Will they let us keep it and refund us and make us eligible for an upgrade, like some Verizon customers have stated?

Let you keep it AND refund you? Not very likely. And since every Note 7 in the field is a litigation ticking time bomb, I doubt they'd want you to keep it either.
I've railed about T-Mobile's horrible customer service throughout this ordeal. But the fact is: T-Mobile is the middle man here. Morally speaking they hold an obligation to their customers. Legally, not so much. That said, I don't see them doing much that Samsung won't reimburse them for.

Verizon isn't letting you keep the phone.. they're telling you to ship it to Samsung and letting Samsung be responsible for the return of devices. If owners decide to keep it, then I'm not sure what happens after that but I'm pretty sure it won't be a free phone.

I just checked T-Mobile and Verizon's website. Their instructions are pretty much identical. Bring the phone to the store for either an exchange or refund. It's not surprising that Verizon is more ****ed up about what to do than T-Mobile is.
http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/
Found this out at a TMO store when the first recall happened. IF your Note 7 was "lost or stolen" you'd have to pay the $175 deductible BUT that deductible went towards the cost of the replacement phone...let that sink in for a minute. Of course your "lost or stolen" phone would be blacklisted on the Tmo Network.
This was only for the Note 7.
BTW if you damaged or damage your Note 7, you do NOT have to pay an insurance fee due to the recall. You get a Get Out Of Jail Free card with this one.

Then maybe Verizon should update their website. I take that as their official word over whatever some flunky customer service rep says.
. Every t mobile Customer should have their EIP closed so it's a free phone yes.... o Checked my t mobile online account today and it says that I paid off my EIP. Called the customer rep and she told me I don't have any EIP. Now it's time for some rooting lol

I already updated to the latest firmware, so rooting is out for me if I keep this phone through any eventuality. Oculus disabled the Gear VR, so I can't use that! Then there is always the small but ever present danger this phone could go up in smoke, probably at the worst possible time! What's more, Engadget says production has been 'permanently' halted, so, if true, no hope of a third 'fixed' version! Nothing else out there that I want, so, so depressing!:crying:

Then there's the chance that they'll shut your service off by the IMEI.
Wow, if this true x-mas coming early this year, I can always use tablet and still have my N3 for phone calls, my only regret is updating the phone to latest firmware (seems I can't learn this lesson, don't fix it if it ain't broke, updates are mostly not for my benefit), I wish I could root it now, more than ever. If I was rooted I could change IMEI to one of my older phones, I'm such an idiot for updating.
Nope, but I can confirm they let you keep EVERYTHING it came with. Just swapped mine for the S7edge again. They gave me the pen as a keepsake...lol, and didn't want the box or anything else.

Not mine. It still showing up on my account.
Eip still showing up on mine too...i dont want a refund lol I want my note 7 with future updates and support. This blows. I really hate downgrading. T mobile did tell me there isn't a time frame for a return/refund. So I'm keeping it at least until the beginning of the year or given a time limit. I also heard they are releasing the s7 edge in blue coral. I make swap the note 7 out for that if we can't keep these notes for free (which I doubt)
but if the phone is lost or stolen, are they going to charge you full price for it? all those returned phones should be going to landfill and I'm not sure they will be paying for shipping back to Samsung, which could be dangerous all by itself. Also, I'm not a lawyer but if they keep charging you for the phone, they keep the sale of the phone valid and possibly liability attached to that sale. If the sale is void and you're instructed to return the phone either to Samsung or Tmo store, then I would think liability would shift to person not following the instructions? I don't know, but we will see soon. I also don't think there should be a time limit, so what happens if I return the phone 6 months from now? In 10 months we should have Note 8 (or whatever rebranding they come up with). I'm going to wait and see, I think I have higher chance of getting injured by texting distracted driver than my phone catching fire and I wouldn't even dream of not driving anymore.

I so agree i am torn to stay with samsung or maybe try the new LG V20 but no other phone out there says damn i need to have that like the Note 7, I am thinking of going to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or just back to Note 5 because at this point i got the Gear fit 2 the Gear VR and the 256gig card was just shipped so best bet is just to stay with Samsung and wait till something better comes out.

