So yeah. Oneplus seems to be taking a lot efforts to improve dev support for OP3. What do you think about it ?
Here are the sources BTW :-

Are you planning to buy OP3 because of this thing ?
Let's discuss the development future that can be seen for this device.

Compare to the Oneplus Two, yeah, it seems they learned their lessons. But I really want to see in future what will happened. One other thing: I'm really scared about Oneplus Two development..
Releasing the sources, there is a lot of potential here. I am far from a developer with the Android platform, but the user experience I and many others might seek is to have more control over our personal device. No matter how small great of a tweak, this makes it 10x more adventurous imo.
I personally was able to order one. I am not settled on just Android, as I own Windows and iOS devices, but for what it packs I could not pass up the opportunity.
EDIT: Releasing this may also boost their initial volume in sales too...
There is already an unofficial CM13 Build available, so yeah this is pretty good news!

This is excatly why I bought it. I pray we get the pure nexus rom from beanstown but I know we will get killer development.

This encourages me a bit to get one, but you know, money isn't something to come by easily and I need to see if my assistance is required or desired on this device.
I will get mine in 2 weeks. Happy to development.
My suggestion is to combine the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T forums. Unless the differences between these two devices are extreme (which we have seen are not), I believe it would be beneficial to the whole community to have one forum, under which they can communicate and contribute. This will also help with future support and development of both devices. Most of the subforums will be the same anyway, e.g. Guides, News, & Discussion; Themes, Apps, and Mods; Accessories. So it doesn't make sense to create two separate forums.
What does the community think?

Yes... There should be one forum for both of them. I agree.

Having separate subforums for OP3 and OP3T ROMs would solve the ROM development issue. Other than that there is no need to create two separate forums and divide/fragment the community further. Having one big forum would be more useful in finding answers to questions and have good discussions.
I think One forum is better.
I don't very see the problem w/ combined, but keeping the development section separate is still ideal except if the ROMs are compatible. And from the look of it, this maybe the case. I saw on one of the post with pic show that the 3T has the same model number as the old OP3.
Yes, please. We need a unified community; not a divided one!
You have my vote for combining OP3 + OP3T! Maybe we should make a poll about it so the mods can see it?

Very well put. I also agree about the poll, great idea.
What about the differences in processor, some camera features, battery? I'm all for unity of the community but hope the forum combination won't limit the 3T from anything.... I'm no expert lol

What about them? People can still ask questions just have to put in the specific models. Even in the 3T forum, one still have to ask specific storage size in certain question. I'm sure most of the XDA members know the different enough when asking specific question. As far as the general usage goes, most of the hardware stay the same and are govern by the ROMs. And from what the OP said, after the Nougat update, the software update cycle will be the same. In term of the community ROMs goes, I still suggest they have separate thread unless they are compatible.

Thats exactly how its done in the Samsung sections like the s7 Edge. They have a separate section for (EXYNOS) ROM development and (SNAPDRAGON) ROM development.
Yes im for this. Just 2 subforums for the 3t and normal 3 development and one unified 3/3t development subforum.
I think rom developers could even bring out one rom for both devices and you can choose what device you have in aroma, like it is on s6 and s6 edge. One rom for both devices and you have to choose what device you have in aroma when you flash the rom
I am totally with you, would be much better to combine them
Is there any word on the compatibility of One ROMs on the 3t? What are the chances of an incompatible kernel hard bricking my phone? I want to give it a shot but I'll kick myself if I brick my phone and 2 days from now a stable cm ROM hits the 3t..
If the roms aren't compatible I don't think they should be combined.
It could get really confusing if no one specifies which model they are talking about.
I agree with you !
Just look at the xiaomi redmi note 3 Forum, there is one Forum for 2 different cpu, one with mediatek, the other one with snapdragon 650. One Forum and 2 development under forums.
When it comes to the OP3 and 3T, you can't interchange ROMs, kernels, recoveries, firmware, or anything else device specific without it bricking your device, and with all these inexperienced people agreeing with you, were sure to have a bunch of panicking crybabies in the forums once they turn their beloved OP3s or 3Ts into paperweights.

