Completely untouched phone from AT&T. Have never rooted or modded this phone in any way.
The update that came out this month was sending my phone into random boot loops. Would have to take the battery out and after a few tries it would stay on for a while then at some point in the day randomly go back to the boot loop.
I backed everything up through Kies then went into the recovery menu and attempted a factory reset. This sent the phone into a permanent boot loop -- would never turn on or off. Sammy logo flashes and it would reboot. Only way to get it to stop is to take the battery out.
Attempted to go back to 4.4 through Odin since those where the only firmware files I was able to find. Updated failed. Now, when I turn it on and I just get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again."
Kies will not recognize phone. Cannot update firmare from internal storage because I can't even get into recovery menu -- it just goes right back to the same screen.
Called AT&T and the rep told me he would replace the phone through warranty even though I was past my warranty date. He told me this update has messed up a lot of phones and this is not the first he's of it. Then his manager gets on to approve the warranty replacement and she refuses to honor his promise -- tells me they won't do it, I'm SOL, and I can use my upgrade. Maddening!
Please help -- I need a working phone!

Most attempts to downgrade only flash the kernel so here is the OF2 kernel which should get your phone to boot again. Flash with Odin:
G900A_OF2_Stock_Kernel
Once your phone boots place the G900A_OC4_tF2_OTA.zip onto your extsd card and flash as update from stock recovery. That should get you back to 100% factory stock. Do a factory reset after flashing and if it still does not work I suspect a hardware problem.

Thank you for the reply!!
Kernal flash worked and I was super excited to get back to recovery menu -- way more progress than I've had up until now!
Unfortunately when it went to reset after installing the update from external storage, it went straight back into the Sammy logo boot loop
Is there physical damage on the phone, thus why att didn't do the warranty?

Take it to Best Buy or an ATT Store and have them reflash it before you toss it away. Good luck

No idea what just happened. I've been messing around throwing the kernel you recommended at it as well as the stock partitions. Kept getting back to boot loop but at one point it stuck out, said it was upgrading, optimizing apps, and now it's running. So weird.
I'm way too scared to do the factory reset at this point, though.
Thank you again for your help, I really appreciate it!
Edit: Unplugged the USB cable and it immediately shut off and went back into boot loop. Wow.
this sounds like a hardware problem.. i sent my phone to Samsung and they actually repaired it, it was the pba board, i had the same problem.. i flashed everything it needed to recover from a bootloop. and sometimes it would become non responsive. go to best buy and see what they tell you.

Update:
Thanks to everyone for their replies. I was able to get the phone to boot thanks to everyone's help. Did this by flashing kernel then partitions which would allow the phone to boot.
I finally figured out that the phone would only boot if plugged directly into a power source. As soon as I disconnected the power cable, it would send it right back into the boot loop. I ran some battery "repair" and "calibration" tools but these did not fix the issue. Whenever I would run a battery drain tool, the stress on the battery would cause the phone to shut down.
All of this led me to believe it was an issue with the battery. I held my wife's S4 battery to the contacts on the S5, and it works just fine, even disconnected, and even with the stress test on the battery.
SO -- I'm going to buy a new battery and see if this fixes my problems. I think I just had the perfect storm of battery issues coupled with firmware problems.
I'm pretty sure I know what caused the battery to go haywire. I work in a max security prison and have to leave my phone in the car all day. Outside temperatures regularly hit 105F+ during the summer, so who knows how hot it's getting in the car. Obviously I always leave the phone turned off, but I suspect the high temperatures caused the damage.
Going to try to find a new battery today. Will keep everyone posted! Thank you again for all of the replies.
I had the same issue and would just like to thank you for the files! They helped me unbrick my phone! Much appreciated.
Hello,
Today, while I was using my phone, it restarted itself and has been stuck at a boot loop almost entirely since then. It has successfully booted up 2-3 times but will usually restart itself within 30-45 seconds of booting and then will be stuck in a boot loop again. When it has started up its usually after it has been bootlooping for a while. I'm rooted and using xTreme Rom v2.0. I have had occasional random reboots here and there before but the phone always booted right up again without any issues. I haven't done anything with root/recovery since early September.
I've tried doing a factory hard reset without any luck. My phone booted up after I tried the hard reset and it was like the reset didn't happen. I can't boot into TWRP. I can boot into download mode and I tried to reset using kdz. It got to 100% but the the phone restarts and is back in the boot loop (then the lg flash tool gets an error and force quits). I've tried removing my sd and sim cards, I've tried swapping to a different battery, I've tried leaving the battyer out and letting the phone cool down. Nothing is working. I have noticed that when the phone is going to boot up correctly the full LG animation plays. When the phone is going to boot loop I only get a static LG Powered by android image.
Any suggestions?
Since I tried to rest using kdz I can't get past the boot loop...Device also isn't recognized when using adb
edit: It booted up once this morning and went to the initial set up screen, like the kdz worked. But about 30 seconds-a minute later the phone locked up, rebooted and has been stuck in a boot loop since.
That's weird..
So the KDZ goes through all the way successfully.
Phone does the update all apps etc.. and it still boot loops after a while?
Which ROM version are you updating it back to?
My phone just did the exact same thing. I'm also on the Extreme Rom. Everything you described is my experience too. When I use the LG tool it goes all the way through and reboots the phone but just keeps bootlooping. Did you find a fix? I've tried everything i can think of. Probably going to take it in tomorrow and get warranty on it.

