XT1095 suddenly switched off and wont boot - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with my Moto X 2014 - XT1095. Phone was fully charged and in the morning suddenly went off and wont come back on after that. I have been over 24 hours now without a phone.
I have tried to force restart and done external factory reset as mentioned here: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...prod_answer_detail/a_id/101072/p/30,6720,9197 and the same problem is still there.
When I press and hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time while plugged, a green light blinks briefly in the middle of the top speaker grill and nothing more happens.
This phone is about 6 months old. Can anyone help me solve this problem and get the phone back?! :crying:

It sounds like your battery died and might need replacing. Does it attempt to charge?

When plugged to the mains, nothing happens but when plugged to the computer, green light briefly show up in the middle of the top speaker grill and computer makes that connecting sound.
Cant also get to boot Mode Selection Menu

Please give us some details. Which rom did you use? It was a custom rom or the stock one? Did you have an unlocked bootloader? Did you have installed a custom recovery or not?

I was having stock ROM, never rooted and no unlocked bootloader. This is a vanilla device and totally untouched.

Using moto's charger, charge your phone for about 2 hours. After this time and while your phone charging, press and hold power button for about 3 minutes and see if your problem solved by this way.

Maybe i'll have to do this again but unfortunately that hasn't helped earlier when I was advised to do this by Moto's support rep

I have tried that again @Jim_C30 several times and the phone is still dead. Any hope for this phone anymore?
Would have been nice if the computer recognise the phone and at least can try and flash a ROM to it

Without charger hold the Volume Down and the power button together for at least two minutes. Is there any difference?

thanks @Jim_C30 for your assistance. Unfortunately no difference ?

Is your phone under warranty? I read that is only 6 months. Why don't you visit a Motorola Service Center?

well yes that's where I've got problems... bought the phone in the US and I'm now in the EU so warranty only works in the US. Sending it to the US is impossible because of lithium battery inside the phone ?

I am more than sure that the warranty is global. Make a question at motorola but i think that i am right. The warranty is global not only at the place you bought the phone. They could find anything by your imei.
Do it, don't be scared!
Just make a question...

thanks I've asked already Motorola before I came here for assistance. They said it is having only US warranty. Motorola's warranty isn't global anymore unfortunately. I've to send the phone from here to the US for repairs - this is just terrible from Motorola.

exactly the same problem here and at the same moment, yesterday morning

I have the same problem here. Do you find any solution ?
It is stock ROM, never rooted and no unlocked bootloader.

Solved for me :laugh:: I disconected the battery for about 10 days. Then I conected it again and with the solution " press and hold the volume down button and the power button" but for about 3 minutes, and MAGIC
I've tried this like 5 o 6 times during 2 weeks but at first I only saw the green led on at the top of the screen and a vibration but finally it tuned on yesterday!
This problem was produced after two hard resets due to the hard battery draining cell stanby

Isthere away to power up nexus through adb?

My power button broke and can't get it to power up. So I can put it back to stock and send it in for warranty, I thought since it don't power up they wouldn't know. thank you
That's impossible - if the phone is powered off, adb/fastboot cannot detect it.

Plus you can't re-lock the bootloader so they are going to know either way that it is not stock. Apparently, they are still covering hardware warranties even if the phone is rooted. Good luck.
PS- Wrong section. This should go in Q & A.
I read something about pulling the battery while charging. Try that.
putting in stock won't help either.. Your bootlader is forever unlocked once it's done.

- plug the charger (led is orange)

yea I figured out that trick by mistake...I was about to suggest it.
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A
You can also plug the phone into usb and it usually automatically boots once it's fully charged.

+1 to this - unlocking the bootloader only voids software warranty, so hardware failure should still be covered.
Mine is at HTC right now for the power button and I left Froyo on it when I sent it in. I sent it yesterday and they said 5 days from the time I gave it to FedEx, so I think it will be back Saturday or Monday. I will post back if theres any trouble with the warranty.

Not true. There is no separation in the warranty since unlocking could affect the hardware if, for example, you loaded a dodgy kernel that overclocked the cpu too far and burnt it out.
You might very well find that if it's something like a power button, they will still do it under warranty since there is no way unlocking could have caused that, BUT they are within their rights to charge you for the work if they are feeling particularly nasty
Anecdotal evidence here seems to suggest that they do cover this kinda thing under warranty but it's always best to know where you stand, legally.
Great trick!
I were also tried finding this secret boot method when I did this:
- Pulled the battery while the phone was ON, an put in back in right away
- Plugged in the charger (no more than 2 seconds later)
The phone gave me a burst of 7-8 vibrations, but did not boot. Does anyone know what it is trying to tell me?
(stop pulling my battery, you jerk?)

