I have the exact specs except for mine is the AT&T version and I need to know how this can get back to stock with hboot 1.61. I know which RUU to get, but how were you able to revert your phone back to stock in Feb, 2017 when it appears that the Guru reset tool from the the HTC1guru website has been dead for years?? Please assist anyone. I've been tacking this for days wih 20+hours of research-- killing most of my long Easter weekend :crying:.

Yes, I already understood all that and actually have that RUU file. Please reread above. I can't seem to find a good way to flash this OS to my One M7. I tried to use the RUU.exe and follow the prompts, but the flashing fails. I try to flash via the Fastboot Command Prompt way, but i have no way to extract the rom from the RUU properly without issue. Is it because my Custom OS is too new? I'm using a Ground Zero Rom (Tesla OS) 7.1.1 Thanks.

What is the error when flashing the RUU?
is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
Post your "fastboot getvar all" output
If you prefer to flash with fastboot, you can easily get the .zip version from the .exe version. When launching the ruu.exe, the rom.zip will be extracted from the exe in your local temp folder:
Double click the exe ruu and wait for the first screen to show and do not close this window for now
Hit your windows key + r and type %temp% and hit Enter, this will open your local temp folder.
Use the search bar from the explorer window and make a search for rom.zip
Copy rom.zip to your desktop then you can close the RUU.exe window.
Then you can flash rom.zip using fastboot (remember you must use htc_fastboot.exe not fastboot.exe).
htc_fastboot.exe can also be extracted from the ruu.exe using the same method.

back in May I asked you 3 questions, you answered 1.
Still waiting for
-your "fastboot getvar all" output
-is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
Are you using htc_fastboot.exe to flash the RUU like suggested above? I can see in your cmd windows that your are using fastboot.exe (fastboot flash zip rom.zip) . htc_fastboot.exe must be used instead of the regular fastboot.exe to flash all lollipop RUU.
htc_fastboot can be extracted from your ruu.exe or you can find it on androidfilehost.com
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24341993505161791
should be:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip rom.zip
What do you mean?? I answered all 3. Maybe I wasn't explicit with the last 2
Yes I'm using htc_fastboot and got it from that site- I just renamed the file.
The htc_fastboot is 87.7kb- which I have.
Yes my bootloader was unlocked and now re-locked.
Thanks

Hey Guys,
I am currently looking to set my phone back to Stock/Out of box, to send in to retailer for repairs (Warranty). I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me.
I am about to follow this guide http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/return-your-rooted-unlocked-htc-one-back-factory-settings-for-warranty-repairs-0149204/

follow nkk71's guide linked in my signature, not that guide you have linked.
basically, youll have to revert your cid back to htc__001 and then flash the 1.28.401 ruu. if you want to s-on, do it while still on hboot 1.44 or 1.54
OK firstly, Thank you very much for you reply...
I have read the thread, and still have a small amount of confusion/doubt as to what I need to do.
Here is what I am planning to do:
Step 1:
Open command prompt in fastboot directory
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
fastboot reboot-bootloader
(Confirm CID has updated)
Step 2: Remove TAMPERED Banner
adb devices
adb shell
echo -ne '\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 bs=1 seek=4265988
echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796
exit
Step 3:
in recovery, "install zip" -> "choose zip" -> and select "Guru_Bootloader_Reset_1.0"
go through the installer and select "Remove TAMPERED" and "LOCK Bootloader";
once finished: continue with
adb reboot bootloader, and confirm no TAMPERED and LOCKED status
Step 4: ??????
Additional info: RUU EXE Reads - You may need to flash hboot 1.44 before the RUU will install. S-Off Required. Download - 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44 http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_ul_jb_50_htc_europe_1-28-401-7_radio_4a-13-3231-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-exe/
But RUU ZIP - Does not mention 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44 at all http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip-m7_ul_jb_50_htc_europe_1-28-401-7_radio_4a-13-3231-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-zip/
I am restoring via RUU.zip: I need to be S-On for warranty purposes, So the confusion I have is do I
A: Flash RUU 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44 - First in order to downgrade the HBOOT from 1.55 and gain S-ON?
B:Just flash RUU 1.28.401.7 and attempt S-On
C:Flash RUU 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44 , Gain S-On, Then flash RUU 1.28.401.7
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip (TBC)
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip (TBC)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Step 5 Gain S-On
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Reboot 3 Times
No further steps required, Os should be bootable and returned to stock - Is this correct
Thanks

