[Q] SM-T719Y as a phone? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the SM-T719Y have the necessary hardware (properly positioned speaker & microphone) & software (Dialer application) to be used as a phone?

Has no one actually purchased this model?

My 817T has a speaker and mic. I tried for over a month to flash a different regions rom. I got it at one point but lost all connectivity in the process. I finally caved and just started using google voice as a means. The dialer app is disabled on these units. I don't know the same would apply to you for sure.

The sm-t719Y has a dialer for phone calls.

I did not purchase one, since my question went unanswered for more than two weeks and I was not willing to wait longer for a replacement phone. I wound up buying an Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra (the ZU680KL). No 4g in my area, but is otherwise a perfect device for my needs.

Thanks for replying appreciate it, shame I wasnt on board at that time as you were when buying. I am buying now, still researching, its a minefield out there LOL. Its a toss up between the smaller SM-t719 and larger 819 version, either the Y or international version with phone diallers will do for me. Prefer Y as its got the added AWS UMTS band ,a lthough moot since its been refarmed where I live. I think the smaller 8 " would handle better , not that id be pocketing it mind LOL.

There's one being sold as a bad esn on eBay currently. Be warned the sellers couldn't verify the model number as an sm-t719y for me when made contact , in fact after a few emails he removed my bids.
We all know a bad esn international means **** here in USA so nondoubt it's not actually a 719

Hello!
I have the Gold Galaxy Tab S2 T719Y as well. From what I understand, this model was originally exclusive overseas (Korea I believe..?) and somehow was shuffled to the US. Mine in particular has a foreign wall adapter in which I have to plug into a separate adapter to charge here in the US.
From time-to-time, companies end up making a flagship version of certain models and keep them exclusive to their native country - I'm under the impression that this is the case for our T719Y devices [I could be wrong so please don't quote me].
Being cost effective, I went into a T-Mobile store (since these are GSM) to initiate service to my device. The clerk and store manager were baffled and in aw over my Tab S2 and it's unique qualities such as the dialer app. After messing around with a few different active SIM cards from display phones and tablet in the store, the clerk gave me to option to open a basic 2 Gb data plan for $20/ month (which is what I requested upon arrival) or to attempt to register the device as a phone and receive unlimited text, talk & data for $40/ month.
I purchased this tablet for the sole purpose of operating my drone so I don't really need much data, I just need to power Google Maps a few times a month without the hassle of fumbling with my phone's hot spot. To me that's worth $20/ month, but idk about $40.
I'm anxious to see if anyone successfully makes calls with the dialer app with the T719Y. Please keep me in the loop!!!

I'm using an sm-t819y same device bigger screen with t mobile with no issues. I didn't purchase a separate sim card specifically for this device, I'm using a phone sim card from a spare line.
If you look for some of my previous posts and threads you'll see that i was specifically looking for a tablet that could work for voice and data on T Mobile .The Y model has the added aws umts band 4 that the international doesn't .But none have band 12 LTE, not a deal breaker for me.
The only tablet I had that supported all bands on T Mobile as well as make voice calls via the inbuilt dialer was my previous Sony spg771 , but again a certain customization region model was needed else phone dialer were disabled also.
That device was great but the 16.9 ratio didn't suit my needs. Also the capacitive touch keys don't light when I touch the screen on the Y models. A bit **** when wanting to go back a screen in the dark. They do light up when touched directly though. Seen a few videos of the 819y and there's all like that

[Q] Soon to be Blacklisted TAB

Didn't see a Q&A section so I figured I'd just post here.
So I found the Galaxy S Tab on Craigslist and bought it last night... Got it for $220 after some INTENSE haggling. The device was unopened!
One of the reasons I was able to get the price so low was because in 21 days (30 days after original purchase) the bill on this device will not be paid and I assume the device will be blacklisted by sprint - blocking the ESN. Right now it has the 4G service attached to it, but I bought it unopened so I have not activated the service, meaning I didn't not go through the on screen steps from sprint to get it online (3/4g network). I figured now, and always as the phone will have a bad ESN soon, I can just use the tablet as a wifi device around the house and other places.
I just wanted to see if that was a good deal ($220) even though it's now basically wi-fi only (just like an ipad without 3g). Is there any way to clear the ESN once it goes bad?
Sounds fishy, but dang good price. Basically you have a wifi Tab. Once ESN is blacklisted, you the other party can't do anything about it (ofcourse there are *cough* *cough* ways around that too, but i digress). But hey, enjoy your Tab anyway. Just to clarify, the Tab has 3G, not 4G.
Daym I went through something similar but not that cheap lol I got mine for 500 on craigslist scary meeting up the guy in front of a Ralphs lol i, but for the price u paid that's too good to be true and that's when u should be concerned, well at least now u have a really cheap wifI tablet too bad its not gsm
And for that price I would of bought a few more if he had any lol

