So I found this on amazon, and though I don't need the VGA. I'm actually thinking of a car audio solution and using this as a single cable for charging and audio. Has anyone tried them? Instead of waiting for an official dock which I assume is essentially doing the same thing.

Would like to know if this adapter can drive audio and video from the N7 micro-USB port.
The Nexus 7 doesn't support mhl. This won't work.
I actually bought a MHL-HDMI this afternoon to give it a shot. Turned out Google Nexus 7 doesn't support MHL. Lmao for not searching before buying. Got it returned right away. Hahaha

Ok lets try and see if I can explain what I mean... im interested in the new smartdock (it has hdmi 3 full size usb ports and charging jack) looks great but its not released here in the uk and its gonna be expensive.
Now I have a generic ebay dock on its way with charge and sync capabilities it has 2 micro usb ports i was wondering if it would be possible to plug a mhl hdmi adapter into one of the micro usb ports of the dock and use the dock for my tv out needs sounds simple enough but...
This is where I get a bit confused I hear the galaxy note 2 supports a new 11pin micro usb mhl hdmi adapter and the old 5 pin hdmi adapter used on the note 1 and s2 wont work. So I suppose the note 2 micro usb socket is 11pin the new mhl hdmi adapter required is 11pin... does anyone know if standard usb architecture on generic docks would support 11pin or 5 pin mhl hdmi as if the docks architecture is only 5 pin it obviously wont work as it would be going from 11pin (phone) through 5pin (the dock) to 11pin (the mhl hdmi). I hope someone understands what I mean.
Or maybe someone could explain to me the differences between 5pin and 11pin and maybe I can work it out myself.
Im totally confused as I thought all usbs were the same apart from speed and that was the beauty of usb its universal serial bus.

The s3 and note 2 can ouput multi-chanell audio through hdmi. I guess that's why . So far as I know none of the docks supports that configuration....dock...usb...mhl. The smartdock is the only one . I'll go that way...

The SGN2 micro USB port has may features:
Charging (up to 2A)
OTG Host mode
MHL video/audio
USB Audio stereo output
Docking Profile
If you dig deep into the USB spec. you will find how these seperate features all come together by use of the micro USB - ID Sense pin 5.
My guess is if you attach a SGN2 > generic dock > w/ USB (x2) > HDMI cable > HDMI display <<<< this cannot work as the USB ports have no way to convey the ID Sense pin to the micro USB port of the SGN2.
I'm waiting on stock for the smart dock. I wish it had a method to pivot landscape though.

App - Ultimate Rotation Control can sort that (using it with the Smart Dock I have presently). Tasker should also be up to the task of sorting rotation issues with the Smart Dock.
Ah so you think it wont work through the generic dock this is shame as it would be a money saver and I have one on the way. I hoped the dock port might just work as an extension of the micro usb port on the phone meaning the mhl hdmi would work as usual but I had my doubts.
I have got an app called orientation control from the play store it was 96p and is very handy and easy to force landscape it even forces lanscape on the stock homescreen great for docking.

Hi Guys
I just bought an Audyssey Audio Dock (http://www.audyssey.com/products/audio-dock) which I intend to use for music listening over bluetooth with my Nexus 7. This speaker also has a docking option for Apple devices to play music while its docked. The docking connector is a 30 pins one.
I did some research and found out that there are some 30 pins to micro usb adapters (http://www.miniinthebox.com/nl/micr...n-kabel-voor-ipad-iphone-en-ipod_p362801.html)
My questions are: Can I charge my nexus 7 when I dock it with a connector like the one mentioned above?
And is there any chance that I can play music over this usb to 30 pins connector while docked? ( so without bluetooth streaming or whatsoever) The Nexus 7 supports USB audio is custom roms when its attached to a DAC. Since the Audyssey has an internal DAC, this option seems plausible. The only possible restraint could be the 30 pins connection.
I think my nexus 7 can be charged since the 30 pins connector deliver 5v power. For the second question I couldn't find any information so I would appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance.
I think the adapter might indeed provide power. It most definitely wouldn't both supply power and allow connection for usb audio.

That's also what I was thinking. And what about usb audio only?
The proprietary Apple connector has defined specific pins for the audio, power, etc and they have nothing to do with the usb connection. The only way I can see that you could hook up some external DAC to the Nexus would be via a mini to whatever the Audyssey uses USB cable.

Im looking for a really good dock with HDMI out, and if its possible multiple usb ports out.
Just like the Galaxy note 2 dock:

If anybody knows a similar dock(s) share with me please.
You will be unable to use it, i think that O4X has "old" mhl which does not supports simoultaneous data and video transfer plus no native host support

i think we are talking mostly software here because OTG Host works on LG and hdmi out too ,but i really dont know about simoultaneous actions
i really don't know if we can use MHL and USB hub at the same time, but i use the MHL cable from my HTC Sensation and it works using external power, also, the thing that i do is putting my Sensation on a normal Dock, in the dock i connect the MHL, the HDMI to my 42 inch monitor, and a Keyboard with mouse like whis http://www.amazon.com/QQ-Tech®-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Handheld/dp/B00BALK9CM/ref=pd_cp_pc_0...
i have do the same with my LG 4X HD, but without the dock, deffenitly faster and better!
i have my eyes on this
http://www.amazon.com/iBolt-Streame...=UTF8&qid=1373153894&sr=8-1&keywords=mhl+dock
first versions of mhl were 5 pin, second is 11 pin. first CANNOT transfer at the same time, second CAN.
MHL was being developed by the MHL Consortium, a Consortium made up of leading companies in the mobile and CE space that includes Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba.
Say thank you to that idiots that decided to made MHL. I prefer micro USB + micro HDMI, but this is probably easier to do.
11 pin MHL was introduces i think with SGS3
5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter/dongle
The first implementations use the most popular mobile connection (micro USB) and the most popular TV connection (HDMI). Other than the physical connectors, USB and HDMI technology are not being used. It is exclusively MHL signaling through the connectors and over the cable.
11-pin "samsungs MHL"-HDMI adapter/dongle
The Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4 use a connector that is similar to the original 5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter/dongle, but it uses 11-pins in order to achieve a few functional improvements over the 5-pin design.
It supports the use of USB and MHL simultaneously. (Note that the new Samsung 11-pin MHL-HDMI adapter also has a USB On-The-Go port).
Samsung’s Galaxy S III/ Note 2 can power the MHL-HDMI adapter (when used with a non-MHL-compatible-TV). Although this can theoretically also be done with the standard 5-pin micro-USB connector, the Galaxy S III's 11-pin connector is believed to be the first smartphone that supports this functionality.
The Galaxy S III was the first MHL device to use a different connector - one that is not compatible with all other MHL devices and accessories. [9][10]
sources are form wiki
EDIT: and yet, i have googled a little, seems that 11pin does not do host and video at the same time: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741583
so... samsung is being idiot by forcing their standards. Thats why I hate big companies, they are like spoiled children. Idiotic, in 2010/2011 when MHL was not installed in mobiel phones you could use hdmi independent on usb. but now you cant. point of using mhl???
its a bit of a shame, i wanted this phone to be as viable as possible for Ubuntu touch's desktop environment. But its not that much of an issue, a bluetooth keyboard and mouse works fine in that regard

Are you using stock rom? I think that MHL video output is bugged in CM10.1.

This video they show a pixel 4 apparently they made their own kernel and got it to work with Pixel 4
has this been achieved by anyone on xda or can it be replicated ?
interested in buying this phone but I need hdmi out