Thank you, I will give it a go now... and let you know
Rather than creating a new thread, I think I would like to hijack this thread for a while with a question regarding RUU.
@alray I have been unable to flash RUU.exe on my HTC One which seems to be giving the errors:
Error 170
Error 155
HTC_Fastboot.exe stopped working
I have in the past been able to flash the same RUU for the same phone without any issues. My phone is S-Off already and I am using a USB 2.0 port (also tried with the 3.0).
Tried in 2 different PC's (Win 8 and Win 7) Any recommendation?
Thanks

yes
post the output of fastboot getvar all (except imei/sn)
what ruu are you using exactly? (complete file name please)
btw
error 170 = usb error, either because of a bad usb cable, bad usb port, driver issues
error 155 = image error, either because you are not using the right ruu for your phone (to determine with the getvar all), or because your hboot version is higher than the one in the ruu. in that case, you must downgrade hboot prior to running the ruu.exe. Using ruu.zip avoids that kind of issue because zip ruu doesnt check for bootloader version.

Thanks

Is it showing in adb / fastboot devices?

yes
post the output of fastboot getvar all (except imei/sn)
what ruu are you using exactly? (complete file name please)
btw
error 170 = usb error, either because of a bad usb cable, bad usb port, driver issues
error 155 = image error, either because you are not using the right ruu for your phone (to determine with the getvar all), or because your hboot version is higher than the one in the ruu. in that case, you must downgrade hboot prior to running the ruu.exe. Using ruu.zip avoids that kind of issue because zip ruu doesnt check for bootloader version.

1.20.401.1 RUU is a pre-release ruu. Don't try to flash this one, there is no ota update for that version and you'll be stock on 1.20.401.1 forever.
4.19.401.9 ruu.exe is a lower version than your phone so it will require to downgrade the hboot 1st.
Im not sure about the HTC_fastboot.exe error
Since you are s-off, what i recommend you is to use the 1.28.401.7 ruu.zip.
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-zip/
save the file in your adb/fastboot folder and rename it "ruu" ("ruu.zip"). reboot phone in bootloader mode and open a command prompt from your adb/fastboot folder
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot reboot
then download and install each ota from settings --> about ---> software updates

don't forget this ruu will flash everything on the phone including the firmware so hboot will be downgraded to 1.44. Make sure you are not using a windows 8.1 computer because fastboot doesnt work with 8.1 and 1.44 so the ruu will not flash completely if you are using windows 8.1

Hi, Hope this post is in the right place, apologies if not.
I recently got a HTC One (M7) which was already unlocked, S-OFF and rooted and had 4.4 on it but i wanted to upgrade that OS so installed GPE and then it updated a few times to 5.01 which was all good but now i want to go back to 4.4 and this is the problem i'm having.
I'm in the UK using a O2 UK RUU file which i know does work but now when i go to use it i get as far as 'Checking Header' (5%) and thats it ..it wont go any further? I have tried in compatibility mode but that just returns errors.. I am using Fastboot & ADB tools and tried pushing the firmware but i'm really quite a novice when it comes t stuff like this ..
I tried fastboot getvar and all i get it a list of commands now which i dont understand
I do know my CID is 111111
Here's the Bootloader Info:
*** UNLOCKED***
M7 UL PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID 11111111
HBOOT 1.54.0000
RADIO 4T.30.3218.21
OPEN DSP v34.120.274.0429
OS 5.11. 1700 .3
All i want to do it flash the phone back to original Stock with OS 4.4 ..
also, when i try to go into recovery it wont let me, i get the green android laying on his back with a red exclamation on him and pressing up with power dont take me into recovery.
Any idea's please?
I would like to thank xda and it's members for all the help previously.. thanks guys