What will happen is that the tab will be stuck at the activation page. Right now there is no way to get around activation on the Sprint version. There is a workaround on the other versions by pressing the volume button in a sequence. Right now the Sprint version will not accept the workaround. I was about to buy a Sprint version off of Craigslist, but after reading many posts on different forums about this issue, I stayed away.
I opened and used the device last night. The Sprint activation is a little notification that you can hide, but you're right in that it doesn't go away. But the device does work perfect. Used the browser and some games last night. Not sure how much purpose it will serve me though. How do you guys usually use yours?
Having quick google maps, a mini web browser sitting around, and possibly multimedia is all i can think of, but I have laptops, desktop, and my android phone :/ I'm considering selling it (even though i just opened it! haha) but i'm not sure how much i can get for a going-to-be-bad ESN.

Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
Bought a verizon tab for 400 and it was associated with the owners account. All he did was disassociate it from his and I activated a new plan. He owed like 900 bucks on his cell phone bill, but was making payments.
Kinda ridiculous that the device is tied to a account like that on Sprint.
I just for my tab from tmobile. Ended up paying 349.99. I got my vibrant from tmobile, same phone line, four months ago for 149.99.
Retention is the ****, lol.

Locked
Yeah, it's because he used a business account and even the rep on the phone said that they lock the phone to the account for only the first 30 days. After that, it can be pulled off but thats when they'll also see he's not going to pay the bills.
The rep did say that you can cancel the line within the 30 days ONLY by going into the store your bought the device and signed up for the service at. I can't remember the explanation why but part of it was like inventory or something (sounded like bull___ ) but he also said that they do this to dissuade fraud because "a lot of people were ____insert my scenario with this guy here ___". But he bought them all offline so I'm not sure how that would work.
Anyone buying a CDMA device off CList should always call customer service and verify ESN (takes a few mins) before money exchanging hands. Simple as that.
Now of-course if I see a Tab for $200, !!, heck I'll throw caution to the wind and scoop it. Worst case, I have a wifi Tab.
I buy and sell my stuff on CL and that's how I operate.
I am actually shopping for a wifi only tab. I currently have a Viewsonic G Tablet but my return date is approaching and I will prbly return it.
Any carrier better or worse for what I am looking for?

I have an opportunity to buy a sprint galaxy tab for $250. Bad ESN but in perfect shape with case and screen cover. Is it worth it?
I just bought a blacklisted one off of CL for $100 it's cool for the wifi right now but will it ever be able to be transfered to my contract?
My Tab...
Came from CL, too... As-new AT&T refurb mint condition but it cost me $375... I use it for everything and it its my phone too so I guess it was worth it. Bad on AT&T for crippling it like they do but thanks to xda I have fixed that

