HTC One M7 file transfer problem - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
First of all, thank you Mike for the ARHD 93.0 rom (Android 5.0.2 Lollipop)! Really clean and fast and my HTC One M7 hasn't been faster since when I installed the latest update!
Now for something less fun. When I flashed the rom, everything seemed to work perfectly, it was blazing fast and everything on the phone worked perfectly well.
However, when I tried to move (drag and drop or file transfer through several programs) files onto my device it kept repeating the same sentence 'This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected'.
This does not happen instantly, all drivers were installed properly and when I connect I can quickly transfer a file from time to time before it disconnects again.
So my phone connects fine, but then it disconnects afterwards although I can still browse directories on it. For me it made no sense whatsoever and I have been searching all over the place for a solution.
I have tried the following:
- Turn off USB debugging (as whenever I connect my device it kept asking to trust the computer, with every reconnect it asks me twice and I use 'Always trust this computer' and press ok)
- Used file transfer programs like wondershare mobilego and flashfxp (even) to transfer the files, did not work. Wondershare Mobilego only works with USB debugging off and it finds my device for a second but then also loses it and states it's disconnected.
- Tried reinstalling USB drivers (including HTC sync), windows just reinstalls the drivers and the problem persists.
- Tried changing the drivers within device manager -> Portable Devices -> HTC One. Tried them all, nothing works and problem persists.
- Tried different filetypes, but it just instantly gives me the 'This device has either stopped responding...' message.
During the installation (flashing) there were no problems whatsoever.
The device is always unlocked when I transfer files.
I use windows 7 x64 Ultimate Edition
I have used TWRP to flash the ARHD 93 rom and the only issue I have is it disconnecting all the time so I reckon it's a software issue somehow.
I have tried many things, but nothing worked, and hope there is anyone out there with the solution for me.
Thank you in advance!

Can't install usb driver :(

Everything was fine before until my system got crashed and I had to run XP recovery disk, after the incidence, every time I connect my phone, a window pops up and asks me to install driver for the android phone. I tried everything, every driver from the oldest sdk and the lastest wouldn't solve a freaking problem. It says: Cannot install this Hardware. Fatal error during installation. I did uninstall driver, rollback, update, use "regedit" to remove everything that has "adb" and "android" but none is working. I even go to the C:\WINDOWS and delete the: android_usb, WdfCoinstaller01005.dll and reinstall but still not working. This has been going for 3 months, I scratch my head till it bleeds and did a tremendous of research till the google page burns down, but i can't find a solution. Changing cable and different usb port don't help too. It works on my laptop tho. Can't seem to solve the problem, I never thought i would ask this question here for help. Tell me what you think?
If it was my computer I would just reformat the whole thing instead of repairing it.

I9305 usb connection/driver problem

I've added a few apps to my S3 and altered a few things on my PC and now I can't connect via mtp or ptp. It goes through the usual "installing drivers" and then fails. I've tried pulling the battery and removing the sim and micro sd card then putting everything back. Tried it without the card (currently having to transfer files via a card reader so - at least the card's fine) but to no avail.
I've had a go at uninstalling the drivers through the device manager, rebooting and scanning for hardware changes. I've tried downloading the drivers without kies but it didnt work out (I cant remember the site or the url, but ended up with the following file SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones) It didn't auto install but even when I tried to point Windows to the folder on my C drive, nothing.
I've spent a couple of hours trawling the net including on here and tried all sorts.
I'm rooted, using the stock 4.1.2 ROM with Windows 7.
I can't use Kies as when it was installed the first time it wrecked all my Synctoy sync's so I really could do with another option please guys.
Dial *#7284# on your phone to access PhoneUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom.
Now select 'MTP + ADB' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit PhoneUtil. Your phone is now back to default USB operation.

