Here you have a proper review of the MM firmware update for the 8.4 inch model.
I personaly didnt like the update it hasnt got a much better performance and it hasnt got any design change like new samsung devices. It also hasnt got the theme store or microsd card as internal storage option. Its as laggy as the old LP and it doesnt have all languages (12 languages). Another thing to mention is that the s planner icon the gallery icon and the s browser icon are a bit blurred. It doesnt matter that much but its embarrassing anyway for such a big manufacturer like samsung. The biggest changes are the changed icons which now look like the ones on the note 5 on 5.1.1. Also the wallpapers has been repleaced with the s7 wallpapers as well as ALL transition animations. The last thing to mention is that the magazine UX is not working anymore, no matter if u activate it in the launcher settings or not.
Here is the video about the real life performance and all changes
Thank you for the review. At least we've been upgraded to 6.0.1 so the custom ROMs from the likes of yourselves will see an improvement

Yeah but there are so many people who dont even know about custom roms.
And the bad performance like in 5.0.2 could be fixed also.
But yes u are tight at least we got thag update where others likentab pro didnt even got one updatesince now
Limited number of languages is because this first release is the Korean region version, and not an XXU1 (worldwide) version
It's sad indeed that Samsung has disabled adoptable storage for SD card. Do any of the workarounds found on other devices work here?

That's because Samsung almost never update the Touchwiz UI for older devices.
The important part is that all Marshmallow features are there. (Well, except the adoptable storage, but there's a workaround using adb.)

That method has so far only worked on the S7. It fails on other devices like the S5 and Note 4 that got MM. A rooted device might have an alternative solution tho.

Annoying that they didn't implement all the icon changes - ie they rounded all the default installed apps but not the Folder icon. The Note 4 got the new folders when MM came out. ?

Jup also saw that. Also the app drawer icon is still the same as before. They havnt changed anything on the TWlauncher :/
Sounds like my experience with MM on other devices. Not a huge difference. The improvements were fairly incremental. I'll probably keep LP on my rooted Tab S for a long time, and then flash the MM ROM when the final version/update comes out.
Guys, I totally understand your concerns about the shallow TouchWiz UI, but the major advancement with MM is supposed to be doze, which works under the hood. That alone justifies migrating to MM, IMHO. ?

We always have the devs who makes sh*tty Samsung ROMs into masterpieces
Another important change is that this Rom should be compatible to a lot of newer Samsung apps as well as Rom mods from different devices. Stuff like Game Launcher or Good Lock for example should now work and maybe someone can port some other elements of newer devices like Grace UI. Good Lock alone is enough to change the notification UI BTW.
Anyway, what about the performance of the device? Has it improved with M?
Not really, performance is quite bad in my opinion.
Geekbench 4
822 - Single Core
1736 - Multi Core
Comparing with other geekbench 3 scores its around -40% multi core and -10% single core.

Good lock has some bugs on the tab s.
The notification height is too small and the width of the quick settings and keep area is too big also.. However i fixed both with a modified good lock apk but it wont recompile -.- when i get that fixed i will upload this tab s modified good lock app
For grace ui i would recommend to wait its only aviable on phones yet. Sure we can port them but they wont look good on a tablet. The best way is to optimize them after porting but i know it from sucukrom when i ported s6 systemui and launcher - optimizing was hard and boring like hell.

Geekbench 4 runs a completely different set of benchmarks than version 3. I just recently read a (I think) Anandtech writer rant about how not related Geekbench 3 scores are to the experience in practical usage compared to the (then still closed beta) Geekbench 4.
So you can't compare those scores at all.
I just run Geekbench 4 on my Tab S 8.4 with Lollipop (but using Iron Kernel - interactive governor - and f2fs data/cahce) and got this:
812 - Single Core
1849 - Multicore
Do this update upgraded the imprint sensor functions?
Now can I interact with other app or like before it is only to unlock the device?
This is the main feature I'm expecting from MM (plus Doze, obv)

Yes, in MM apps can use the fingerprint API. This works with Google Play Store and Dropbox, to mention a few. My experience is with AOSP only, but I don't see why stock ROMs should be different.

