Even though she doesn't remember, I'm pretty sure my wife dropped her nexus one. Now i gotta fix it.
PROBLEM:
1. Camera doesnt work now. It force closes or just shows black screen forever. The camera flash doesn't work either.
2. After hanging up a call, the screen goes black.
3. Extremely weak WIFI reception.
4. Burning through a serious amount of battery power and the antenna gets really hot.
STEPS TAKEN SO FAR:
1. Thought it might be software related so I installed CM7 and the battery issue got better but thats it.
2. Cracked the phone open and checked to make sure nothing got jarred loose during an earthly impact. The camera unit was a bit cocked but it still didn't fix it. Everything else seemed fine.
ALL OUT OF OPTIONS. ANY IDEAS WELCOME. At this point I am prepared to start swapping parts. Any recommendations?

Had the same issue. Send it in to htc, they will fix it for you. PS: Don't worry about the bootloader.
Well thats the other problem. I cant ship the phone because it has a lithium battery in it. I know, sounds wierd. Its a long story but basically I have to attempt a repair myself hence why I'm looking for suggestions.

I would start by replacing the board that the camera Is on. I think it is called the logic board or something similar
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
The story is I was having a lot of general problems with my Sprint HTC One. I was using it with CyanogenMod 10.1 and I noticed it was getting VERY warm. I then noticed that the battery was at 21%, I had hardly used it all day. It would normally have been around 94% percent. So I was shocked. Then I noticed that is would make weird clicking and "eek" noises when I would browse the Operating system. It would make an especially annoying noise when I would turn on the LED Camera light. I also noticed that the battery would drop about 1 percent ever 30 seconds.
I immediately shut it off and plugged it into my charger (AC). I opened up ClockworkMod and wiped my cache and dalvik cache and then did a factory reset from ClockworkMod. The problems still occured. I then tried flashing an Earlier version of CyanogenMod 10.1. The problem still occured. So I let my battery charge up to 50% (it took a especially long to charge, it would actually lose a charge while charging at times) and then used RUU tool to flash it to Complete Stock. That got rid of the weird noises caused during the operating system use. But the battery continued to run hot and take especially long to charge (somtimes the battery level actually was dropping). I then installed an app to control the frequency of the CPU. It was set to always run at 1.7GHz. So I fixed that and made the minimum Frequency the lowest option and the Max Frequency 1.7GHz. That solved the charging problem.
I left it to charge over night and by the morning it was at 100%, so I unplugged it and turned it off. I thought I had solved everything. I left the phone alone for about 4 hours and when I checked on it, it would not boot whatsoever. I could not not even get into the Bootloader! Then I plugged it back into the charger to find out that the Orange charging indicator LED would NOT light up! So for now, it is just sitting in the charger without the charging indicator light lit up.
I would also like to mention that I am not the original owner. I bought this phone used. It does not have the normal Sticker on the back of the phone to indicate the Serial Number etc. And since I am not the original owner, I do not believe I qualify for a replacement warranty. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

If you are under service they should. Phone is still under manufacturer warranty. If you don't have insurance, worst case scenario you pay $50 for a refurb/new phone. Of course that's if they can't repair

But will they still replace it if I'm not using it with a plan? I bought it from someone else and I never re-activated it.
I've called sprint and since I don't have the phone under my account and since it is not activated, they will not repair it. So a replacement/repair is out of the question. So is there anyway I can fix this myself? I'm familiar with flashing and all that stuff, so any of that stuff is just fine.
There is no way you can repair this yourself.
And eek! This problem's back? What? You were using the latest nightly too?
And since you have no warranty (pretty sure its non transferable), you should look up JTAG services. $60. It may not be as clean as you'd like, though. Besides, HTC repair service wouldn't fix your device for free because, even though the device is bricked, they can see your tampered boot loader. They charged me $200. I probably won't root again.
This has happened to at least a dozen people, but all if them were before July 3rd. This is kind of disturbing.

