 6 months.
Hmm you made me pretty worry
I already ordered my diamond and I'm expecting it within 10 days ... I already ordered Overlay plus for the screen and front buttons and Invisible shield for the back and sides.. I was not planning to apply the invisible shield from day one but after what you guys wrote I think I will...

No paint rubbing off here after 6 weeks.
No paint rubbing off here either and it's thrown in a pocket with no case and has landed on the floor with no damage.

My wife put it in her purse with a bunch of keys, but luckily it is only the screen protector. I can't blame her for the paint however, that was all me.
Playing ball with my Diamond wasn't one of the functions on the phone that I was aware of. Does the G sensor help you hit better?
we need a rubber case!!!
Oh no... this happend to me to my old wizard, but the paint lasted for at least 6 months before scratching. I hope my $700 phone has a good paint Job.
Hey guys! So i completely understand how to completely disassemble this phone due to how easy it is (it only takes ten minutes!). But i was wondering do you guys think it would be worth being out of a phone for like a day (while paint drys, etc.) if i painted the whole thing and got rid of some scratches? Im seriously contemplating doing it but i just wanted your guys opinions and also any ideas on what colors i should use . Thanks!
that could be very bad for one no more warranty and two the paint could flake off and damage the hardware inside i would just skin it if u want to change the color that bad.
Thanks.
Thanks mate. My warranty is actually long gone and i will be getting a new phone shortly. The reason i assumed this would work because i saw a guy do it on the evo in the portal. It was actually a top post for the day. Id think about skinning it but for some reason the difficulty of the project is intriguing me. But i will def take what you said into consideration. Thanks
thats cool just please post pics if u do it im interested to see how that would turn out.
Okay
I'd be glad to post pics but it probobaly wont be untill this weekend because i use my phone too much during the week. I was thinking a white and metallic silver look. What do ya think?
i always liked the flat black look
The htc back housing will take dye better than paint. There was some pretty easy steps way back when. Check out ppcgeeks touch diamond forums, or google it.

Hey thanks man.
Issue
Do you guys any idea how i could paint the hardware buttons to hide all the scratches mine had from when i "let" my sister "play with it. Do you thing if i just buffered it all out with a fine sandpaper or something and then paint around them that would work. Because i figured if i was going to make the whole phoen beautiful then i may as well fix this falw too. If you do not think that part is possible then i guess ill just buy new housing for like 5 bucks. But just lmk. Thanks
I like the chips and scratches on my phone -- it reminds me of Boba Fet's helmet.

That is clever
Hello guys
to sum it up i have the Xperia Z in black. I have a sticker on it covering everything except the black lines on the sides of the phone on each side of the flaps. So the bits where it is black rubbery plastic. So i had the phone in my jacket like an idiot and normally i have a pocket i keep the phone in ususally. However yestarday i had forgotten the pocket and was carrying the phone in my jacket when i decided to take off my headset and by doing that forgot to zip up the jacket and the phone fell off top first onto concrete.
Phone works perfectly screen or any glass is not damaged at all the only damage were 2 small dents on both sides of the top of the phone. So the rubbery plastic top righ. One is near the music jack and the other one above the USB port.
So my question is since i screwed it up warranty is obviously bull****. My q is would there be any way to repair this. As in paint marker or anything that might cover it up? (except for a backplate protector or snap in ) hate all of those.
Obviously goes without saying all help would greaty be appreciated and used to reinstate my inner tranquility.
Best Regards

It is incredibly annoying to have these nicks and scrapes on it. Obviously it beats not having the phone or having broken glass, but everyone has their own problems i guess. Is there seriously nothing that can be done about this?.

I was afraid that the skeleton might have to be changed, but the skin is front and back the only visible parts left on the phone are the little black sides i got my bumps on and the front glass. I purchased mine from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayIS...9&ssPageName=ADME:L:PMR:NL:1123#ht_6096wt_907
They have many different models i just got this one. These guys are amazing in bringing out good things i had one of those on ipod 4 used it 8 months than sold the ipod never had problems with the skin.
xperia z
is there a factory screen protector on the back of xperia z, as there is on the front. I scratched the back of the Xperia z. And if there is no screen protector back, is there a possibility of polishing
I did the same thing. I was so in love with the screen I didn't think to check out how scratch resistive the rear panel was until I had let it get sl gouged to all hell
Mines missing both the USB and heaphone flaps, front and back are cracked, there is virtually nothing left of the plastic around the outside and the bottom face is missing the sticker that has the barcode and such on...
Makes me laugh when people worry about little marks
As the tittle implies I'm trying to figure out what "kind" of metal it has so I could try some ways to get rid of the scratches and basically look new again...it is possible, anyone know if it's aluminum? Metal. ..chrome plated?
"fighting as one hand one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares"
It's aluminum.
I had the idea to use a nail buffer on it. Being a girl, I have used them on my nails a lot and have had a lot of success buffing metal to a chrome-like shine with them too. I'm gonna try it tonight on the big scratch I have on my bezel. I'll report back with the results.

