Hi everyone, my Mi 9 8gb 128gb China Version has died. It switched off during the night and I booted it up this morning, it switched itself off again. Same thing a couple of times now there's no life.
Flashed Eu rom with OTA, being working fine for 7 months no nothing.
No led
No Recovery
PC doesnt pick it up
Phone is ice cold even though its being on the charger for hours
One positive is that when its plugged into the power bank the bank doesn't switch off, means there is a connection. Will leave it on charge overnight and see what happens.
No blunt force trauma or swimming was involved with this device.
Any ideas?
Maybe a dead motherboard.
Don't know the cause. But it seems so by the looks of it. RMA it.

Hi
You've written no recovery boot (means pressing power and volume+ button)
Did you tested also buttons power and volume- to start fastboot mode?
Glad I'm not alone
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a dead Mi9.
Mine died today after acting wierd an nothing booting?
Black screen an no battery light an no button input. Hard brick it looks like.
Im off to buy a $40 piece of crap on pay day for work an family if it is really dead.
Wierd? Same as you. At least charger indicates its charging but cold an black an no button command responses?

No button combos worked. Was able to boot into recovery just before the final failure.

Hi, no still nothing. I'm waiting for the coronavirus to blow over a bit them send it to China to assess. I hope they will fix it under warranty, replacing a dead mainboard is not worth the $.
Same issue. Dead phone. Tried power on for a minute, volume up and power, volume down and power, etc.
I bought mine just after it was launched, so zero RMA available. Also, I live in Brazil so the likelihood of someone being able to service it where I live is almost zero.
Many times, this problem occurs because of the FPC of buttons! So, open the phone, disconnect the power button FPC and try to power on the phone with a metal needle by shortcut the pins in the port! Tested on many devices like Mi5, Mi6, Mi8!

Hi all,
I have purchased a HTC One while in US a month ago from AT&T. I am now in India and the device worked perfectly fine until two weeks ago, it switched off automatically.
I tried a lot of combinations mentioned in the forums and also contacted the customer service (both in US and India) and they requested me to try holding the Power and both Volume buttons at the same time for 2 minutes. I did this for 10 minutes and it won't work.
When I connect the phone to Wall socket charger, the LED won't lit up. When connected to my laptop, the windows O/S makes the connected sound but nothing happens.
I really appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Krishna Menon.

Press and hold the power+volume down buttons. Once the home and back button lights start flashing, keep the power+volume down buttons pressed and plug it into your pc.. It'll connect and install necessary drivers and your phone lights will stop flashing, and it will eventually boot up in hboot.
It may take a few tries
Ps: Always use the thanks button

Nothing happens when I press and hold the power+volume down buttons. I held it for 10 minutes. When I connect the phone to computer, it was detected as qhsusb_dload. When I searched about this issue on net, many posts say the phone is bricked and can't do anything about it.
Anyone help me how to unbrick my phone? Appreciate the help.

Hi nkk71,
I tried this method without any success. When I contacted the HTC global support, the support person did mention this method. I tried holding the power + volume up + volume down buttons continuously for 15 minutes and nothing happened (my fingers hurt afterwards, #on a lighter note)

Unfortunately "qhsusb" is usually a hard brick and needs a motherboard replacement
for one (or two?) people, the phone miraculously came back on for no apparent reason (if memory serves, for one guys it came back when the alarm rang the next morning), but other than that it's usually considered a hard brick, and needs hardware fix.

you could leave it in the charger for a full day, and see if it comes back to life, and power it completely off while charging, not just the screen off.