Hey, it's always worth a try. I always used the latest nightly. I updated whenever they pushed a new update. I had it running CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly for over a month without a single problem. I've been using it on my Galaxy Nexus for over a year. This is the first time it's ever given me a problem.
I'll look into the JTAG, but if anyone else has any ideas I'm up to try anything. The bright light while holding Volume Down + Power didn't work for me.
OP.... wow. Just wow.
So you have the device's processor spinning at 1.7 GHz constantly, and you are wondering why it is warm? You are also running a custom OS with a myriad of bugs and issues, and you are wondering why now your device isn't working properly.
Unbelievable. You shouldn't be playing around with its powerful hardware if you have absolutely no clue what you are doing, don't you think?

I did know what I was doing. I was running a stock build flashed by RUU. So I assumed that it would have a decent frequency management (that should be a safe assumption). I know what I'm doing when it comes to android's. I'm not stupid enough to have the CPU running at the full 1.7 GHz. Immediately after it started getting warm again that was the first thing I checked. Normally I underclock my devices. I usually have my Galaxy Nexus run at 700 MHz. I've also been using Nightly builds for my Nexus for over a year and I've found it to be stable enough to decide to flash it on my HTC One. And until 2 nights ago, It was perfectly stable.
I've done no fault on my own. I personally blaim HTC for pumping out a ROM that let it run at 1.7GHz 24/7, even unrooted.
Also to include, while I was running CM 10.1 I had my CPU set to a minimum of ~300MHz (forget exact frequency) and a maximum of 1.7GHz. I'm not stupid enough to set it to run at 1.7GHz 24/7 for any reason whatsoever. I was shocked when I saw that it had been running at 1.7GHz 24/7 (had only been running for an hour in sleep mode at that point before I fixed it).

10.1 is very close to stable...
Except, you know, the bricking issue.
Where does it say the device was maxed out on purpose? Stock CM is supposed be pretty good at CPU management.
So now we know what is causing the bricks. The CPU is literally self destructing. We should have deck look into it.
I'm considering selling it to technollo.com . With a promo code, they will pay $70. I only payed $230, so I might as well just cut my losses.

Really sucks man.
Again, just goes to show. If you can't afford to lose/fix your device, then you shouldn't be rooting it and stuff. HTC makes no guarantees that the phone will be able to run AOSP ROMs. The devs just do their best. Phones are getting more and more complicated, and it gonna get harder and harder to make stable ROMs for them.
Looks like this is your only option... maybe you can go and get yourslef an N5 when it comes out as a replacement?

Well I think it's worth the risk. Usually I can fix nearly any software issue possible. However, this is a hardware issue. I love modifying my devices and I won't stop anytime soon. My Personal computer currently has full liquid loop (GPU + CPU) that I setup and maintain that I am proud of. Sometimes things just go wrong. That's no reason to give up. For now I'll just continue to use my Galaxy Nexus until I find it necessary to upgrade.
However if anyone would be interested in purchasing this HTC One from me, just message me and we could try to work something out.

