I know most of us (if not all) keep looking for that perfect tempered glass screen protector for our phones (not to mention that it has to be curved of course).
Today I received my Skinomi Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge tempered glass screen protector, and I'd be more than happy in sharing my review of the product.
Packaging:
Packaging is retail. I pre-ordered from their website directly (rather not deal with Amazon), and I got a cool coupon that saved me 25% .
What comes included is your screen protector, fiber cloth, alcohol cleaning cloth and dust lifter screen.
Installation:
I'm going to be completely honest here; This is my first time installing a tempered glass screen protector. Much less a dry installation. I've always used invisible shield for my previous devices so I was expecting a hassle. This was by far the easiest installation I've ever done. Super easy!
Fit:
The fit is not as great as I'd expect it to be. It doesn't cover the phone fully on the edges, you can still see some small space that's left uncovered (I've attached pictures for your leisure). I'm sure that I've installed it as best as humanely possible (actually quite proud of that haha).
The capacitive buttons on the bottom or probably my main issue; The cover completely warps them. The cutouts on the glass protector don't match the cutouts on the phone itself. This causes the buttons to look weird and warped when they light up. I personally don't care (now if this is a mistake and someone from Skinomi is reading this, then please reach out!), the case does what it's supposed to do, but I feel that it makes the fact you have a glass protector on your phone obvious.
Feel:
The protector feels great, you really can't tell there's something on top of your screen. Touch sensibility is weird around the middle towards the left edge on my particular protector (I do have to press slightly harder in order to get a response), but I'm having that after 24 hours that problem clears out.
Final thoughts:
I actually like the protector overall. It's not bad for the price I payed (although I was expecting a better fit for the buttons and a better fit around the screen itself). I'm guessing that as long as the screen protector doesn't come off like the Spigen one I would consider myself happy.
I know the pictures are not the greatest, but If you guys want better ones or different angles or something just let me know!
Hope this helps!

Yes they are.
I own this as well. My personal take on this is 7/10. Only thing that bothers me is the edges.... How they aren't as sensitive

Exactly my thoughts. If the edges were more sensitive, I wouldn't care about the rest.
I'm very impressed with this tempered glass. SGP use to be my favorite for all my devices but I'll start considering Skinomi tempered glass going forward.
There are some sensitivity issues on the left side but hopefully that will go away once the glass settles in and will report back if it does or doesn't go away later in the week. What I mean is that I would have to press harder than normal.
Here is a pic with the glass before installation. I just realized I still had the clear plastic covering my lens after I took this picture and will add a few more pictures with it being installed once I borrow a colleagues camera phone.
It looks so beautiful once installed and no bubbles like the SGP curved one. TBH, hyped went away once I started to get sensitivity issues on the left hand side and hopefully it will go away after a few days.
EDIT: after re-aligning the glass, I don't have any sensitivity issues anymore. You might have to re-aligning it a few times if you're off. Don't worry, you won't lose any stickyness. This tempered glass is worth buying IMHO.
It seems that all currently available on AliExpress (at least) tempered glass protection are flawed, because of:
1- Protectors that covers the body in full, and has some black areas: has actually glue only on the black non-transparent zones, but nothing on display area it self (so only display ages, upper and lower parts has glue), this makes it rubbish, because it will not stick well to the screen, one or two gaming sessions and it will end in recycle bin.
2- Fully transparent one, with full screen coverage: because 1+5 has 2.5D screen, those covers will not stick well on phone edges since tempered glass is rigid, this maybe can be used only with covers that overlap edges of the screen also.
3-Fully transparent one that don't cover all of the screen: those usually stick well, but only if they left about 5mm on each edge uncovered! I believe it is clear that such a gap ruins the protective purpose of the tempered glass, aside the ugly look due to gaps. (Again, having an edge overlapping cover could make it look better)
So it seems the only practical option for now is to use usual non glass protection unfortunately.
If I missed something or you have some suggestions please let me know..Some manufacturers claims that there protector is 4D, what means that it should solve all above issues, i didn't try those yet, anybody tested them?
I am regretting removing original 1+5 protection
As I bought and still use an Orzly tempered glass protector I concur with your analysis at this time. When I first applied the Orzly is was perfect without the issues some experienced but after 3+ weeks the sides must have lifted slightly due to my bumper case and dust particles got underneath next to the left/right buttons. Since then I've been religiously looking for an alternate that passes the case test but none so far have come to light.
I like the feel of the tempered glass so much that I've resisting going back to the film/plastic alternatives which I had always used in the past. I'm even considering going naked on the screen, relying on Gorilla Glass 5, but continue with a bumper case. Or the reverse, by using an Orzly but with no bumper case as I already have a dBrand skin applied. None of those options seem all that appealing. The one protector that seems to work with a 2.5D screen is the Galaxy 8's Whitestone Dome Glass but it's a crazy expensive $41USD and difficult to apply. I'm not sure even if a OnePlus 5 version was available I'd spend that much money.
I haven't had any luck with any tempered glass., due to point 2 which has been raised:
2- Fully transparent one, with full screen coverage: because 1+5 has 2.5D screen, those covers will not stick well on phone edges since tempered glass is rigid, this maybe can be used only with covers that overlap edges of the screen also.

