thanks.
i am stupid
Yeah but the stock voice recording does things the others don't:
1 - speech to text which is processed on phone and sent back to the gear
2 - simple ui meant for gear. Some 3rd party recorders look good on phone but cramped on gear
3 - records on gear and uploads a copy to the phone
I'd prefer to keep the stock recorder as it works well. I just need longer than 5 minutes. I hope we don't have to reverse engineer the .apk and recompile it. Ugh!
I keep looking for one of those .xml files which may have the settings but can't find the right one. If it even exists.
what is the 1 point? speech to text? i do not have this on my gear.......... i can only record audio. not transfrom it into a text.
3rd point,i think u have to download manually files from gear to your pc. or alternatively use null rom and push all files audio you want VIA BLUETOOTH on your phone. but yes.........of course it is not "easy" like the autocommand of the integraer audiorecorder that automatically sends the record to your phone within SECONDS.

Sure you can. Check gear manager -> My Apps -> click on the cog next to "voice memo". There's a whole section at the bottom that says: "Speech to text". You can select network type, mine is "WiFi only", and you select the language.
After your record your voice memo on the Gear it'll send the file to the phone which after a short while will be processed and the text will be sent back to the Gear. Now you can read your voice memos on the Gear, not just listen to them.
This is a stock feature. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THERE.
You don't have to send the voice files from the Gear to the phone to the PC. The stock voice memo app sends the audio files directly to the phone and you can set up Dropbox on the phone to send those files to your dropbox account directly. Which is what I do. My voice memos show up on my PC's dropbox folder in a matter of minutes. I don't have to do anything manually to make it happen.

Can you name a few cause i only see the standard one
Has someone fixed this issue - I also want to record longer than 5 min. /on Gear S3/ and stock recorder has not such option.
I've searched for another recorder in store and found nothing also
---------- Post added at 06:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:08 PM ----------
Never mind
Found "Secret Recorder" - looks the same but has no time limitation

Agreed and Verified funtionality. I've had the same exact question; is there a way to tweek the stock .APK so that we may set, and record, longer notes, longer lectures, longer convos, etc.?
I can try and look into this if I get some real time. Otherwise, for all you DEVS out there. If there is a simple int value change we can make, please let us know. Might be easier than expected (minus GUI).
I would love the ability to be able to record longer voice notes, directly from my Gear.
....the transcripts are a bonus, and a cool feature. Though they are often hit or miss depending on a number of variables. Still good effort, I'm sure they will get better. Maybe we should start a thread on Samsung's site, asking for all of this. Primarily, the ability to record as much as you can from the Gear S3!
You can go into voice recorder app on the gear or Galaxy Watches. Tap the 3 dot menu and turn off speech to text to allow longer recordings than 5 minutes.

Thank you! First place I've run across this helpful info.
Observations;
Looks like, according to my guestimation, the Samsung app will record for 3 hours? The test recording I made showed ~25% of the watch circle in blue for a 45 minute recording.
45 minute recording used 32mb of storage and used up 13% of my battery according to the Wearable app.

The gear with Null rom can do most those things anyway? Or am I missing something?
Sent from my SM-G900H using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This could be useful for non-touchwiz phones, I suppose.
I may give it a go just to see what it can actually do.
--wait... "need internet connection on the watch" For serious?
A little confused myself. One part says Bluetooth supported and other part acts like both devices need Internet connection as in Gear tethered which drains much more battery on the gear.
I'm not interested in the actual "Notifications" as Gear Manager does this fine for me, otherwise, the other functions listed, GPS, battery status on other device, ect.. Yes, I would be interested but still confused as to my first comment/paragraph above as to how this works.
The internet connection "requirement" is for those smartwatches that do not have working BT, like every one of the Umeox x201 based smartwatches. The internet connection is also for doing things over long distances (think miles).
It does more than just notifications. I'm running Null and have been placing calls and sending texts using the Gear and leaving my Nexus One in my pocket, or the other room, the whole time.

Ok have it installed on my S4. Problem. Can't get it on the Gear. In the Play Store it says not compatible with (gear) device so I can't use chrome extensions downloader either for some reason. And I'm tethered to the gear to access internet thru playstore directly and it's not listing on the gear to download???
Disregard, I got it downloading now with Chrome extensions, will transfer to gear and give it a whirl shortly.
Ok, I set everything up. Selected BT for connection on phone side's app. There is so setting for this on Gear Side's app. Entered devices names, ect... all it does is sit on phone side saying "Connecting". None of the features are doing anything.

this is for using without BT connection (for smartwatches that don't have bluetooth), it's not needed for direct bt connection.