Bought another HTC One (M8) it's a little different

My 1st phone I bought on day one started with S/N FA has the "NO 3G of Death".
Sprint still has not even given an ETA on replacement (since last Sunday). F that. So I bought another one.
I did buy a Galaxy S5 first at best buy but they were $100.00 more. I caught them just before closing. When I got home my wife asked, oh you bought a Verizon Phone !!
So I returned that and figured if I'm gonna buy and return something why should BestBuy pay the price. I'll let Sprint take that hit.
So I did compare every setting in every ##nnnnn# I could find.
They were EXACTLY the same. Including Signal Strength.
But I noticed this phone is a little different. For one it works, that's always good. Side By Side they do not behave the same. On multiple Towers.
I notice the Power button is way more recessed. I like that. The first one was kind of high.
Second on my first one holes behind the speaker grill on top and bottom look whitish on the right half.
On the new phone they are black (hollow) all the way across.
This phone Serial S/N starts with HT.
Hardware Rev is the same.
I have applied S-OFF, Unlock, Recovery (Captains 2.7.0.7 this time) and running Bad Boys Harman 1.1. But I'm staying on Stock Firmware for now. Stock PRL too.
The Sprint fellow (through chat) that helped me activate the new one, was very good. We tried everything to fix the old one. By activating new one, then going back to old one etc.
It just misbehaved.
Some Sprint people thought it was my account. Nope.
Some Sprint people thought it was my towers. Nope.
It was the phone.
Still not 100% sure if it's hardware or software.
I did back it up with QPST first thing.
I can confirm that this does happen on HT serial numbers as well, waiting for my device which should be there on tuesday
Interesting. I had five OG Evo's, and three Evo Lte's. I remember the certain build of the Evo's having issue's, and trying to avoid those. I have an FA. Runs smooth.

I saw a tear down video that showed spring contacts to connect the antenna's BEFORE I bought it.
When I saw that, I thought, oh sh$t not again. HTC One X (I think that was the model, the model year before M7) was plagued with antenna Issues.
Some DIYers soldered wires to connect the antenna to fix it. I never had an issue. You could squeeze that model to "Temporarily" fix it because it was plastic.
You can't squeeze the M8 to test the Theory.
I was very tempted to take my broken M8 apart and retention the clips. I may still, since the broken one is going to be returned anyway.
You can see it in this Tear Down.

I could be completely wrong that those spring clips are related, but I was concerned BEFORE I bought it.
So I'm concerned too. One day at a time. I still prefer the M8 over S5 (Having never owned a Samsung).
I might have HTC repair my broken M8. Since I have a running phone (at the moment) I have the luxury sending it to them.
I just googled it. In the case of the old HTC One X it was the WIFI Antenna

I came from the galaxy s3, it was a damn solid phone. Never had issues with it. I like sense more than TouchWiz though. I just was in sprint chat again and they told me to go to a different store, and that they advised the store that the device doesn't seem to be working properly. I'll be going there tomorrow to see if I can make any headway. If not, I may end up switching carriers. Not sure yet.

I feel your pain man. Every store I went into I was more upset leaving. With them saying things like we know it's broken, we have shinny new ones here we can't give you.
You have to wait in line for a refurb.
What really got me was I was on the phone getting status on my back order and asking why he can't give me one from the store, you have them in stock.
He said "who told you that, we don't have any". That's the same store I bought the 2nd phone at !!!
I was ready to dump them too. But they are all the same. I have Verizon for FIOS and they are just as slimy and way more expensive.
TMobile seems reasonable but I'm not sure I trust having a GSM phone at my cabin. Most GSM phones get no service up where my Cabin is.
I also have the SERO 500 plan on two lines.
Sprint used to be much better in situations like this. I've never seen anything like this. I think I've been with them for like 15 years. New phone every year.
I think I'll be buying my next phone through BestBuy. But it's tricky with SERO Plan because I don't think BestBuy can activate it.
And I won't be buying another phone on release day. I rarely do.
I have the same plan. Hopefully I have better luck tomorrow. I don't know what carrier I would switch to anyway.
Just so you know you can't go just on the first 2 characters.... That just says where it was made....have to use the next few to determine a time frame... Seen some come out of the same factory and be world's apart.
There's a thread in the One forum going over SNs.....
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
I'm amazed you still have the SERO plan. I had it then Sprint made me move to a new plan when I got my OG Evo when that came out.
Looking through other forums like T-Mobile and their new phones and there isn't much talk about this. Makes me wonder about good ole Sprint.

Yeah this is the first time I ever heard of this. I just switched to T-Mobile but still browse the Sprint forums to see whats happening in my old neighborhood. Ive never heard of the "No 3G of Death" on any other carrier forum. I wonder what the issue could be???
I don't think that Sprint has their network hitting on all cylinders. Upgrading their system to Sprint Spark while releasing flagship phones hasn't been smooth.

The Network has it's issues. But this phone (some instances) has issues of it's own.

Thining of buying this device, is it made for the US market, will it receive Nougat?