After reading all of the reviews I decided just to leave the plastic one on until someone gets their act together and offers a proper tgsp for the OP5
Sent from my OnePlus5 using XDA Labs
Agreed with OP and all of above. I had and still have the Orzly TG protector on, but dust underneath. I want to go back to the usual plastic ones, but don't know which one covers as well/much as the original one that came with the phone. Any recommendations?

Im still waiting for my Nilkin glass protector to arrive (it's almost been a month, sigh)
If this one has the same issue as the ones I've tried before it (lack of adhesive around the edges), I'm going to try and go back to using plastic screen protectors.
I don't want to use my device without one, but I also hate how these glass protectors don't fully adhere to the screen around the sides (including top and bottom)

The YouTube channel you mention is also my favorite choice for screen protector info for the Oneplus 5. He always tests the protectors with various cases. His branding of the channel can get annoying but his market coverage is excellent and vast. With the plethora of tempered screen protectors its your choice for an accompanying case that often makes a big difference in your satisfaction. Here is the Big unBox - Biuzko review.
One thing I noticed is when the Big unBox applied the Official OnePlus 5 tgsp video it had lots of bubbles on the edges that he said couldn't be removed while I watched XDA's TK review and his application looked perfect with TK giving it a thumbs up. In the comment section of that review TK said all was well even after a month of usage. I was surprised as the Official tgsp has garnered horrible reviews and comments in the XDA Oneplus 5 accessories section. The most consistent criticism of the Official tgsp is that it cuts off a tiny fraction of the screen. In fact, so far my research indicates all of the "Full Adhesive", "Full coverage" tgsp cut off part of the screen. Personally I think the reason they have a black line on the edges is to hide inevitable bubbles due to the curved edge. The thicker the tempered glass the wider the side black stripes (e.g. Orzly versus Official).
Here is the criteria I'm using in selecting a replacement for my Orzly tgsp and cheap bumper case. Note that I've already installed a dBrand skin so that skews my criteria somewhat.
Tempered Glass screen protector:
- Must have full adhesive (not just top/bottom and side adhesion) and full coverage
- Would prefer, but am a tiny bit flexible on, part of the screen being cut off (limit is that not one pixel of the notification bar's clock is trimmed)
- Must have an oleophobic coating
Case:
- Needs to be as non intrusive as possible adding grip but not greatly ruining the sleekness of the phone
- Uses a minimalist design and/or clear materials so as not to obstruct viewing of the dBrand skin I've installed
- With the case on the buttons (power and volume rocker) must not be difficult to press
So far my research has me leaning towards the Official OnePlus 5 or Biuzko tgsp with a Rhinoshield Crashguard case. My one issue is that the Rhinoshield reviews always mention how difficult the volume rocker buttons are to press. Here is the video that has me leaning in that direction as is seems to best address my criteria
OnePlus 5 best case/protector setup
I'll being doing more reading and searching today hoping to find the unicorn of tgsp/case combinations. The dust under my Orzly is driving me mad but the feel and responsiveness of its surface has me rejecting a film/plastic protector alternative.
I'm using the Biuzko as well with the Tudia MERGE case no problems.
The trick is to first put OP5 in the case, THEN place the screen protector on. It fits perfectly, and you can't mess up the alignment since it falls right in. Then I just try to put pressure on the sticky parts for a few minutes.
I've had no problems for 3 weeks now.
I installed mine the same way, but I'm using the op5 carbon fiber case.