On the Gear, the settings did not have a place to set a connection type unlike the phone's settings with the app. It started off with email. I even tried to scroll up and down and look all over for the settings for connection on the gear and it certainly wasn't there, at least for me.
i have uploaded the apk in download section as Gear might have difficulties getting it from playstore

Hold the phone! Literally , lol. I just uninstalled from gear and re-installed from the one you posted here in downloads and now I have the connection settings on gear. Now to re-install on phone side and go from there. :victory:
Update: Blah, now when I either set bluetooth on Gear or Phone, I get a force close on each device.

Great !
Strange thing going on right now. On gear I pressed Battery Icon to get the info from phone and it says uptop that it's connected to my phone but nothing is happening after "message sent" dialogue. So I opened into the App on phone side and it's sitting up top saying "connecting...." forever.
Update: Went in on phone side and "Force Closed" the app in app settings. Reloaded it and it connected right up. Must be a quirk or something...
*SWApp Link dev update 0.934d*
*BT Virtual Leash*
You watch will help you not to loose or forget your phone !!
New feature will allow to get notified if the bluetooth link is broken.
User selected delay to trigger the alert.
Hi
This looks promising but i have a few issues and questions
First of all the App keeps Force closing on the watch (i'm running NUll_23)
but i have been able to connect it for a short while and can get SMS messages and the watch vibrates but the screen does not light up
What i wondered is that i want to replace the Samsung Notification system completely as i want to see more of the notification
on the screen than just a small excerpt, especially with Gmail and Email
do you think your app be able to do that down the line
thanks
*SWApp Link dev update 0.934e*
*Auto Lock*
In virtual leash feature, you can now enable "Auto Lock" feature which will set a password on your phone if the link is broken.
It's a low level action on the phone, so you'll be asked to enable Admin rights to the app.
You will be able to enable or not the broken virtual leash notification.
Hi, i'm disabled and only have the use of one arm, is it possible to completely control the g watch r using my voice ONLY?
I'd recommend going to an O2 store and testing out the Moto 360 (they'll have one for use on display, and the voice commands will be the same as the G-Watch R), so you can get a feel for it. You can do a lot of stuff with voice, but not 100% of stuff. For example, I don't think you can change the song playing via voice.
Changing songs via voice doesn't matter too much really, is there anything else you can think of
Many, many... thing can no do with voice
Ex : OK Google Show alarm -> Ok it open alarm window, but..... you need to swipe to close window.
Ex : Ok Google start Evernote -> Ok it open Evernote App but.... you must select item in Evernote menu to continue. Select "Find" with press "find" item and after you can say Note title to open it......
You must also swipe all Card in screen any time a card is displayed and you want look at the clock face.
And............................

Come to think of it, dealing with notifications might just be a no go :/ It really depends on what your use case is for the device. If it's for sending texts and emails via voice, you'll be fine. But notifications and apps, that might be a struggle. Android Wear should be getting an update soon, so that might change!
Beta 1.0 released
I will like to start saying a very big thank you to @bggold who asked me to consider this in the first place
While there isn't any way to use the nice Google Assistant voice, and it's still rough around the edges, this demonstrates how we can use Android Auto in a multi-lingual environment as well as how to read out and reply emails.
The concept is very simple, instead of relaying on Android Auto to read out the notifications I have created a small app which mimics that behaviour, with some extras:
1) It try to do a language detection for each test, and use the appropriate TextToSpeech
2) It allows the user to select which app notification does he/she want's to read
3) If the content is really long (like a lengthy email) the app will prompt the user if it want's to go ahead with the message readout or not
4) If notification supports quick-reply the app will prompt the user for a reply (in the same language as the the original message)
Planning to support a lot of languages but there I will need user input, I have translated the basic strings to around 70 languages using Google translator, but I can tell it's not quite right (I can see with the languages I do speak)
Best part, app won't be affected by 3rd party restriction at all and it won't require root either, however I'm pretty sure Google will not allow it on the PlayStore
Beta version available now on XDA Labs.
App will be payable, however current beta is free so grab a copy while you can
To use the app you will need to enable unknown sources in Android Auto, simply open Android Auto, go to About, tap the "About Android Auto" header 10 times till you become a developer, then from the 3 dotted right menu select developer options and enable "Unknown sources"

Thanks for making this app!
After first start it asked for notification permission and then it was gone to build the list of installed apps/services - endless...
So I've forced close the app after minutes, went to app info/permissions, and enabled unselected permissions for it.
After that the app works now, as it should!
I'll test the functionality today while using AA in my car.