THIS. Separate the forums - as above poster says - they are NOT fully compatible, so it's best to keep them apart. Confusion will reign and people will brick their devices.

Roms and Software is different, everything else the same

i dont know if its really a good idea. if it can use the same rom why not but otherwise maybe there is some people going to try 3t rom and brick there phone and would cry on dev.

Agree with this suggestion - the ROM should be the same for both but kernel may vary, which can easily be broken out into individual sub forums
In an ideal world, I think your suggestion is good and valid.
Maybe a developer can comment on how similar these devices truly are? If the conversion of a rom from one to the other is easy, I'd say combine the forums. If not, better keeping things separate.
Good idea. (As a user...)

I agree on using the same Q&A, Guides, dev forums for both and separate only on ROMs. Such scheme is used in the Samsung i9300/i9305 forum so why not recreate that.

Why not? The S3 had its LTE variant with 2GB RAM as another sub forum. It shouldn't be too bad.
No.
Hi Guys,
I created a petition to ask Oneplus support Project Treble.
It would be great for the community.
So please sign it and let's see if Oneplus will bring it to us.

They don't want to support it, this means they can sell the oneplus 6 with the latest software

They did this for the 3t. They shipped the 5t with nougat so they can add Oreo and pretend Oreo released after the 5t shipped. This means you only actually get one software update since they skipped one out

Read the post you replied to .he means the 3t they did the same thing as for the 5t unifying doesn't make any difference.
I have signed it. I can't afford to see my phone's software outdated.
Let's put some pressure on them by inviting as many people as possible to sign up this petition.
Done. Let's make some pressure
Done. This is great!
I seriously think you should also post this on the OnePlus Forums though, it'll gain more traction that way imo.
I've signed up also. However unlikely it is to happen we should put on pressure. During the OP5T launch they went on about how they listen to their users feedback... Let's see if that's just hollow words...
Is anyone here a closed group beta tester? Maybe able to use that avenue to highlight this is a highly sought after feature???

I have sign it. They say the same things with Face Unlock and now in the second Oreo beta leaked it is.

I see, but that's why. They need less resources to maintain the two device.

Signed it. Not only custom ROM quality would skyrocket, but Oneplus themselves would have easier time updating in the future.
Signed!
This is completely pointless. Project Treble is only for devices launching with Oreo, OnePlus's next phones will launch with Oreo and will be required by Google to support Treble.
See this Android Police article.
Note the word "current".
See this also, it seems Google are assisting some manufacturers to convert current devices to Project Treble. I doubt OnePlus will be among them, more likely Samsung, HTC, etc. If there was a way to convince OnePlus to convert their current devices this would be how to do it.

Make no mistake that just because they are required to include it doesnt mean they will make use of it. Which most OEMs wont even bother dealing with.
The problem is Google wants one thing and the OEM want something completely different. Google can try to force device updates but in the end nothing will change in the update game because of treble.
Hello. So I just bought one of these for my wife off Swappa. I got her a 128 GB gray one. I must say, I'm now jealous of her phone. I'll probably end up getting myself one come February after I've gotten my tax refund. We had to replace her cheap MetroPCS Alcatel Fierce 4 that she'd set down at Walmart and then forgot to pick back up. What amazes me is that someone actually stole it. Anyway, in not too new; I've come from the oil 2013 Moto G, and I'm still rocking the Nexus 5X as my everyday driver. I'm looking forward to learning about OnePlus and their beautiful phones.
Welcome welcome!
But probably you are new in XDA too, as this is the guides section, so your post is totally irrelevant.

And the sticky at the top of this section "Please read before posting" clearly says NO "Hello" threads. Which this is. It literally doesn't raise any points for discussion, or ask any questions. While we certainly welcome new users (new to this device) and/or valid points for discussion, it doesn't add value to this forum for folks to simply introduce themselves (but does potentially clutter it up, if lots of folks did this).
My advice to the original poster, is to read up on all the great resources available. Then post if you have any specific questions, or specific topics you want to discuss.
Y'all are correct, I appologize. It was late and I was tired (and using the XDA app). I saw the discussion heading so said hello there. At least I wasn't asking for an ETA.