Flash the firmware that matches your RUU first
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then flash the RUU ... RUU gets stuck on the Hboot update step, flashing firmware first eliminates this problem

Hi and thank you for your help.. i tried looking for the correct firmware.zip but after trying to flash it i get errors and 'fails' i'm not exactly sure which firmware i should be using - i did go to HTC site and selected what i thought were O2 UK FW files (1 was MR 3, 1 MR2 and 2 x zip files) so i assumed the .zip files were the FW files but its with these i got the errors. When i flashed them it did read them but aftr a few seconds returned a fail.
The RUU i am trying to put back on is RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_O2_UK_4.20.206.16_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353143_signed_2 which i know works on my device as i used it before i installed the GPE.
Any ideas please? I'm sorry i cant provide any more information.

Well you phone is having a bit of an identity crises
you have hboot 1.54 ( assume it's the Dark bootloader for GPE)
your Firmware version is 6.x.401.x which is for the International version
and your CID is O2
I'm going to recommend you convert to International by changing you CID
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
then flash this firmware
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407574077
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
followed by this RUU
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe
or
RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_Europe_4.19.401.9_R_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe - 1.50 GB
Maybe a little late but you could also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
Go to post #2 and follow those instructions. Then flash whatever RUU you want.
I converted to GPE one time, didn't like it and also had trouble getting back to KK.

Thanks again for the help.. much appreciated - im using TWRP v2.7 and wiped the whole phone by accident - i'm trying to push (adb sideload fw_4.19.401.9_custom.zip) but keeps coming back as no device - i have a yellow exclamation in device manager under 'other devices' 'one' and cant seem to find a windows 7 driver for this? once i can push or sideload the firmware i can flash it correct?
Thanks again
So to refresh my memory, you were on stock GPE and want to go back to stock sense correct? Now you have wiped the phone using twrp and twrp is all that is left?

i really dont know what to do now - i have all the correct files in the platform tools folder where i run the fastboot & adb commands (firmware & ruu) and have changed the CID to HTC___001
When i'm in recovery mode (TWRP) i get the yellow exclamation (screenshot hopefully attached)
First you need to get the driver working. Click on "one" and see if you can select from a list of devices on the pc. Now if the last working firmware on the phone was gpe then you need to push/sideload a gpe based Rom. This is because the partition structure is different than sense. You need to get a working Rom onto the phone first.

Hi All,
For months I have been trying to return my HTC One to stock ROM without success. When installing cyanogenmod I wasn't successful in creating a backup and didn't realise the implications of this until I tried to return to stock.
I have tried a few things - finding a back up for a H3G HTC one, changing the CID to 1111111 ((bootloader) [JAVACARD_ERR] SD/USBDISK Init error), installing from a RUU.exe and nothing has worked.
ADB and Fastboot are correctly set up on my laptop and communicating with my phone.
My GetVar all returns.

you cant change the CID without s-off
heres your latest stock Lollipop RUU.zip: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934542817
it will wipe your entire phone, so backup anything you want to keep before flashing it.
As you are s-on you will need to relock your bootloader before flashing, but backup first as once the bootloader is locked or relocked, your custom rom wont boot.
rom taken from here and instructions on how to flash it are at the top of the page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/lollipop-ruu-zip-small-collection-t3053944

Thanks for the very quick reply. I downloaded the file.
Apologies for needing the extra help but I am unsure what to do with zip file - quote from the instructions "As many in this thread, ask about zip corruption, zip are not corrupted they are encrypted and can't open normally , they need decryption check md5 and dont try to unzip them"
Can you help on how I decrypt the file?

why do you want to decrypt it, just follow the instructions and flash it as it it, rename that zip file to RRU.zip, put it in the same folder as your adb and fastboot files on your computer, and flash it.
Go from here: How To Flash
1. Rename file to RUU.zip
2. Place it in adb folder
3. Reboot phone to fastboot mode
4. S On need to relock bootloader (fastboot oem lock) , S Off lock not needed
5. Also use the htc_fastboot.exe not the normal fastboot.exe
get the htc_fastboot.exe here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934539737
Rename htc_fastboot to fastboot or if you don't rename it, then the command will be "htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip"
Run the following commands from your adb folder:
6. htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
7.htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
8.htc_fastboot reboot-bootloader