I've had exceptional customer service with them through this ordeal. The local store wouldn't refund me for my LED case or Seidio case since it wasn't purchased from their store. I made a call to T-Mobile and told them I wasn't pleased with the experience and was credited on my bill for the two cases - just asked me how much I paid for them.

Hey Everyone, Sorry for the long story, i know verizon is not the best sometimes, but this goes to show that they do try to make it right, and i belive they made it right for me. i figure i would share my story with you guys.
I have been with verizon for 9 months, how i got the bionic, was my droid x2 was bad got a replacement from verizon we'll it was doa, we'll went into a verizon store, told them what happend, they gave me a brand new droid x2, we'll i went online to look at my bill, we'll they changed my contract date without my knowledge and used me early upgrade, i called verizon and talked to a manager and explained since the store made a mistake, can i take it back and get different, he said yes, i went to the store we'll the store, told me no you are sol, and they was thinking it was funny, and so did the the store manager of that verizon store, so i called verizon and explained since they used my early upgrade date and changed my contract date with my knowledge, that if they let me take the droid x2 back to the store and get the bionic since i have went thru all this with that store and them doing this and thinking it was a joke, she said let me talk to a higher up manager and i will call you back she said about an hour, she called back 20 minutes later and said ok we can do this for you, and we will change your contract back to what it was before, so i paid $300 for the Bionic free overnight shipping and no fee's, plus $50 off my monthly bill.
But she told me i had to take it back to the store where this happend, we'll it was 30 minutes from my home 1 way, so an hour trip both way's i went to the store the next day to return i can live with out a phone for a day, so i go in the store again for a 2nd time and told them verizon customer service said, i am here to return this phone and i need proof of return with a manager signature, we'll they told me NO and starting laughing at me for the 2nd time, so i went to my car and called verizon again, and told them what happend, this time verizon told me to wait until i get my Bionic, so i get my Bionic and i take my 3rd trip out there and walked in there and told them i need the manager i waited 45 minutes for the manager, once again i told the manager, i am here to return this phone and i need proof of return with your signature, she told me no, and then she started calling verizon and saying you are wrong we wont take this back, and who ever told you this is wrong, and was laughing at me to my face.
so i go outside while my friend is in the store and they are all texting each other about this and laughing about this, we'll i got on the phone to a verizon customer service rep, explained what happend, and told him how they were telling me i am wrong, and was telling them that it is noted in my account, he put me on hold for 5 minutes.
best part of my day, he said put her on the phone so i handed her the phone and said here is verizon and they want to talk to her they were talking for 30 minutes and the next thing i know i have proof the phone had been returned and she was reading the serial number off to the verizon service rep. i d\dealt with this store for 3 days and countless hours, and alot of driving, but verizon made it right in my eye's by how the customer service rep on the phone handled it.

Very nice post. It's nice to see some people still have patience.
If I had verizon store reps laughing at me while I tried doing something I told would work. I would have filed a formal complaint with Verizon and made sure it was on file. I don't tolerate that stuff.
Verizon has always done well by me when problems have popped up. I have gotten credits on my phone bill of $25 at least twice that I can remember.
I did found out the district manager's number and called and left a message and see if she calls back or not, if not i will being calling verizon and make sure i get it dealt with.

Out of curiosity, what was the reason the manager gave for refusing the return? If you were within your 14day WFG period, they can't refuse unless the device had been damaged in some way.
Also, and this is just FYI, there is nothing for the manager/Rep/anyone to sign to validate the return. Returning anything, either a case or phone or car charger, generates its own order number and is attached to the remarks in the account. The order number is also present on your reciept.

Different phone, same predicament...
Each and every corporate retail location I've dealt with (be it csr, super or actual store gm) they are NOT obligated to accept a return or exchange "IF" said item (be it accessory or phone) has been ordered/purchased over the phone OR online...
Technically the Store does not want the added inventory and technically it is against the terms ajd conditions because as we all know...everything comes down to contracts, and what is exclusionary or inclusionary of which the return of said item falls directly under the aptly ambiguous return/exchange policy which, does NOT differentiate Verizon Wireless entities via the location of the point of sale...
So what does the brick and mortar say? This:
"If you look inside of your box...there is a return shipping label..." then they tell you:
"I can return it for you no problem....but all I'm going to do is out it back in the box, tape and ship it....but I won't return it here because the inventories do not match up," which smells like melted BS...