Hey guys, I like this phone because of its durability and am thinking about buying it.
I'm an Europe resident and dont know if the phone is made for the US market solely, because I don't see submodels and almost nobody is selling it including stores and second-hand.
Is it prone to screen burning? I saw a few listings on amazon that show massive spots of burned pixels
Also do you think it will receive Android 7? Thanks a lot!
It was designed as an exclusive for AT&T, a US carrier.
The phone is no more durable than any normal phone.
If you drop it, the screen can (and probably will) break.
It might be marketed as water resistant (has an ip68 rating), but many seem to fail after getting wet.
Updates for this phone are late. Don't expect updates beyond MM.
Boot loaders are locked, root is extremely unlikely.
I bought it because it was the first big battery galaxy. I like it, but subject to the warnings above. I don't care about updates, as long as the phone works, I'm happy.
The S7 and Note 7 line now all seem to offer comparable attributes, but they look a little slippery (I don't use a case).
Hope this helps,
AoN
if you are talking about buying s6 all I can say is keep in mind this should happen to you
1 bad battery life
2 home button stuck
3 loosing imei anytime If you don't have backup that'd bad
4 blue dots on front camera

I have been using my Active in Brazil for over 6 months, very far away from any AT&T coverage, and very happy with the device.
- The battery live is fantastic
- It has an IR blaster, that the S7 has not
- It gets OTA updates every month from At&t even in Brazil
- I have used 4G it in a couple of countries in Europe (Swiscom and Lyca) withou any issues
- It is tougher then the S7 and I never had any water related issues even though I often use it in pools and shower
Just don't expect to root it, and you'll have to disable a bunch of At&t crapware.

Galaxy S10 Live Demo units?

I’ve been seeing recently that there are demo units in the wild.
Question is: Are Samsung live demo units full phones with demo software (like Huawei P20 was) or are they missing anything?
Wondering just in case I see a cheap one on eBay.
Most demo units won't have a SIM slot/ cellular networking services

Thoughts on a motherboard swap?
As in get a fully functioning motherboard and put it into the live demo?
I presume the cellular and sim reader would be on the motherboard so in theory it would work? Provide the demo rom is flashed with official.
In theory yes. Because that's usually the only difference between a demo and a live unit.

Sounds very complex, better off buying it out imo. Be so screwed if the motherboard had a bad imei.
Come to think of it, I don’t even think phone companies sell replacement motherboards?
That's what my current phone is (Note5) bought it off eBay and come to find out it's a T-Mobile Note 5 with a motherboard swap from a UAE Note 5 (N920C). Haven't had a single issue with it

It's possible to find them but I think they would be scavenged for the most part from a parts phone. The power of eBay and Amazon. ?

Sorry I didn't try to confuse anybody, it was my humorous way to point out the deceitful and shady practices of some ebay(also Amazon), 3 party sellers who would sometimes unscrupulously "sell a brick" to rip off their unsuspecting victims(customers). In this particular case they may try selling a dummy drones of the real Galaxy 10.
Was looking at a Gmate Smart device. Apparently it gives cellular connectivity to demo phones without the need to swap motherboards. Just connects via Bluetooth. Can’t seem to find one with 4G tho, otherwise I’d almost consider buying one paired with a LDU.

Nothing like multiple posts is there? CDMA is a type of phone network not a phone so it's not the same as LIVE DEMO. I've seen some of those phones without a modem which will never work and some that work after flashing the correct firmware. Just make sure the seller takes returns.
S10 Live demo units are repairable.

Backup Software for Note 9

I've read about SmartSwitch and Kies 3. I currently use Kies 3. I don't care how user-friendly, clever, or fast it is. Anything better than Kies 3 to be able to restore single apps and pull out previous APKs? We learned the hard way that we need to turn off Google automatic updates from the play store. They arbitrarily roll out new policies that cripple businesses and cost them many thousands of dollars.
Thanks!

I have never been so frustrated with a phone purchase. I probably have 40 hours in this and it looks like it isn't over yet. First people say once it's upgraded to Pie there is no going back. Next they say it's no problem. Next they say you cannot go back to Oreo and I have a phone on order that is about to get re-listed if I cannot revert it. Now I'm rooting for Hawwaie, a new operating system, and for them to be a US carrier. These guys are criminal.

