Hi all,
I have purchased a HTC One while in US a month ago from AT&T. I am now in India and the device worked perfectly fine until two weeks ago, it switched off automatically.
I tried a lot of combinations mentioned in the forums and also contacted the customer service (both in US and India) and they requested me to try holding the Power and both Volume buttons at the same time for 2 minutes. I did this for 10 minutes and it won't work.
When I connect the phone to Wall socket charger, the LED won't lit up. When connected to my laptop, the windows O/S makes the connected sound but nothing happens.
I really appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Krishna Menon.

Press and hold the power+volume down buttons. Once the home and back button lights start flashing, keep the power+volume down buttons pressed and plug it into your pc.. It'll connect and install necessary drivers and your phone lights will stop flashing, and it will eventually boot up in hboot.
It may take a few tries
Ps: Always use the thanks button

Nothing happens when I press and hold the power+volume down buttons. I held it for 10 minutes. When I connect the phone to computer, it was detected as qhsusb_dload. When I searched about this issue on net, many posts say the phone is bricked and can't do anything about it.
Anyone help me how to unbrick my phone? Appreciate the help.
Thanks & regards,

Hi nkk71,
I tried this method without any success. When I contacted the HTC global support, the support person did mention this method. I tried holding the power + volume up + volume down buttons continuously for 15 minutes and nothing happened (my fingers hurt afterwards, #on a lighter note)

Unfortunately "qhsusb" is usually a hard brick and needs a motherboard replacement
for one (or two?) people, the phone miraculously came back on for no apparent reason (if memory serves, for one guys it came back when the alarm rang the next morning), but other than that it's usually considered a hard brick, and needs hardware fix.

Thanks nkk71 for this quick response. It's very unfortunate that my phone requires mother board replacement.
I loved the phone a lot. Now, I have to shell around 15K I believe.

No warranty? Sorry mate
you could leave it in the charger for a full day, and see if it comes back to life, and power it completely off while charging, not just the screen off.

I bought this from one of my US friends and now in India and I wasn't able to properly contact him. Lesson Learned for life. Not to purchase without proper documents.
I have put the phone charged for straight four days without removing in the wall socket. Nothing.

So I've been reading around, and came across QPST, and some guys have unbricked a hard brick using this tool. Is it possible to somehow make it work for the One?

Don't know what QPST is but i do remember there was a tool a while back for other phones to fix the Qualcom_HUSB mode, but I don't think it was ever updated for the One.

I followed the steps mentioned in one of the posts on QPST; but as my phone was not detected, the COM port was stated as Not Available in the QPST configuration s/w. Don't know what else to do.
I thought I would add to this thread an obvious step that sometimes gets forgotten.
I assume you attempted to charge your device in multiple sources: wall outlet, computer, etc.
I suggest you try some more, ideally varying cables and power adapters.
I experienced too many times - and even once with the one - the same exact brick you're describing and most of the times, the only solution was the above: find a combination to charge the device when its battery is completely depleted as in this situation they're more picky as to the source of power

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here..
My HTC is not turning on at all. I was using it fine, nothing was over heating and it was just in my pocket. I went to check on my phone and it was just off. Is there anything I can do, or possibly take it in for warranty. I have never owned a HTC so I don't know where to go for support. I am from Sydney Australia. Any help would be appreciated. I have left it on charge for 30 minutes - And nothing yet, not turning on

No lights or anytihng coming up? Try any button combinations, power and volume down, try it while the phone is not plugged in... report back with any findings.

Tried everything.. I bought this phone from Gumtree Australia a few months ago and that person got it from the Optus store via Contract I believe. But I don't have the Receipt however, I have the box and accessories and warranty stickers that come inside the box. Would I have to go through Optus store or is there a HTC One centre like they have Apple and Samsung centres/stores..
This question is probably only for Australian users
I heard of this before... Try plugging it into your computer and leave it for an hour. Then... (While still plugged in) hold it under a bright light and hold power + vol down, for a few minutes. I think this problem occurs because CWM allows the voltage to get too low for the phone to start. Good luck man

Well, when I heard this in another thread he said he fixed it by plugging it into the computer for an hour or so. Then the led turned red, then he put it into recovery and booted right into the ROM. Np hope it works out for you

The light has to be facing the phone. You can see the two sensors on the top left on the front, point the light there.
I fix mine by let it charge on wall plug for 4 days straight until red LED started to ON back..lets it charge for another 1/2 hr n press the power button to ON the device..weird..4 days just to gain back some juice due to battery completely die..

