I am running the newest dsa rom but one thing I wish I had was Bluetooth ID3 support. I use an iPhone7 and my wifes 5 year old lexus with a stock head unit displays everything. Is there a way to enable this function?
Thanks for all you guys do.
Have not seen anyone able to add that capability (or the battery level/signal strength)

Hi noob here, lol.
I didnt see any onfo on Pandora for Android so I e-mailed them and heres the response I got.
Hi (insert my name here),
Each version of Pandora software for a portable device needs to be separately developed and approved by the cell carrier. PDA devices like the G1 require extensive testing before they can be certified. Unfortunately that slows the development cycle. I don't know how long it will be for the G1. It's a particularly complicated device.
You can see the up-to-date list of supported Phones at http://www.pandora.com/on-the-go
Thanks for writing. We love feedback and we read absolutely everything!

Pandora Listener Support
Looks like they have an app in development for the G1. No info on release time frame, but at least its not the usual no comment you expect to get. Good news as I plan on gettin a G1 in a couple of months and love my Pandora.
Well I'm perfectly happy with Imeem. Works just as well for me imo.
havent tried imeem yet, but since I already have a pretty good station set up on pandora its nice to know that they are aparantly working on something for Android.
Pandora on my Hermes was quite nie - I had just started using it.
I can't wat for an Android version. Last.fm is tollerable (almost), and I haven't tried iMeem, b/c I just want Pandora!

That's interesting, because i thought one of the bright spots of the Android platform was that it was UN-complicated to create an app for it. Maybe they're doing it wrong!
Yeah I am using Streamfurious and it does what I need it to. Never had a chance to try Pandora, it will be nice to try on the G1
I would love pandora but Imeem gets the job done and does it well.
Have used SF, last.fm, drizzler and practically every other app for the andriod and it seems to me imeem is the closest thing to pandora.
I'm really holding out for Pandora. I use it on my home PC all the time and I can't wait to have it on my G1.
It may be some what difficult to create a pandora app. The songs are just aac files downloaded over http get requests. However the control channel is encrypted (the control channel being signing in, pandora server saying what song to pay, and feedback, etc). However like any DRM scheme pandora has to give you (the user) a way to decrypt and encrypt the control channel so you can actually use it. This means that the key used to encrypt/decrypt is located in the flash player which gets downloaded to your computer. I have used used flash decompilers and it is there (although obfuscated). The encryption is labeled "blowfish" in the code, however the decompilation was problematic and produced errors in the code. I have used Flasm to look at the flash assembly but have not got very far. It should be not extremely hard to reverse engineer this thing so we can create other players, say on android. However I have not had the time recently. Anyway thought I would share encase others wanted to know information.
I got the JAD for blackberry and the JAR for sprint phones hosted at http://moosefist.byethost2.com/ I tried running them through the J2ME converter available in the market but I get this error
Code:
Error in startnull
"CustomErrorjava.io.IOException: CustomError
at com.netmite,util.AndroidUtils.
downloadURL(Unknown Source)
at com.netmite.ade.MIDletInfo.
downloadApkFile(Unknown Source)
"
Are there any JAVA guru's willing to give this a shot? maybe this deserves a separate more dedicated post in the Development forum...
Really Immem? If you really think it holds even a thought of a candle to Pandora.. then my guess would be that you just hate music or you like the top 100 chart, which by the way Imeem does very well, But trying listing to Nick Cave, or Infected Mushroom, or Iggy Pop, or Choking Victim, or Leonard Cohen.. they have no clue how to make a radio station tailored to the artist, or even artist in the same genre. They have an app for the CrackBerrys on T-Mobile, so my guess is that its not T-Mobile being.. well T-Mobile this time. (what a novel concept)
For the time being we will have to make due with imeem or lastfm

Imeem's variety sucks. Last.fm is nice but is too slow to load over EDGE.

I just got this email from the developer of the J2ME converter
Code:
Hi, Raul,
Thanks for this information, we had took a look at the file in that web site.
There are two problems with it,
1, the jad does not have MIDlet-JAR-URL point to a valid jar file
2, the jar file refers to some custom sprint API.
We can circumverting this issue and will give u a working version in the coming release.
Thanks,
Dana
Hopefully if they get this ironed out we can have a working port of pandora from one of these files. I still invite any JAVA pro's to be them to the punch. The files are at http://moosefist.byethost2.com/ if someone wants to try.

