Can't receive messages sent through advanced messaging unless on Stock messenger - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, strange issue and have researched to death and can't find a fix. I recently flashed a EPG2 ROM and noticed that I can't receive texts from specifically from other T-Mobile users using the STOCK messenger with advanced messaging. I can receive all other texts, and everyone receives all of my texts. If a problematic user sends me a text from any other texting app I get it, just not the stock app. The ONLY WAY for me to get their text is to also be on the stock app and on LTE or Wifi. Otherwise the text never hits my phone. I don't even get the old texts, only the ones they're actively sending. On their end it doesn't say delivered unless I've actually got it. They always get my text however, regardless of where I send it from (stock or third party) I don't know why they're phones keep trying to send me an advanced message when I'm not using advanced messaging, previously it would just come through as a standard text.
Some steps I've taken:
Updated modem and baseband and BL to EPG2
Turned on and off VoLTE (issue persists either way)
Narrowed issue down to t-Mobile users using stock samsung messenger on any Samsung Galaxy device
Verified I am able to receive texts on LTE and Wifi while in Stock messenger only
I would love some other minds on this, I'm trying to avoid another wipe. Thanks!:good:

[Q] MMS over Wifi while in phone conversation?

Well... To begin, I'm unrooted, and use Handcent as my only sms/mms messenger.
My last phone was the Evo 3D, rooted with the stock rom. Unsure if that has something to do with it or not.
I used to send MMS while in a call all the time with my 3D without issue. I can only assume that it was sending over wifi. I was/am always connected to my wifi at home, where I typically am on the phone and trying to send MMS at the same time.
For some reason, on my One, it has to wait until I'm off of a call before it sends MMS. SMS goes through just fine.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Nothing? ^^;
Just wondering if anyone can figure this out. Boggling my mind, and a little irritating, since I used to be able to on my old phone.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium.

Maybe it's the way Sprint does talk + data, because on my One on AT&T I am able to send and receive texts while I am on a call.
Well... I can send and receive texts during a call just fine, whether I'm on WiFi or network. It's just MMS that doesn't seem to download, or send for that matter, while I'm in a call.
I suppose I can understand not being able to send images through SMS while in a call, but I used to be able to at least do it while in a call and on WiFi with my Evo 3D. Just don't know why it should be different with the One.

Lumia 822 not sending texts

I have a lumia 822 and every time I try to text, I get a failed message.
I get to make calls and even get HSPA 3G data, but I just can't get texts to work
any help?
If you're doing anything outside of normal messages (long ones, multiple recipients, images, funny characters, etc.) it may be trying to use MMS instead, which sometimes requires some configuration. Check the Messaging settings to see if it's using MMS instead of SMS. Beyond that, try sending a very simple message to just one person. Better yet, have one person send a simple message to you, then try to reply (if you get it).
SMS uses a mechanism inherent in the way modern cell phones work. You don't even need a data connection for it; if you can send and receive calls, you can (in theory) send and receive texts.
If it's really not working, I'd suggest taking it back to the store; there's something wrong.
I read that it's an issue with the phones, but some have reported that there IS in fact a fix for it, was hoping someone here knew.
I can receive texts no problem but sending always fails.
What carrier are you using? I would contact them first, I had a similar issue with my Tmob 8X.
Any update on this issue? I recently switched to SimpleMobile from AT&T and the text messages are not getting sent. Incoming messages work fine!

From one contact I can only get mms messages. Odd.

Ok, I've got something odd going on and to be honest I'm not sure if it's a T-Mobile Nexus 6 based issue or something on the other end (Oneplus One).
I have one contact in particular that can receive sms and mms messages from me with no issue but I can only receive mms messages from him. If it's a standard sms I never get it. It's really odd. Considering he can get both types from me but not the other way around makes me wonder if the issue is on my end.
I just updated to 5.1.1 and still no change. This was with a factory reset and not restoring the old data either (so nothing corrupted came from the update).
This happens regardless of what messaging program I use (Textra, stock messaging app, etc).
Anyone have any suggestions?
I would expect it to be more network than phone. Try and get a test sim from another provider in your phone.

Can't recieve SMS Text Messages (but can send them)

Hey everyone. I just got my global unlocked Mi Mix (6gb, 256gb), and I can't receive texts. I'm on At&T, and I'm getting 4g VoLTE all the time. I can send texts, and I can make and receive calls, but I'm not getting any texts that are sent to me. I've tried switching to 3g, and I've tried the stock messaging app, Google Messenger, and Textra. Nothing has fixed the problem. I really want to keep this phone, but I have to be able to receive texts.
Anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have this same problem. To make matters worse - mine happens intermittently too. For example, sometimes I could be texting someone and receive some of their texts, then suddenly a few texts in I no longer get their responses. Not sure what's going on.
I suspect it has to do with the Contact Manager APK, but not sure how or why.