Thanks for the quick reply.I did that and it was set to mtp + adb...
When I then connected it it tried installing the driver and I got..
Driver device software was not installed.
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed
MTP USB Device X Failed
I tried updating the MTP drivers again from device manager but this time got
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
SAMSUNG Mobile MPT Device
This device cannot start (code 10)
From what I'm reading it's a computer error not the phone. Can anyone suggest a new set of drivers to download (that doesnt involve Kies) as I've had issues with picking up harmful software from random sites when I've been struggling to find drivers.
I tried using the suggestion at the bottom of here r.e.Portable Devices and deleting the Upperfilters string Link but also to no avail.
Oh, and yes I've tried different ports and cables.
Well that's me done for the evening! I've tried everything mentioned in this thread including updating java and windows media player and all the afformentioned stuff but still no dice.
Could it be the actual drivers or a random windows 7 setting that I haven't yet tweaked since my clean install of windows??

The newer drivers don't really wwork with the 9305 so find some older drivers. That works for me
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the tip.any suggestions as to where I can download these older drivers? I'll try the previously mentioned ones first, but I'm starting to think it might be the drivers themselves

The ones I posted work fine on my 9305 so you shouldn't have any issues and as you can see from the site they are nearly a year old.
Try them what have you got to loose, if they don't work you are no worse off

Cheers, yeah, I was going to try them but I wasn't at my pc at the time I wrote that. I've downloaded the exe package but now it seems there are still drivers to uninstall - I uninstalled the drivers through device manager and went into my C drive and removed the SAMSUNG folder with the USB drivers in it. I'll restart the pc and hope that helps with the removal....

Having the same problem. but I am on 4.3 rom using carbon rom a few days then transferred to pac man rom. My cellphone is not detected in my computer but it is being detected in the safely remove usb options. I tried to use a usb otg cable and a flash disk. No notification is seen on my phone but I can access the files on the flash disk (using usb otg cable) in the file manager. Tried the *#7284# but error occurs and says connection problem or invalid MMI code. I found that MTP udb device says failed

It made no difference whatsoever. I used a utility to check for an remove the samsung drivers (USBDeview) as well as uninstalling through device manager and removing with windows "products and features" but even then, when I tried installing the new drivers it mentioned previous drivers. I restarted after each stage of the process.
I've even tried connecting it in download mode and it shows in device manager.
Could there be some remnant of the software I used to root that phone that might be causing the issue??
I'm due to leave the country in 5 days and have loads of things to sort (also have a family member going into hospital for major surgery tomorrow) so I can't just devote all my time to this - but I need to at least know that it's not the phone (I dont have another win 7 computer to try it on).

[Q] HTC One Mass Storage Mode broken since 4.2.2?

This is giving me a major headache right now. I've plugged the phone into the computer via USB to transfer some files, like I do every now and then, but now I can't because it doesn't show up as a drive anymore, and on the phone, the options seem to have changed.
This used to work perfectly fine before. I can only narrow it down to the recent official OTA upgrade to Android 4.2.2. I need mass storage mode for a few things, e.g. my music player on Windows (Media Monkey) syncs with the phone, but now of course it won't recognize it anymore.
What is going on?
- Windows 7 64bit
- Android 4.2.2 stock official OTA un-rooted, un-everything, vanilla
- HTC Sense 5.0
Thanks guys.

It doesnt get mounted as a drive (and never did), it shows up as an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device. Open "Computer" on Windows and at the bottom it will show "MTP Devices", under that there will be your phone.
If it's not, then maybe you need to update HTC drivers, and check your "Device Manager" if the phone shows up correctly under "Android USB Device"
Thanks for the insight - you put me on the right track, and I got it to work now.
It showed up in the device manager, but with an error like you suggested. Unplugging the phone or switching USB debugging on and off hadn't helped (tried that a dozen times before I posted). When I checked the device manager, asking Windows to update the driver via web didn't work out either.
So I unplugged, rebooted both the phone and Windows, and plugged in again. After that, it installed some driver automatically - it worked this time, and now it works again as before. It shows in Explorer / xplorer2 / MediaMonkey as a portable device and I can use it like a drive and drag&drop files. That's what I meant by "drive", thanks for clearing that up ha.
Thank you!