Thanks. It was 3 am )) updating the app now.
This is exactly what I needed. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work. Using Samsung S9 plus running Oreo. Gave read permission to the app, enabled developer settings on Android Auto, enabled unknown sources, enabled whatsapp and Gmail.
Whatsapp notifications haven't changed and it continues to read the foreign text in English. Gmail notifications don't pop up at all.
Any suggestions?

Not sure if you saw but there is a new release. It fixes this issue. Just remember to reboot after updating.
Unfortunately I have the same problem as @yavuzyay. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge with Android 7.0 and Carnotifier Beta v3.
Thanks to @yavuzyay for bugreport and Turkish language input.
I have identified the problem where the app was crashing in case you where using AA on the phone only, and this has been now fixed.

I'm using AA on the car (Alpine X802D-U head unit). I'll try the new beta anyway and report back.
Awesome. Works perfectly.
V4 work fine with SM960F(android 8.0) & RLink1 !
Great job!
Very good stuff!
I use it with the now playing feature - basically phone picks up music on the radio,.detects the song and artist and throws a notification. This app picks that up and shows it as a notification on the car screen! I have disabled read out. So it stays as a simple notification.
Quick question - haven't been able to try it - if I set zero seconds as the duration, will it leave the notification forever?
Tested but not working as expected. Line is an application which doesn't support Android Auto.
Positive: Yes, Car Notifier shows there is a message on Line.
Negative: Can't do anything, it won't read the message, the notification stays in grey color and nothing happens when I click on the message.
Cheers

You can't click the notification to have it read at this time. If you want them read to you enable the read option.
"Read out notifications" is enabled in the settings, my Honda headunit is hacked and I have root access, so I don't think this is related to that.

I'm sure you have but have you checked all the permissions?
CarNotifier asks only permissions to Microphone and Phone, both are granted.
Wondering now whether it has something to do with the new Android Auto v3.8.584554 where some on Reddit claim, that notification is broken
Cheers
Tom
Edit: Maybe the the new AA version interferes with CarNotifier, because AA can show now also message preview
More edit: My friend tested on the Samsung S7 (I have a OnePlus 3T). Also on his mobile nothing happens with Line.
Can't read out and nothing happens in AA when click on it
Is there an app for Speed cams like in your obd2aa app, to have only the speed cam notification?

I am running the new aa and it is working. Get Emil a bug report right after it happens.
The only thing you can do at this time is swip away the notifications. Clicking them will not do anything.
Thanks
After more testing, I do believe the culprit is Line. Gmail works as expected, Facebook also (just for test).
However, Line refuses, which is actually the reason to install the program in the first place.
Probably one of the few programs which won't work.
Great program though.

Hi guys.
I'm finally back in the UK and in front of my PC, I've also managed to tied up quiet a few of my loose ends and I have no big project starting this year. I will dedicated the last 2 weeks of this years to the following:
1) Looking into fixing some of the FC for obd2aa, also try to find a solution for non-standard PIDs
2) Get AA GateWay to Beta/Stable version (most work needs to be done on this app)
3) Fix some issues and FC with HUR (including Waze sound cut off).
4) Get the carNotifier to a stable version.
January and February are again fully booked so I will focus on stability rather then adding new features especially because obd2aa and HUR and fairly mature apps with most of the functions already covered.
For some reason I'm not really getting any notifications from XDA and being a lot on the road I don't visit the site too often lately, therefore I will kindly ask you if you need support, please email me directly to [email protected].
So, I found the setting that reads to me who is calling.
So, for instance if Jesse Pinkman calls me, my phone will say "Jesse Pinkman" and then ring.
If it is not in my contact list, it will read the number.
But it only does it once.
I remember on some of my older phones, it would actually say who was calling, you would get the ring, say who was calling, get the ring, and repeat until VM picks up or I pick up.
I am looking for a way to do this again. If not available, is there an APP that will do this?
The reason I am doing this is because I have bluetooth on my helmet, and when I am riding I only want to pick up for certain callers.
On my phone, it is found under
Settings >> Accessibility>> Screen Reader>> Settings >>Read caller ID aloud
I simply did a search for "aloud" in Settings.
For anyone still looking for an answer: Samsung has made it difficult (on Oreo) to enable the function without the accessibility settings that call out every action you do. It has been integrated well in Pie under call settings. However, if you don't like Pie, like me, there's only one app that I found to actually do it very well. Its called Who's Calling. Get it from PlayStore. I have tested more than 20 apps and nothing does it better. I haven't even seen a single ad from it. Hope this saves someone time.
Cheers
