Installation of binary update failed - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I recently rooted my Z1 via Kingroot (kingroot.net) And replacing it with supersu via terminal emulator method. After opening app, it asks to update binary but always fails and asking to reboot and try again.
Hope someone could help.
Thanks

Yeah, even I don't know why it fails to update binaries. I'm thinking now to downgrade it to KK and flash it using PC

Try to root again with kingroot. After this install TWRP recovery from PC. Choose root permission with SuperSu (or something else) then on your phone will ask root permission from kingroot because SuperSu not work yet. After install recovery try to unistall Kingroot and install SuperSu package from recovery. You must turn on usb debugging when install recovery. Sorry for bad Englisch.

Yeah try that.. Just do it

Nope first flash dual recovery or twrp or whatever you like.

I had this problem too and this is how I solve it
1. Full unroot with supersu and reboot
2. Root again via kingroot v4.52 (mrw script won't work with kingroot v5)
3. Download the latest Supersu.apk from your pc (or phone browser)
4. Rename Supersu.apk to Superuser.apk
4. Replace the old superuser.apk in mrw folder with the new superuser.apk that you just downloaded
5. Run the script again to replace kingroot with supersu and update the binary.

Note, you must have drivers properly installed and make sure your adb recognizes your phone with "fastboot devices"
1. Plug your device into PC and put it into fastboot mode!
2. If you haven't unlocked your bootloader then this will and it will entirely wipe your device!
3. After your bootloader is unlocked, phone will boot cf-autoroot, big red android icon will appear on your screen, wait for it to finish.
4. Reboot, done!
I will update link when chainfire makes official root for 5.0, this is cf-auto-root for 4.4.4, but it works fine
if you are already unlocked you can just run the following command in fastboot:
fastboot boot CF-Auto-Root-mako-occam-nexus4.img
just make sure you extract the img first and it should work.
Touch recovery 6.0.4.7 works fine
Thanks for sharing this info, i have installed cwm and root =),
does anybody knows if Xposed is compatible with lollipop?
the script will bypass the unlock part if you are already unlocked and just flash the img

Ok so the updated CF auto root has patched kernel or just some patches to fix se linux and other patches to enable root..??
Im asking this because the CF auto root is based on KOT49H so will the kernel be replaced by patched kernel from KOT49H??

Chainfire updated the tool. Even if it says it's for version 4.4.4 he's updated it for 5.0. It does alter the kernel to set SELinux to permissible but don't worry about the alterations as it is made for 5.0.

No. 5.0 uses ART as the new runtime which isn't yet compatible with Xposed.

This method did give me root, but broke my camera, had to flash back to factory to get it to work. Don't want to flash cf again in case I end up with a broken camera again.

Weird, my camera is still working here. Running the factory OTA. This did give me root which the SuperSU 2.19 zip didn't (but Super SU gave my root on CM12 fwiw). My bootloader was already unlocked and it didn't wipe anything for me.

Sorry guys if i missed this info...have anybody of you managed to make booting options work like in twrp app or quick boot.
I rooted successfully my N4 today, however booting options don't bring any effect when tapped.
EDIT: reboot command in terminal emulator works as it should though.

Thanks you ^^

Chainfire updated the link with root for 5.0 :
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/#fastboot
I updated auto root link.
Do I need to have a custom recovery beforehand?
I flashed the 4.4.4 image file you provided before and root works fine. Now that chainfire updated it to 5.0, should i flash the .img file of 5.0 again ?? I'm on stock 5.0 and latest TWRP.
Another thing, Before flashing any custom kernel should i flash the root image file again and then kernel.zip file or just kernel.zip file is enough ?? I can try this myself but i don't want to mess-up my new born Lollipop

OTA has come. What now?

The OTA has just come. I have rooted phone with twrp recovery installed.
What to do now?
As I have read the forum, I should from http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-p7/development/recovery-t2811965 install back “Huawei Ascend P7-L10 thanks to XQC”, and that is it?
The phone will be unrooted, so I have to root it again.

OK, thanks. I will do the procedure now.
Regards, and thanks again.
Well, the update has failed.
I am informed to go to the http://www.emui.com/motiondownload.php?mod=restore which doesn't work.
I was able to shutdown the phone and to reboot it again.
Apon booting the phone I got the message that update has failed and by clicking on it I went to the update screen.
Looks like huawei is checking wheather the phone is rooted or something else.
What to do now?
Install stock recovery and then update through OTA. You cannot use OTA with custom recovery.
You didnt read update notes ("make sure your phone has not been rooted...").

I have installed stock recovery in the following way:
1. I have downloaded a zip file (* Huawei Ascend P7-L10 thanks to XQC) from [RECOVERY][ Unofficially Open Recovery TWRP 2.8.1.0 ][ 09/11/2014 ] thread
2. I have unpacked recovery.img from zip file
3. As a root, I have used adb reboot bootloader, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, fastboot reboot
4. Now I have downloaded and started the update
I believe that this is enough.
Do I have to unroot the phone before update?
Is the stock recovery from the twrp thread OK for this update?