Hello,
I recommend you the plastic screen protectors from GadgetShieldz. I made a review about it on another post on xda but to summarize, it's a bit difficult to apply but then it's great. The screen looks good and it's cheap ^^ highly recommend.
FYI, I was struggling with TGSP for the OP5 and I just gave up. There is no good alternative atm.

Skinomi makes a wet application protector in both clear and matte. I posted pics of the matte version here. Since that post, I've experienced no scratches or orange peel effect. It's also great for no fingerprints.
You can always get the Nillkin H+ Pro, but only if you are using a spigen case or otterbox. Right now I am using the Spigen Rugged Armor with Nillkin H+ Pro and the gap between the glass and the case is around 1 mm (i would say 1.5 mm if I have to be more accurate). The Otterbox case is even better but I find it too bulky, tried it once for an hour and I did not enjoy it, but some of you may like it.
Few words about the Nillkin H+ Pro.
I know there are few variants of the Nillkin glass and I have tried all of them in the past. In my opinion the best glass is exactly the H+ Pro even tho it is a 1 dollar more expensive. The glass has zero rainbow effect or halo effect, it is 99 to 100% clear. It has amazing orleophobic coating. My Honor 8 has the same glass for 6 months now and it is flawless. I am going to change my nillkin glass with the official 3D tempered glass but only because I received the rhinoshield bumper. Otherwise I would not change my nillkin. You are going to get used to the small gap in a week or so.
Don't leave the phone without a glass.
I just applied mine, best screen protector I ever had, pure quality. Quote me on that
I love the official OnePlus screen protector, it's premium & looks good. Who ever made this thread is straight up wrong. The one he recommended is no Bueno, the glass part doesn't have enhesive. Look I am a OnePlus 5 conisuer, the screen protector is fantastic ?
I have siegen case. Can I buy the original screen protector from oneplus store with no problems? Or can I suggest me something with dust proof and oil proof ?
I've been thinking of getting something to protect my precious and the original plastic one has lots of scratches on it.
so Tempered glass or Hydrogel film?
I've been doing research on this question too. It's like a mixed reviews. But a commonly seen answer is that they regret getting the hydro gel version and stick to the conventional tempered glass as some buyers indicated after a few days, the edge came off peeling and trapping dust while some others has high static attracting dust and easily scratch.
I usually prefer Tempered glass.
Always glass, clarity and feel always superior to film.
A good brand would be Nillkin - I buy this off Ali express. The oleophobic coating is great and you can actually feel the smoothness difference vs a $2 cheapo glass protector.
http://s.aliexpress.com/rQje6z6R
I have bought it for multiple previous devices and am waiting for my Mate 10 glass delivery.
It is fragile though, have to be careful not to place it on the table face down with any sand or grit, it can scratch. Usually I have a case with a bit of a lip to protect it.
Obviously it can crack if you drop it also.

What brand did you get and does it cover the whole screen?
Ozero 2 pack from Amazon. Not a bad glass. No rainbow on the screen just a little thick. Like someone else said it makes you feel like your pressing into a hole with the thicker glass. They should taper the protector around the navigation button to make it feel better. Yeah covers all the screen. Except the bottom of the navigation button.

Already got mine more than a week ago. Bought off aliexpress.
Unfortunately this time the glass is ever so slightly less than the full width of the phone - my P9 Plus Nillkin glass was edge to edge of the screen. About 0.5mm less than each side of the screen. I suspect this is because the no side bezels makes it hard to extend the glass all the way to the sides otherwise it might be non compatible with cases.
Not too irritating but definitely noticeable. Small halo effect as usual.
But overall the smoothness and the oleophobic coating definitely trumps the factory plastic protector. Still worth the buy.