I never asked you to stop rooting. It was just a PSA saying one should only root if one can afford to lose or fix one's device.
English is stupid.
So anyone notice the new included app itson is becoming a battery hog... Over my phones past battery die down this app has used the most percentage.
http://www.itsoninc.com/
Haven't seen this blip up in my usage yet... Don't see it listed in all apps either on my HK... I took the OTA straight from Sprint too...
HK device here also. I dont see it either.
Mine is a non HK. And in all honesty, I haven't seen it pop back up since the post. So weird. Took eta moment it became available.
Edit: I lied. Just checked it right now and it's back. And at 40% usage again. Haven't really been on it today since I been doing some around house projects.
Don't disable it. It will kill data connection.
I've noticed this app in the system/app folder before flashing some of the 4.4.4 roms over these past few days... I've removed it from the zip file before flashing a new ROM and haven't had any issues
Great, I see it now that you have mentioned it. Hope this isn't another Carrier IQ.
I've got the HK edition, no root, 100% stock, only started happening after 4.4.4 OTA. It's currently at 48% usage of my battery, killed it in under 12 hours. Any idea how to get rid of it? I don't see it in apps list anywhere...?
For ha ha's I sent an e-mail here - http://www.itsoninc.com/contact-us/ asking why this is on my phone and how to kill it since it's sucking major battery.
I'm not seeing it on mine are you on contract or off from what I gather it's mainly for off contract customers
Sent from my 831C using XDA Free mobile app
From itson's press release with sprint earlier this year, sprint stated that this app is some how suppose to help customers with the no contract and pre paid variety. Not sure how though.
http://www.itsoninc.com/news/sprint...-to-power-future-no-contract-mobile-services/
I am having this issue. I think its connected to the Sprint Zone app. I have disabled just about everything I can in that app. I will follow up if I see any change. I am sully stock, not rooted, and took the 4.4.4 OTA as soon as I could. The app was responsible for about 48% of battery drain on my phone.
It looks like it is slowly going down. It's now at 44%, but that is still high. Hopefully it will continue to drop throughout the day and then stay low. I don't really care for the Sprint Zone app in the first place, so no love lost with disabling all of it's features. I am guessing the folks who have removed the bloatware aren't having this issue.

Over the weekend with bloatware I did see it, but nowhere near 40%. After removing bloat Sunday I haven't seen it in the battery usage. On my girlfriends H/K M8 I took the OTA last night, so far I haven't seen it pop up yet in battery usage, I'm pretty sure it will though at some point. If so she has no choice, I will root it and fix it!

Yes. I blocked the number via hangouts after I got a few messages in ten minutes.
Very upset to find this app preinstalled on my HK after the 4.4.4 update. I can't even make it through a full day of regular use now, the second highest app using up my battery is Textra at 9%....ItsOn is in the lead with 45% battery drain. Fully stock, no root, and was hoping to stay that way. Now it seems it might be necessary to change that just so I can have a working phone for a full day.
Past couple of days all of a sudden it hadn't shown up us usage. Weird. Under gsam battery monitor though it's still in there. But barely using any power now in comparison to the 40% it was doing
I plugged my edge into my laptop for the first time today, right away there was a popup stating that there was a update available for my phone. It updated and now my screen rotation works.
So, i guess it was a software issue and not a hardware issue like everyone assumed?
Just thought i'd share for anyone else with their screen not rotating.

I honestly don't know how large the file was, it just started downloading as soon as i plugged it in. Download only took about a minuet. Build number - LRX22G.G925VVRU1AOC3
BTW, I rooted with Pinngpong before the update and i'm still rooted, so this doesn't remove root.

The fix is making the phone use the gyroscope for screen rotation. If you have a way to check (very difficult 0n Verizon) I bet your accelerometer is still fried. I read on another forum that those who received the "fix" and were able to check their accelerometer found that it was still locked. Si it could be that the hardware is still at fault. ?????

Thankfully within the 14 day return period, I am getting a brand new 128gb model. I'll use an old charger until I see evidence that the fast charger is not the cause. Possibly a combination of that with the kernel allowing the phone to get too hot. I'd like to hear from anyone who's screen rotation works if they use the fast charger that came with the phone or not.

My screen rotation works just fine and I've been using the fast charger since unboxing (the day it came out). 64gb black if that matters to you.
I actually wasn't even aware there was an issue with the device outside of poor memory management. Maybe I'll switch an an older charger for now.
Also, be careful taking updates ... it's possible they've fixed the vulnerability that allowed us to get root way before any of us truly expected it.

Can anyone provide a point-by-point difference between the two other than "SM-N910T3 is just better"?
I've seen the question asked a few times in previous threads, reddit but I have not seen anything conclusive.
Also it seems the initial question becomes a quick after thought because it quickly delves into rooting questions, which I do not care about at this point.
I get that SM-N910T3 has 5.1.1. but what else? Heck even if its a best guess I'd love to hear it here.
For now this is what I got from Reddit:

Samsung likely changed suppliers for one or more of the key components (likely a cost reduction measure for a phone that's about to go out of production in a few months), and as such the ROM had to be altered to support it.

