How to install Magisk on Fire 5th gen? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used the SuperTool method to root and block OTA. My daughter loves playing Pokemon Go, and since the tablet is rooted now it won't work. I have been told installing Magisk is the best way to get around it. In order to do this I think I need a custom recovery and I need to unroot as Magisk roots when you install it. I'm just worrying that it may not be compatible with the Fire and I don't want to brick it. I am on 5.1.2 bootloader, so I guess I need to install FlashFire then try to install Magisk?
There is no tutorial on how to do this specifically for the Fire, so I'm tempted not to touch it and just tell her she is out of luck.

I would go with your gut (just say 'no'). Magisk may or may not know how to root a 5th gen Fire and FlashFire is not a custom recovery. Initial sniff tests detect a foul odor. In addition, the device lacks a physical GPS chip which makes playing the game a challenge. You can go with 'mock' locations but that's a hassle and takes the fun out IMHO.

The weird thing is that the app works on it and is downloadable as compatible. I didn't think it had a GPS chip, but I can't figure out how it knows she is walking, but it does around the house and around the yard while she is on wifi. That one has still baffled me, but not enough to care to find out how it is still working.

Google Location Services 'maps' AP (WiFi) locations and does a pretty decent job approximating current location based on signal strength. Results are even better in AP dense areas like neighborhoods, apartment complexes, etc.

[Q] Found Kindle Fire, are they tracked?

So a guy from work found an iPad the other day and when he tried to use it apparently it was tracked and now he's being charged with theft. Can the Kindle Fire be tracked the same way? I found one and I'm just wondering if I should even try rooting it or connecting it to the internet. I didn't steal it, there's just no way for me to get it back to the owner seeing as IDK who that is. No point in wasting a perfectly good device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You should be fine. iOS has that tracking app and combined with Cloud, allows you to track the device through Internet. Kindle devices have no such app, although 3rd-party apps from the Play Store can also do this. As long as you've got no such app installed, it's safe.

Alright so I did a factory reset on the device, but it still wont let me register it. Am I going to have to root it in order to "unlock" it or is there another way?
You don't need to register. It only allows you to connect to Amazon services. You can import your own media and still use it just fine. Or root and install CM10.1, then you don't need Amazon at all.
As I know, Amazon can make it "disabled", so you cannot use it if the owner reported it as lost.
Only the way you can use it is flash 2nd bootloader and TWRP, then flash CM10.1.

safe to say 6.0 won't make it any easier to root? should I wait?

Hi there, I recently purchased an t710 which I upgraded to 5.1.1. I'm wondering if there is any reason to wait rooting this device and tripping knox. I purchased an extended warranty for accidental etc from squaretrade so I'm not too worried.
What do you think? Also this is the first touch device I ever owned and I've never owned any smart devices other than a blackberry curve 8330. :victory: I am however quite savvy with computers in general. I've strayed from these devices due to high cost and high toss rate.
Couldn't hurt to throw in some app recommendations too! I sure would like to customize a bit more than samsung is allowing me to.
In addition to my original question, what's the best root and image available for my galaxy tab s2 t710 currently? I wasn't quite sure as there are a few. Does flashing one of the images wipe everything?
Also, as I understand it, many knox features have to be paid for with a regular subscription or something and the applications are not fantastic currently. Am I wrong?
Feel free to add anything you think I should know, also app recommendations would be great. Thanks!
Well, I took the plunge anyway, but I didn't do a backup with TWRP, everything is working but I forgot. Besides knox status, I'm assuming there's a way to undo this correct? like factory reset? Or did I screw it up (If I need to that is.)

Knox status doesn't totally matter its more for secure environments like corporate or government to know that a device has been compromised.
Samsung and carriers often still warranty devices that have the Knox flag tripped.
To answer your question though, there is no way to undo a Knox flag.
Hey, I said besides knox status lol. I meant since I didn't backup in twrp before flashing root is there still a way to restore default firmware if necessary? Also how do I disable the securitylogger? People have mentioned it on the forums but I can't seem to find how to do that, thanks.
The only adverse effect I have noted so far was having to re-enter my wifi password.
Can anyone recommend a decent busybox? I installed this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en but is it the best one truly? The only other root program I have installed is AdAway. Actually, any decent app recommendations would be great, thanks!