Oh ok...thanks for the advice let me know how it went! I was thinking about vegetable oil.
"fighting as one hand one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares"
Ok, so I did it and... it worked.
I can still see some evidence of the scratch but it looks MUCH better, I have to hunt for the scratches now and I think if I spent more time on it and used a brand new buffer, it would be unnoticeable.
what nail buffer did you use? And would you please tell us how you did it? Thank you
Smh
This is the one I used, but I'd recommend getting one with a grey buffing surface cause they're a bit smoother & they create a shinier surface IMO. You can get these at any drugstore in the beauty section. I wish I could have taken before & after pics, but unfortunately my phone is my only camera.
What I did was use the second smoothest grit(the purple part) to buff out the scratch first, then I used the pink part to shine it up. You can still see the little metallic lines on it from the buffing process.
I would honestly advise just using a case to cover up the scratches, but this does work to remove them. USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU DO THIS. It is not my fault if you mess up or do more damage! I would tape up the surrounding surfaces by where you'll be buffing just so you don't accidentally nick anything. Take your time & go slow, and keep in mind that its probably not going to look completely factory-perfect, it will just take out the scratches and make it shiny again.

This worked pretty well. I took an alternate route though, I decided to use the slightly coarser edge first and brush it, then buff and polish it with the other sides. If done slowly and properly, you can give the phone a brushed aluminum look which I like a bit better than the polished look. This way also, scratches don't stand out at all.

Wow... The HD2... That was my first girlfriend... Girlfriend that was dressed with WP7 & Android... That was the love of my life... After that the HD7... Then the HTC Sensation, Samsung Infuse, Note 1, 2, 3, 4... And now the Note Edge... (left a bunch of Nokia Lumia's plus a few Samsung's and HTC's in the way) Sorry... You mentioned the HD2 and I was suddenly dreaming... Off topic, sorry.

I loved my HD2 so much and used it for years. I still have it and occasionally use it as a backuo phone too. One of the best phones HTC has ever made, IMO, development for that little beast was off the charts.
Anyway, back on topic, lol.

Consider yourself lucky man, with the s**t digitisers we had on the nexus 4 any crack in the glass above the screen would result in an unusable touch panel. I understand that cracked glass is never a good thing but at least you can still use the device!
I don't want to sound like a d**k but the purpose of Gorilla Glass 3 is scratch protection, not drop protection. Moto just released a shatterproof phone for that if I'm not wrong.
Hard glass on unprotected edges is always gonna break.

Yea...
Well I can still use the device but I will replace all the front side:
Right now I have white front but the lab I send the phone has only black.
He will also replace the screen digitizers in case they got damaged.
I ordered a flip case from eBay, hoping that could save the screen (It sure could minimize the damage).

+1 on the flip case. Just make sure it's got a tpu shell around the phone, otherwise you won't want a drop while the case is open!

Well phone got fixed.
I don't like the black at all but that's what I have right now so I need to get used to it.
I hope I will be able to get along with the phone for one more year and then probably I'll replace it.
Right now he works really good.
It took the engineer to replace the broken screen with a new one about one hour and he always mumbled bad things about Motorola and how they build their phones.
He tried to put the back bamboo case to it's place and failed many times because the glue just won't work..
He told me to wait some time so the glue would get sticky to the phone itself.
Next time, I will buy a phone that have wider support in my country, make sure I have a flip case from the very beginning and make sure that you can unplug the battery from the phone.
That phone is awesome but has a quite long list of disadvantages...

Awesome that you could already have it serviced!
I see your point though, and I understand that in this thriving "free" market we can only choose the best compromise for our needs. I wouldn't buy a LG just for the removable battery and the repair support, but I can totally see why it looks like a viable choice for you right now.
As much as I like this phone, glue never looks like a good solution for pieces that are gonna be serviced sooner or later... As for the screen assembly, well, I guess every manufacturer now makes the digitiser and glass into one single part.
That being said, enjoy your moto and keep it for a while