The only thing that can't be returned to a corporate store is something purchased at an indirect location(i.e. authorized retailer). The reason for this is because you did not purchase the item from Verizon Wireless. You purchased this item from Joe Bob's Cellular Sales who purchased it from Verizon Wireless to sell the product and service to you.

? This does not make sense. Btw, I'm not trying to defend her or anything, just trying to figure out what she was trying to do.
If you receive a replacement phone without a box/battery/backcover, then you have received a warranty replacement phone. Did you pay anything out of pocket for the replacement Droid X2? An early upgrade is exactly what it sounds like. You pay the 2yr pricing of the device, plus $20, and get it right then and there inside the store.
yes i got a received a warranty replacement phone from them in store, no out of pocket cost, but what she did was used my early upgrade and changed my contract date like stated when she did the replacement she changed my account with out my promission or knowledge, and i called verizon and spoke with them and explained to them and they said, the store made a mistake and you can exchange for what ever phone you want, and when i called there they said me no, that did not happen, they did nto use my early upgrade date or change my contract.
but verizon customer service said they did, and i belive verizon customer service over a verizon store any day.
Like i said, I was just curious about your situation because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But at the end of the day all that matters is someone took care of you and you have your shiny new phone.

i add'd above i fixed my error. to explain it better i hopefully made it clearer
Yeah I generally have good luck calling Verizon CS. I broke my Incredible by throwing it on my driveway to prove to my buddy that it wouldn't break. Well it cracked the screen.
So I had a decision to make. 20 bucks for a new screen from ebay. Or 300 for a new Bionic. I chose the Bionic. Called Verizon 20 minutes later, told the rep EXACTLY what happened... And how much I had been drinking. And he told me he would wave the early upgrade fee for me considering my situation. Just wish Verizon would allow in store pickup. I have 2 Verizon corporate stores within a mile of my house. Could have had it Saturday but now I have to wait till tomorrow, possibly Wednesday!
And yes I know throwing my Incredible on the cement was a stupid idea. But I had a lot of Jagermeister in me!
I really wanted this phone but didn't have an upgrade and didn't want to open a new line.
Nice VZW store guy allowed me to open a "new line" with the Bionic and then transferred the phone to my "old line" account. He put in an IMEI or something for an old phone so I didn't require data. It was a family share plan.
I called VZW 2 days later and said I didn't need the second line. The lady on the phone said I can sell my "old feature phone" on ebay...
Took a little work and activation fee cost, but nice little workaround.
My touch screen recently stopped responding altogether. I've had intermittent problems with it, sometimes seeming to be related to whether or not the charger was plugged in (as I've seen some other complaints about this), and sometimes simply inexplicably temporarily stupid. It's been unresponsive entirely for about two weeks now, though. The phone never got wet, bent, dropped, etc.
I called Google's Nexus support and talked to them about it for a while. We did a bunch of stuff over the phone that I deemed entirely unnecessary but did just to placate the customer service rep on the phone with me. I cleared cache, wiped the phone, flashed the latest OTA, basically everything I could do except take it apart while the touchscreen doesn't work. We settled (finally) on needing to RMA the phone.
After creating and setting up the RMA, I was informed that they need to place a $400 on my account while we cross-ship the device. After they checked the device out and the moisture indicator came up clean and whatnot, I'd get my money back. I'm pretty poor, especially given that I have three children, and can't really loan Google $400. I told the rep that if possible, I wanted to simply send them my phone and wait until they did whatever they needed to do, then either told me to eff off or sent me a new phone. He said he'd have to talk to his lead. He did so, and was told that no, there's absolutely no way I could send them my inoperative phone and wait until they could confirm I'd been sent a dud. I have to fork over $400, absolutely, no matter what, until they determine that I'm not a jackass trying to get over on them.
Feeling that this was completely illogical and that there was no way Google would have a ridiculous policy like this, with no exception, I decided to try again a few days later. I talked to a different rep about the situation and was fed basically the exact same verbatim line. I purchased my Nexus 5 on launch day, 6 November. My warranty runs up in a few months and I'll be heading to Afghanistan for an all-expenses paid vacation right before it does. I'm pretty furious about the whole ordeal and, basically, I want to know what kind of experiences other people have had regarding Google's warranty program?
tl;dr
Same for me. :/
Different story here (Hong Kong), I can just drop it at LG service center then they will take care of it.