I feel your frustration. I bought this phone because I wanted a hi end hi performance phone & I thought I'd stay on Oreo until there was a root method for my Snapdragon model only to find out that after hitting no to the update request about 20 times it still forced me to upgrade. Why the heck do they ask if you want to upgrade or not if they're just going to force you to upgrade anyway. As for the bootloader thing if you are on version 1 it doesn't matter what release firmware you put on it just as long as it is bootloader version 1 or higher. Once you go to a firmware that has bootloader version 2 or higher you are unable to go back 2 a firmware that is lower then the one you're currently on. It is stupid but I don't know what to say because I am in your position, stuck with a phone I cannot root and paid big money for. If you have any questions on how to do things just PM me and we can chat I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to Samsung devices and the note 9 as I've had mine since it was released. Do you have the exynos or snapdragon model? Mine is snapdragon so that is the one I am most familiar with. If I don't know something that you ask me I will not lie and pretend like I do know and feed you information that could lead you down a bad Road. I will give you answers if I do have the correct ones and I am sure of that.
What is it you wish to do or have done with your phone? If it is rooting/jailbreak and you have the exynos model you have an 80% chance that you can succeed in doing so. If you have the Snapdragon model like me we probably will not see a jailbreak or root anytime soon, if at all. There are ways and tricks to get around a lot of problems but they involve work and knowledge and time and usually they are a lengthy process to complete a simple task if it doesn't come out of the box already doing what you wish.
I'd love to trade mine if I could find somebody with a phone that is rootable and it's in the same quality and performs close to the way this one does. I'm going to hold off though because I have downgraded to Oreo and everything I need is functioning at the moment. My only wish 4 root is because I'd like to run Viper4android to be able to get the best sound quality out of the phone possible. For me there is not enough Bass and the volume level is too low, and when you turn the bass or treble up using the EQ provided by Samsung the music goes quieter just so the bass and treble sound louder by comparison. This phone has a very low end audio quality in my opinion. I hate the earbud headphones they come with, AKG I believe. They keep falling out of my oddly shaped ear canal and don't provide me with anything I'd consider special sounding. They rate the headphones as high end $100 value but to me I've bought better for $29.99. Some may disagree but with hiphop/rap I need, well like heavy bass & sharp snappy treble without loss of mid range vocals. I'm getting married in 3/4 of a year, maybe I'll ask for a wedding gift (doing a money tree) and get me some $400 beats over ear headphones by Dr Dre. This phone without viper4android may not push them tho so I'll get a Bluetooth model which provides its own amp power supply.
Like I said if you have questions I'll tell you what I know, what I've actually done myself, and what I'm unsure of. I feel for you so least I can do is offer. Don't give up just yet. Day 2 on Oreo 8.1.0 and still nothing about updates has come up. It's two simple adb commands that stops the forced updates and it affects nothing on the phone. No prompts or error messages & EVERYTHING else works fine. It's easy to undo also and does not void warranty.
Cheers mate, take a deep breath & we can look at each issue 1 by 1. Hopefully their easy to correct.
I'm Ryan by the way. Ttyl ?.

There is, the Pixel 2XL. The Pixel 3XL came with Pie. There isn't much difference between the two. The reason I didn't is I will be living in a South America most of the time and I want Samsung Pay otherwise the Pixel 2XL almost had
me giving up the stylus.

If it doesn't come with the right boot loader I'll list it back on eBay and get one that does.
I don't buy phones often because it takes me 80 hours to get one the way I need it. Once I was able to get a phone with a stylus, and I could run line-of-business software, the Touch Pro2, it would be hard for me to give up the stylus. The Touch Pro2 was simply a Pocket PC and you could wipe it and install any operating that had drivers on it, including Android. It could emulate anything, including an iPhone. I'd still have a Windows phone if they made one but Balmer trashed it and started putting Zune on phones with Windows Phone and then it lost it's entire software base, including the Word, Excel, and Outlook that was baked in, and took Nokia down with it. That is what brought Android out of obscurity. I didn't move to Android until the Note 3 because it was the first point in time that Android had enough competent software for line-of-business apps, and the reason I didn't go IOS is because the same apps in the iPhone didn't work right, and I couldn't get where I needed to go, with call recording being one. It was also the latest I could get root. With root we can do site surveys, see what the bands are in a certain area, troubleshoot networks, etc., so we will keep the Verizon Note 3s for that purpose as they have no resale since they cannot be added to the Verizon network after the first of the year because they don't have LTE-A like the Note 4. The Note 8 and the Note 9 are the only ones with the bands needed to be able to work on a variety of networks around the world, that has a stylus, can still record calls if running Oreo, and has Samsung Pay. There is no advantage for me to buy a Samsung without a stylus. The problem with the Note 8 is battery life and it would probably come with an older battery. For those reasons the Note 9 is the only duck in my pond. I couldn't use a Note 10 if someone gave it to me.