For what reason do you need to install busybox? Unless you have a real need for it why install it and cause more issues?
I can't think of a real single time I've ever needed busy box.
Xposed, Root explorer and Titanium backup are the 3 apps I use on every device I have.
auto rotate suddenly stopped working after I rebooted the tablet, I tried doing a factory reset but that hasn't fixed it, it won't go into landscape mode. Any ideas to fix this?
I just rebooted it through TWRP instead of inside the system and that fixed it, why the heck wouldn't a factory reset? anyone ever hear of this issue before?
A slap on the back has been known to fix it.

Avoiding 5.1.2

Hey everyone! I think I just found the best bang for the buck tablet that has some great root development going on. I recently destroyed the display my Galaxy S4 which I had rooted and working quite well for the longest time. I only used the device to game (Clash of Clans rooted with Xmod) and mostly on Wifi. I think the Kindle would be a great replacement and probably at 1/8 of the cost of a another phone or tablet.
2 quick questions before I buy..
1. If I were to buy one today, what are the chances of it not coming with 5.1.2?
2. Once I have rooted my device, how well does Xmodgames and Clash work together? This is more of a questions for my gamers out there.. any suggestions appreciated
I just got mine today and it came with 5.0.0 on it. The moment I connected it to wifi it started to download a new patch, so I disconnected immediately. Now I'm just wondering what I should do next, but at least I still just have 5.0.0 on it
Use the SuperTool to block the OTA updates before you connect the Fire to the internet! Then you are free to root, flash new OS etc.
It all depends what you want to do with it, but if you want to install a custom rom, this is one option:

I bought it from Amazon. During it's initial setup I connected it to wireless and then it said it was going to update. I was worried about it updating to 5.1.2, so I actually reset the tablet before it could complete the update. Then turned the wireless off.
What I found though was that kingroot wouldn't work. So I let the first update complete once, and it updated to 5.1.1, and said it was now ready to update to 5.1.2. That's the point where I ran rootjunky's supertool and disabled OTA updates and the system update screen. This effectively killed the 5.1.2 update, even though it had already downloaded in the background and just needed me to restart the tablet. I then went ahead and installed google apps and the various other things noted in the tips and tricks thread.
ymmv, I kind of bodged my install. Widget's don't work, but I believe that may be a problem with Fire OS for which there is no easy fix
That's weird, bought mine at the start of March, from Amazon, got here with 5.1.1.
So chances are there is no 5.1.2 currently, probably they are just getting rid of old stock but maybe soon in a couple months 5.1.2 will be loaded on all of them, so better "act now".

if it was on 5.0.X just needed to boot into fastboot mode and boot twrp with fastboot.exe

Wanting to root my 5.3.1.0 Fire Tablet

I've got this nice fresh tablet ready to be rooted and it's sitting on 5.3.1.0. I've removed it's ability to connect to wi-fi to prevent it from updating, of course disabling wi-fi.
I'm concerned where the status is now on what to use and how to go about properly using it? The last time I've tried this method, I bricked my tablet. Yes, I tried rolling back a 5.3.2.0 tablet to 5.1 and it got hard bricked. So, lesson learned there as to what no to do.
I'd like to avoid the same fate with this one. I'm thinking I'd like to have CyanogenMod on it or perhaps Kingroot. Something where I don't have to tolerate Amazon's horrendous ads, it's bad appstore and it's horrible Silk browser. Anything would do, really.
I've gotten RootJunky's tool to flash the tablet for either of the options above. I know how to go about it's process, but I'd like to know what I can get specifically with 5.3.1.0.

FireOS 5.3.1.0 is rootable which, with the proper advance preparation, permits flashing any custom ROM for this device. At present only one is actively/fully supported: Fire Nexus. CyanogenMod 12.1 (CM 12.1) has been discontinued. Keep reading through the forums to get an idea what needs to be done. Might start with the index: https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/index-amazon-fire-2015-t3210485

Living Without Root

First, I'm just in shock t here's a phone that can't be rooted. It just blows my mind and really, I'm saddened by it. It totally defeats the original idea behind Android - a device that people can root, voiding their warranty, develop - A lot of Amateur dev'd features have been incorporated into Android as it's grown over the years, and modify. Even the Judicial system said end users have the right to do what they want to their device and void the warranty at their own discretion.
However, even if it does ever actually come out and even if VZW DOES carry it and even if I could afford it, which I doubt, I really like th Z force, from what I've seen and read.
So how are you guys who have always used rooted, mod'd devices living without root??
I guess I can learn to give up most of my root required apps, begrudgingly, but TB?? How could I ever transfer my apps and data (MUST have data transferred too) without root??
What about bloatware? It's like giving up sex for me to give up root. Aaaauuuggghhhhh