Device Won't Connect to PC

For the past week I've been trying solution after solution found from the net to try and get my HTC One to connect to my computer and show up as a portable device. I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1 with all updates possible, latest drivers and chipset drivers and even installed optional drivers to try and fix the problem. I've tried USB Debugging and nothing happens, tried uninstalling all drivers from USB device manager and reinstalling which also didn't work, tried installing MTP drivers seperatly, nothing happens, tried windows update's htc drivers, they fail to install every time.
My problem in short is, I cannot get my device to connect to the computer so I can use the storage space to add/remove/edit files on my phone.
I've recently tried a program called "DoubleTwist" which actually got the HTC Sync Manager to recognise my phone, but even that shows no storage available.
My details:
Windows 7 SP1 x64 PC,
HTC One in metallic blue 32GB,
HTC MTP Device Drivers Failed
MTP USB Device Drivers Failed x3
Developer unlocked,
USB Debugging On/Off
I can edit in any additional details required.

Umh, connect the phone at the pc, go to Device Manager (windows logo + x -> device manager), and unistall all the voice about the one.
After go to the control panel, and unistall the htc driver from here.
Now, install HTC sync.
For me and other friend worked.
I've tried uninstalling the failed drivers but they still fail every time i plug the device in, It's not really a problem with htc sync manager as I've pretty much given up on that already. My problem is that I can't get my computer to recognize my device, only as a cd drive which is for the installation of htc sync manager and and relevant drivers.
I've tried your solution 5 times before and it doesn't fix the issue as it's the drivers failing to install and the fact it won't accept drivers for my usb device for MTP or pretty much anything related to my device.
Anyone know of away to remove the bad drivers and install fresh working ones without crippling the use of my mouse and keyboard? because windows suggests I remove the usb host controller drivers which kills the use of all usb ports on my computer, meaning i have to replug them in turn re-installing the usb host controller drivers at the same time.
still got the problem of not being able to connect my device and have it recognized, by the computer as mass storage, removable storage, or MTP. that is the real problem I'm trying to fix, after that I may consider trying to get htc sync manager to work.
Any help at all would be nice... Anyone?
I guess my problem is unfix-able then, just to make it clear, i don't give a stuff about the sync manager, i just want to be able to have my computer recognize my phone so i can access it through my computer...

Got the exact same problem, work PC won't recognise the device. Haven't tried home just yet as this is the first it has occurred. Software update a couple days ago.
Called HTC - no dice, they keep saying install HTC Sync and the drivers.
Anyone else come across this issue/have a solution?
I posted in a different thread, but let me sum up again.
I had a couple of people reporting this issue on Win7 - phone connected to USB, came up as android device with exclamation mark in Device Manager. It really made me think what could have happened, because it was working a week before. I tried different cable, different drivers and realized it was something wrong, when even my phone was not recognized on my friend's PC, yet both of the phones (mine & his) were recognized on my notebook with all the cables and config.
It turned out, that he installed malware stuff and the culprit was iLivid and his friends. It blocked the usb connection somehow. After running Malwarebytes in safe mode, which removed a tons of sh*t, everything worked again.

[Q] USB Device Not Recognised

This is getting frustrating now, no matter what I do I get this message: "USB Device Not Recognised"
Here is what I have tried:
Connect on android
Connect as MTP
Different USB cable (5 to be precise)
DIfferent USB port
WebOS recovery
Reinstall Novacom Drivers
Restart PC
Restart Touchpad
I have no idea what else I can try, no matter what I do, this annoying message persists!
Platform? ROM?
What's the ROM you are using? Also, which platform is your PC on? Linux/Windows/Mac?
In case you are on some 5.1.x ROM, I would recommend a nandroid backup and flashing a known 4.4.4 ROM which might tell you if it's your hardware or just Android. If you were on a stable ROM earlier where USB was working, then I would recommend trying that. :fingers-crossed:
Similar Issue.
My TP actually works (sort of) via MTP but it frequently disconnects when transferring files and freezes my explorer window. I tried to use Mass Storage on PAC KitKat FINAL and windows reports that it can't find a driver for it and when I try to reboot into recovery it only mounts a tiny SD Card partition of some 800mb. This probably won't be answered but whatever. I've been trying to solve this issue the past 8 hours. I have nothing to lose.

hi, had some trouble with my win7 PC detecting touchpad (using JC's 4.4 Cm11), although ADB was installed - I couldn't see it as a storage drive despite the driver installing. touchpad was connected via MTP.
what worked for me was on windows - go to Device Installation Settings (drivers) and choose never install from windows update. Then under device manager -> android device -> uninstall. reconnect and it should work properly. hope that helps