well if t-mo would get a ove on and listen to their customers most of us would have 3G by now. they have been telling me for three years that i would have it in 3G by the end of the year, but this isn't the place for my whining.
i personally like imeem and most of the bands that it puts in the same station as my favs, problem is though that it repeats the same songs over and over. pandora is nice but i never got used to it. it puts all kinds of weird stuff with my favs AFI and Atreyu
yeah, its not t-mobile I am on EDGE, its AT&T's for not adopting the Android platform yet....
Any word if and when Android will support MAP and other profiles?
Is there a possible workaround in the meantime?
Okay, what about utilizing iAnywhere Blue SDK? Anyone tried incorporating it?
This must be a taboo subject - there is literally no information anywhere on this. The only thing I could find is that Marvell has licensed the Android version of Blue SDK. Blue SDK for Andorid integrates MAP and a whole host of Bluetooth advanced profiles at a software level but I can't find anyone who has reported any experience with it.
Seriously, the iPhone and Blackberry all have built in support for advanced profiles. Android needs to get on board ASAP - the advanced profiles are crucial for automotive apps and next generation in-vehicle information/entertainment systems.
Does anyone have a contact with the Android developers they can PM me so I can try and find out if this is in the cards at all? This is terribly frustrating....
If you look the Droid 2/X it has support for MAP and some other protocols that the other android phones don't have. I'm currently looking at the Droid line to figure out where this support is and maybe see if I can port it to the Nexus.
Hi !
I'm new to this forum, and a new user of Android (2.1) / SGS. I recently switched from the iphone 3G, which was ****ed up by ios4 and after swearing I'd never buy another crapple product ever again.
As a linux user / open source fan, I love my SGS so far. I've started messing around with a number of things already, mostly basic customization and application / widget picking, and have landed on a launcherpro+folderorganizer setup. Now enough about my life nobody cares about, I have a few noob questions that are yet unanswered by my initial research, thanks to anyone who will take the time to answer !
1) Regarding plugnplay'ness : when I plugged my SGS to my computer (win7), at first it wasn't recognized. I had to google the error, find some samsung drivers, install them (took a while) before I could access the phone in explorer mode. Is that normal behaviour ? I kinda hoped the phone would be recognized as a "usb key" on any computer without having to install anything.
2) For Android updates : from what I understand, the way of doing them is to install Samsung Kies on a PC and pilot the upgrade from there, correct ? Or is this only for major updates ? Is there a way to auto-update the OS from the phone itself without needing to use Kies ? Are there other things I can only do with Kies (without needing extensive knowledge of Android internals) ?
3) About root : apart from installing android versions that are not yet official, what are the common uses that require root privileges ? I'm familiar with what being root means under linux, but I guess my question would be more like : what are the restrictions on the default user and what do they prevent him to do ?
4) The "lag" : I see everywhere mention of this "lag" problem. I haven't noticed any. Granted, I come from a world where simply opening an application can take anywhere between 15s (iphone 3G+ios4) to 10s (iphone 3G+ios4.1), so maybe I just got used to things being slow ? Or is this happenning only on some specific devices / setups ?
5) The keyboard : is there a way to hand-pick the keyboard layout ? I have my locale set to english because I like the english OS interface better, I have my input language set to french because that's the language I write most in, which results in an azerty keyboard layout which sucks. I'd like to hand-pick the swiss keyboard layout (qwertz with accents), I know it exists because it switches to it if I pick german as input language, anyway to do that ?
6) Android market and security : is there any control from Google over if not the quality, at least the security of apps in the market, or not at all ? Is it my duty as a user to make sure that any app I would download from the market is "safe" ? Is there any justification for installing something such as an anti-virus on android ?
7) MarketS : there are other markets than the "default one" out there. I do not understand their sales pitch. Aren't applications that are in other markets also in the Android Market anyway ? Where is their added value ?
8) Taking notes. On the iphone I loved the iconic notes application. It allows to create a hierarchy of folders and subfolders and write/store notes inthere. I haven't been able to find anything similar yet, the market seems spammed with forks from an "hello world" notes application. Any recommendations ?
9) RSS : I haven't been able to find a good RSS reader as well. By good I mean feed categories, widget, and support for images. Any recommendations for this ?
10) Media files : it seems that the embedded applications that aim at reading media files (images / music / video) auto-scan the folders on the SD card for supported file types and include them. Is there any way to prevent this on some folders ? For instance I used ringdroid to create a few ringtones, but now those appear in my music player, so I'd like to prevent my ringtones folder from being used by the music player.
11) GPS : haven't played with it much yet, but I read here and there it was buggy. Is it a general state or country-specific ? On an unrelated note, are there offline maps navigation applications available ?
Well 11 questions is probably enough to start with. If you take the time to answer, I thank you in advance .
You do not find anything, Why :?? Rss channel is on all sides, until you can organize its yourself ... kies works for the exchanges, multimedia mp3, video.. the last Firmware is recognize the kies, but need the driver , firmware changes are another thing, I had the iphone 4 .safari browser ****, really slow and messy Iphone 3gs is more better.I sold that **** 250 pound When The prize is more 400 pound, crap, The iphone 4 his value is U.S. $ 200. If you feel good in Iphone buy one and play with him .. ahh and have problems with sound and audio capture .. And not just for me, the number of comment are no good to Iphone 4. My SgS 9000 Working 100% kies Working Good, Video , No lag , Browser,,Everything. if something is wrong there you need chekin out, My Firmware is JPM, And The Market have everything, Everything Working in my SGS , Regards
GPS Calculator is a Swiss army knife tool for working with GPS coordinates. It is free and has no ads. New version released today is completely globalized and localized to English, Russian and French. Based on most recent 2004 revision of the world geodesic system earth model, this app allows you to accurately project locations on earth surface, calculate distances and view real geodesic shortest lines on a map. It also does GPS coordinates conversion between different formats; calculates area of any closed polygon; allows you to access detailed GPS settings and manage favorite locations; reverse and forward geocode; and with the help of the large database of build-in locations works even offline. If you would like to know more, head in directly to windows phone marketplace and read the more detailed description there:

Hi,
I'm mainly a backend developer, I used to do small application development for Android & iOS but that's really just normal. Never customized a ROM before.
I always wanted to start side project to customize the Head Unit on my car.
Mainly i want to be able to
- Customize look and feel (create a custom launcher?)
- Develop custom software (for example app that interact with OBD2
I've browse multiple thread but there's so much information.
I would appreciate pointers to get started.
1. Finding reliable good enough Head Unit for my VW Polo gen IV (9N). Any recommendation?
2. Is there any 'Getting started' article / resource?
3. What do you think would be a good task to start with?
Kind regards,
