Warranty Replacement - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just processed an advanced replacement request through Motorola for my Nexus 6 with display uniformity issues. Just wondered for anyone that has received a replacement from Motorola, how was the replacement? I assume they're all refurbished phones. Has anyone had issues with the replacement like screen burn in or other issues upon receipt? Thanks!

I had two replacements come in last month, one which I am letting someone else use. Mine is working great. The other phone started having battery issues a few days ago.... The phone will shut off with no warning at random percentages all day long. 15%, 68%, 98%, etc. So, it looks like it's going to have to be RMAed.

I got my replacement today. Looks brand new. The screen is good, no burn in at all. November 2015 build date. Thumbs up so far Motorola.

Just sent one nexus 6 in for broken wireless charging and got a different phone sent back as a replacement with wireless charging also not working. Should I just give up everything seems good other than the wireless charging issues? I have so many wireless chargers it's sad to have to plug it in every time. Has anyone ever gotten a refurb back from Moto Care and had wireless charging working? I think they either stopped adding the coil or stopped hooking them back up when refurbishing them.

I had a replacement from Google which was a refurbished phone and it looked to me like a factory new one. Perfect.

Yea mine all look good, but did wireless charging work?

Yes, everything was perfect. I remember watching a Youtube review of the N6 by the tech god Marques Brownlee and one of the things that he mentioned was that even on his review model he couldn't get wireless charging to work. Maybe the N6 is a bit fussy about the type of wireless charger you use? I've been using a ChoeTech one for 18 months and it works fine - I occasionally have to re-centre the N6 to get it to pick up the charge, but once it's in the right place it charges perfectly overnight.

You probably got a new one back then, I'm talking about right now at the 2 year mark. I have 7 different wireless chargers, all work fine with my note 5. I think the refurbs at this point are the issue or I'm just extremely unlucky right now. Google and Motorola are two different companies. Motorola probably took out the part to save $1.

I just tested the replacement i just received and wireless charging doesn't work! WTF Motorola?

I think XDA should do a front page story asking people that have refurbished nexus 6 to check wireless charging and then we all make some noise at Motorola. I'm 45 minutes into a call with a supervisor and he is trying to transfer me to a level 2 tech! WTF I told him this is crazy and he just sent me over anyways.

Now i just got told they cancelled the rma that I had set up yesterday. This company is beyond shady

For God sakes, I tried chatting with them and they kept trying to tell me to call accessories support saying wireless chargers are an accessory. I may just take the back off an fix this myself.

LOL, I am still on hold. They better not charge me for this replacement. I received the perfect device display wise too. I don't use wireless charging that much but it's really bugs me that it's broke.
I'm half tempted to open this sucker up to verify if there is a coil there at all.
That's great I just got hung up on.

[Video] Nexus 4 Ear Speaker & Loud Speaker Issues while on Call

Well after ordering on the 13th during the first 15 minutes and being a Limbo Level 3 got my Nexus 4 and this happens
On hold for the last 30 minutes
Edit
There are two issues, one is the buzzing when not on call and the other is the borked up earpiece (maybe less than mine).
I didn't have the buzzing when there were no calls being made but I think the issue I have is an extension of the buzzing issue and is in all probability a manufacturing defect.
They make such an awesome device with bad hardware, Google would be crying
the old device directly goes to LG USA as I can see from my RMA return label so my personal advice to all those who have issue while in call please RMA the device.

Google will be sending a replacement.
That sucks. Does it happen on all volumes or just max?
all the time..fml
Just got off the call with a CSR after 45 minutes of waiting ..they will be sending a replacement but another charge of 349 on my credit card until I return the Old one
That sucks munchy. I'm glad I got a good one. I hope you get everything straightened out.