After starting the update, the phone boots to the recovery, than:
finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package
instaling update
huawei factory resizing
update failed please try again
I have option to shutdown the phone and that is basically it.

Let's go in this step by step!
1. Confirm which recovery you have installed, 2.3 or 3.0. If you did not flash official Emui 3.0 than you need emui 2.3 official recovery. Official recovery you can extract from official Emui 2.3 ROMs (you will need 2.3 ROM also for flashing).
2. Flash the needed recovery (if needed).
3. After downloading official 2.3 ROM, open it and check if there is a folder "dload". On that folder should be a file "update.app". Copy the folder "dload" together with it's content on the root of your SD card.
4. Go to settings -> update -> local update and start update (local update) , if local update does not work than try force update.
5. Confirm on the forum
How to confirm recovery version?

Did you have ADB drivers installed?
This recovery works fine on my Xperia E1 with latest fw and locked bootloader (Orange PL)
Yes i do have adb drivers installed, I can confirm this because i am able to record with litecam android recorder, which needs adb to work. are there a specific set of drivers maybe? the drivers come with the pc companion app which I have installed

Hi everyone!
First of all thank you very much for your great work on this device!
Here's my problem with my SS E1 D2005 (bootloader not allowed to be unlocked) : I was in 20.1.a2.19 kk 4.4.2 and wanted root. So I downgraded the kernel to 20.1.a.0.47 and tried to get root access with towelroot but the apk said 'this phone isn't currently supported'.
Finally, I downgraded again to 20.0.a.1.21 jb 4.3 and towelroot rooted my device properly. I wanted to install recovery following this tut but it's only for 4.4.2 so not working (no access to recovery and boot loop).
I need root access on the latest 20.1.a.2.19 but I'm stuck in this 20.0.a.1.21 kernel because I can't find a jb recovery allowing me to do updates without losing root access...
Is there a solution for me or not? Can I build my own recovery based on JB sources for my device?
Thanking you in advance.

Download the zip from the link given above.

Now flash the SuperSU zip file from the SuperSU folder.

Yes, it should fix the problem.
Thanks to you, now I have a rooted a1
Update: had some trouble with supersu but now everything is okay. I think even after uninstalling kingroot apps they prevent supersu from updating the binary. I solved that by flashing latest beta of supersu which is 2.49, so I suggest you to attach that instead of version 2.46. Also I suggest you to attach rashr instead of flashify
Can't rootcanvas a1 it says no strategy available
I cant root

Huh? On what terms you're referring?
Like flashing / wiping etc?
Yeah, Philz took some more time than TWRP in the terms of flashing, wiping, etc....
BTW, TWRP is faster than Philz, I would like to suggest you TWRP.
Meantime, I ain't blaming /degrading Philz.. It's the stable recovery we ever got.
I was also a Philz user, but shifted to TWRP Since then...
You know, TWRP got new features like ota installer and etc, which makes you flashing OTA's on the go simple.
Use this TWRP - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24562946973632081

This tool cant directly root your phone, but it can unlock your bootloader and help you to flash a twrp. If you want to root your phone you can flash twrp and then flash the root zip through twrp
Bootloader successfully unlocked
I´ve also flashed this Chinese TWRP with your tool due to my eagerness
and finally rooted with Magisk
@mauronofrio your efforts are really appreciated

Awesome looking tool. I'll be downloading and donating as soon as I get my OP5 on Monday.
I plan on running stock software for awhile but can I simply unlock, flash TWRP, and flash the same SuperSU I always use for custom ROMs?

Yes, i don't know if there are a supersu specific version must be flashed, but yes, unlock the bootloader, flash the twrp and then flash supersu or magisk. I don't know if you need to disable dm-verity before reboot but i think yes
was impatient... and got everything working... unlocked, TWRP recovery, and then Magisk rooted. woot woot.!!
now hopefully there is a working xposed

When you flash the twrp select the options "And boot it" and you will rebooted directly to the twrp, someone say that the TWRP survive for only 1 reboot

You are the first until now. To flash the twrp you need to have an internet connection, because the tool before download the recovery and then flash it. If you have made all of this try to delete the downloaded recovery and flash it again (maybe the download has failed). To delete the downloaded recovery you need to go in the advanced options and use the "Delete Files" (top right of the page) button to delete what you want (in this case you need only to delete TWRP recoveries). Tell me if you solve

Someone said that TWRP will only survive for one reboot. I've flashed yesterday that Chinese TWRP and rooted with Magisk. My experience is that TWRP will stay. I've booted today three times into TWRP. Everything seems to be as normal as it should be.

Perfect so the problem is another one. When the twrp is booted for the first time it automatically delete or hide the stock recovery so if you flash the twrp and you boot directly from fastboot to twrp, the twrp will survive but if you flash the twrp and power one normally the phone the stock recovery will be restored. So when you flash the twrp, directly boot in it, from the tool you need to check "And boot it" option to boot it directly after flash.