Today i tried KONIX glass protector, (i guess this is just a generic glass, packed into some brand - just like many of screen protector in the market)
Just like any other 2.5D glass protector, it wont be able to cover the screen edge
But it still fit quite well, and the touch response is unaffected, or even better than on plastic (included) one
Glass cut is nicely rounded without sharp edge though, so i think this one is well manufactured

Thanks... Wanted to see the one that @Cccmachins has because I ended up ordering the same Ozero TP... Guess I'll have to wait till I get it to see and decide if that works or if I need to keep looking.
The ozero just has a black frame around it so it just hides the edges of the screen completely, so you are actually losing a tad bit of screen real estate. I also bought one on Amazon that does not have the frame like the ozero and the entire edge is lifted up all the way around my screen. I think I'd prefer the plastic ones and just replace them from time to time...

That sucks... The tempered glass screen protector manufacturers seem to have a hard time making them fit perfectly on these curve edge phones... It's either to small or not sticking on the edges...

Hello friend, as a seller, we have talked to countless manufacturers to find the perfect screen protectors for our clients. As now phones screen bigger and bigger, resolution values are higher also. It is so necessary to get a high quality screen protector to protect the high valued smart phones. And the meanwhile, the screen protector cannot affect the touch sensitivity of phone screen , cannot decrease the brightness of the phone screen. So really it is not an easy solution.
Anyhow, we used to struggle which one is better? Tempered glass or hydrogel screen protector? Tempered glass is more thickness to 0.33mm, while hydrogel usually under 0.2mm, tempered glass cannot be full screen protector, while hydrogel can be full screen protector. Which is such a pity tempered glass cannot be full screen. Still except this flaw, other aspects is much much better than hydrogel protector. So we stick to tempered glass screen protector for Huawei Mate 10.
Here is what we prepare for our clients.
Flos®Huawei Mate 10 Transparent Full Protection Tempered Glass Screen Protector HD Anti-Scratch-[2 Pcs]
And we offer express shipping to Europe/USA within 1 week at 2usd shipping fees.
Also we are on Amazon for Europe.

You know,
Sometimes its hard to trust a manufacturer, who despite promise the fine quality of their product, yet still manage to slip a typo on their commercial material,
Your images misspelled "tempered" as "temepred" and it doesn't sound convincing at all for me :silly:

This is in fact not the problem with the tempered glass. It is due to the curved glass on redmi 4x which is called as 2.5D glass which will be slightly bent at the edges. When a traditional tempered glass is applied to the screen, as the glass is flat at the center, the tempered glass adheres perfectly, while the ends are bent but the tempered glass is not. This is the reason the tempered glass always leaves air gaps at the edges. I would prefer the old school model plastic screen protector that is available on mi.com for our beloved redmi 4x. Just give it a try and you won't even feel like you have a screen protector on the screen. The only intention in this screen protector is to protect the screen from scratches that are likely to appear due to object playing around in the pockets along with the phone. This screenguard will not protect the screen from drops. You will definitely need to rely on your luck about breaking the glass from waist height of an average height guy.
thanks for your reply
i know about the 2.5D (or rounded edges) of the Redmi4x, but in my case the glass manufacturer circumvented to this problem by making protective glasses slightly smaller than the phone glass like 3mm on each border, so beside the increased difficulty to position it, it should have skipped the edges radius. But even with the 3mm skip i still had non sticky parts. (sku 209626001 from gearbest)
Indeed plastic models should minimise this issue but they are so soft ! After one week in the pocket with scratching things like keys they look so bad that they are already good to be replaced. So except if some technological revolution happened for plastic screen protector since the Mi2/S time, i think i'll live without screen protection at all