For what it's worth I had the N910A (on AT&T) for about 9 months. The T3 seems much snappier. It has it's quirks though, the pen icon gets stuck on in the notification bar and so does the headphone icon.

It at least seems that T3 does not suffer from any of those GPS issues people were reporting on "regular" Ts. I got T3 myself, would be happy to answer any questions I can

What do you mean
My pen icon gets stuck occasionally as well, I think it's a 5.1.1 issue unfortunately.

When I got my T3, I just went to Kies and reinstalled the software, haven't had that issue yet. Now it works better than my old Sprint Note 4

What was wrong with it that Samsung had to fix it? How did you get a newer phone and then your old phone back?
I ask because mine is starting throw fits like a stubborn mule and its really pissing me off. If it doesn't just lock up and freeze, its bt connections or dropped calls.
So the n910t3 is the developers edition?

Learned something new.. I was just had a long text chat with samsung suppoprt... it looks like the n910t3 may be the developer edition? they checked a few IMEI numbers / serial numbers and confirmed my device was developer edition which may explain the model number difference and may explain the 5.1.1 while n910t is left at 5.0.1 for now. Samsung also confirmed that Tmo has 5.1.1 and it's up to them to decide when / if to deploy it.

That's what Samsung told me over chat too. I have the chat saved. The rep also said I could go into a store and specifically request one (though I don't think that's right). I wonder why they're selling them? Possibly a large shipment was ordered in error? I wonder what the difference is aside from having 5.1.1. I know on the ROM development side of things, everything is mostly compatible.
I had that suspicion though too; I asked if it was an internal developer edition meant for testing updates before they're released to the public, and the Samsung rep reassured me that's exactly what it was. I wonder why they're for sale though.

BAH! Who knows and who cares now I guess. I just got off the phone with Tmobile and they told me its just a software update. Then I found this article pretty much saying the same thing, from last month.

My phone completely died. Turn around was about a week and a day.
Ok so about the SM-N910T3 compared to my previous 910T and what I've accidentally...
Ok so a few things I've accidentally noticed about my T3.
First off, Had to get my Note 4 replaced by T-mobile 2 days ago, they said it was on backorder, so I get a brand new Note 4 direct from Samsung and then I realized the registration screens looked slightly different, so I went to the settings menu, I'm like "Something doesn't feel right" so then I found it, 5.1.1 which I tried updating my 910T 3 days ago, and wouldn't go beyond 5.0.1 THEN found out it was the N910T3 that i Had just gotten.
After careful review on my old NOTE 4 to still send back, the glass on the Note 4 curves down INTO the walls around the edge of the phone. about 0.5mm depth, on the SM-N910T3 it doesn't. It curves down, but almost PERFECTLY LEVEL to the edge walls., ALSO haven't gotten to try the GPS thing yet, but mine worked FAIRLY well always anyways.
The OTHER major thing I've noticed, and this is WITHOUT the battery, since a charged battery weighs slightly more than an uncharged one.
119g for the SM-N910T vs 123g for the SM-N910T3 == 4grams difference in weight? S-pen is the same, both with a sim card and microSD card, no battery. Hardware upgrade?
I said screw it in the end and ponied up to buy a new one. I swear to gawd every employee looked at me crossed eyed when I told them I didn't want to buy the Note 5.
I must have gotten the last normal note 4 then through warranty because that is what they sent me. I called Tmobile and tried to get it resolved but they told me to contact Samsung (I did) and they told me they were just going to fix my phone and I'd be without one for about 10 days.
As for differences I did notice the extra option at boot up too. My GPS seems to lock a lot faster. I will have to keep playing with it though to verify as I haven't had much time to go through it yet but I will say the Samsung Smart Switch was very nifty in getting my settings transferred over.

I switched from sprint to T-Mobile a few weeks ago, caught them throttling my data after 13GB. Had to ditch the sprint note 4 and get the Note 4 through JOD