Update already!
They said it would take 5 days from the time I dropped it off at FedEx to the time I got it back but I dropped it off at FedEx about 1pm monday and it's going to be delivered back to me tomorrow. Nice.
They didn't say it was fixed, but they said they would call if they had any problems, questions or it was going to cost my any money to fix it and all I got was a "thanks for using HTC, please fill out this survey" email and a shipping confirmation from FedEx, so I assume it's good as new and there was no warranty problem.
EDIT: Got it back today only to find that instead of fixing the button, they replaced it with an unrooted phone running 2.1.
I have a moto cliq and if I remember correctly if you hold the camera button down and plug it into usb power while holding camera button it turns on. Maybe nexus has a trick that is similar.
does the "put the battery before the light turns orange to green" work if my battery is full??
the thing is the power button failed when my phone was being charged....
or do i have to wait for the battery to decrease and try the method then?
It doesn't matter. Usually, you can just put the battery in while the phone is plugged in and it will turn on. If it doesn't work right away, keep trying. You should get it in a few tries.

[Q] Phone won't turn on, red charging LED stays on, hardware buttons lit

Hey guys,
I left my HTC One to charge and when I tried to unlock it, it wouldn't respond. Right now it's a blank screen, the red LED is on even when I unplug the phone, and the hardware buttons are lit. I've tried to restart the phone by holding the power, holding power + volume down, but nothing is working. Device isn't showing up under adb or fastboot devices. What is going on? How can I fix this?
Help me out. Thanks!
-Coby
Edit: Recently this has been happening to my phone frequently, but I am usually able to get it to restart doing the methods said above. This is the first time I can't get it to do anything.
Put it under a stronger light and longpress power + vol-

I was actually searching through old threads and found that same answer and tried it. I can't believe it worked! Thanks! Why does this happen though? And will this hopefully prevent it from happening later on?

Why the stronger light? Im confused! :cyclops:
This has worked for me a ton of times too, I guess it must just trigger something with the light sensor the phone has and wakes it up.

It happened to me when i was rooted and used CWM.
It happened everytime i let the battery run down completely.
I havent rooted my replacement yet and when i let it run down, charged it for ten minutes and it booted straight up.
Seems to be an issue with the phone reading the charge state of the safety circuit in the phone. Mere speculation but i havent heard of it happening to anyone who wasnt rooted with custom recovery....

I have exact the same issue: The battery ran out completely, then I can't charge it or turn it on.
I have tried
1. with charger connect to outlet, power + vol-
2. with charger connect to PC, power + vol-
3. under desk light, without charger connected, power + vol-
Nothing worked for me.
Some questions:
- Should I connect the cable when I attempt to turn on the phone?
- Is normal desk fluorescent light "bright enough"?
- Should I move the phone under the light first then press the button, or the other way around?
Thank you for your help!

[Q] HTC One Switched off and Won't turn on

Hi all,
I have purchased a HTC One while in US a month ago from AT&T. I am now in India and the device worked perfectly fine until two weeks ago, it switched off automatically.
I tried a lot of combinations mentioned in the forums and also contacted the customer service (both in US and India) and they requested me to try holding the Power and both Volume buttons at the same time for 2 minutes. I did this for 10 minutes and it won't work.
When I connect the phone to Wall socket charger, the LED won't lit up. When connected to my laptop, the windows O/S makes the connected sound but nothing happens.
I really appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Krishna Menon.

Press and hold the power+volume down buttons. Once the home and back button lights start flashing, keep the power+volume down buttons pressed and plug it into your pc.. It'll connect and install necessary drivers and your phone lights will stop flashing, and it will eventually boot up in hboot.
It may take a few tries
Ps: Always use the thanks button

Nothing happens when I press and hold the power+volume down buttons. I held it for 10 minutes. When I connect the phone to computer, it was detected as qhsusb_dload. When I searched about this issue on net, many posts say the phone is bricked and can't do anything about it.
Anyone help me how to unbrick my phone? Appreciate the help.

Unfortunately "qhsusb" is usually a hard brick and needs a motherboard replacement
for one (or two?) people, the phone miraculously came back on for no apparent reason (if memory serves, for one guys it came back when the alarm rang the next morning), but other than that it's usually considered a hard brick, and needs hardware fix.