Actually, that brings me to another point. I was advised to call LG to see what they could do for me. LG told me that if I paid to ship it to them, they'd happily repair it for money, then charge me to ship it back. US warranty repair/replacement is all through Google, they told me.
That's a fantastic piece of advice I was offered.
I don't really see the problem. You have a credit card, right? When I had my Nexus 5 replaced, I gave them my credit card number, a pending charge for $400 showed up, and after they received my phone, the pending charge went away. I don't even think the charge ever went past pending on my credit card. I certainly didn't have to actually pay or lend them $400 of my own money.

I assume that Google is doing the "we send you a new phone and once you get it, you send us back the old phone while we hold the price of a Nexus 5 on your credit card account" if I understand your post correctly. I find it a little funny that people can hate this method, as you do, while other people, like myself, love doing it this way.
I had to RMA my Nexus 5 after 1 month of use because it kept rebooting and I was so happy that I was allowed to keep my defective phone (because it can still be used, even though it annoyingly reboots) while waiting for a new device to be shipped to me. I wouldn't know what to do if I had NO cell phone for however long it takes for me to first send them my defective phone and then wait for them to process it and send a replacement phone. I'd guess that would probably take upwards of 2 weeks.
When I used Logitech's RMA process for my mouse, I had to beg them to use the same process. How was I supposed to use my desktop computer with no mouse for 2+ weeks while waiting for a replacement?
Overall, I think Google's warranty program is setup to be consumer friendly, but I can see how it can be a headache for those that are poor.
Also, having my device while waiting for the replacement isn't super useful to me if the entire touchscreen is inoperative. That's the point I tried to make with Google, I don't need a new device ASAP because this one is just as useless as no device. I'm already using an old phone (which I can't stand...).

Money is sent to Google so they can send out a second device. Once you have 2x Nexus phones in your hands you can then decide which you want to return and are never left device-less.
There is no loan, just a short hold on your credit card in case you keep both. Cross shipping is a valuable service, but you can choose to deal with LG and be in the same boat as most non-Google phone owners who are forced to wait a month or so for service.
If you don't have $400 to put up as collateral, I would just get a credit card. There are a lot of benefits to having a credit card. You can get 1% to 5% cash back on everything you buy, build credit, get better fraud protection than a debit or ATM card, and you can use it in situations like this as collateral instead of loaning a company your own money.
I do agree that Google should allow standard, old fashioned RMAs for people without credit cards who don't mind waiting though. That sucks.
+1 just RMA my device... Use a credit card they won't charge it just a temporary authorization so no money actually changing hands. Once your device is back in their hands they will cancel the authorization.

It even says there is no EIP on the account. Is it possible TMO screwed up and gave me a free phone? I know I've had plenty of screwups with them before, just never on the positive side for me. Anyone else ever have an issue like this? I don't want to bring it to their attention if they don't know, that's be dumb. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

It even says there is no EIP on the account. Is it possible TMO screwed up and gave me a free phone? I know I've had plenty of screwups with them before, just never on the positive side for me. Anyone else ever have an issue like this? I don't want to bring it to their attention if they don't know, that's be dumb. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Wow, this is an interesting one. I work at tmobile. I can tell you that you would have signed an EIP agreement when you purchased the phone if you got it in store. This agreement would show how many payments you are making over the next 24 months for the phone. If you never got one of those, and you have a receipt for the full price of the phone, i think you should take the money and run haha, that sounds like a free phone. If you wish for someone to check the account without charging you for the mistake - I can give it a little overview when I get in today at 1pm PST - you'll have to PM me tho, these are private matters and I still need to follow the rules haha.