I am the only one not interested in upgrading to Lollipop? I'm a big fan of Xposed, especially App Settings, as I do not like the standard DPI.
With the introduction of ART runtime, Xposed does not work. It does not look that likely that it will work anytime soon. This is have a big impact on my ability to customize my N910H.
I'm also a big fan of app settings, but that won't affect me changing the dpi, everything can be modded manually and flashed just like older days and enjoy the lower dpi values

Thanks. I've admired your mods from my Note 2 days. As I haven't seen any DPI modded apps for the Note 4 I was getting concerned.
So you think that setting the system to, say, 420DPI, will not be a problem? Modded apps will appear for In Call UI, Lockscreen, Calc etc etc?

yes, it can be done. without xposed manual mods will be back in action
SO how does one change the dpi for apps without app settings?
I just need it for root explorer, gmail and chrome.
I imagine A5 will give us a bit more smooth trip with TW. Not even Samsung can mishandle A5 that much I hope I love xposed but I love a smooth and micro lag free ride even more.
my estimate is that when the big manufacturers (samsung/lg/motorola/etc) all finish updating their mid to top range smartphones to lollipop(lets say in samsung case for example: S4, note 3, S5, note 4) exposed will come with it as well. right now maybe 0.1% of all android devices have android 5.0, so I can see why the dev working on it taking his time as there is simply not high enough demand for it. (one of the reason i'm not upgrading to 5.0 too atm)

I am also very happy with Android 4.4.4, its got very little bugs, incredibly stable and efficient, all I want is further optimising of power usage and app optimisation, thats all I ask for, but hey, this is how tech works, got to moving, and the great thing in 5.0 is ART, apps should run faster, better audio, better memory management, etc etc...I am not in a rush, I am glad we will be getting 5.0.1 and not the buggy 5.0

Yep agree on that. Lollipop definately has some improvements over 4.4.4. Although 4.4.4 is really running perfectly.
I will be looking forward to 5.1 though, as 5.0.1 is not yet perfect...still has some bugs.
I thought I was the only one thinking like this because all I've been seeing is hype ? but reading through your comments got me thinking about actually upgrading to Lollipop... I love Xposed to the point I can't live without it but if 5.0.1 is THAT great... Idk anymore.
Also, does anyone know if there's an official forum or something here on xda for all this xposed situation?

I'm sure A5 will be great, but sure that that it will great enough to give up xposed, at least until there are alternatives for tweaking the UI. Xposed has its own forum on XDA. At present there doesn't seem much hope for getting it to work with A5.

Lollipop is awesome. I just put it on my mates sm-n910f, and we were looking at Google cardboard vr apps....
They were running at close to TWICE!! the frame rate that they were running at on KitKat touchwiz. Unbelievable.
The UI is noticeably much smoother too. Highly recommended. More than that, it's an absolute must have IMO..
I've got it on my s4 also, and there's not a thing I can do with it to make it skip a single frame anywhere. Love it.

Has TW improved & what the changes?
Howz Battery life & overall Performance?

Clean install . of 4.4.4 then ota . the antutu test happenend with just the phone's apps
Have found first few issues with 5.0.1 stock:
1. Heartrate sensor is almost always active -- if you put your finger or anything else on the sensor it's going to flash red. All the time, even after reboot and no SHealth running.
2. Interruptions mode settings are not complete. HERE you can see how it's done in S5 lollipop firmware, but in Note4 I don't have "Sound mode" settings and no interruprions settings from the volume button menu, only through Settings -- Sound Notifications -- Interruptions.
Next update needed.

Question! Is running ART? if yes, is there an option to go back to Dalvik.
There's no new API for camera. Google, Motorola, Sony and (I guess) LG imported them. Just Sammy doesn't updated it in Lollipop. Pretty dissapointing as it was the only feature that I wanted in this version. Note 3, S5 and S4 are affected too.

Only Google has actually used the Camera2 API in the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.
Motorola, HTC, Sony and LG are all not using them on their Lollipop updates. We may expect them to support it on 5.0 released devices like the S6+
I hope this isnt final!