Ok, I have a HTC One from new, only a few months old. 4 days ago I rooted my device and flashed with Android Revolution HD, Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) - latest official HTC One 3.57.401.500 (WWE) firmware (3x.x series). Everything has been working like a dream, perfect.
Last night I was listening to some music via Google Play when everything stopped and went blank, I pressed the power button and the bottom buttons flashed 4 times (reboot?). The battery at the time was at 70% +
No matter what I try now, power + up volume, power + down volume, power + both volume, just power will not get my device to boot. I am currently leaving it plugged into the mains to see what happens but there is no LED light on.
Can anyone out there help me besides saying send it back for repair
Many thanks in advance

my htc one is flashed with google edition 3.4 for few months ,suddenly it is black and no charging light nor response to any combination of power plus volume
I put for few hours on charging no any response
when plugging it the desktop in device manager just feel like something is attached to pc (do just like(refresh)
I've just read about how this problem could've happened because of using 3rd party chargers with a higher voltage/ampere rating.. Is that true?

It's just weird. I've taken great care of the phone and it bricked for no decent reason. It wasn't charging or anything. It was simply on the top of a table, in the shade. Whenever I plug it into the computer, I get the QHSUSB_DLOAD unrecognized device, which is also weird. If the motherboard is fried, it shouldn't be recognized at all, right?

It will actually get recognized.. But this unfortunately is a hard brick.. Looks like this is the mode in which Qualcomm/HTC inserts initial codes into the phone to make it work.. Like maybe it programs the bootloader at this stage?

Yeah, some places have the JTAG box around here, but they don't work with HTC One, since the device didn't officially come to Brazil. I guess I'll have to figure out how to get my phone to Australia and then back again.

My phone just did the same thing. Tried to turn it on and nothing Plugged in the charger and no light.
How I turned it on.
Hold down the volume up key and the power key for days, it finally turned on. Battery had 80% charge. Powers up and charges now. Let me know if it works for you.
So here's what happened: Today I was using my phone and all of a sudden it froze. It froze when I plugged it in to charge when I was on my main screen. I unplugged it and pressed the power button to turn the screen off but nothing happened. I pressed and held my power button for about 10 seconds and the screen shut off but now nothing is responding. I pressed and held to power button down for 20 sec and I get no response. I press and held the power and volume buttons for 4 or so minutes and I still get no response. I get no charge light when plugged in. It seems as though my phone is dead, any help in confirming this would be nice but tomorrow I might travel to the nearest BestBuy to start a claim to get a new phone. I have there fabulous insurance which is a very nice thing to have.
OK this phone is working again! It froze around 6 pm tonight and now 4 hours later its working. I may still turn it in to get replaced due to a previous incident that killed my IR port from transmitting. I just don't want to run into this problem again.

I'm also having a similar issue with my One.
Issue: Phone was streaming internet audio while on the charger, charging overnight (this is something I routinely do). Unplugged phone from charger, phone running ~ 98 degrees F. Audio stopped. Pressed power button and no response. The phone will not turn on. It appears the phone is dead.
Tried the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Long press power for 10-15 seconds. No response. No capacitive button light flash. No LED response.
2. Long press power for 10-15 seconds near a bright light. No response. No capacitive button light flash. No LED response.
3. Press power for 4-6 seconds. No response. No LED response.
4. Plug into charger. No response. No LED response.
5. Plug into computer. No response. No LED response. No device recognition.
I'm assuming my phone is dead but confirmation would be helpful.
I also wanted to see what people's experiences were with retrieving data from dead phones since I have all my apps etc. backed up on internal memory with TB. Backups are encrypted so I'm less worried about data theft, but I would like my info back for convenience purposes.
Other details:
Firmware: most recent for 4.3
Rooted, S-Off
Rom: ViperRom 3.5
Recovery: TWRP 2.6.3.0.
Please let me know if you need any more information from me or if you guys have any insights.

Connect it to a PC and see if it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD your phone is bricked, probably dead motherboard. I'm starting to think that the One is a very defective phone, since there are many threads filled with dead phones and it's not even 1 year old. This is not good

Thanks for the advice. Connecting to my PC and looking at Device Manager, I'm not seeing the device at all.
A few notes: Running Windows 7 64-bit, local Administrator privileges, HTC drivers have been installed (I've run ADB and FASTBOOT commands from the machine before). I've also checked viewing Hidden devices in Device Manager with no luck.
Any other thoughts?