Haven't been on in a while but wanted to come back and say this is now my 7TH bill! No EIP payment anywhere. What the hell do I do? I wonder if it has anything to do with me being a customer back when phones were subsidized still? Just very strange and don't want to bring it to their attention if I don't have to, they've screwed me before so...
BTW, I didn't pay full price only the taxes when I ordered online, I believe I electronically signed an EIP but no receipt for full payment obviously though. It does show on the TMO website as being available for use with them, which, it obviously already is.

Same thing happened to a guy I work with, with his iPhone 6 plus he waited and waited and nothing. So he finally called in just to make sure his accnt was OK and after the overview there is no record of his eip. So it's ur free phone

I wonder if I ask them in chat if I'm eligible for an EIP on the S6, that should tell me. They won't let me if I owe them for my Note 4 right?

Worth a try. Check the imei on their website to see if it says anything about it being owed. Or on my tmobile under billing. It shows what phone you have financed and how much you owe and paymemts left.

It says in billing I have no EIP on this account. Maybe I'll pick up the Gear S just to see what they say about the EIP and to play with it for a few days. Hmm..
I think the same thing just happened to me. I Pre-Ordered the Galaxy S7 Edge on T-Mobile, and it arrived on February 29th. I have now received my 2nd bill and they still haven't charged me for the phone, and the account doesn't list an active EIP on my line.
If I went to the phone section to try an upgrade it said "You are a Jump Customer. You are ineligible to jump because you have no Active Equipment Installment Plan" Since they said I couldn't jump I proceeded to take Jump off of my line and the next day when I go to the same page, there is a large "Upgrade" button next to the picture of the S7. Is that basically a confirmation that I own this phone and T-Mobile screwed the pooch?
So today I log in to my tmobile and see that I have a balance of $545. My first note 4 wasn't charging so I requested a warranty exchange in April. I called tmobile and they tell me the reason I'm being billed that is because the phone I sent back had a cracked lcd. My phone was in perfect condition when I sent it back. No way in hell was it cracked. The lady said it had a crack on the top right corner by the front camera. Not to mention my bill statement comes out tomorrow so that's another $110 right there. That's $655 due in 3 weeka. This is bull**** if they expect me to pay that. They already started some ticket or some investigation to see how they can solve this. I'm thinking maybe it was damaged while in transit by ups. And if it was damaged by ups, how is that my fault? I told the lady why would I return a cracked phone only to pay $550 for it when I could have just filed an insurance claim and only pay $175. I'm really upset and I'm hoping I'm not charged for this. Anyone else ever have a similar issue?

That's crazy. I'd fight them on it because you're right. It doesn't make sense when you could just file for insurance replacement. Get it elevated.
Tmo is still building their image and while they've been excellent to me, they can't really afford bad press at the moment. You can get them to back off on those charges, just be persistent.
Nice. File claim with ups

If it was a tmobile phone they always get insurance with replacement phones. Once it leaves my hands it all in ups hands.
Well Tmobile called me the next day. The lady was really nice. I explained the situation and she agreed so they credited me the warranty fee. I feel so relieved because that's a lot of money to just pretty much give away.

Yeah, dealing with Tmobile sucks. They have done it twice where they say I have never sent my phone back when I jumped. Each time coseted me up to about 100 dollars extra due to paying for two phones while they try to find them. Was told that whatever happens during transit is not my fault and only theirs. Luckiyl the first time they took it off and reimburssed me, but the second time they took it off and didnt pay me back. They also tried to make me pay another month for a phone they just took off my account lol
I've been thinking about switching to T-Mobile because of the better development work being done on the N4 but administrative screw ups like this give me pause...
You can't slam a customer with a $500 mistake and expect good customer relations.

I had a feeling they would refund the charge. They are very concerned with their image & customer relations right now which makes them one of the better carriers in terms of customer relations right now. Basically they are beholden to us for their growth and success and they don't need or want bad press. No doubt they will take advantage of those who don't argue charges like that but if that ever happens just get the issue elevated & the charges will disappear.
If they weren't in the position they are I wouldn't be so certain of this but they are desperate to grow & improve and at least for a while, they will bend over backwards for the customers. It's a beautiful thing. I can honestly say after being with all the other carriers for years (5 years each) the last 4 years I've spent with tmobile have been the best. No surprises. it's definitely worth it imo.