"Google revealed the developer preview of the next big version of its mobile device operating system – Android M – last week during Google I/O 2015, and the release of its final version is due in Q3 2015. Now, you must be thinking if Samsung is too slow in updating its existing smartphones and tablets to the latest version of Android.
Samsung has already improved its software update game starting this year, and it has already rolled out Lollipop update many existing devices. Now, Samsung is already testing beta versions of Android 5.1.1-based ROMs for various existing devices, and we’ve already shown you the upgraded camera app for the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge that will be released with Android 5.1.1 update for the devices.
Many Galaxy Note 4 users are impatiently waiting for Samsung to release Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the device. Well, here’s some good news for those guys. According to our highly placed sources, Samsung is planning to release Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to the Galaxy Note 4 by the end of July. As usual, we will be the first ones to show you the upcoming ROM running on the actual device."

as an s6 edge user with note 4 i can say. new touchwiz is mostly same with what you are using on your note 4 with lollipop. but 1 exception performance of s6 is just sucks. insane ram usage, lags everywhere, crash etc. and people call it, its best touchwiz performance its basically a lie. its 1 of worst experiences i have ever had with an flagship device.
camera app just has different design capabilities are same pro mode is basically there for note 4 too.
only themes missing. others basically same.

We need full active Lollipop the latest change in toggle, the new camera API 2 with RAW support & the new themes with other Galaxy S6 & Lollipop improvements.
not to forget battery life fix & RAM high usage.
for 32 bit or 64 bit matter I hope they activate 64 bit ability in Exynos version …………… that will be awesome.

The Nexus users reported some performance improvements but these were mainly due to kernel changes. So if Samsung did some good work there, it might be interesting. Otherwise, the 5.1.1. update is going to be quite a non event in my opinion.
I hope they include themes. As somebody on a non bootable US Carrier version, themes would at least allow me to stop looking at the same damn icons I've had on every Samsung device I've had over the last 5 years!

Hi guys
In few weeks we will get new 6.0.1 marshmallow o.s.
Now...ok for doze and some icon but for the rest our s5 is the same...
If you navigate with root browser you can see that all apps etc are the same of kitkat o.s...this is ridiculos
About my personal opinion our s5 deserves more!!
For example new touchwiz, new briefing, new weather app etc
What do you Think?

I think they should make it like the S7's ROM, which looks sweet!
Considered waiting for the OTA but condidering they update jack **** my S5 will be running CM soon
Threre are already s7 edge ported roms but are instable for Now.
I think that samsung doesn't apply new graphical feautures for our s5

They are not instable, they just have a few bugs like Fingerprint scanner S7 Camera and Video Calling not working, but I have been using it for more than 2 weeks and it's super smooth and perfectly able to use it as my everyday rom.
Yes but I wait for future release; )
I totally agree, but samsung just saying if you want the new touchwiz you must buy the new phones, same thing will happen with the newer phones.
But when we will receive 6.0.1 update we could be install new touchwiz etc?
This is my question
Well the most important changes are always under the hood like doze. You can allways change the UI with customizing. Samsung policy is if you want the S7 look, buy S7 phone.
They don't want you to stay with S5 when you can give them money for S7.

i'm happy as long as we get doze, and the new permissions managers. Would be a bonus if we get the DPI changing option
I'm sure there will be a Marshmallow ROM that will suit my needs.
Still I don't get it, why add new icons if they won't bring the themes? It makes no sense for me.
Cm13 on S5 is better than TouchWiz...

Comparing LG, which changed LG G2's interface to G3's one on lollipop including G3 styled weather widget, Samsung seems to not tend to implement new interface to older devices on its update.
They changed the Note 4 UI to the Note 5 design with the Note 4 marshmallow update

The official Galaxy Note 5 Nougat firmware has been released on SamMobile. Since Nougat is the most complete Android version in existence while also improving battery life marginally, I think it would be amazing if someone could port the Galaxy Note 5 ROM for the Galaxy Note 4 International Exynos variant (N910C).
Lol
Or the 910V!

