Hey guys, so I have the N920C but probably because I have a Note 7 ROM I received a notification saying that "I must return back my Note 7".
I know that this is not a problem if this stops here but what if Samsung does something like Nvidia did with the Shield?
If they start locking phones remotely could this be a problem for a Note 5 user that uses a Note 7 ROM like me?
What do you think? Thanks.

Sammy detected Note7 being active via the software. As long as they lock down via hardware-detection only (like how AOD doesn't work correctly) then you're OK.
Otherwise I would shoft back to non-Note7 rom lol.

Well, I think if I see some news about Samsung locking Note 7 phones via software I'll put the Note 5 Rom back sadly :c

http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/tmobile-advanced-messaging-sms/
According to T-Mobile, the first device to launch with Advanced Messaging is the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, which is available for purchase today for $190 outright or $7.92 a month for 23 months and (to be absolutely exact) $7.83 for the final month. By the time we reach the end of 2015, T-Mobile will have “nearly a dozen more” devices that will include the feature. For owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6, however, they will also receive Advanced Messaging through a software update sometime in the near future.
My Note 5 has the feature.... I think. Its hard to say cause I haven't messaged anyone who has a compatible phone with advanced messaging.
The weird thing is when I had my S6 edge I was running the leaked Note 5 rom and the advanced messaging showed when my brother who had a Note 5 with Sprint was typing, read my messages etc. But when I got my Note 5 it doesn't do that anymore. You even have stickers etc when you are texting someone who has a phone capable of advanced messaging also.

Works just fine for me. My wife and I have the note 5. When she texts me and vice versa we can see the other is typing... Similar to hangouts.

My wife had the note 5 and I have the 5. Doesn't work
Has anyone figured out that the deal is with this feature? Me and my wife both have the Note 5, and it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Kinda seems like it had a mind of its own and works when it wants to
Is there any way to recognize the reversion Note 5? SAMSUNG said there is a reversion Note 5 according to the complain about the backwards s-pen. As mention there is a new design to the s-pen detenction sensor on the motherboard. Anyone know how to recognize this? Im a new note 5 user here, and i bought it last week, just wanna know if mine is the reversion or the old version. :fingers-crossed: Sorry if my english was bad!
Yes the English needs a tweak. By reversion you mean revision. Better yet "Revised Version" of the Note 5.
AFAIK there is no way to tell, short of taking the phone apart, or sticking the pen in the wrong way.
Although you can check to see if there is a build date on the box or the phone. The newer the better your chances I'd imagine.

Yes, the Note 5 in the left side is the fixed version.
Ok guys, so i got it. The newer version maybe has the chance of getting that moddified s-pen sensor. Since i bought this Note 5 last week, probably mine is the revision Note 5. Hopefully.. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
My note 5 has a damaged unresponsive screen, and i would like to still collect the media off of the device; i do not need to use the device after i back up the media off the device.
I do however have an old note 3, and my question is:
Can i temporarily connect the note 3 screen to the note 5 and proceed with the backup of the note 5?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are trying to swap motherboard from note5 into note3(because note 3 screen is attached to bezel/body), so no way to do it. I don't have the knowledge in repairing hardware but they are completely different hardwares, hence it looks impossible.

Ok,
Thank you for the reply.
Curious if Spen from note 9 will be compatible with Note8
Phone seems to be the same it has only slightly bigger display

If you're talking about the button, to push to launch camera and take photos and such, then no. The pen sends a trigger to the phone via bluetooth and the firmware on the phone then translate them to certain functions. It won't work out of the box, but it might be possible to port the features through custom ROMS. I'm not 100% on that, though.
With a custom ROM maybe, but it won't be able to charge. It should work as a normal Spen though, so if you dig the bright yellow (why?) you can use it for aesthetic reasons. No bluetooth functions on stock though, and no charging.
The BT S Pen is pretty useless to me. I would never pull my S Pen and take a shot I can just use bixby voice for camera.
Pretty curious too id love to get my hands on that yellow spen and put it in my note 8 xd because i think we would be able to port most of the features of the note 9 with a custom rom im only wondering could we be able to use the new spen ?
This is a pretty dumb question lmao... you think Samsung would allow Note 8 users to buy the S pen separately and have it work on the note 8? That defeats the whole purpose of the hardware changes in the note 9.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Note9 SPen is a tiny, tiny bit bigger than the Note8's, so it might not fit in the SPen dock. Also, as niallasher said, it won't be able to charge on your Note8, so it would be pretty pointless, anyway. You'd need a Note9 to charge it, in which case, you might as well get and use a Note9.
The new note 9 spen has a capacitor in it that is charged when inside the note 9 itself. I would doubt that charge port would exist in the note 8, then you would end up with just a yellow spen.