I followed the steps mentioned in one of the posts on QPST; but as my phone was not detected, the COM port was stated as Not Available in the QPST configuration s/w. Don't know what else to do.
I thought I would add to this thread an obvious step that sometimes gets forgotten.
I assume you attempted to charge your device in multiple sources: wall outlet, computer, etc.
I suggest you try some more, ideally varying cables and power adapters.
I experienced too many times - and even once with the one - the same exact brick you're describing and most of the times, the only solution was the above: find a combination to charge the device when its battery is completely depleted as in this situation they're more picky as to the source of power

no good news, mine first t715 also died like this. i hope I was wrong but...
Take it in for warranty m8
Might be worth waiting for the battery to completely drain and then try and turn it on after getting some charge in it.
I've had problems recently, after using OTG, the tab's display will just turn off, and when I mean off, it's just the screen, the tab is actually still on, as you can feel the heptic feedback, the only way is to force reset using the power volume and home key.
Another problem, still recently, I had about 12% power, so I just connected the USB to charge the tab, the screen started to flicker and then nothing works, after 10 minutes reconnected the power, and it started to charge up from 0%, it seems like the tab has gone haywire, I had decided to trade it in the next few days for the xperia X performance.
Not even bothered to take it to samsung service center (still under warranty), I can't stand their customer service, my tab has been through a repair before, my home key died and it kept on grabbing the side of the hole and sticking down, they replaced the part, but left something inside causing a lump at the back, problem sorted out, but the buttom kept on grabbing the side of the hole and not coming out if you press it slightly on one side, I even showed them the problem, and they agreed, and they say that a normal person won't press the button like that, and it's normal, I did mention that I have tried a few units and does not have the same problems, they just said it's normal, so I said to them if this is normal what isn't normal, and do they tell all there customers if they have a problem that its normal.
So I am completely sick of there BS, trying to keep away from samsung stuff.

Got rid of it, it should be a problem internally, anyway I've traded it for a Sony Xperia X performance.
Mine also died few days ago. I tried to charge it with different chargers and cables but without any success. POWER +VOL DOWN is not rebooting the tablet.
Now I am planning to open the back cover and will try to disconnect the battery. I believe it will help.

I have a problem with my Moto X 2014 - XT1095. Phone was fully charged and in the morning suddenly went off and wont come back on after that. I have been over 24 hours now without a phone.
I have tried to force restart and done external factory reset as mentioned here: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...prod_answer_detail/a_id/101072/p/30,6720,9197 and the same problem is still there.
When I press and hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time while plugged, a green light blinks briefly in the middle of the top speaker grill and nothing more happens.
This phone is about 6 months old. Can anyone help me solve this problem and get the phone back?! :crying:

I was having stock ROM, never rooted and no unlocked bootloader. This is a vanilla device and totally untouched.
Using moto's charger, charge your phone for about 2 hours. After this time and while your phone charging, press and hold power button for about 3 minutes and see if your problem solved by this way.

Maybe i'll have to do this again but unfortunately that hasn't helped earlier when I was advised to do this by Moto's support rep
I have tried that again @Jim_C30 several times and the phone is still dead. Any hope for this phone anymore?
Would have been nice if the computer recognise the phone and at least can try and flash a ROM to it
Without charger hold the Volume Down and the power button together for at least two minutes. Is there any difference?
thanks @Jim_C30 for your assistance. Unfortunately no difference ?
Is your phone under warranty? I read that is only 6 months. Why don't you visit a Motorola Service Center?
well yes that's where I've got problems... bought the phone in the US and I'm now in the EU so warranty only works in the US. Sending it to the US is impossible because of lithium battery inside the phone ?
I am more than sure that the warranty is global. Make a question at motorola but i think that i am right. The warranty is global not only at the place you bought the phone. They could find anything by your imei.
Do it, don't be scared!
Just make a question...
thanks I've asked already Motorola before I came here for assistance. They said it is having only US warranty. Motorola's warranty isn't global anymore unfortunately. I've to send the phone from here to the US for repairs - this is just terrible from Motorola.
exactly the same problem here and at the same moment, yesterday morning
I have the same problem here. Do you find any solution ?
It is stock ROM, never rooted and no unlocked bootloader.