Are you on ATT? And if this is a software issue, putting on a custom ROM might resolve it. I guess.
I've got texting working now. I did two things and I don't know which is the solution.
First, I put my sim in an ATT phone I had laying around. I sent some texts and took some calls on that phone. Then I put the sim back in my phone while wifi was turned off. I did this whole thing because I saw a thread on an ATT forum regarding the same SMS issue but with a different phone. The ATT moderator suggested doing those steps.
Second, I downloaded Pulse and set it as my default SMS app. So far, texting is now working without any problems.

Help: Weird SMS Problem

Need help diagnosing and solving a bizarre problem: S10 doesn't receive texts from a specific sender, except after restarting, retroactively receives all texts sent by that sender. Supernatural powers might be involved, given the sender's phone is mine, and the fickle S10 is my wife's.
I'm including a lot of info below, b/c this seems to be a tough problem to diagnose, so I'm erring on the side of completeness.
Specs: My phone is an LG V35, rooted with Magisk, Android 9. Her S10 is not rooted, running Android 9. Her phone is logged in to the same Google account I use on the Play Store, so that she can use any of my paid apps without paying again. (This has never caused any SMS problems in the past, just annoyances like her getting my reminders, which I then turned off on her phone.)
The problem started on 10/26/22 (about three weeks ago). I know this b/c I sent her a long text that day, which her phone received immediately, followed by another text that same day, which she didn't receive until eight days later on 11/3/22. There were several other texts I sent btw 10/26 and 11/2 that she didn't receive until 11/3. However, we did not catch this problem until yesterday (11/17), when she discovered that I had not, in fact, been ghosting her, but that her phone was not getting my texts. We found this out b/c some other app on her phone wasn't behaving normally, so I restarted her phone -- and BAM, all my unreceived texts suddenly arrived on her phone. Since then, I've tried texting her phone, and it receives nothing from me until a restart, and then her phone receives all my texts retroactively.
As far as we can tell, neither of our phones has any problem with SMS communications with anyone else's phone (except some iPhones -- don't get me started). Other people receive my texts normally, and her phone receives other people's texts normally.
I tried texting her from two different Google Voice accounts I have (both different from the Google account our phones share), and her phone received both G-Voice texts immediately.
I tried changing my SMS app (from Pulse to Textra). No effect (her S10 didn't receive texts until restarting). I tried changing her SMS app. No effect. I did a Samsung software update (thru Settings) on her phone. No effect.
I have an old S10e, my last phone before I switched to the LG. As an experiment, I popped her phone's SIM card into my old S10e. I installed an SMS app neither of us has ever used before, Handcent Next, on the S10e. Without doing anything else (i.e. w/o transferring her S10 data or settings to the S10e), I texted her number from my LG. The text arrived immediately in Handcent. I thought, Eureka!
I promptly factory-reset my S10e, and used Samsung's Smart Switch to transfer "Everything" from her S10 to the S10e. After all her data, apps, & settings were transferred to the S10e, I texted her number, and… NOTHING. The S10e did not receive my text, until I restarted it.
So, my question to all Android sleuths out there is: What the hell?
Excellent detail and info.
My initial guess may be because you're sharing the Google account. Yes, I know you said this didn't cause problems before, but now with Google Messages (I know you're not using that, but still) doing lots of RCS and background stuff, I imagine there may be some behind-the-scenes interaction that is causing problems. I'm not saying this is a fault of RCS or anything like that, but I think the sharing may be the issue?
I would suggest trying to create a new Google account, and keeping the phones on separate accounts... it's a free and easy test, I figure... and you seem quite skilled in more difficult things, so this should be easy enough?
Also note, some apps support family sharing, so if you setup a "family" between the two accounts, you may get the purchased apps on both accounts without too much issue. My wife and I do this and it has worked pretty well for our apps. (FWIW, we both have S10+ and use GMessages on separate google accounts, family shared, and don't have any issues with texts, etc.)
schwinn8: I liked your idea & reasoning, and I implemented it -- new personal Gmail account for her, added to my G-family. Restarted her phone, and sent her a text which did not arrive. (I texted her from a Google Voice account, and that SMS arrived instantly.) I then restarted her phone again, and, for the first time, the initial text still did not arrive. That's new, at least.
What setting could possibly delay a text from coming in?
Well, that's not the direction I wanted things to go either!
Not sure what else could delay texts from coming in... not aware of any delay mechanisms in most cases.
Are both on Wifi during this process? Is the LG running a ROM with working VOWIFI? Yes, I am grasping at straws...
Well, recalling my old Windows 3.x experiences, I factory-reset the S10e (my old phone), and installed all of my wife's apps and recreated all her settings on it from scratch -- i.e. no transferring apps or settings from her phone. A labor-intensive solution, to be sure, but it is working so far. The S10e receives my texts normally.
