Hi, I have S6500D and since it was quite slow, I decided to flash custom ROM. After some unsuccessful attempts I managed to get CM 11 working. But later I realized it's not detecting my SIM. It will find network operators, IMEI seems legit, but it won't connect. Also, if I inserted a SIM with pin lock, it actually asked me for pin, but after clicking OK it won't do anything. I've tried different network providers as well.. nothing.
Now, I have seen similar issue on some other Samsung device (I think) and the reason was that I had wrong baseband, which lead to the fact that the modem was not working at all. But with this, it just won't register the SIM card.
As last resort, I've flashed some stock ROM via Odin, but still the same. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thank you for any advice.
//UPDATE: Well, I found the problem, only it's not on SW side, but hw one instead. As last resort, I have disassembled it, to find out that one of the SIM tray pins is broken.

I9000XXJPC has become a major headache, and now the sim card won't work with other firmware. The first time I updated via Kies, everything was fine for a little while. After realising it's buggy, I went back to JG4 and renamed nv_data.bin etc..
The second time I installed JPC for a bit of a play around was via Odin, and that went fine, but still buggy firmare. This time when I went back to JG4, the sim card doesn't work properly. It asks for the PIN, sits on "Unlocking Sim Card" for a bit, then asks for the PIN again, saying it's incorrect. After entering the correct pin another 2 or 3 times, TWlauncher appears, but there is no service.
Odin didn't make a backup of nv_data.bin, but I had made a copy myself just in case. Restoring this does allow Kies to see the proper product code, but makes no difference with the sim card.
Is there anything at all I can try? It seems as though flashing JPC via Odin has altered more than just the /efs directory, but I don't know what. It might also be possible that anyone else on JPC will discover the same if they go back to 2.1, but I hope it hasn't done too much damage. I tried another sim card from another network and it's the exact same situation (works only with JPC).
To anyone who hasn't tried I9000XXJPC, don't! It's not worth the hassle.
Basically, sim cards now only works with JPC..what can I do? I have 3-button recovery, so can try just about anything if need be.

Thanks, I read and tried so much but somehow missed that. At least it's a known problem thanks.
Edit: I thought it had something to do with the dates of the files. hmmm now I'm stuck.
Alright, so I have lost track of the # of hours I have spent trying to solve this problem. I have a Samsung Captivate originally purchased from Rogers, and a Rogers Sim card. I flashed a custom rom onto my captivate, which was good but still gave me some problems. I somehow ended up when clearing something in the rom getting into a bootloop, so I could no longer access my phone.
I used Odin to go back to stock, but my phone gives me the "no sim card in phone" issue. I checked by putting another sim into my phone..same issue, and I put my sim in another phone...and it works fine..so it is not my sim card. I did *#7465625#
and Network Lock is on. I even flashed to Rogers froyo rom, since I am using a rogers sim card, but still get that problem. None of the market tools for unlocking the phone give me any codes...what should I do..?
The SGS Unlock tool from the market won't work on Froyo, as far as I know (I haven't bothered checking to see if it has been updated in the past few months, but it was a 2.1 only thing the last time I checked.)
There is a froyo unlock procedure in the development section. Have you tried using that after flashing your Rogers rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831569
Edit: Oh yeah, make absolutely sure you back up /efs before you do anything, or you'll have your face ripped off if the procedure doesn't work for you.
Helroz has put out an app on the market to unlock 2.1 and 2.2 phones Havent tried it yet.... worth a shot...
kind of confused. I mean, I originally purchased my phone from Rogers, and my Sim is from Rogers. I am not sure if it was always locked to rogers, but it just says "no service" and doesn't recognize that I have a rogers sim card. even if network lock is on, shouldn't it still recognize my sim? The methods you have posted have not worked for me. Perhaps I should see if I can get an unlock code from Rogers themselves. If I could do that, would that solve the problem?
Also, if I somehow managed to get an unlock code for my phone, where would I enter it? Would I have to relock my phone to rogers? Could someone explain how I would do that?
Did you try a factory reset from the settings?