Appreciate the help. I'm checking different USB cables as a last ditch effort, but likely will be in touch with HTC. I'll update with results.
The general consensus seems to be that certain phones shipped with faulty heatsinks. Since they can't dissipate the heat, it all builds up and fries the motherboard. My guess is that's what happened.

Quick update - I have TEP on my account with Sprint. Took to the Sprint store, they could not power on the phone. The tech's guess is that the battery was somehow disconnected from the phone, he said mobo issues typically give some type of error instead of no response at all.
Got them to replace the unit free of cost, just need to ship back my old device. Thanks for the help and insight everyone.
I'm glad for you. Strange though how the battery got disconnected with all that glue they put in these phones

I think I hard bricked my 1st gen moto x. I was in the process of unlocking the bootloader using motorolla's guide and everything was going fine. i had the "unlock..." (or "unlocked..." i forget what it actually said) showing on my screen and just out of habit, i hit the power button as i put the phone down.
now, nothing.
nothing at all. no recovery mode, no nothing. does anyone have any suggestions? i've tried holding down power and vol down for 5 min. i've tried pushing random buttons. i've tried praying to the motorolla gods.
Is your phone the developer edition?

Press and hold the volume down button simultaneously with the power button for about 5 seconds then release. Can you get into bootloader mode?

I've tried that several times. Definitely can't get into bootloader mode.

This sounds like a hardware failure, maybe a battery failure or a charging port failure. Like someone else suggested, try a different charger and see what happens.
Is it still under warranty?

His warranty is void unless it's a dev edition

Depends on the state - in many states in the US, a manufacturer cannot void a warranty if the product failure/defect has nothing to do with why the manufacturer wants to void the warranty.
Since unlocking a bootloader has nothing to do with a battery failure, in those states where the law is as I stated above, Motorola cannot void the warranty. Now the average Joe may not know this and may not know how to sue Motorola if they won't honor the warranty, but if you do know this and do know how to file a small claims case against Motorola, then you would win in those states.
So it is not across the board true that you void your warranty if you unlock your bootloader and don't have a dev ed. It depends on the state and what is wrong with your phone.
Happened once to my Galaxy Nexus, solved with Odin. I don't know if there's such thing for Motorola devices :/
Odin can reconize the phone when powered off, that's why it worked.
i had no fastboot, recovery or battery icon when plugged to charger

Keep it plugged in, if it is totally drained, it will not turn on for a while until it gets charged to a safe level. Then after awhile on the charger, try to get into bootloader mode.

Unfortunately I have been charging it for a day now and nothing. I think I need to try that RDS lite fix or moto x flasher tool. Only problem is I don't have a windows computer with admin access, so trying to borrow one.

That is the first to.e hearing Odin being used on a nexus. That is interesting. I always thought odin was for Samsung only.

Good point. I have the old gnex. I just always used fastboot. Never read about anyone using Odin the whole time I used it. Always learn something new!
Same thing just happened to me. It was displaying blue "unlock..." then just froze. Absolutely nothing, just a black screen. Can't get into any bootloader or recovery. I really hope this phone is not totally screwed now. Any of you guys have any luck?
Hi,
Last night I was using my AT&T HTC One M7 and suddenly every app crashed Whatsapp, Sense Home etc and phone just turned off
No lights work on phone, not even charging light
It doesn't power on
When I plug it into PC I can hear a sound and it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager
If I keep Power+Volume pressed while plugged in, I can hear usb connect/disconnect sound every few seconds until I stop pressing the buttons
I googled and I haven't been able to find a solution. I tried all combinations of power+ volume buttons.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I bought this phone 2 weeks back. Used ofcourse.
Thank you.
Try this guide:

If this doesn't work, looks like your motherboard is faulty.
Good luck!

Device randomly turning off and then detected as QHSUSB_DLOAD is caused by hardware problem. This guide is only to fix devices that went in this mode after a bad firmware flash.

Thanks alray, I thought the same. Do you have any idea if this is fixable by Repair guy? Or is it gone completely?

You'll probably need to replace the motherboard which doesn't really worth it imo. You can find new M7 for about 180-200$, pretty much the same price to get this one repaired.