I used the following method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848
Download the correct KDZ file to flash back to and follow the rest of the instructions. You can also look at this video tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXO2SHqBiNk
The one you'll want to try is "Normal Flash"
"CSE Flash" is a full wipe that deletes all data.
Mine was weird where it told me my phone disconnected, but the progress bar was still continuing. If that happens to you, don't hit cancel, let the progress bar finish to 100%
My S6 edge is in a bootloop. I put off the 5.1.1 OTA for a while when my wifi would not turn on. Rebooted, still didnt work. I decided to do the update. installation went great but now its in a boot loop. I flashed the firmware (BOG7) using Odin. It worked. The phone was back on again but then it shut off after a few hours.
Its been stuck in the bootloop again. I flashed BOG7 again. Ive Flashed BOG9. Ive flashed the stock PIT. Ive tried ADB sideload. Smartswitch and Kies do not recognize the device. Of course, Ive wiped cache and factory reset. Attempted booting in safemode. All flashes were successful but when it reboots, It says "erasing" and goes to bootloop (Samsung powered by android).... Drivers are installed and working. MTP is not installed and I cant find the file.
Please .
same problem
I'm having the same problem with boot loop on g925v stock. I'm wondering if the op or anyone else can help!
No mater what I do, phone reboots after almost exactly 1min9 sec. Just enough time to select a language, but not get past the next "activation" screen.
Background: Phone has never been rooted, at first was on og5 and started freezing on the verizon logo, so I factory data reset, and after that nothing has really changed. knox has not been tripped, frp not tripped
First I tried flashing og5 with odin,
(of course checked md5, and odin=pass, then after flashing, I always tried several combinations of booting to recovery for wipe cache partition/ factory reset / and also power down by holding volume down and power button, then select boot in safe mode)
Then tried flashing og7, still boot loop
then tried flashing og9, 3 times, again, also many attempts of factory data reset/ wipe cache partition / safe mode.
I am starting to think this may be a hardware problem, BUT unfortunately I do not have samsung warranty available on this phone so I am pretty much stuck messing with it.
In researching the issue, I have run across quite a few similar freeze/boot loop problems all over the web, and never any real solutions, for both g925v, g920v, and other s6 models. I've also seen a stock s6 g920v that freezes randomly, flashing stock og9 never helped, owner was planning to replace the battery and see if that helps (I have not heard back).
I've tried looking at the boot log but I'm no expert. I know I can't downgrade, but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do with adb, or any other bootloaders that I could try flashing over the og9 (even if just temporarily, assuming I will flash stock og9 again after).
Thanks for any encouragement, help or advice.
I finally gave up on my GS6 Edge because upon carefully taking it apart for the 3rd time I noticed physical damage up by the wifi receiver and SIM card slot. My advice would be to try the things I tried (above) and, if it's not a hardware issue, it may fix the problem. Good luck.

