[Q] HTC One stuck on 'HTC One' boot screen after update

Hello everyone,
My HTC One M7 is stuck on the boot screen and I really don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I deleted some music and 4gb of pictures from my phone to make some space. After that I checked for updates It said an update was available regarding some bugfixes and other issues. I let it download and install. At the end of the install process, I think I saw just the normal updating screen, but with the red pyramid exclamation mark icon. After that, it rebooted just like normal, first the white HTC screen, then the startup sound, and then the white HTC One screen. Only this time it didn't go further than that. My phone is not rooted or tampered with in any way. The only thing I did is download some cracked apps. Also I think I didn't update most of my apps for 2/3 weeks because I didn't have enough 'memory space' apparently.
I know a factory reset is the easiest thing to do, but if it's possible, I'd really like to fix the problem with all my data intact. My pictures etc are all back upped, and I have the HTC backup thingy (I think), but still, there's some things like WhatsApp messages I'd really like to keep.
I tried to just let it boot, maybe taking a little longer, but after 2 hours, the device gets pretty hot, and I'm afraid to let it overheat. However, after maybe half an hour/hour the white screen gets a bit brighter, indicating that there's still maybe something happening inside.
I'd be very happy if someone could help me with this!

In your phone's present state if you can not get back to Android OS, then your best option is a factory reset. You will lose your personal data on the phone.
Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons
If you can’t turn HTC One on or access settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the hardware buttons on HTC One.
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and then press and hold the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

To be honest some of those cracked apps (which I wouldnt admit to use here) most likely changed things in the system which caused the update to fail. I would do a full wipe and stay away from cracked apps unless you like things like this happening.

It's just the standard 'a friend told me it was a good idea', only I didn't know it could screw up the system so hard.
I just tried wiping the cache partition in recovery mode, which unfortunately didn't help.
Is there any program out there that can still backup my files in some way or make me atleast access them? Or was it necessary for me to root the phone beforehand?
So, there's no program to still backup my files in any way?

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do, If you had a Custom Recovery you'd have some options but not with stock. Flashing a custom recovery requires an Unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device
At best you may be able to use an RUU to restore your device (depending on you CID, MID and current version Main) But that also will wipe all personal data including the sd card.
Well I realized that the only thing I could do is doing a factory reset. After resetting my phone, the problem persisted. It was still stuck on the boot menu. So unfortunately, I'll have to send it for repairs. Thanks anyways for all the help and have a happy 2015.

Did you send your device for repair already? Does it have warranty? If there's no warranty you can still unlock your bootloader and fix this fairly easily.

Yeah I sent it already. Well it should have warranty anyway, since they give you 2 year warranty with the phone, and the HTC One isn't even out for 2 years. It should be okay. I just wanted to let them fix it, so I don't have to bother. Thx anyway. :good:

[Q] Moto X turning off suddenly

Hi all, I need help.
It happened a couple of days ago that overnight, with aero mode on, my not rooted xt1053 didn't wake me up since it just turned off sometimes before the alarm. Even if it had never happened before (just one week before it reached the amazing uptime of 650 hours without any reboot), I decided for a factory reset, since it's very important to me that it works as an alarm too. Yesterday, after the factory reset, it turned off while using whatsapp, all on a sudden. Tonight, it happened again, and I missed the alarm again.
Everytime I turn it on, I have the notification that Google Maps stopped working, or alternatively Google Keep. Battery is always at the same level it was before, I mean, it's still charged with at least 50% battery when this happens. Now I tried to uninstall Google Keep to see if there was something wrong with the last update, but it seems strange to me that it may be the cause.
Does anyone has any idea of what to do?
Any help would be really appreciated.
I have the SAME exact problem. Don't know why...

I tried uninstalling most of the apps, but it still happen. I've tried with brazilian soak test, but it still happens.
What should I do to understand the problem? I was thinking about going back to the original rom and try to use it in safe mode...do you think it could help?
With the brazilian lollipop soak test, I do not have any Maps or Keep stopped working once turned back on. Moreover, last times it did happen during the day, while in my hand or on the desk. Twice a day, more or less.
Please, help!
Mine has the same issue. Maps will randomly force close, or just crash back to the home screen. Usually though, Google Maps locks the phone for 30 seconds and then it reboots.
Happens twice a day. It got so bad that I've given up on my Moto X and bought an LG G3. Now I'm sitting on a boot loader unlocked Moto X xt1060 that literally will not last half a day without randomly rebooting.
It does this on any firmware, custom or stock.