Well for me the biggest difference is I used to use Playstation controllers, so I had to switch to a gamesir g3s which is the same size and shape but does not require root. Nothing else I do requires root so Im perfectly fine not having it. I miss mhl far more than root since I used it a lot with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with chrome remote desktop, but I bought a laptop to eliminate that.
I'm really missing the following apps:
Titanium Backup
Ad Blockers that actually work well (AdAway, MinMinGuard, UnbelovedHosts)
Viper4Android
File Browsers that can access the entire filesystem (allowing me to debloat stock apps, among other things).
I can partially work around the ad blockers thing by spending a few extra bucks to purchase some apps that I don't use often enough to have already warranted a purchase, and using DNS66 for non-secure uses (a less than optimal solution, since I can't trust some random server on the internet which could theoretically hit me with a MITM attack...I turn it off whenever security is a concern).
There really is no good workaround for TiBu, V4A, or root file explorers.
But the benefits are that I can now use Android Pay, and don't need to fight with SnapChat every time I need to log back in.
The negatives far outweigh the benefits, and I don't want to ever buy a non-rootable phone again. GFY Verizon.

That's what I wanted to hear. Guess I'll have to pass on this one. No Backup, or V4A is not acceptable for me
The only complaint that I have is that some of the pre-installed apps are not able to be uninstalled. theres 4? or so that I can't get rid of
This is my first non-rootable phone and I have mixed feelings about that. As a stock platform, the Z Force is a great phone and does almost all that I could ask for from a pocket computer. I love having stock Android and like having WiFi calling, though it's a pain to switch back and forth: go into airplane mode, then switch WiFi on to make WiFi calls. Of course, you have to remember to turn airplane mode off when you get back into service.
I also miss Titanium Backup and the ability to completely remove apps I have no interest in having on my phone. All things being equal, I find that I can live without root on this phone. Battery life is great, it's fast, and it gets frequent and regular updates.
Really, no root?
So I just as well stay with my old rooted Droid Turbo. I came here thinking its time I look for a newer Motorola phone, that I can root.
What if I buy an unlocked Z Force? Can it be rooted then?
It seems that the regular Moto Z can be rooted according to this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/guide-how-to-root-moto-z-supersu-t3551113
So why can the Force not also be rooted?
Stuck with VZW Malware
I'd like to add to my original list of complaints about not having root.
The topic: AppFlash
Verizon now pushes the AppFlash malware onto every Android device. Without root, it can not be removed properly. I tried to disable the app via Settings, and it "uninstalled" an "update" so now AppFlash doesn't appear in the Apps list, but I still get messages that "AppFlash has crashed" multiple times per day. I work in an area with minimal cell service and no GPS service, and I strongly supect that it's AppFlash that's trying to spy on me, which is causing my phone to be constantly seeking location via GPS and draining my battery. It's only the last month or two that I've noticed it being this bad, and that does seem to correspond with the time that people started reporting the latest wave of AppFlash installations.
Make no bones about it, this is spyware, pushed by Verizon, that tracks your location, calls home to report everything ELSE they've spied on you as well, drains battery rapidly, and can not be removed!
This was the final straw, Verizon. I'm going to move back to iPhone (at least VZW can't crap up iOS too badly, like they can with Android) and then convince my wife to finally fire those VZW bums and switch to T-Mobile or Google Fi.

Haha, I know, right? Reading comprehension can be hard.
As I said, my plan was to FIRST move back to an iPhone, THEN switch to T-Mobile OR Google Fi (the implication being, that when changing networks, one must obviously either have or obtain compatible hardware). Unfortunately, in my area only VZW has reliable 4G coverage without dead zones in the places where we need service the most. The wife has put her foot down about switching networks for the time being.
At least my iPhone, while older, still has the most recent version of iOS and is unencumbered by Verizon's malware. It's a reasonable compromise at the moment.
Since Z Force seems to be non-rootable, does it mean that camera2 api support level on the phone cannot be improved?
Or is there any way to enable Camera2 API Without Root on this phone?