Seanie,
When I tried the flash it didn't work, I got an error message, I then read the text at the top of the page and misunderstood the guidance for instructions. Hence the decrypting question.
I just retried and it seems to have worked.
I do sincerely appreciate your help. Since November off and on I have been trying to make this happen - I couldn't have done it without you.
Thanks,
Piney

Hi guys,
For 5 weeks I've been trying to upgrade my phone to 5.0.2 and nothing works. All I've managed to do is go from 4.4.2 down to 4.2.2 and now I'm stuck here. I've tried RUUs, I've tried fastboot zips, everything fails.
Right now I've got 4.2.2 TWRP, and s-off and this from getvar:
bootloader: 1.54.0000
baseband: 4a.17.3250.14
main 2.24.206.7
cidnum: 11111111
I just want to go back to stock to get OTAs.
Can someone please help me? I've watched so many YouTube videos and read so many threads but nothing has worked. I just keep digging a deeper hole.

Post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (remove imei and serialno)
"everything fails": can you be more precise please? Sometime it will fail for a simple reason, but without knowing the exact error its hard to tell you why it failed...

I'f tried using different RUUs (206s and 401s) to get to 4.4.2 but it always fails. The furthest I got was a RUU getting stuck at "Checking Headers ....5%". It sat there for 30 minutes a few different times.
I've tried installing an OTA zip for 5.0.2 (when I was on 4.4.2) through TWRP but that didn't work either.
So I got S-Off and tried all of these again. Still not working.
Ideally what I want is a clean Sense 6 install of 5.0.2 with the latest firmware.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm also getting this error from a few RUUs:
An error (-5001 : 0x80070002) has occurred while running the setup.
I've rebooted and run the RUU again and it says the same.

update your firmware to 7.19.401.2 then flash the 7.19.401.22 ruu. You must use htc_fastboot.exe to flash the ruu <--- important. Save htc_fastboot.exe, the 7.19.401.2 firmware and the 7.19.401.22 ruu in the same folder you have adb.exe and fastboot.exe on your computer.
Code:

THANKS A MILLION! It looks like it's updated! Cheers!!
Hey guys, What's up?
First of all, I must mention what happened, I always had an iPhone, and I bought a HTC One (M7) like 2 years ago, and I never thought about rooting it..
One year ago, my friend suggested that he can upgrade it to Lollipop, and he seemed so confident lol, and I think he messed it up, I do have Lollipop on it, but it's SO BUGGY!, The phone gets so HOT easily! keeps crashing! and many many other problems..
So I decided to have the Stock ROM back, and I started reading how, but honestly, it's so difficult since I don't know what he has done to the phone..
The only thing I remember he did: He was coming to this forum and mentioned that this is the best forums for Android devs..
So.. Can anyone please help me get my phone back to Stock ROM?
Tell me what to do first? What I need to have?
And most important, help me find the right files for my phone?
Thanks alot,
Have a nice day
Stock like in GPE or Sense?
IF you have international M7 not verizon, sprint etc.
The most simple method would be just flashing nearly stock tweaked rom through recovery i.e. this one:
Sense: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
GPE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963927
Full on back to stock would require using fastboot and RUU images, but you wouldn't gain anything from that.