Yeah I hate the way they do rma's at Google. Why not just charge you if you don't return the old one in a certain amount of time like most other companies? Is it your fault you got a bad one? No!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks Ryan, lets hope I get a new one which is fine soon, I am happy that the one that I sent to John aka VT is good, the moment I found the f**king issue in my phone I emailed him to check his and his is fine, as I ordered 2 and assuming they both were from the same manufacturing lot I guess it's a bug in LG's assemble line
Good luck. Mine makes a very slight nose from the earpiece speaker. It kinda sounds like the soc doing it's thing. I imagine it's fairly normal. I don't have any sounds like you. I feel bad for you because we waited so long and now you got a dud. The one good thing about Google's method of RMA is you can use the old one as much as you like before getting the new. What I don't understand is they have our cc info on file and they still insist on holding the funds. You won't have to pay tax or shipping again though. I had to go through it twice with my nexus 7 so I know how bad it was.
At the same time I do understand why they do it because people could just file an RMA and take off with both devices by removing the card from wallet.
Anyway, I'm sure everything will work out for you. You are good people and I look up to your kindness bro.

Thanks again Ryan, you know how we roll ..bad things do happen to good people I guess

I have heard and I don't know if its true but I remember hearing that you can send in your faulty device then when they receive it they will send you a new one. I'd look into that cause that s just not OK to hold you at bay because you don't have additional funds for there f*ck up.

I've had zero issues with my N4, actually I love it! Only issue is the screen gets hot but that's expected.

This phone should be recalled and we should all get new revised hardware with no issues and usb otg working. Fking ridiculous. I doubt my replacement will be any better and that's why i'm keeping the first phone until replacement arrives.
i've got same problem, although mine is not as severe. Most interesting part is that when I use google talk or skype, this problem does not exist, and it seems to come up only when making regular phone calls!

Replacement nexus 4 lost or stolen......or so I thought.

So my replacement nexus 4 was suppose to be delivered on Monday. Around noon monday, I check the tracking which said it had been delivered...except I was home all morning and no package was delivered. I waited a few hours, figuring it was some kind of mistake with the tracking.
Then, I called UPS and they confirmed that it had been delivered at the stated time. I immediately called google and explained the situation. They were very understanding and started the process of disabling the lost device and issuing me a new one.
However, later that evening, my neighbour rang the bell and had the package in his hand....he had just come back from work and found it sitting at his front door (arghhh UPS ). At this point I hadn't yet received the e-mail from google with the link to order another replacement, so I figured I would call them to let them know that I had found the device. The rep told me that she would send the request to the department that handles lost/stolen device, but it was most likely already too late. She said she would keep me posted on the situation by e-mail.
Today, I still haven't received the e-mail with the link to order the new replacement, and the device is working fine (I assume if they disable it, it would lock me out or something). So I e-mailed the aforementioned rep and explained this to her. She e-mailed back saying that they had already disabled the device and given me a full refund, and that I would have to reorder the device...wtf On top of that she made no mention of returning this device (But I did go ahead and mail back the original phone today).
The phone is still working fine and my credit card doesn't show any refund (though this may be due to the fact that they haven't yet processed the refund....just my guess). Oh and still no e-mail to order the replacement, but I'm assuming since they are apparently issuing a refund, they expect me to place a whole new order?
What do you guys think? Is this just a big miscommunication between the various departments at google? Did they indeed stop the disabling of the device (which would explain why the device is still working)? But then why would the rep tell me I need to reorder the device. Man, this is just a big mess......and the funny part is, this device has the same earpiece buzzing problem for which I did the RMA lol.

Mine is from the Nov 13th batch of orders no buzzing in my ear piece. My neighbor ordered on the 7th and received it on Monday and it has a buzzing earpiece so I don't think that it has anything to do with what batch it came from.

They said once they remote disable the device it will basically become a paperweight. I have no idea of exactly what they do. Can anyone shed some light on this? BTW phone still works.
Why would anyone hold up their phones to their ears when it is not on or even on a phone call??!
is this like the "if I shake my phone real hard, I can hear something rattling inside" complaint?
I can't believe you mailed the phone back before even receiving the e-mail with the link to get the next RMA unit. If I were you I would have kept the phone until it either stopped working or you placed the next RMA order and had the next replacement in hand.
Now who knows when you will get your hands on another N4. Looks like you are in a whole new limbo period.

I think what they do is void the ESN on the device rendering it unusable as a carrier cannot activate a bad ESN.

I can clearly hear the buzzing while on a call on both the original and the replacement phone, and it's really annoying. Obviously if I could not hear it in a call, it would be a non-issue.