Solved for me :laugh:: I disconected the battery for about 10 days. Then I conected it again and with the solution " press and hold the volume down button and the power button" but for about 3 minutes, and MAGIC
I've tried this like 5 o 6 times during 2 weeks but at first I only saw the green led on at the top of the screen and a vibration but finally it tuned on yesterday!
This problem was produced after two hard resets due to the hard battery draining cell stanby

Should I press and hold the buttons with the phone charging ? Or disconnect?
Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Mi5.
The device don't respond and the screen is always black, also in fastboot and edl mode (I can recognize the device through cmd). I managed to boot it into both fastboot and EDL mode, MiFlash can recognize it and I flashed from both fastboot and EDL both China and Global firmware 7.5.4 succesfully but the device still won't boot.
The led does not lights up when I charge the phone and the screen is still always black.
The bootloader is unlocked, I tried to flash TWRP and it did it without problem. Then I tried "fastboot boot twrp.img" and it gave me no errors but the screen was still black.
What can I do? Any suggestion is apprecciated and also a paid solution would be ok if there's no other way, I would also be glad to donate to anyone can help me restore the device .
pretty much like my phone last week, stuck in EDL mode. I fixed it by attaching to charger then held power button for one minute
I just tried to hold power button for more than one minute while charging with original charger but nothing happened :c

first link is for the thread that is dealing with this problem...
2nd link is for a person who had this issue and fixed it...
Well, I tried to flash various firmware. China one, Global dev and Global stable but none worked. This night I left it charging and this morning it has a green led blinking. I tried to boot it with power button but it didn't work, the green led become less bright then the stopped blinking.
Now it's still the same as before.
The exact same thing is happening to mine. 3 days ago it turned off with no warning. It's strange that it's all happening at once.
Discharging and recharging doesn't help. I tried that first. i've managed to get my pc to recognise the phone finally by using the test point method to put it into EDL, but like you, i just keep getting errors when i try and flash
I have the same problem, computer recognize bootloader driver, fastboot instalation works, try diff roms but black screen all the time. I change PMI8994 002 Power managment IC, pay aprox. 25€ + chip 5€ and phone works now.

Try Combinations
I'm trying different combinations to turn on the phone it works every time but its totally harassing.
Force Xiaomi Mi 5 to reboot
If the display screen stays black, the trouble often resolves with a forced reboot . To get this done, you will need to press several keys simultaneously. You need to remain at least 10 seconds for the forced reboot to run. The key combination depends upon the versions but had to be one of the subsequent:
low volume + power button
low volume + power button + cough Home
high volume + power button
volume top + touch power + cough Home
touch power + cough Home
I have a Galaxy Note 8 model SM-N950F/DS which I bought on the beginning of 2018 from Qatar with UAE FW, yesterday I was talking to my wife through a video call on Facebook Messenger for almost 1 hour, noting that I was calling her everyday since last January as I'm residing in another country for the whole day and never experienced the following problem except the heat one around 1 or 2 times only just lasts for a few seconds to a couple of minutes!
The phone was standing on wooden stand from IKEA Belgium inside a back cover from AUTO FOCUS and the phone is coated by mobile outfitters (these information may help in the over heating issue) and while we were talking the screen freeze and there were a couple of colored lines in a small area in the top quarter of the screen.
I took the phone and found it over heated from the back side at the bottom quarter and not responding with freeze screen, I searched the internet and found that I can restart the device by holding the power button with volume down button, it worked and the device restarted and gave me a black screen with blue blinking LED then I did use again the power button with the volume down button and it worked but turned off after requesting the OS login pin code.
After that I switched it ON and did the same for around more 2 times then stopped working!
I found on the web that I have to connect it to a wall charger via the original charging cable for around 10 minutes and then try the power button with the volume down, it worked and gave me the charging screen with the phone OFF and it was reading something in 20s percentage so I left it until it reached around 44% then tried to power ON the device again and the same thing happened, it gave me the "Galaxy Note 8" logo then asked for the OS boot pin and after I entered the pin it gave me "starting phone..." then stopped!
I tried to leave it again for 10 minutes in the charger and do the power button with the volume down and it gave me the charging screen again!
I left it until it reached 70 or 77% (don't remember exactly) and then tried to switch it on to the boot menu using the power button + Bixby button + volume up button and wiped the cache partition, after wiping that partition the phone restarted and never came up again!
None of the above worked again! Not leaving it charging for 10 minutes then try the power key + volume down key! Not the power + Bixby + volume up! I even found someone connected the charger for seconds then removed it then pressed power + Bixby + volume down and his phone worked, it didn't work to me!
Overall this, the phone isn't warming up when it connected to the charger back! so either it has a full battery or it stopped charging for hardware failure!
I don't know what to do, I almost tried everything and I can't imagine how it can have a hardware malfunction because of the over heating and worked several times after that! As I'm an electronics engineer I faced this before in certain embedded systems boards but it has to stop directly if there's a short circuit or certain damage in the circuitry.
I hope if someone can help regarding this!
I would bring it in for repairs. Sounds like a fried board.
Happened to my wife's redmi note. Phone was left on car dashboard under the sun with waze running and battery charging. Outside temperature was around 37 degrees celsius. When she reached the destination 1 hour later the phone was too hot to hold.
The phone screen froze. Managed to reboot it but phone never booted up again.
Got it fixed under warranty though.. Was a new phone back then. Change of board fixed it.