I have done a factory reset before, but i'll try doing it right now...see what happens.
ok I just did a factory reset...still telling me there is no sim inserted even though there is..any other ideas?
Alright so finally everything is showing as "OFF" including Network Lock but it still will not recognize my SIM. i did another factory reset but still no luck. Any other ideas??
What does it say in your APN Settings?
Can't access APN settings. infact, just going into "mobile networks" gives me "insert SIM card" even though it is already well-inserted
Sorry - I meant to say mobile networks - brain fart
[EDIT] The only thing i can think of would be to check the pins that contact the sim card... see if those somehow got damaged. Also check to ensure they are clean, blow out the sim card holder and if needed give the pins a wipe to clean them up and try again. If all else fails, try to get your hands on another sim from the same carrier and see if it works. If a different sim works, then yours is hosed most likely...
It's okay guys I managed to solve things in the end! thanks for all your help tho

I wonder...I just couldn't bring myself to pose the question
for self-pride(not that I have any left after spending god knows how many hours searching in a hex editor for non existent damn unlock codes) I refuse to state how i resolved my issue -______________-; (cough). but THANK YOU ALL for your support anyways! I have definitely definitely learned from this horrible mistake.
bet it was inserted backwards
Hi there,
I am by no means an expert on any of this, but I've come across an issue what makes my phone unusable even though I have only had it for a month or so.
After getting the phone, a friend of my flashed Slimrom (version 1) for me on my phone. I've flashed myself before, but I had no idea how to get the device rooted for me. That went well untill I got a message of "full storage" last night, even though there was about 60% empty internal memory left. After some moving around I decided to factory reset, and when that didn't work reflash the ROM.
The issue seemed resolved however for some reason my phone no longer recognizes my simcard. My simcard still works (tested it on a different phone) but it never asks for either the pin didgets. If I try to go to to mobile services it just says "error could not find any mobile networks" and even after flashing the newer rom Version 2,5 and now flashing CarbonRom I can't get it to work!
I am left clueless, if anyone could help me out it'd be great as I am really dependant from this phone!
You have a so called developer IMEI now (starting with 004999...). Please check this.
This is the reason why the sim card isn't recognized anymore.
You can change the simcard pin after each restart and it works.
Or use one of my Roms with a workaround (I have this IMEI problem too).

Thank you so much for responding! If I try to retrieve the IMEI by typing in: #*06*, all I get is a blank. I however was able to find it with a sticker inside the phone. I guess there isn't a simple command to getting this changed. I can't even find the simcard pin change in my settings, it's not in the security tab atleast.
I will do anything for a ROM right now just to be able to get my service up and running, but I'd like to fix the phone for the long run. Any idea on how this is best achieved?

Blank ist the other version of a ruined IMEI.
Search here in the forum: there are some threads regarding backup of EFS and restoring IMEI (if you made a backup before).
And one member is offering to repair the IMEI if you can proove that you have the original (the sticker). See his website http://www.cvxcvx.pl/?lang=en
Alternative: try my Pristine XXLSZ v1.9 with the workaround I use all the time without problems. After you can be sure if it is only the IMEI problem or something more difficult with your sim.
Can someone please help?
Few days ago my phone stopped recognizing sim cards. No mather what I've tried, it still won't work.
It's acting like there's no sim card inserted.
IMEI is still there
I would appreciate any help.
I posted a picture of the problem.

Well, I'm not sure about the problem; if you are on a custom rom, it might be because of that, or incorrect flashing. Try using another ROM, and if problems persists try Stock ROM meant for your region. (it might be possible that you flashed a ROM for a different region and because of that you might have a problem..)
AND NEVER POST YOUR IMEI NUMBER ONLINE.

I'll try with stock rom.

pop your sim card out for 15 min. then put it
back in your phone.
In the second pic it is clearly showing 1 bar of signal
So how can you say sim is not being detected
No way out here

Did you notice the the SIM symbol with question mark inside it?
The phone acts like there is no SIM card inserted when it is inside all the time.