Ok thanks
Im using one of that "hybrid" screen protectors, the center is made of tempered glass and the edges made of some durable material, one claims for carbon fibers, the other for Kevlar. sorry i do not have a link for what i bought, but it looks exactly like the one in that link : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pcs-lot-For-Xiaomi-Redmi-4X-3D-Carbon-Fiber-Screen-Film-Anti-Scratch-Tempered-Glass-Screen/32821140687.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.29.uQibKQ&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4_10152_10151_10065_10344_10068_10345_10342_51102_10343_10340_10341_10609_10541_10084_10083_10307_10312_10313_10059_10314_10534_100031_10604_10103_10605_10594_10107_10142,searchweb201603_12,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=72b8e48c-88c1-4470-9f38-f193a555b5e0-4&algo_pvid=72b8e48c-88c1-4470-9f38-f193a555b5e0&rmStoreLevelAB=5
it comes with colored edges, gold, black and white so you can use black or gold on white phone and vice versa. because the edges made of flex material, it sits perfect on the screen and have a nice curve edges all round. my have 98% coverage of the original screen, there is a 0.2 mm of gap between the two. in use on my device for about two month's now, having two falls on asphalt from about 70 cm, right on the corner, nothing happens yet. no scratches yet, as i say, i don't have a link for what i bought, i remember it was an unknown Chinese brand. hope it helps.

Hi buczek,
have you tried the mentioned above FlexibleGlass? What are your thoughts on it?
there are much different quality of tempered glass in the market. some of tempered glass screen protector is with poor adhesive glue, it's easy to come off. some tempered glass screen protector is easy to be broken. our company supply high quality tempered glass screen protector, it's with high adhesive A/B glue, up to 9H hardness tempered glass material, anti scratch and anti shatter, protect your screen effectively.

Here in New Delhi I am able to get a variety of glass based screen protectors costing between ₹15-₹50 per piece. Yes they aren't as effective as those super costly ₹800 one 's but still are very good. It's just that they don't come in any fancy packaging and cleansing wipes
use nano glass,its good fit
Can anyone recommend a tempered glass that has not an insane amount of reflection effect? I bought one from a seller on Ali and it is just like a mirror, making it more annoying to use and harder to see in the sun. ali or ebay

Seconded.
The same happened to me. Also it gets dirty very easily and make the screen significantly darker.
I use these. They fit perfectly.

There's no quality screen protectors made from glass available for this model. I already spent like 50$ on them and none of them lasted long and all of them was defective in one or other way. The first one I bought (from Mocolo) with colored edges did come off on it's own after about a week of very light use. Do yourself a favor and listen to my advice... Buy some plastic screen film instead of this cheap crap and save yourself a lot of nerves and money.
Does anyone make a clear film wet applied screen protector that is a compromise between a fill coverage and one that has a 2.5mm gap on the edges?
The current Skinomi one I have is similar to the Armour suit and illumishield ones. Had a 2.5mm gap all the way around. Was hoping perhaps someone made a version with a 1.5mm gap.
I found the full coverage wet applied ones need to be 100% aligned else a side or edge or corner won't stick down due to the film being half a mil on the frame thus rendering that area to stay down.
But having said that , I've managed the back clear full coverage on mine no problems.

I had Spigen film protectors and they seemed to have pretty full coverage. Easy to apply and by the next day no bubbles or lifted corners. Using Whitestone dome now so can't measure any gap on the Spigen, but I was happy with it.
I have a screenpeel / orange knight... grrr (tourettes) "Screen knight".
Like having a transparent orange stuck to your phone. Terrible.
Like running your finger over a cats tongue. Don`t recommend.
The ArmorSuit screen protectors are very smooth to the touch...until you use the SPen on them LOL Then its track mark city.
I think Skinomi, ArmorSuit, IllumiShield, etc are all cut the same. They each seem to have a full coverage and two version of the caee friendly. One case friendly covers a little more screen than the other.
Phantomskinz has the best quality wet protectors IMO. Thickest, clearest I've been able to find. Yes, they still have a bit of orange peel look, but much less than any others. And I find its more resistant to S Pen damage. That said, they're the hardest to apply and most expensive. Customer service could be better. I also dont like the back skin because the sides, top, and bottom are attached to the same piece.
For the back protector I go with BestSkinEver since the sides, top, and bottom are separate pieces from the back itself. I usually don't bother with those pieces though. They are the best compromise between cost and quality and customer service is excellent.
Both companies offer case friendly front protectors, if that's your thing.
