backup to different amazon account? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have three kids who received kindle fire 5th gens for Christmas. Long story short, the extended family member who gifted these tablets has broken ties with me, and taken it out on the kids by locking two of the three tablets. One tablet can still be used, but as she changed the account password, I can no longer download apps or change any settings on the fire. Also, I'm beginning to have the space issue that I was having so often with all three tablets before, where the OS shuts off wifi because storage is becoming full. So here's my question, is there any way to backup all the games, data, and video that is currently on the unlocked tablet, factory reset it, and then restore them on my amazon account rather than the ex-family members? I'm pretty sure I know how to backup the whole tablet, but restoring that image after a factory reset would just put the current amazon account back on it, wouldn't it? I hate to tell my children that I will have to erase all of the collected things they've downloaded just to hand them back an empty tablet that I can access the settings on. Especially as some of those things were purchased, and would cost a fortune to collectively buy again. Please let me know if this is possible.

It is not possible to (legally and to large degree practically) transfer purchased content to another Amazon account that is not part of the 'family'. It would be best to reinstall the free apps following a factory reset. I understand this is not what you were seeking but really is the best path IMHO.

[Q] Kindle Fire HD Books Won't Load

Hello, just to start out I’m not really familiar with Kindles or Android devices in general despite owning one for a few months now. A few days ago I decided to root it, and after much struggle and attempts I finally got it working. Afterwards I first got rid of the Ads, IMDB, and Cloud9 app since they were a waste of space or in the way.
Since then however I ran into a different problem. I can’t seem to open any of my books that I sideloaded onto my Kindle HD. They’re in mobi format and they show up in the books tab but whenever I click them all that happens is the picture that’s now gone after my last restart gets big like it’s about to open and then after about twenty seconds it just returns to the home screen.
I believe I deleted the wrong app in the process of trying to get rid of the bloat on the device so I tried to install Kindle from the store. The App doesn't show up but it’s installed, however it’s still not working.
Is there any way to fix this problem without doing a factory reset? If that would even fix my problem that is.
Any and all help is much appreciated.
I'd also like to add in that I have tried moving the files from the Books folder to the kindle folder and vice-versa with no luck either way.

[Q] Just asking for general advice after rooting

Dear members of XDA Forums:
So, a few days ago I decided to purchase an e-reader, because there are a lot of books in their original language that are almost impossible to get here in Argentina in physical format. I looked in a few stores, and the Kindle Fire HD 7 seemed fine. It had android, wifi, and some cool random stuff. Well, I purchased it, and was really glad after realizing that what I had in my hands could be turned into a fully functional (and pretty powerful) tablet, not just a reader. So I rooted it, installed a custom launcher, that kind of stuff, and everything went well.
I've been trying to investigate even further, but there are a few particular points to which I found no answer on the forums:
- Currently I'm using the latest version of the firmware (I think it was 7.4.1), and it seems pretty obvious after a quick look at the forums that no wallpaper can be set in that version because Amazon disabled them with a switch in the framework or something like that, and it can only be accesed by decompiling or using the custom script created by mr. stunts513; both of which seem too dangerous for me at this moment (I have absolutely no way of getting a factory cable if something goes wrong, and this thing was worth 2/5 of my monthly salary...)
Was there any update regarding this, or it remains in the same situation?
- At some point before rooting, I'm sure I updated my Kindle. But I've only had it for a few days, so a data wipe doesn't scare me yet. What will happen if I do a total factory restore? I mean, without using any app, just hitting the button in the settings menu. I guess it will unroot and all my apps and personal stuff will be erased, but what about the firmware? Will it remain in the latest I had before restoring (7.4.1) or will it go back to the one it had when I took it from the box?
- I've read several ways to block OTA updates, but there seem to be mixed sollutions for the K7 and the K8'9 in the same threads. Regarding my 7, I only changed the name of the .zip file that controls it (can't remember it's name now, it was in system/etc/security, I think). Will that be enough for a 7?
Thanks in advance, and best regards!
P.S.
Mr. stunts513, please do not take my commentary as a way to despise your work; quite the contrary, I'm grateful and would try it without a doubt if I was sure I could unbrick my Kindle if something goes wrong. But there is no way to be 100% sure, so for now I'd rather wait with a black desktop.
Ah No problem I completely understand, if you feel safe trying to install 2nd boot loader and twrp you won't need a fastboot cable if it bricks, but that has some risks of its own. Factory reset I think pretty much just wipes the data folder, maybe some of the system folder, so it doesn't restore the is to a previous version, least as far as I have ever heard. I can't really speak for everyone but I think renaming the ota certs zip file does the trick but I have heard mixed reviews on whether it does as of late or not, I'd wait for someone else to confirm that.