Thanks for your response, it seems like this is the only way but since that I have to take an appointment because of the current situation of the pandemic and since there still time for this appointment I though to post the problem here may someone discover a solution to try if the problem still software not hardware!
Now I understood what it really may happened if the problem is hardware and it's obvious now that it's definitely hardware!
If it's a fried board so it seems like the tracks on board was about to damage and this explains why it worked several times, during these several times, the passing current in this fried board starts to lose the connection damaging the board more and more until it became a total loss, which switched the phone OFF totally, so if this explanation is correct I don't think that I have anything to do except waiting until the service center open the phone chassis and look inside!

Could be the integrated circuit board as well. Thousands of mini gold threads in it.

That's what I was wondering from the beginning, if there's a damaged IC from the over heating, how could you explain that it worked several times after the heating issue? Do you mean there was a partial damage in the beginning doesn't prevent the phone from working back again?

Sometimes when something is about to fail but isn't completely dead.. Sometimes it works intermittently.

I have a new update, after I left the phone for around 4 hours since our earlier conversation, I tried the combination of power button + volume down + Bixby key, the phone worked and gave me a green screen, when I pressed volume down to cancel and restart it, it didn't restart but gave my a black screen, I connected the charger and it gave me the charging screen with 0% battery!
Could be a battery issue?! The device was OFF, how did it drain the battery without operation?!

It seems like it still working! Now how can I tell there's no hardware issue beside the battery if it's the problem? Should I wait till the service center too or can I confirm with anything else? I'll leave it until reaches 100% and try to switch it ON while the charger plugged in, so it can boot up again easily!
Could it be the power management IC has something wrong? So it can't operate the phone very well?
After the phone reached up to 93%, I tried to switch it ON in Safe mode, but it didn't continue. I tried to open the recovery menu, it stuck in installing updates 3 times, each time it restarts, after that it could enter but without giving me the menu options, instead in the Android console screen it gave me some errors, the first one was that it can't load the recovery menu with no such file or directory between brackets!
To keep all of you updated with the phone's situation, I went today morning to Samsung Service Center and after they tried to operate it, they said the device is acting weird because it login to the OS then shuts off directly and this could be due to either the main board, the battery, or the operating system, but they refused to receive the phone after they knew that it came from outside Europe, so I took it to a 3rd party Service Center and I'm waiting for them to call me after their analysis!
Today the service center called me to pick up the phone and he said it might be the main board nothing else because the system doesn't load to the to the end, so I told him it might be a partial damage in the ROM so there are some corrupted sectors which prevent the system from logging because the loss of some files, he said yes maybe, then I asked him if he opened the phone he said yes, I asked if he noticed any damages in the main board like burns or anything, he said no!