I mailed back the original phone that I ordered on Nov 13, not the replacement. The rep said that I had to mail back the original right away to avoid being charged for it. Like I said, the replacement phone is working fine (except for the buzz lol) and so far as I can tell, they have not "disabled" the device in any way yet. Even if they do, I have a perfectly fine HTC one S sitting here that I have no problem using.
Sucks man, sorry. I would've tried to keep that thing as long as I could. As far as the buzzing, seems like all these devices have a shielding or grounding issue which is causing the noise in the ear piece. My first phone which I got from TMobile (I love 30 day return policy ) had a pretty bad electrical/modem sound that was actually very distracting while in a call. The new device which I just received yesterday from El Goog doesn't have this defect, but does have the sound of an active earpiece at all times. Hardly an issue. The previous device sounded really bad over VOIP and calls never sounded as good as with the new one. Best to be patient and satisfied rather than hasty and regretful
Good luck man!!

So I just got an e-mail from another rep saying that they were able to stop the deactivation of the device. lol. No wonder why the phone has been working all along. I think I'm just going to sell the phone since I don't want to go through this whole RMA process again, and it does seem like this buzzing happens on all nexus 4s. I'll probably order one again once these issues have been worked out. In the mean time, I think I can get by just fine with the HTC one s that I picked up brand new for $100 last week

T-Mobile Replacement process

I'm new to t-mo, and I'm gonna need a replacement (i'm just not getting the same battery life as others, regardless of what rom \ kernel combo i use final step is replacement).
How is the process?
how's the quality of the replacement units?
Is anyone using a replacement unit?
Edit: Would like your input ASAP as i'm possibly ordering the replacement today
(former Verizon customer, where CLNR (certified like new replacements aka refurbished) were trash and expected to fail as soon as humanly possible)
The replacement process is fairly painless.
Just call 611 and don't tell them you are rooted.
Odin to stock. Factory reset for good measure.
They send you a new phone and you send in the old one. You usually get an extra back cover and battery out of the process.
I never have received a refurbished unit, but others may have.

Haven't tried a different battery. I have done spin test and tested it via multimeter and all came out well.
Got a couple replacements. All were "refurbs" but they were pretty much new with all the plastics unpeeled. I didnt have a battery issue, so standard shipped is just the unit without battery, cover, stylus. I just use what I had on original and send my old unit back in the same box. It was painless and I didnt have to sacrifice my phone first, just waited for the replacement to come in.
The downside to the replacements that come with no extra cushioning, the Note has moveable parts in the camera since its got an optical stabilizer. Got 2 duds that where I had to slap the phone in order to focus (apparently a common problem). So on the 3rd replacement, it was all good. I'm still a happy camper, as long as it didnt cost me, I was good.

I actually rooted and rom-ed all of them. LOL! But I odined back to stock before sending it back. Still triggered knox, but oh well...

I got a replacement Note 4 from T mobile a month or so after the Note 4 was released. The phone did not come with a back cover nor anything else. Although it appeared new, it still had the factory screen saver on as well as the side bezel covers. There was an app that tests for refurbishment which indicated my unit was new. Not that it matters as I sent it back and kept my original one.
As I was not a jump customer they wanted to charge me quiete a few for postage ( I think $20 ) and processing, and it also took a week. They tried to sell me jump, by saying if I had jump it would have only cost me $5 and that I'd get priority mail 3 days. I dont buy into that rheteric, that also is not very Uncarrier of them - my opinion.
I dont rate their replacement program at all, only because they dont offer centers whereby you could walk in and get it swapped out like ATT. As well as them charging a premium to swap a defective phone.
And as for madmike23 not paying for replacement I guess he got that fee waived. Like I did. But like I said they charge for this service.

What is replacing the device gonna do in this instance .....sigh this is why rates go up and up every year.....stop comparing yourself to others and worry about you. Get a new battery, two even it's removable. You could have poor coverage so battery drain or app running in background etc your usage isn't the same as the nexts, and I hope they deny your claim.
I was gonna say something else and it slipped my mind but I digress

Got mine replaced about 3 months after getting it due to my screen cracking. I received a new replacement not refurbished along with new battery, wall charger with adapter, headphone, battery cover and new sim card. I originally had a White Note 4 and because they didn't have any White ones in stock they sent me a Titanium/Gray color one. I paid $175 for the replacement so I called of course to complain and was given a $30 credit towards my account, so I really only paid $145 fore the new replacement which ain't bad if you ask me.