Hello. After rebranding my phone from PRA-AL00X to PRA-LX1 it's stuck on the Factory reset screen after it gets to 99%. I don't know what to do. I can't enter fastboot either. But I have a question: why when I plug it in, when the factory reset screen is there, my PC makes a sound effect as it's connected to my phone (you know, the usual sound when you plug something into your PC). Can it still be saved? Thank you.
Probably a system partition size complication. Are you using RecoveryOreoNoCheck?
Read this or this.
Something weird happened. So, last night I left my phone to run out of battery. Today, after booting it again it worked. But it rebooted itself after it got into Android, and now it's stuck again on the factory reset process at 99%.
EDIT: I think I managed to figure it out. So, after my phone runs out of battery it restarts normally, into Android. After that I need to let it charge for some time, because of the low battery it may shutdown. I will update soon if I figure it out completely.
EDIT 2: It seems that after I enter my pin to unlock my device it reboots itself. Why is that?
Is there any way I can enter erecovery mode without enabling developer options and usb debugging? Because once I input my pin, my device restarts.
EDIT: Seems like I managed to enter my pin without my device restarting. I think it was restarting because the battery was low.
I have another question. Why after I manage to boot my phone, when I try to reboot to bootloader, it reboots, and enters again the Factory reset screen?

So as stated from the user on that link who solved the problem, try formatting the system partition then try to install the update again.
Regarding your other posts, if the update installation obviously failed or encountered some issues then by some coincidence it boots back, that doesn't mean it got fixed. The problem is still there and will become even a bigger problem, if it's not fixed.
You don't have to enable Developer Options or USB Debugging, to boot into eRecovery.

The problem is, I can't enter bootloader nor erecovery. I'll try to factory reset with the phone booted up.
EDIT: After factory resetting from settings, when the phone was booted up, it works now. I tried to reboot it and it reboots fine, without the factory reset screen appearing. And thank you very much for your help. I will now try to install Oreo for PRA-LX1.
The only problem I have now, is: my system version is now named NRD90M test-keys.
EDIT: I fixed my phone. I reinstalled through eRecovery the newest available EMUI version and NRD90M test-keys dissapeared. Now it works fine, even if I am on Nougat. I am waiting for the EMUI 8 update, this time not forcing my phone to install it.

Hi,
I have the same issue with Phone Always going to factory reset.
Only draining it makes it boot up normally.
I also did the factory reset from within android. Now it does a factory reset lowlevel and again it hangs on 99%.
Did you also have this?
Hello everyone!
I have a Pixel 4XL, bought it when the phone was released. Phone is fully stock, not rooted or flashed with any custom ROM, the bootloader is also not unlocked.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket yesterday and it was on the google logo loading screen that you usually see when you boot up the phone. I assumed that it restarted itself because it was too hot (it felt sort of hot to the touch). But the phone never rebooted itself, it was stuck in the booting screen forever.
I then tried various ways to restart the phone, through recovery mode etc. However, I couldn't get my phone to boot back up. I have yet to try factory resetting the phone as I do have some files in the phone I really would like to keep. Is there any other way to resolve this without a full device data wipe/reset?
Thank a lot in advance!!

You can try rescue mode and using the tool Google has online. https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/
Depending on the issue and what the tool has to do it may factory reset it.
Thank you! I will give it a shot!
I was hoping that sideloading the May update OTA would revive my phone but it didn't happen so I had to cut my losses and factory reset the phone. I really hope this never happens again...
As my phone was stock and the software never altered, what would cause a bootloop like mine?

A friend had the same issue. It appeared that his power button actually got stuck internally so he tried to press it from lets say different angles. It worked, he saved all his data and was fine.