I've bought a Z3 Compact too in the meantime, but I still would like to fix the Moto X since is a beautiful phone otherwise. It's a shame this thing of rebooting or randomly turning off, since I need a reliable phone... It was just two weeks ago that I reached 30 days without turning off and with any rebooting. I can't believe there's nothing I can do to fix it, it doesn't seem an hardware issue...
I'm not so sure my issue isn't a hardware problem. I've never dropped it, but its gotten wet a couple times by accident. (Rain, spilling things on my lap, etc...) I'm notoriously horrible with phones though.
Its always worked afterwords, though. And the reboot problem just recently showed up randomly.
I also had an issue making or receiving a call. I could use data, send MMS and SMS, but it would not make or receive a phone call.

Ear speaker stopped working after update to 5.1

Well I updated my Moto X XT1092 to 5.1 yesterday. Since then, the ear speaker has stopped working during both incoming calls and outgoing calls. I can hear everything clearly while on loud speaker, however i can't hear a thing while enabling the ear speaker. The person I am talking to can hear everything though. After the update, i cleaned the device using clean master. I haven't done a factory reset yet and haven't done anything in the recovery either, hoping there is an easier fix to it. Can anybody help me fix it?
I am having the exact same issue. But in my case the earpiece worked initially and suddenly stopped working from yesterday. I tried rebooting the phone as well as rebooting in safe mode. Both didnt help. I also tried to clear the cache and data for the phone and dialer app, which didnt help either? I am planning to do a factory reset. Will that have any impact? I was on 5.0 pure edition when i sideloaded the 5.1 soak LPE23.32-14.
I forgot to mention that the earpiece worked initially in my case too. I did make one phone call and everything was fine till that point. And then it all started few minutes later. I did an ota update and I really wasn't expecting such issue. So if clearing cache and the dialler didn't help you fix the issue, I guess our only option is to factory reset. Let me know if factory resetting fixes the issue.

UPDATE:Finally got it working after updating to the latest build 23.16.3 posted in the general section
Nothing has worked for me so far. Is your phone xt1905? Well mine is xt1902 and I had updated it through ota before the entire issue started, and the build is 23.16.1. So I guess I'm already on the latest build. Do you have any suggestion regarding what i should do?

Someone over in the Motorola forums suggested checking to see if hearing aid compatibility was enabled in the settings of the dialer, and disabling it if it was.

please note : Go to dialer and disable hearing aid, earpiece will start working.
No need of factory reset
I haven't updated to 5.1 and hearing aid isn't enabled.. Only thing I can think of is the dictionary update wifi required notification being the last thing that was done before losing sound in the ear piece. To remove dictionary updates is there a specific app I can clear data from?

You legend, this worked! I've been trying everything. How the hell did they get enabled during the 5.1 update?
I found it a bit weird that it was working after factory reset and then suddenly stopped.
found this thread because my earpiece stopped working today. stock android 5.1 att moto x 2014. tried a bunch of stuff (hearing aid, wipe cache, reboot,..) didnt work. What did work for me was as simple as it gets. in my settings i turned everything off except cell signal (wifi, blutooth, location, screen rotate...) tried a call it worked. Dont know why or how but it did. havent tried turning everything back on yet. a bit scared to. Hope this helps someone.
!!UPDATE!! I do not think that helped . went out again and turning everything off didnt work.... So i back tracked to what I did before turning everything off. that step got my speaker back again for now at least. What that step was is i called my voicemail and inserted headphones in and out a couple times. I am thinking that the dialer thinks there are headphones plugged in so no speaker. I also believe it has to do with the dialer software since all other sounds and apps come out loudspeaker. using internal speaker test app internal speaker does not work when it is out. If it goes out again i will try headphones in that app to see if that resets it.
on I side note i just realized all my homescreen apps and widgets are gone. they are still installed just not on homescreen
So did anyone reach an effective solution regarding this issue or determined the root cause? It just happened to me today and i have been trying everything i have read online but nothing worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
what finally worked for me was cleaning headphone jack. you can do this at your own risk. i pulled most of cotton off a qtip. put alcohol on it and cleaned it. i did not think this was problem because any app that used the loudspeaker worked even calling worked with speakerphone. so my thinking was it is not dirty but i cleaned it and have not had a problem for about 2 weeks now.