I never heard of ATT allowing a direct swap in store unless you're within the return period.

And who said T-Mobile will replace or replaces phones? The only way that ever happens is if you're still within the return policy timeframe which I believe is 14 days from date of purchase.

My coverage is fine, I don't live in the boonies.
Actually rooting doesn't affect battery life, this is completely unfounded, and to entertain your thoughtless theory sir, i already went back to stock and tested it there too, same exact results.
I'm not claiming a phone insurance claim, WARRANTY, as i wrote.

Samsung sends T-Mobile returned re manufactured phones to use for in-warranty replacement options . Same process as verizon and all carriers as this is a industry agreement.

Mine was not "refurbished" it came with the original screen protector my original one came with. But I don't see your point.

ATT has stores specifically for device replacement. Well they did two years ago when I was with them.

i don't believe they have that anymore. Verizon used to 3 years ago as well.

POOR POOR POOR experience with Motorola customer service.

Just thought i would post my experience with Motorola customer service. 6 months ago i did an "advanced exchange" with them and received a new device as the first one burned up the WiFi chip. No real issues there. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and my volume down button just stops working. Call in and get so much run around it was crazy. It all stemmed from they said that my IMEI number was not in their system. Well i got news for them, they sent me the darn device with that IMEI. I spent probably a total of 4 hours on the phone and two different times they said it would take a few days to add. Only the second time did it actually happen. So yesterday i received second exchange device and the first thing out of the box the wireless charger doesn't work. Call back today and they say i have to pay for another "advanced exchange".
Made me mad enough i just went and bought a N6P and am saying so long to Motorola.

I work in IT, between my co-works and myself we have 4 nexus 6 devices and 2 charging pads. All Nexus 6 devices charge perfectly on all pads except my new one that charges on neither
I got really poor support from motorola so i thought i would share.

It is just my curiosity. But when the N6 does not charge at all, I wonder if M send you a new device. Within the warranty period M is obliged to fix the problem.

I dont really understand your question...... but yes the device is under warranty. They should honor that by sending me a new one. I am mostly mad they sent me a broken one and want me to pay for them to send another.

When the device is under warranty, you do not have to accept. Maybe the costs of transportation could be yours (warranty conditions). I think you should try again. We all pay for warranty, so don't give up.
I'm not exactly following you. They sent me another device that was broken when I took it out of the box. Now they want 25 more dollars to exchange that one.

I don't know about the specific warranty conditions. But it seems reasonable to me that Motorola must deliver you a 100% working device.
The costs of transportation to send the device back to M. is a different point. When the warrenty conditions does not mention who is responsiblefor the transportation costs, than IMO you have to pay.
Excellent choice mate. Hope Huawei doesn't turn you off as well. Although if I was in your shoes I wouldn't let them off that easily.