I switched to tmobile about a year ago, couldn't be happier. Their customer service have always been good to go if I called for anything. Sprint and verizon, not so much.
Thanks, I appreciate the reassurance.
I'm with Sprint & have had no problems with direct customer service but that last update they pushed out is a total fiasco IMO.
Do not take THE OE1 UPDATE U CANT ODIN BACK

Honestly, I've had nothing but great experiences with customer service. Any issue I've ever had have been resolved. This being the biggest one and it was taken care of by the next day. I highly recommend tmobile to anyone.

I just got off the phone with a kind woman over at Samsung regarding my pre-order, placed on the 3rd of this month. I was simply asking her -- considering both t-mobile and verizon have begun charging/shipping phones -- whether or not I should stick with my order at Samsung directly, or cancel it and go through my provider (Verizon... I know).
She very warmly told me, that Samsung would not be shipping phones until mid-September... I got a little worked up at this point and said "excuse me? I ordered this on the pretense that it would be shipped AT THE LEAST by the 19th" to which she fumbled around for a bit and told me that, "No dear, all Samsung orders are going out mid-September."
Suffice to say - this was rather surprising news and I'm pretty damned upset about it. I think I'll be going ahead and cancelling my order and walking into a store on Friday.
Just a heads up to anyone else waiting (if anyone else is waiting) on Samsung direct.
ETA - I didn't mean to post this in the T-mobile section - my apologies!!

I had also preordered the Coral Blue Note 7 directly from samsung.com and chose T-Mobile as the carrier. After reading your post, I called up samsung customer service too and they told me that those that preordered will be receiving the first batch before August 19th. I'm not sure if its just a T-Mobile thing though, since I see that you ordered from Verizon. Maybe you should try calling Verizon too to verify this information before you cancel.
I actually called back a couple of times to get some kind of statistical honesty... Yeah I know.
Finally I spoke to someone high enough up the ladder who said, "the only people who know when the phones from Samsung will ship, are the corporate execs. Despite what anyone tells you, only carriers can release early, as the manufacturer, we just wait. However, if you did preorder early, you will get your phone around the 19th as we've been told."
It only took me 5 phone calls to get some honesty... Albeit bizarre honesty. ALL I WANTED WAS TO HEAR 'Hey man, I'm gonna ship your phone on Monday!"
BTW I also went with coral blue, ordered on 8/3

The difference is a carrier branded model vs an unlocked intl model...might be worth the wait to get an unlocked exynos next month than a carrier branded and bootloader locked device now (or within days...)

Yeah I'm realizing that now after I pre-ordered with a presumption that it would be unlocked. I cannot stand a locked bootloader with no root. Going to return it take a $50 hit for a restocking fee lick my wounds wait 2-3 weeks for the international version to come out.. they have them on Amazon already for $980 but you can't order until August 31st. I guess I'll play with this for 2 weeks before I return it cuz I'm getting charged $50 either way for a restocking fee whether I open the box or not... Plus China is getting a version with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. That's what we were supposed to get the begin with from what I understand I've been waiting a year for this. I love the Note line..I have owned every Note ever made... in the last few years it feels like they add one thing and take away two! Samsung needs to be Samsung not copy or emulate Apple.. and also listen to the people because in the end it's us who spend our hard-earned money to buy these products they are now costing upwards to $1,000....if they don't... then I'll have to hit the lottery and start my own phone company with an S Pen...I'll call it Snapple....hahaha

Lol here's the deal- money talk and sh*t walks. Samsung will make WAY more money from idiots who haven't a clue what a bootloader even is thru samsung pay alone than what they'd lose if EVERY XDA member who's ever registered decided not to buy because of it...it's a no brainer for them. And as much as I've loved my Note devices (all of them since the N2) it's a real kick in the teeth smh makes me not want to buy one at all smh except I'll just wait on the 930F or get the Chinese 6gb model imported and activate on BYOD...