Found the solution, it was water damage actually.
My mom forgot to tell me that water went in through the headphone jack.
And as water conducts electricity the phone thought headphones were plugged in. Cleaning it with a cloth and a toothpick and then shaking the phone a few times fixed it.
I think that's why cleaning your headphone jack fixed it as well affiatic, water went in probably.
My friend is suffering from the same situation.
1. Tried clearing data + cache for dialer app.
2. Hearing aid compatibility disabled.
3. Did factory reset.
Nothing has worked so far.
Can anybody elaborate the solution suggested in the below link? (Im getting 403 error opening the link.)

Have you ever tried to make or receive a call on your Moto X and you hear nothing on the other side, almost as if there isn’t even a connection made? Then when you try to call again, for some reason it works?
If you have experienced this, you also understand how frustrating it can be when you have to hang up and dial again, just to make a simple call. This problem plagued me for months of owning my 2014 Moto X, searching everywhere for a resolution to this hugely annoying problem. It wasn’t only me who was experiencing this issue either. A friend with the same phone was having the exact same problem as I, however it was impacting them even more, since it was used for their business. At this point, I figured that it wasn’t only the both of us experiencing the issue, but potentially many others owners as well. After much more searching, I came across a similar issue on a different phone, which listed some ideas to fix the issue. To my surprise, when I completed the process, the problem was fixed and has yet to return. Here is what I did…
Fix Inability to Hear Calls on Moto X
I had tried many different things to fix this issue, such as switching from Dalvik to Art, then back to Dalvik again. Rebooting the phone also didn’t seem to help much at all. Now for what fixed the error (scroll below for the steps).
First, I wanted to clear all cache, as that can sometimes fix simple issues. After I had entered the Recovery menu and cleared the cache, I noticed the problem had stayed away for a bit longer than a reboot, but eventually it came back again. Next, I put the phone into Safe Mode. Once the phone rebooted into Safe Mode, I shut down the device and plugged it in to my wall charger for two hours. To my surprise, after two hours when I turned my phone back on and tried making a call, I could hear the other side. The problem was gone and has yet to return, months later.
Anybody that has experienced this same issue, should try the steps below. It may just make your phone much less frustrating to operate.
Putting the Moto X into Recovery Mode to Delete Cache:
1. Power off your phone, by pressing down the power button until the power menu pops up and selecting*Power Off.
2. Wait a few seconds, then proceed to next step.
3. Hold down the*Volume Down*for a second, the while still holding down the*Volume Downbutton, also hold down the*Power Button*for about 3 seconds, then let go of*Power Button. If you did this correctly, you will see the*Boot Menu.
[http://salloiacono]4. Press the*Volume Down*button, until you have*Recovery*highlighted. Then pressVolume Up*to select*Recovery.
5. Your phone will appear to reboot and you should see this little guy.
Don’t worry, you didn’t break anything.
6. Now you must enter the*Recovery Menu.
– For Android 4.4.4: Hold down the*Volume Up*button for about 10-15 seconds and while holding that down, press the*Power Button. You should see a new menu pop up.
– For Android 5.0: Hold down the*Power Button*for a few seconds and while holding that down, press the*Volume Up*key. You should see a new menu pop up.
7. Press*Volume Down*until you have*Wipe Cache Partition*highlighted, then press thePower Button.*Your phone will now reboot. It is time for the next step.
Putting your Moto X into Safe Mode
1. Once your phone has fully rebooted, you are now ready to put your phone into*Safe Mode. Hold down the*Power Button*until thePower Menu*pops up. Now press and hold thePower Off*button.
2. After a few seconds, you should see a new window pop up warning about*Safe Mode. Press*OK. Your phone will now reboot intoSafe Mode.
3. Once your phone reboots into*Safe Mode,Power Off*your phone.
4. With your phone powered off, plug it into your wall charger for 2 hours.
5. After 2 hours, you may unplug your phone and turn it back on. Now you should be able to make and receive calls without the issues you were experiencing before!
Hope this works as well for you as it did for me!

