[Q] USB Device Not Recognised - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is getting frustrating now, no matter what I do I get this message: "USB Device Not Recognised"
Here is what I have tried:
Connect on android
Connect as MTP
Different USB cable (5 to be precise)
DIfferent USB port
WebOS recovery
Reinstall Novacom Drivers
Restart PC
Restart Touchpad
I have no idea what else I can try, no matter what I do, this annoying message persists!

Platform? ROM?
What's the ROM you are using? Also, which platform is your PC on? Linux/Windows/Mac?
In case you are on some 5.1.x ROM, I would recommend a nandroid backup and flashing a known 4.4.4 ROM which might tell you if it's your hardware or just Android. If you were on a stable ROM earlier where USB was working, then I would recommend trying that. :fingers-crossed:

Similar Issue.
My TP actually works (sort of) via MTP but it frequently disconnects when transferring files and freezes my explorer window. I tried to use Mass Storage on PAC KitKat FINAL and windows reports that it can't find a driver for it and when I try to reboot into recovery it only mounts a tiny SD Card partition of some 800mb. This probably won't be answered but whatever. I've been trying to solve this issue the past 8 hours. I have nothing to lose.

hi, had some trouble with my win7 PC detecting touchpad (using JC's 4.4 Cm11), although ADB was installed - I couldn't see it as a storage drive despite the driver installing. touchpad was connected via MTP.
what worked for me was on windows - go to Device Installation Settings (drivers) and choose never install from windows update. Then under device manager -> android device -> uninstall. reconnect and it should work properly. hope that helps

[Q] Driver problems

Struggling with getting any computer to recognize my I9000. Both XP and Win7 fails to load MTP USB device. That said XP is not complaining, it loads something that seems generic, "MTP Device" along with Samsung Android USB Modem and Samsung Android USB Composite Device
MTP Device uses files wpdusb.sys and wudfrd.sys . Is this right, or should the device look for diffrent drivers and what files SHOULD it use?
On win7 it displays "Android MTP" as opposed to "I9000" the few time it used to work.
Tried the alternative drivers.
Tried the long file extensions tips.
Did you try disbaling launcher pro / launcher pro? So stock tw launcher is working? And wiping the internal sd? Had issues, but this worked first time on win7
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
TWlauncher/Launcherpro is checked from the list many days ago yes, had it working with Kies only a few days ago (granted after a lot of "tricks" and then suddenly working for no obvious reason).
Been holding off the internal sd format and factory reset. Thats my next step.
No luck. In XP it shows up as "MTP Device" under "Portable devices". Is this how its supposed to look like, or should it be recognized as "I9000"?
And finally. Trick this time was to have Kies running (win 7), also battery where taken out once (telephone locked trying it in XP). Internal SD unmounted, formated, remounter and then factory reset in "privacy".

Just finally solved the same problem for Windows XP. Here the solution:
- uninstall MTP device driver
- I don't know if necessary but I did - remove from windows all related files : wpdmtp*.*
- !!! download Windows Media Player version 11. It contains updated drivers.
- install the player
- connect your device
Now it's recognized in the Device Manager as GT-I9000. And Kies immediately connects to it.
For future reference, how did you uninstall MTP device drivers?
We wont be the last to have trouble with this procedure...
while device is connected you can click right mouse button on it and choose "uninstall"