I followed the steps mentioned in one of the posts on QPST; but as my phone was not detected, the COM port was stated as Not Available in the QPST configuration s/w. Don't know what else to do.
I thought I would add to this thread an obvious step that sometimes gets forgotten.
I assume you attempted to charge your device in multiple sources: wall outlet, computer, etc.
I suggest you try some more, ideally varying cables and power adapters.
I experienced too many times - and even once with the one - the same exact brick you're describing and most of the times, the only solution was the above: find a combination to charge the device when its battery is completely depleted as in this situation they're more picky as to the source of power

[Q] Moto G "Not Turning ON" "Not Charging"

My Phone is neither turning on, nor charging since last night. I am on stock firmware with no changes at all. {moto g 2nd gen locked bootloader , unrooted} purchased 10 days ago.
I tired following things but it didnt work:
Charging Phone using stock charger (4hours) - no response
Charging with other charger, as well as other socket. - no response
Pressed power button for 10 sec (forced start) -no response
Pressed volume down key for 2-3 seconds n power simultaneously (external reset) - no response
Volume Down and Power Down together for exactly 2 minutes - no response
Charging using laptop usb - no response
no response at all from phone (complete dead)
Any help or suggestions please.....
Update: raised complaint to flipkart, dey hav assured replacement within 10days (5days pickup - 5 days new phone delivery.
Have it replaced and go contact motorola they can help you in this thing.... Best suggestion is to have it replaced...
@Mohdsultan I hav raised a ticket for return to flipkart, but really cant find the cause for it..
@spypsy I think the battery is dead and call Flipkart they will do it a little early... and what did you do when the phone was last open?
I think one of the post in this forum said that holding Volume Down and Power Down together for exactly 2 minutes solved this problem.
I had what sound like the same issue. Tried ask the power with volume buttons etc.
What worked was to plug into my laptop, not a charger. It was slow to charge but it worked

Well if they were kids then I think they messed up with some settings or something or it could be just a battery dead... If u help please press the thanks button....
Battery ws around 56% .
If I were you, after trying all the Vol & Power key combinations, I'd disassemble the device, remove the battery and charge the battery via an external power supply (an elimeter maybe).
Wouldn't mind the warranty! [emoji6]
BTW: What's the status on your device? Is it dead still? Or did you get it replaced?
Is this fixed?I am waiting for the result.....
Same problem with 15day old moto g 2nd and now Solved
I too facing the sameproblem and when conected to pc its showing qhusb_bulk..what should i do.already registerd a complaint on fligkart.
OK didi anyone tried to connect to PC..when i tried it shows qhusb_bulk and driver installition failure,so i turbned off the signature verification mode by
reset the PC, and press F8 during the boot sequence (just after POST, but before the Windows loading logo), which opens up the Advanced Boot Options list, and choosing the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. ( orginal for 1st gen MOTO G http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623587).
Now the PC detects the MOTO and shows installing ADB drivers and start showing Battery at 0%..
press power and vol down and in the boot menu check the battery status .if its showing "Empty battery in red blinking" this procedure may works
i now plugged it to carger and now its charging......

@StaticBlaze m sure ders sum hardware issue , so i didnt do anything.

I had raised the complaint to flipkart n dey agreed to replace the handset with brand new one. Waiting for pickup since past 2 days.
Finally after 3rd pickup delay from flipkart, raised online complaint on twitter n got new phone in 2 days. Though i had to ship d faulty one myself to their warehouse.
Finally matter settled.

Dead MI 9

Hi everyone, my Mi 9 8gb 128gb China Version has died. It switched off during the night and I booted it up this morning, it switched itself off again. Same thing a couple of times now there's no life.
Flashed Eu rom with OTA, being working fine for 7 months no nothing.
No led
No Recovery
PC doesnt pick it up
Phone is ice cold even though its being on the charger for hours
One positive is that when its plugged into the power bank the bank doesn't switch off, means there is a connection. Will leave it on charge overnight and see what happens.
No blunt force trauma or swimming was involved with this device.
Any ideas?
Maybe a dead motherboard.
Don't know the cause. But it seems so by the looks of it. RMA it.

Hi
You've written no recovery boot (means pressing power and volume+ button)
Did you tested also buttons power and volume- to start fastboot mode?

No button combos worked. Was able to boot into recovery just before the final failure.

You can throw a minute or two depressed on all key combos, nothing.

I have the same issue. Did you manage to fix it?

Hi, no still nothing. I'm waiting for the coronavirus to blow over a bit them send it to China to assess. I hope they will fix it under warranty, replacing a dead mainboard is not worth the $.
Same issue. Dead phone. Tried power on for a minute, volume up and power, volume down and power, etc.
I bought mine just after it was launched, so zero RMA available. Also, I live in Brazil so the likelihood of someone being able to service it where I live is almost zero.
Many times, this problem occurs because of the FPC of buttons! So, open the phone, disconnect the power button FPC and try to power on the phone with a metal needle by shortcut the pins in the port! Tested on many devices like Mi5, Mi6, Mi8!