I'm seeing poor support from them as well. I tried calling in to get my broken screen fixed and couldn't understand a thing the lady was saying to me and she couldn't understand me either. I ended up doing the online repair request, said it was a free repair with a 4 day turn around. A week and half later they email me that it's going to cost $175. Still waiting for my phone to be returned to me.
Co worker waited over a month and a half to have his moto x pure replaced under warranty and he did the advanced exchange and they wouldn't release the hold off his card.
Seems like lennovo had ran Motorola into ground, or is at least in the process of it.
So my co-worker decided to fix my phone, and what he found makes me embarrassed for Motorola.
Wouldn't charge via wired or wireless. Keep in mind this was supposed to be a perfectly working model sent back from Motorola.
First the reason why it wouldn't charge via the wire. Part of the plastic was under the contacts had snapped off. So the pin was hanging lose. He was able to fix it enough to charge by putting glue in there and getting the pin in a location it made contact.
Second the wireless charging issue. He opened the phone and found that they had ripped the "ribbon" with a screw that went to the wireless charging coil or whatever. He was able to fix that just by patching the ribbon. with some electrical tape or something.
Either way Motorola you get an F for customer experience.
I will never buy another one of your phones after dealing with you guys.
Bought a 6P almost a year ago and its the best phone i have ever owned. I decided to do some follow up posts when i was looking through my history.
You have to remember that Motorola no longer exists. The brand logo has been slapped on a few phones, but what you're seeing now is typical Lenovo. When Motorola was owned by Google, things were very different, and the Nexus 6 is proof of that as it is the only device where both the hardware and software were made by Google-owned entities.
Well, I beg to differ. My experience with their support was good.
I bought a N6 from swappa, a vertical half of the screen would randomly freeze, while the other half would still work; search revealed this to be a hardware issue.
The seller denied the phone had a problem and said I 'must have done something to it'...
Anyway, there were 3 days left of warranty for the phone (July 2016).
I opened a case, got a shipping label, and I received a replacement, however, the replacement was a 32GB version vs the 64GB I sent, so I called support and they immediately contacted their manager, who in turn contacted the logistics group; they emailed a return label, and as soon as the wrong phone arrived in their facilities, they shipped the correct one.
All this took about a 5 or 6 business days.
I could ***** around about the mis-shipment, but as far as support goes, they're way batter than 90% of other companies out there...

***horrible bad burn in note 9***

Don't know how many note 9 with burn there are but here is mine! Looks terrible! Noticed it for the first time last night when it got pretty dark outside and it is super annoying! I assume Samsung will replace with new one? But I have a whitestone and skinomi on it, I am sure they wont cover those
With some light in room
Pretty much completely dark room
Anybody else experience this or have any ideas?
It looks like to me it's screen burn-in. I don't think you can do anything about it.

If you're still within the one year warranty, complain to samaung through "Samsung +" app and don't mention anything about burn in. Just say my screen doesnt look right. If you're out of the warranty then you're SOL.
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
I had the same issue a month ago. Samsung won't replace it but they will change the screen. They did that for me, but the issue is coming back again. People need to reach out to Samsung and bring this issue to light. Too many units are doing this now but not enough people are speaking up.
Check out the Note 9 screen burn in thread and you'll see other users, including myself, who have pics posted of the same issue.
Sorry about your phone... Reach out to Samsung asap and make sure to send them picture evidence of your issue when you send in your phone. The more people to complain, the more likely Samsung will probably decide to replace these defective units.

That close? That shouldn't happen. I'd definitely get a factory replacement from Samsung. I doubt that your carrier would return it because it's been a while.

Yeah, that's not even two months. Burn ins will never happen in two months unless you make them happen on purpose. Just contact Samsung. They will replace it. They have an app called samaung +. Use it. They're very helpful.

yeah i mean i use it daily and average about 2-3 hours of screen on time and nothing intensive or static images that would cause burn in. Do i just return for refund and buy a new phone or try a new note 9 again? I mean is this going to happen in a month or two again??

Talk to a rep on the app. They're very good. I'd get a new one for a replacement from them. Make sure it's not a refurb. O doubt they'd give you a refund. Burn ins dont happen that soon. You literally need at least two years of the same screen layout and same things done everyday. I've been using oleds since Samsung released them on their first note and I've never had any burn in. And yours actually doesnt even look like a burn in to be honest. It looks a screen uniformity issue.

Your phone has a screen problem, not a burn in. Burn ins are shadows of things you have on your home screen, like your status bar and icons. This is nothing like that. This is an issue with your screen and they'll give you a replacement. Just make sure to present your proof of purchase such as your receipt and all that jazz and you'll be fine.

I agree that it is a screen uniformity issue or something odd. I have every note since the note 2 and never seen this and all of those were used a year and never had a problem. My nav bar isn't "burnt in" which is weird because it is always up and dark
and i have been talking to a rep on samsung+ and sending photos and troubleshooting for him, seems very nice and helpful so far

It's basically going to be a new phone. They will keep the mother board and camera from the old phone and put it in a new body.
So new body and new battery.
At least that is how they handled every report of burn in on the Note 8.
If they send you to a UBreakIFix it is about a two hour turn around..