[Q] USB Debugging/Mass Storage Mode connection to computer issue

Hello folks,
I'm facing this "please insert a disk" issue when connecting my Note to computer via USB Debugging mode / Mass Storage Mode.
I'll let screenshots in the attachment explain itself. #1 shows the screenshot of devices menu when the phone is plugged into the computer in DEBUG mode; #2 shows the screen after I've clicked "connect USB storage" from the drop-down list of the phone; #3 shows what happens when I try to open one of the two "removable disks".
MTP mode works fine, as well as Kies connection. As I finally started exploring the potential of Android platform, I realized that MTP and Kies connection are the most useless connection options for me, and I'd rather leave it in debug mode all day. So has anybody experienced this issue, or had any suggestion on the solution?
As always, many thanks in advance, and many thanks button clicks afterward!
p.s.,
Desktop OS: Win7 Pro X64 SP1
Note: 2.3.6 Stock LB1 Open Germany Firmware, CF rooted LB1 kernel.
Also, I should have all the latest official device driver from Samsung, as I have the latest version of Kies installed (and I discovered a driver folder under Kies' installed location). I'm not so sure about adb driver, but I was able to find the Note to be listed under devices by typing "adb devices". So.. I don't know where could've gone wrong.
Help anyone?
This really sounds weird... I was facing problems of the Galaxy Note not being detected on several Windows7 32/64-Bit SP1 computers as well but this was gone after I installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.
You are right - from all that i know all required drivers should be available when KIES is installed on your system. Whatis even more strange is that your device seems to be detected as two partitions are available and are displayed in Explorer...
So I would test the following:
- check if your device manager lists any unknown devices
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
- check all available USB ports and see if this solves the problem
- try another USB cable
- make sure your (external) SD card is formatted with a Windows compatible file-system e.g. FAT32
Hope this is helpful and helps solving your problem.
Thanks for your reply!
My device manager basically listed all the drivers/devices associated with the phone:
My Device manager shows devices:
Samsung Android Composite ADB interface
Android UMS Composite USB device (x2)
SAMSUNG Android USB Modem
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Mass Storage Device (Android)
I've attached the screenshot when all the drivers being installed when the phone is firstly connected to the computer. Also in the device manager, everything shows "this device is working properly"
I then decided to test with another Note of my friend's (On the same computer). Her Note has no SD card in it, and is completely stock ROM non-rooted LA4 Open Germany firmware. The same thing happened.
One thing worth mentioning: Yesterday, this worked only for once. When I initially encountered this issue, I restarted my computer, and boom, my phone was connected in Debugging mode! However, once disconnected, and I tried to connect it to the computer again, this issue came back. And afterward, no matter how I restart my computer, the phone won't get connected.
I also tried all USB port (USB 2.0 and 3.0), three different cables (2 of them are Samsung OEMs) and failed to address the issue.
I'm nearly exhausted but I will never give up, as this is my only computer and my only phone (haha), and without solving this issue, I'm never gonna be able to view the phone as a USB storage and easily transfer the file from my computer to the phone.
I'm going to try the last thing that I haven't done from the list you posted:
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
I believe that I can keep the driver folder in the Kies' folder, as I believe those are the newest Samsung driver, given that the Kies was the latest release version.
So far, I can only conclude that this issue is not related to specific phone but the Windows 7.
And thank you for your help btotaku!
If anyone has any insight into this issue, please help me. Thumbs up for you!
BTW, I was able to extract both SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe from under Kies' installation path under Program Files x86 folder, and an uncompressed folder of all kinds of drivers for Samsung device, called "USB Drivers".
And looks like I was wrong. The newest version of SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones I had was 1.4.8. While the driver that came with the newest Kies was 1.4.103
I'll post back soon
Reinstal Windows on your PC bro.
Problem fixed.
is that your internal memory or the sd card?
Same thing happens either with SD card in the phone or not

[Q] USB Connection Problem after update to Cyanogenmod 10.2.1

Folks,
I just updated my phone from a previous Cyanogenmod 10 to Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 with a full wipe/factory reset.
After the update I tried to re-install Google Apps to backup my Apps, contacts and setting. However, I cannot get a USB Connection with Win7 64 Bit. I have tried on two computers thus far.
I have reinstalled the drivers, have enabled USB-Debugging Mode but the Drive would not come up so I cannot copy the gApps File onto the SD card. I do not get an Unknown Device Error but when I connect the phone two "shaded" drives appear in windows but cannot be accessed.
Any ideas?
P.S.: Odin finds the Device in Download mode. Is there a way to flash the gApps File via Odin?
try booting into recovery and fixing permissions, not saying it will work but you could try.

MTP Mode not working

I've had my L90 for about two months now, and I'm happy to have it after owning an S2 which has had a faulty USB port and crashed almost daily. The only problem with the L90 was the small internal memory. To remedy this, I bought a SanDisk 32 GB MicroSD, which arrived yesterday. It worked well, the first thing I did was put the first 5 seasons of Adventure Time onto the SD card (~13 GB of .mp4 video) in about an hour and the files played fine in MX Player. However, some problems began to arise after this.
The phone would say that it's in MTP mode, and my computer would show that it was connected, but opening it in Explorer showed me a blank window. Keep in mind that these problems began after mounting the SD card. In addition to this, any attempt to move music would end in the middle of the process because the phone would "disconnect", and any attempt to move an .mp4 file would come up with an error saying the device "didn't support" that file, despite being able to play them previously.
I have tried multiple USB ports on my computer, rebooted my phone, installed the LG drivers (which I feel haven't done anything, as they don't show up anywhere), and nothing seems to work. If anyone could help me out with this, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Update on situation:
The phone's problem now is that it will show up in My Computer, but then disappears after a few seconds, as though it has been disconnected, yet it's still plugged in and charging.

