Install TWRP by using "TWRP" in the "INSTALL" section in Zenfone Assist (if already not installed)
Installation Guide
Open Zenfone Assist
In "INSTALL" section, click "FROM IMAGE"
Select the partition boot and select the kernel image you downloaded (must match system version!)
Proceed the flash
Reboot to TWRP
Flash Magisk-v6-T00F.zip
Flash your Magisk Modules
Enjoy
Note: You need an unlocked bootloader to use this mod.

Hi,
This is the same bzImage of CyanogenMod 13.1, so there's no DT2W.
You can use AndImgTool to manually unpack BORETS24 kernel (You'll need to copy PARTS/BZIMAGE and ramdisk/lib/modules/). Alternatively, you can find a previous version of CyanogenMod 13.1 kernel in CM13 topic for more stability.

It's compatible with the stock Lollipop (check boot.img for versions).
@dgadelha can you also try the latest SU which is v2.78 RS1 it is only flashable and i cant get it to work, with different roms..

Well, you need to do some modifications.
It would be hard to explain here but you can run a diff in the ramdisk of my mod and the original stock.

it seems like it doesn't work with prebuilt kernel. try kenzo-inline version if you need battery level in recovery
I confirm that battery level works with inline version, on a kenzo with newer battery controller (the one that many kernels/ROMs have 50%/-2% problem with).

Ok, so there is no way back. But, why we would be bricking the device if we try to do so? I thought EDL bootstrap would allow to flash the boot and recovery. And using TWRP we could flash the complete 2017U bootstack. Does this mean that LOS 14.1 is modifying the EDL mode? Just curious about this.

Flashing the bootstack from B29 is what will brick you. We are giving you all the updated N stack from N from ZTE. It changes the structure of booting and no zip on XDA and from ZTE will restore the changes it does. Just hold off until I can test downgrading my device.

I understand that your kernel requires that new bootstack in order to boot properly. The previous unofficial alpha version of LOS 14.1 was able to boot using the current B29 bootstack. However that old version had many non functional features.
Hey so wat if I have a TWRP backup of my stock Os.....Can I restore to that if this doesn't work out??

Hmmmm no finger print scanner and no way to go back....It's a tricky situation but with the delay by ZTE leave me no choice... Anyways rooting is possible using TWRP?? Or is it pre rooted?

Instructions
VERY IMPORTANT - Before installing ROM for first time Wipe every partition with flashtool and install stock FTF.
---If you Update the ROM skip 2,3,4,6,8.
1. Download ROM, Gapps, TWRP recovery.
2. Extract Boot.img from ROM zip.
3. Flash the Boot.img from ROM via fastboot (fastboot flash boot pathTo/boot.img)
4. Flash TWRP Recovery via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery pathTo/recovery.img)
5. Boot into Recovery by using VOLUME UP when Sony logo comes up with pink notification light.
(Orange LED shows Recovery is Loading)
6. Wipe SYSTEM, DATA, DALVIK, CACHE from recovery (Wipe Option).
7. Flash the Rom zip from recovery.
8. Flash Gapps zip from recovery.
9. For D6502 user flash Baseband Patch
10. Reboot.
(Optional)
7.2 Root Direct Download Super Su & flash Super SU zip via Recovery

how to unlock the bootloader? I keep searching the guides on xda but I can't find any, I know I unlocked it at some point months ago but I reflashed the exitenz marshmallow over it.

Maybe your device is already unlocked, if you didn't restore the TA backup is still unlocked.

It's TWRP as the title stated. LineageOS for MAX2 is still in develop. Mega was too slow for me

I don't have a USB-C OTG cable, so I can't test it... It should work, but if you say it doesn't then I will look into it.

ZCX TWRP is not available for the MI MAX 2 at the moment. Sorry!

There's a reason the device code name is added to the rom zip name. You're asking for compatibility with a completely different device hardware-wise.