We will first need to know the exact info about your phone. You'll need to have adb and fastboot installed on your computer, if you don't have it yet, I would suggest you to download the simplified version (Minimal adb and fastboot). You'll also need to have HTC drivers installed on your computer. Once both are installed, reboot your phone in bootloader mode (hold power and volume down), make sure your phone is in "fastboot usb" (showing a red "fastboot usb" caption, if not select "fastboot" from the bootloader menu), then start a "minimal adb and fastboot" command prompt (start menu --> program --> Minimal adb and fastboot ---> Minimal adb and fastboot.exe). Type "fastboot getvar all" and hit enter. Copy/paste the output here (remove your IMEI, MEID and SerialNo before posting).
Should look like this:
Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.43.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4A.13.3231.20

Hey FeelThePoveR,
Well, I don't really know what are verizon or sprint... and I don't know how to know..
but I live in Israel, and bought it from a private store, so I guess I have the international M7.. (makes sense? :/ )
Honestly, I want it back to stock so I can do whatever I want with my phone knowing what I'm doing..
I have some experience with adb and fastboot already.. I have ubuntu as well, it's not gonna be hard for me to follow instructions.. my WHOLE problem is.. that I don't know the condition of my phone.. what's wrong with it..
for example.. all the time I thought I have root, I tried to follow instructions few days ago to install something..
and I checked my root via Root Checker app, and it says that I don't have root installed proberly..
So yeah.. I want my phone back to stock.. :/
And yeah it's Sense not GPE..
Any suggestions?
(I'm gonna post in a reply the "getvar" info in few hours..)
Thanks alot for giving me some of your time
Have a nice day..

Hey alray,
I've been trying to get fastboot to work on my Windows for all day now..
and I tried following your instructions and files you mentioned above..
But I still get "< waiting for any device >", it doesn't recognize my phone..
tried downloading Android-SDK and installed google usb drivers as well..
It didn't work..
That's why I didn't post the getvar info yet :/
So I'm thinking about trying to do that on my Ubuntu..
but It's gonna take few hours until I'm on my laptop..
then I'll post the getvar info
For now, I don't know if that helps,
But I do know that my phone is TAMPERED + UNLOCKED + S-OFF
Thanks for your time..
Windows can be weird that way. You just have to manually install the driver.
I think I used that driver pack http://d-h.st/23V .
Unpack it, connect your phone in fastboot mode, go to device manager in the control panel and search for your device, than right click on it and select update drivers, browse my computer and select the folder with drivers.
Voila it should be working now.

Since your phone is S-OFF you can simply flash the international version on it but before flashing the international RUU, you'll have to change your CID and then update your firmware.
Download these 2 files and save it in your adb/fastboot folder on your computer:
RUU: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24391638059058554
htc_fastboot.exe (this version is needed to flash the RUU, not the regular fastboot): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24341993505161791
Change your CID to SuperCID:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and confirm your cid is now 11111111 (8 times 1) using "fastboot getvar all"
Download the attached firmware.zip file and save it in your adb/fastboot folder on your computer
Then with the phone in bootloader mode:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
phone will reboot to a black screen with silver HTC logo (RUU mode), you can now flash the firmware:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
You'll have to do the "fastboot flash zip" command twice, fist time it will fail. Ignore the green progress bar on your phone, it will not reach 100% just confirm in the command window that everything is OK.
Now that you are back in bootloader make sure your hboot is now 1.57 and your version-main is 7.19.401.102. If yes go back in ruu mode and flash the RUU:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7_U_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_7.19.401.151_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01D_release_458806_signed.zip
fastboot reboot
Make sure to use htc_fastboot to flash the RUU and not the regular fastboot.
NOTE: I didn't hide the meid field.. it's all zeros (is that okay?)[/QUOTE]
Thats fine, only CDMA phones have both an IMEI and MEID numbers (yours is GSM and only have an IMEI number)

fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7_U_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_7.19.401.151_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01D_release_458806_signed.zip
fastboot reboot
Make sure to use htc_fastboot to flash the RUU and not the regular fastboot.
NOTE: I didn't hide the meid field.. it's all zeros (is that okay?)

Thats fine, only CDMA phones have both an IMEI and MEID numbers (yours is GSM and only have an IMEI number)[/QUOTE]
Hey alray,
Thanks for the instructions, but I have a question..
The fastboot you mentioned, ends with '.exe', which means it's for Windows, and I couldn't get my Windows to recognize my phone, so I'm using Ubuntu..
How can I get this fastboot for linux?
Thanks alot