I don't have a custom recovery installed.
I'd suggest uninstalling all LG drivers. Reboot your PC and then run the driver installation program again. DO NOT connect your device to the PC just yet. Reboot PC once more. After PC starts, connect your device in "Charge phone" mode. Let the drivers install. From the "PC connection -> Select USB connection method" screen on the device, select "Media sync ( MTP )" and let the drivers install. Do the same for the remaining two connection methods. Once all drivers are installed, just for sanity, reboot PC one last time.
If that method doesn't work, then a factory reset may need to be done. This can be done in one of two ways.
1) With device booted :: Settings -> Backup & reset :: select Factory data reset
2) See this post for instructions on how to perform a factory reset with key combos.

I've done everything up until installing the drivers from the phone. When it's first plugged in in "Charge Phone" mode, should I hit the button in the top right to install the PC software? Or should I go straight to the other drivers? I'm asking because when I plugged it in with "Charge Phone" mode on, nothing installed.

I did everything you said, installed drivers, reset my computer and phone, and the problem persisted, it showed up, and then the window closed and nothing showed up. Will I have to factory reset it or is there anything else I could do?

With fresh drivers and you're still having issues then I'd say it can be one of 3 things:
1) Bad MTP driver on Windows. Hard disk fragmentation can cause issues like this. Try running Defrag on the Windows installation drive. Usually ( C: )
2) #1 didn't fix it? Try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player. MTP only works with Windows XP 32 bit and Windows Media Player 11, and newer 32 and 64 bit Windows versions with Windows Media Player installed.
3) #1 and #2 didn't work??? Possibly a hardware issue on the device.

Should I install the MTP toolkit? Also, I'm running a defrag on my C: drive, and I have Windows 7 64-bit, and I'm not totally sure on how to uninstall and reinstall WMP. If none of this works, I'll just factory reset it and hope it solves it.
you are using lockscreen lock or something????

Driver issue

Hi all,
First a quick info:
The Problem -- Nexus 6 internal storage doesn't show up when connecting to my main desktop computer.
I have had my Nexus 6 for almost a year now and since the beginning I couldn't make my main computer to recognize the phone's internal storage.
Whenever I connected the phone to another computer, the driver installed just fine and I was able to access the internal storage.
I previously had a first gen moto g and I thought the problem was because the moto g drivers were causing some mess with the Nexus so I uninstalled the old drivers and plugged my nexus so windows automatically downloaded what is shown as "Google Nexus ADB Interface" under Android device in Device manager.
I also have installed Android SDK tools in my PC since I had the Moto g and I cant remember how many times I have updated it. The Google driver is shown as installed.
The device is unlocked but not rooted.
Here comes the weird part... If I have USB debugging enabled then I can see the camera files in my PC when I choose PTP in USB configuration. However.. if I disable USB debugging then I can't even see the pictures.
I have tried selecting PTP and changing back to MTP as suggested in some threads with no luck.
I also tried turning the device off and then boot into fastboot, then plug the phone into the computer as this worked in some other computer.
This is driving me crazy, I know this is a computer related problem but I don't know what else to try.
Could you help me please?
Thanks

Install the Nexus Root Toolkit on your PC.
In a sub directory of that kit you will find several usb drivers. Do some trial and error with those drivers.

Hi, thanks for the reply,
I forgot to tell that I tried that one too.
I followed the driver installation guide step by step with no luck.
Tried the recommended solution at step 3 of the guide and since it didnt work then I tried the manual installation with a couple "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" devices that are shown under Other Devices in Device manager

Because it works on a different PC. I assumed a driver issue.
My Suggestion is to install the driver manually.
Open the device manager.
After connecting you must see a change in the device manager. If not change USB-port and/or cable. And change on the Nexus 6 the charging
mode to data mode.
When still no 'internal storage' back to device manager and update the driver by right clicking. Try automatic and search on my computer - navigate to the drivers in NRT.