Trying to save files while stuck in soft brick

First, I will say that i'm not a developer. I am familiar with backups, rooting and custom roms. I'm just at a total loss with a total loss phone :/
So here's the rundown of my issue/s with my Moto Turbo (XT1254)
The phone is completely "unmolested." My phone is stuck in boot loop, currently. I did bust my screen a few weeks back but it had been working just fine. I picked up my phone to check texts, and I saw the "updating 24 of .... apps." Once finished, it's been stuck in a boot loop since. (Odd thing, my screen now shows split Moto image when trying to boot. Ex: a slot machine with only 2 roller wheels that wont match up)
I have tried to clear the cache several times with no luck of it booting up correctly. I do have files that I was trying to recover since they are not linked to a cloud account, and was trying to avoid a full on reset. I did, however, get frustrated and even tried to reset it back to full factory settings. That did not work either. So, all this being said, I'm back to trying to recover my files (my daughter's first year of life, family stuff, etc), since I cannot get it to even preform a factory reset. Does anyone have some guidance or same issue on this matter? Again, I am trying to salvage my files now while stuck in soft brick / boot loop status.
Thanks any and all who can help me with this!
******* Solved********
I have better diagnosed and fixed my own issue. I'm sorry I don't have pictures or video to better document what I did, but in short, it was as simple as replacing my damaged screen/digitizer, with a new one.
My theory was that during the update, the phone checked over it's systems and found that the digitizer was non-responsive in a few very small areas (this I already knew from using it a couple weeks with the screen damaged) and it somehow caused it to go into a boot-loop. My experience with fixing Playstations 3's, helped shed some light on this for me. I had a PS3 i thought was in good working order, updated firmware to it, and it bricked the system. Come to find out, the blu-ray laser head was no good. Upon the firmware doing system checks, it found that was bad and ended up bricked.
I did replicate the problem by switching the broken screen and new screen back and forth 2 more times after the initial fix. Upon disassembly, (youtube for teardown vidoes) you disconnect the battery from the logic board anyways, so when you boot the phone up, it does a app check and system check again. Every time the damaged screen was connected to the logic board and then powered on, it would end up in boot loop. The new, undamaged screen, would do the required checks, then boot up like normal.
I will do my best to borrow/rent a camera soon, so I can make a short video to show this works.
I'm not going to promise this will work for everyone but with replicated results, hopefully it's a fix for someone!
I hope

Moto G 2014 stuck in a reboot/erasing/reboot loop after security update

Hi. I've read other messages on this board and it didn't seem like any were describing the exact same problem that I had, but I, admittedly, only half understand some of the messages (maybe quarter-understand when it gets to the more techy stuff). So apologies in advance if this is a duplicate thread.
I got a notification this morning saying that an update was available for my Moto G 2014 (its the 8GB memory 1GB RAM version, not sure what model that is?). After the update, the screen went to "no command" with the picture of the dead android with his chest open. The internet told me that this seemed to be a fairly common problem, and that I could go into the Recovery menu and delete the cache partition and then, if that didn't work, delete the phone to factory settings.
I did that, and now the phone is in a loop of restarting (to the blue Moto logo), then turning off, restarting to the same screen, turning off, then coming up with an Android screen saying "erasing", with a picture of a standing android and a spinning blue thing coming out of his chest.
I can, occasionally, get it the phone to go to the Boot Mode or the Recovery Menu, but this is unreliable and whatever I do seems to bring it back to the same loop.
I'm not really up with the techy terms, so I don't know if this is a "hard brick", whether flashing ROMS is possible (and if so how to do this) etc.
If I have to buy a new phone I have to buy a new phone. I was considering that anyway. But I'm quite upset cos there was quite a lot of sentimental stuff on there (pictures of my mum, pictures from holidays and so on) that I would want to keep, so I'd be really grateful for any help that people can provide.
Thanks very much.