Probably not. If you want to use the Note 9's Spen features then no. It will probably work as a regular Spen
I tried in a Samsung store the Note9 s Pen and no detection on my Note8. I could try everything, trigger Air command or just use it to swipe pages, it doesn't work. I think that it can't be used on older Note devices
Yes, spen from note9 is charaged from inside a phone. But i think it is done by wirless charaging so what if you will use wirless charager to charage a phone and maybe it also work for spen itself.
?
Maybe its done by software.
I'm wondering if it uses the same technology as the one that detects the phone.
@deepseaturtle: Did you have your N8 Spen removed/taken out when trying the N9 Spen, or disable the Spen Power Saver feature?
It was out indeed because I wanted to see if it fits inside and the only option that was turned on about S Pen detection is the alarm when it's far from the phone

The store put an anti-theft system on the Pen so I wasn't able to put it fully, but it seems to fit somehow on the phone

I just tried the note 9 spen on my note 8 and it work like a regular note 8 spen. Can write, go through screens, etc. But the bluetooth functions nope it won't work. And the n9 spen is taller then the n8 spen so it's going to stick out of the note 8.

Thanks !!
So I assume the S Pen was either not detected by my phone or I did this wrong.
So now we can be sure it works !
I was wondering if the New Note 9 S Pen will work and fit with the Note 8. I have a Note 8 and love it. From what I have read of the Note 9 specs, there is little need for me to upgrade.
Much larger battery
Slightly larger screen but same resolution
Better camera but its only better because of the updated software
More drive space
And an S Pen that (shoots freakin laser beams) has Bluetooth support
Those are great upgrades, but I do not feel like spending close to $1000 two years in a row. I kept the Note 7 S Pens when I returned the explosive phones multiple times in case I wanted backups. They work fine with the Note 8 even though their spec were supposed to be slightly upgraded. I would love it if I could get my hands on an Note 9 S Pen and be able to use it with my Note 8 without having to buy a whole new phone. I especially love the feature of taking a picture with the S Pen.
Does anybody have any thoughts or insight on this?
Looking at the Note 9 S-Pen I doubt all the functionalities will work with the N8, like the S-Pen charging or even working as a Bluetooth device as with the N9. It may not even fit.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
it need be charged. i guess it cant be full working on note 8. when it was low/out of battery, it would become note 8 spen?
Find a way to charge the pen and I don't see why we can't use it with a note 8

Yeah another poster said the new pen is longer than the one on the Note 8 so it may not fit or might stick out.
It would probably work as a normal S-Pen. But without the bluetooth functions.
I have tested on both the Note 8 and Note 9. They won't work with each other. The Note 9's S Pen can't do anything on the Note 8' screen, even it's just a little touch or swipe.
Thanks for the feedback. That is a little disappointing but I guess I can wait. Samsung upgrades their phones just a little bit every year with just one great new feature to get me to consider the upgrade. Smart business plan. I wonder is a third party S Pen with Bluetooth will be developed to work with Note 8. That would be rad.

That's not right, I tried it at a Samsung store a couple days ago and it worked just fine as a plain EMR pen. I couldn't test fit since the pen was in a holder though.
Charging the pen capacitor likely won't work on a note 8, but it'll still work as a normal wacom pen.
The note 9 pen is bigger. It doesn't fit in the note 8
This is a really dumb question. You think samsung would allow note 8 users to use the note 9 pen... theres a whole reason why they're pushing the note 9. It's not even the same internals anymore.

Lol in terms of being able to use it as a stylus I'm sure it works fine. The whole point of that note 9 pen is for the functions... if you can't charge the pen or fit it back into the phone wouldn't you say its supposed to be meant for the Note 9. It's a dumb question ...

Of course the note 9 pen is meant for the note 9 lol, no one is questioning that . OP's question did lead to the clarifications on the level of interchangability between the note 8 and note 9 pens, which some found helpful. If you think it's dumb, well, thanks for telling us how you feel! Otherwise, I don't see any added value there... Moving on [emoji41]

There's actually a battery saving option on the Note phones that lets you turn off the S-Pen touch detection while the stylus is inside the phone. I noticed this as well at a store where the Note 8 pen didnt work on my Note 4 until I took out the pen from my Note 4. The option also exists on the Note 8. When you turn the option it off you can use your extra S-Pen's while the original is still inside the phone (I believe it's turned off by default actually, not sure though)

That is a really dumb answer. I could say for example newer MS surface pens are working on older devices; so why not asking if the newer note pen works on older devices. But that is not my point. The point is rather that your need to appear smart by degrading others.

Never tried to "appear" to look smart. Just stating something that's obvious. I don't see why the pen wouldn't work in terms of navigating through the phone with the actual touch of the stylus. The functionalities obvs wouldnt work. Anyways I'm moving on. Peace.

Point taken. For some this is a learned behavior. Still, it is emotional abuse. I would watch that kind of language. This is a great community. It would be even sad to lose someone to emotional abuse or harassment. Make no mistake. It will not be tolerated. Take the high road. Be the better person. Peace.