Question about bricked fire 5th gen

Ok so i bricked my fire 5th gen due to my own negligence in restoring it, long story short it wont turn on at all anymore not even in recovery mode but i was thinking and was hoping maybe someone could give me some answers or suggestions.
My thought is that when they produce the fire they are using parts without any data on them and they have to put the initial information on there to load the OS somehow so my question is, how would this be done? Is there a way to access the internal memory where the OS is stored even if the device wont turn on anymore?
i was thinking if i could access the intranet memory somehow i could wipe it clean and do a factory install of the fire OS to revive my tablet, there is no physical damage only a failed firmware load.
Thanks for your input whatever that may be

If only it were that easy. Assuming you are outside the warranty period. Best option is to post your brick on an auction site (for parts) and order a new device next time they go on sale.

Fire 7in Reboots When Not in Use.. help!

Hey Guys,
I've got two Fire (5th Gen) 7in tablets, which are my kids. they're both completely stock, no Root at all running FireOS 5.3.2.1 and are exclusively used in the Fire for Kids app. They're kept in those huge foamy kids cases with handles and we've drummed into them that they should look after them well which they do.
However, both tablets have shown the same issue; When not in use for a couple of minutes they reboot themselves. After each reboot you can start using them fine, but after a few minutes of not being used they reboot again. So if not actively using the tablets, they will reboot continually until the battery dies.
Amazon has replaced both of these tablets. The replacements are doing the exact same thing. I suspected at this point is may be a problem with my account or profile so I factory reset and registered them on my Wife's amazon account, did not restore from backup, just had them fresh.... And the same problem happens.
Is there a known issue with 5.3.2.1?! Amazon have now processed another pair of replacements which I think is unnecessary, it seems like a software issue to me but they don't have any other suggestions. So I'm hoping some of the brains here may have seen it before!
The only idea I have left is that the "Expandable Storage" option suddenly became available around the time this started happening. Might be a coincidence but I've now factory reset one of them and removed the SD card to see if it makes any difference. Any other ideas guys?

It sounds like the devices may be trying to auto-update and failing for whatever reason. Pure speculation as I no longer run FireOS.

5.6 update bricked my Fire Tablet 7 5th Gen

Boy am I upset about this. So I get the update and I even liked it looking around at the new freed up internal storage. Well, I clean my history, run ccleaner, etc. like I normally do to restart and when I restart it will not pass the fire screen whatsoever. Now this tablet is not and has never been rooted or tampered with in any malicious way. Launcher hijack and things from this forum are the only tweeks used. It will not work.
I have tried factory reset dozens of times, restart, anything I can do from the hardboot blackscreen (I guess it is called). Somehow managed to make it run the initial setup once, ran through hours of fixing it back the way it was. Restarted it again, bricked again. I can never manage to factory reset it like normal again and I mean I've tried 30 times by now. Only "Fire" loading screen. Has anyone seen this? This is not fair.

Yes - I have (indirectly) seen this on numerous unrooted Amazon Fire devices from several generations following a major OTA update. In most cases the device is NOT recoverable unless the bootloader is unlocked (not possible on 5th-7th gen devices). Boils down to a borked update which is not totally unexpected given the manner in which they are engineered and administered by Amazon. Clearly a very high percentage work without issue. Still sucks if you're a member of the substantial minority...regardless of size. You can try giving Amazon support a call...they might throw you a coupon that can be used against a future purchase (including deeply discounted Amazon/Fire devices during "Black Friday" week).
Just an update on this...
After a few days of not being able to use it I powered it on for the umpteenth time and it properly went through factory reset mode. I was able to manually download the 5.6 update again and it is finally back to normal. Funny thing is I now have even less internal storage than before but at least it is working now. That was a huge inconvenience and I still have no clue what happened.