To port a certain firmware the device has to be on the same software level or the hardware should be the same eg: The note 7 "Grace UX" came out with marshmallow so devs were able to port it to the note 4. The next scenario is where the hardware is of the same. The note 5 has a 7420 exonys chip set while the note 4 has the 5433 chip set. So this is clearly impossible. Our best bet is the Samsung Tab s2 which has a exonys 5433 chipset and is due to receive nougat somewhere by the end of may

One thing that confuses me, is that devices like the Galaxy S4 and even the Galaxy S4 mini, have completely stable roms running Nougat, even though Samsung stopped updating those after Lollipop. I see AICP, ResurrectionRemix and all these other projects that create this amazingly rock stable rom for the devices, yet for the Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 4, there doesn't seem to be any movement. :crying:

I used to own a samsung s4 myself before i switched to the note 4 and it was the i9505 (snapdragon variant). Android Open Source (AOSP) roms are possible only for snapdragon devices because the soc's are open source and exonys as we know is manufactured by samsung and samsung does not release the sources thats why AOSP roms are not easy to port to exonys variants. I regret switching phones because the s4 has so many stable aosp roms while the exonys variant's get nothing. Hope i answered your question

Ahh yes, I had a feeling it had something to with the chipsets. It's a shame, I paid full price recently to buy the Exynos variant specifically for modding. I chose Exynos over the Snapdragon variant because the Exynos chip is 64bit compared to the Snapdragon which is 32bit, so it seemed like a better choice given that the Android ecosystem is headed towards 64bit ever since Lollipop and so I would be future-proofing my device. Unfortunately now it seems Exynos is a lot more difficult to make roms for I guess it's almost like comparing the PS3 with the Xbox 360: PS3 has more power than the 360, but the PS3's CBE chip is so much more difficult to make games for. Here's hoping for a long and fruitful development life for the Exynos Galaxy Note 4 :fingers-crossed:

Also samsung doesnt advertise their exonys devices as 64 bit and marshmallow for the device is also a 32 bit os. In short samsung doesnt utilize the full capacity of the note 4's 64 bit chipset. But the advantage is that since the device and the chipset is made by the same company the phone is more fluid and responsive than its snapdragon counterpart. Something similar to googles pixel, software and hardware made by same company

Out of curiosity, which rom have you found to be the best and most stable for the Exynos variant? Or are you using stock?

I regularly switch between stock and custom roms. The best ux based roms are Pirobot v6, Doola v12 and DN7 v0.1
If youre looking for something close to stock erobot v19 would be the best

Yup, v19 seems to be the best. I've found that battery life is abysmal when on UX roms :/ plus, there are far too many bugs from DN7 that I tried. I stuck with erobot 19 and am using Samsung's GoodLock and it works amazingly well. To be honest, I'm not bothered about the GraceUX anymore; Samsung's GoodLock literally does it all while looking sleek. So I've found erobot + GoodLock is the best combo so far! Only downside, fingerprint lock screen doesn't seem to be functional, but other than that, everything else is golden. I was tempted to head back to stock rom but it seems that Samsung cloud doesn't allow the Galaxy Note 4 on stock rom to backup and restore music and other files from Samsung Cloud. The only way I've found Samsung Cloud's backup/restore to fully work is by using erobot and hence why I've stayed away from stock.

There is something which I'd hoped you could help me with, I'm on erobot 19 as you know, for some reason the multiwindow tray keeps popping up randomly. It's the tray that pops up when you hold the back key but it seems to pop up randomly even when I'm not holding down the back key. Do you have any ideas how to stop that from happening without completely disabling multiwindow feature?

I've noticed that whenever I receive notifications on my device and I am using it at the time, I would hear the notification sound (for example, received a new email) and then the multi-window tray opens up. Strange indeed.

I don't think it is the old one, i mean i can see the split screen option above the app card when in recents but then you also have the option to open the app tray which has a bunch of apps in it that you can open in pop-up view.
I would take a screenshot of it but the side multiwindow tray disappears when i try to.
Good lock is causing the popup. All versions after .10