ADB access for most is about over, and Verizon is the name of a new virus that works around your OTA protections. I'm going to go with what Jammol stated on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...9-snapdragon-oreo-verizon-wont-t3939073/page2 plus this video for phone settings: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...9-snapdragon-oreo-verizon-wont-t3939073/page2 plus install Package Disabler Pro+.

I have a Note 9 on the way, setting up my plan, and ordering and downloading. The phone is my mini business laptop. It has my mail, schedule, software to support people remotely, tracks my time, takes notes for my calls, etc. I don't use it for movies, games, or music. What turns my ears red is when they make changes that cost me thousands of dollars in lost history and change things to where I lose business functionality. If I find the guy who did Pie and took away my call recording, I'm going to revoke his social media accounts, take the transmission out of his car to keep him safe and from breaking the law with any inadvertent traffic violations, and board up all of the windows on his house to protect his privacy. I know what's best for his life. BTW, I'm Jack

I looked around and even found a great condition pixel 2 XL that somebody was willing to trade for my Samsung Galaxy S8 but I was nervous about a used phone, and luckily once I called my carrier to check if the pixel would run on their Network they told me it didn't. I am with Eastlink Mobility in Eastern Canada and their firmware customer code or abbreviation is esk. They stated that they sell only the phones that work on their Networks (many) and phones purchased elsewhere would not work on there modem bands and would only be able to purchase second hand phone that they carry in store so that I would be okay and I would be able to connect to their towers. To me this sounds like a bunch of bul****, there are many many bands and Eastlink Mobility doesn't even own any Towers. The service they provide is through rented Towers from Bell Canada and Telus Canada and Rogers Canada. This being the case I would assume any phone that runs on any of these Networks should be able to be hooked up and used with my current provider without me having to purchase a brand new phone. I think it is a money grab and also all the phones that they do sell currently are not able to be rooted. Very small selection. Only newest Note 9+ Galaxy S10, iPhone X, and some cheapos that liik ancient.
FOR $150 a month I get...
Unlimited nationwide long distance calling. Unlimited local calling 24/7. I have insurance that covers everything even if I dropped it on concrete face down and stepped on it getting out of the car to pick it up and shattered the screen rendering the phone useless (whick I did a week after buying the note 9) God that sucked/was dumb. This insurance does not expire ever as long as I keep it on my plan. It doesn't matter the reason the phone is damaged so it's a pretty good insurance plan. I also get 7gb of mobile data each month and unlimited sms/mms but I'm still wondering if WiFi calling will be activated. I see through package Disabler there is a WiFi calling apk. why it'd be there if there was no intention on using it 1 day, but I'm sure Eastlink will be last to get it available. Google pay & Samsung pay are not compatible with my bank/country/provider so their just wasting space. I have bixby turned off atm. Single press - settings, double press - game launcher, & long hold press is screenshot. Quite handy, I used button remapper & setup on pc was a breeze. Wish me luck finding a "looked after" (female owner sosted prob never rooted) pixl 2.
I'm thinking I'll keep this note & use very lightly with my screen cover & Otterbox & sell before I'll lose out on resale when it becomes too low, meaning I'll sell if a good option appears & I can profit off mine still due to keeping EVERYTHING it came with. & in mint shape. Carrier unlocked but I think they have to unlock if requested now due to a law passe. The must provide you with free code. I have my Box, manual/warrenty, no scratches, all oem parts which most are still unopened or have never been used even, and in mint condition. Never been messed with or buggy issues. I'll keep my eyes open for pixel 2 but I'm pretty sure I'll run into the previous issue I mentioned. Denial by carrier.