Thanks for the advice, but that didn't work. I tried several SIM cards. Same thing every time.
have a read tho these answers, maybe you'll find a solution http://bit.ly/17Ku2cc
I just got a used AT&T Vivid with what turns out are 2 anomalies that I failed to observe initially.
First I tried to put my ST sim card out my AT&T SGS, and get no service. No big shock initially since I have to change the APN info. Couldn't do that cause option is dimmed.Checked further, No IMEI, IMEI SV, or baseband. Took sim out and observed that I get NO sim error at startup, just "no service". Tried an AT&T sim from a friends Vivid, same result.
I was hoping that the sim card reader just might be bad, a cheap easy fix and apparently some what of a common issue. Haven't ordered one yet until I get more info on whether the no sim error and no IMEI etc are related and it's not a more serious hardware issue. I don't have a problem with repairing hardware if needed.I'm a noob here, but have a brain like a sponge, so any thoughts on how to proceed with diagnostics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
No imei is really bad...
No one here can help you recover it without a proper backup... I have no idea how to back it up nor restore...
If you don't figure it out I'd have to suggest flashing to stock... prolly via ruu and go to an at&t store...

I don't think (but don't know 4 sure) that this phone is anything other than an out of the box stock configuration. I don't have service with AT&T so I don't know how much help they would be. I did check with them to make sure IMEI printed on the phone wasn't blacklisted and it's OK. All I have done was to do a factory reset to clear all the PO's stuff.
Does anybody have any more ideas? I am wondering if I don't need to replace the motherboard and or just the simcard/sd part. Changing the motherboard would mean a different IMEI right?
No imei means something went wrong with the bootloader. It's unlocked? Did you try to S-OFF?
I believe flashing a rom stock via RUU (that's it, flashing the PD.zip file) maybe can fix the problem.
At worst you must change the motherboard and yes, you will have a diferent imei.
I may be wrong, but I see no sign that anybody has done anything to change ROM or anything else on this phone. I'll try to do a S-off, and unlock it since I want to use it on ST anyway.
hello,
i've also same problem here
flashed with stock rom but no luck ,
bootloader locked and s-off
searched forum but no success story
i think i'll return it
Well I finally got a new SIM/SD card reader and installed it. No change.Tried ST, AT&T, and T-mobile sims
Still get no SIM error when booting with or without a SIM card, has an X on signal strength, and it doesn't even say "no service".
Same as to IMEI etc. info, nothing shows up.
Am I going to have to change mainboard? Or is it possible firmware/ROM changes could fix it?

Unlocked the bootloader tonight, no problem. Will try s-off tomorrow.
Where can I get a stock rom file?
I'll only ask this dumb ? once: Is the OS (JB,GB,ICS) different than the rom? I'm still running gingerbread 2.3.4, should I got to ICS or? Will that have any affect on the imei issue?
I might just be getting some experience with this phone if I have to do it all over with another mainboard.
OK, so I decided to play with this phone again after my SGS1 was freaking out yesterday. I finally found and used a phone dialer code do download the ICS update, and it downloaded (via wi-fi), installed and rebooted fine. In fact It apparently fixed my IMEI and SIM card problems because when it booted the first time with ICS it showed a big icon "no SIM installed" ya hoo!! checked IMEI in settings, all was good. Played around with settings/menus a bit to familiarize myself with the differences, then restarted...NO IMEI again, and no sim error without any SIM installed On the next 5-6 restarts it worked fine all but once, (total on time of around an hour) but now every restart (10+) it's back to same original issue: no IMEI shown and no SIM error. I still have no AT&T compatible SIM card to really test it but if it doesn't give me a SIM card error (no SIM card installed) it's a moot point.
It really puzzles me that it appeared to work at all if I have a bad mainboard. My daughter in-law has a Vivid with a bad screen she's going to give me to use for parts (mainboard) but I'm not sure if there's not still some hope of salvaging the current one.
