Anyone know if the Camera app can be prevented from starting on boot? (Perhaps a little contrary to the spirit of the camera, but I use it more for development than for taking pictures, and I don't like the lens motor wasting its time and wearing out its parts). Does it use the "normal" autostart mechanisms that might be disabled by something like Gemini App Manager, or is the camera start up built specially into the guts of the android version on this thing?
Don't know about the details, but enabling the screen lock (swipe to unlock) in settings stops the camera from starting when waking the device with the power button (doesn't stop the start after boot though).

Well, it stops the lens cranking out immediately on power up, but as soon as you do swipe the screen, you are in the camera app and the lens pops out. I'm looking to avoid the camera app completely. I guess if I get up the nerve to root this thing, I can try out an app manager and see if I can disable it on boot, but I'd hate to do unnatural things to the camera and then find out it didn't do any good .
If you are on the home screen when you switch off it will not open into the Camera app.

That depnds on how "off" is is. Once the suspend or hibernate or whatever it is expires and it goes "fully" off, it always starts in the camera.
Are you sure you really turned it off when it went to your homescreen without starting the camera app?
When starting from fast-startup or on a clean boot it will always start the camera app.
The only time it doesn't is if you had it in standby.
A work around is to use this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
Use it to set links to your favorite applications.
When you boot to the lock screen pull down the notification bar, select the app you want, then swipe to unlock and it will open in the app you selected.
Of course it would be much easier if Samsung had simply enabled lock screen shortcuts

It would be really nice to disable the camera on boot. It would also be nice to get rid of this stupid mesage:
"SD card inserted. Change storage location to SD card?"
I thought there was a thread for that, but can't find it now.

I only started to get this message since the new update, it appears as though the SD card doesn't get initiated before the camera app loads and in turn thinks you've inserted a new card, when it finally does get loaded. Either they need to put a delay in place or somehow not load the camera app until it's established whether there is a card installed or not.
Disable the BOOT_COMPLETE permission in the camera app but make sure something else has it or you boot to a blank screen.
how can we disable a permission ?
is there a simple app for that ?
Thanks.

Thanks. However, As far as I know Xposed framework is for 4.2+ devices. Camera has 4.1.2, so where can I find that Xposed framework ?

Ok;
I've found and installed Xposed framework with App Settings module.
The app that I should change permission is com.sec.android.app.camera , right ?
When I try to chenge its permissions, it says "Shared packages not yet supported"
so ?
Get the latest files a quick Google search for Xposed Framework should get you to the right thread as I don't have it to hand and try it then. The settings asp changes from "Xposed Settings" to "Asp settings" in the latest version.

I got app settings from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541
It says "App settings" as you say. so it should be the new version ?
but it does not change shared packages.
where else can I find it ?
---------- Post added at 10:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:09 PM ----------
my version is app settings 0.4 and it is also discussed here that "shared packages are not supported":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36029129&highlight=shared#post36029129
are you sure that it is working for you ?
I still couldn't solve this. Can you tell me which version you've used for this ?
thx.

Hi guys,
I just develop (my first android dev) the free app "Bluetooth Tethering Toggle" to be able to switch on/off the internet tethering bluetooth connection without to use the bluetooth settings each time. It works with the fOmey rom and others android platforms > 4.0.3, no root needed.
This application works only if tethering already works before and if the devices are paired.
Hope it will be usefull...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spac.BluetoothTetheringToggle
[Many thanks to fOmey for his great job and rom]
Very nice, thanks works well on nova launcher
Great job this is perfect, suggestion to integrate with Tasker so we can automate ?

You not need to install it on your phone, just on your gear (if you want to use internet with the gear over your phone by tethering.)
After install it on your Gear, add the widget on your gear and toggle it.

Sorry, I was thinking that your widget works for both devices, now I've understood! Anyway I've found another widget to toggle BT tethering from phone (without go into settings but directly from the homescreen)! Thanks a lot! (and sorry for my English...)

hi,
If you want to connect your Gear watch to internet over your phone, you must install the app on the watch gear only and add the widget "Bluetooth Tethering Toggle" on the desktop of your Gear.
it's the same when you go into the bluetooth settings of your Gear Watch (with the fOmey's ROM) and you select the tethering checkbox client.
(If you want to connect your tablet to internet over your phone, you must install the app on the tablet only and add the widget "Bluetooth Tethering Toggle" on the desktop of your tablet.
If you want to connect your phone A to internet over an other phone B, you must install the app on the first phone A only and add the widget "Bluetooth Tethering Toggle" on the desktop of your phone A.)
Just a suggest : can you hide the name under toggle? Because I don't use a classic grid (I use 5x3) and so I have to expand widget for see all the words... Maybe without name can be more nice and less intruder!
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I ll do some tests and bring a solution. Not easy because the widget works on any android devices, not only Gear.. I don t find a sample to make a widget as a real icon with same title... (if someone knows, thank you for the help)
Thanks for developing this! So much easier to turn on tethering now!

Updated! Now seems perfect mate!!! Great work!
I´we noticed that when I have the bluetooth tether connected all the time, my Note 3 drains battery in high grade.
Your widget/app works fine to enable bt tether but I dislike the idea of doing it manually when I need internet connection.
So I have a Request:
Is it possible to add a setting that automatically enables bt tether after an set amount of time from that the screen is turned on?
Not straight away when it turns on since I don´t need internet access when I only turn on the Gear for a short time watching the clock for example.
And it ofcourse needs to turn the bt tether off again when the screen goes off.
Is this possible to do? Or does anyone have another idea of how doing this automatic?
Thanks for a great app btw!

This could be done with Tasker Intents, or with Tasker Secure Settings but only IF the app/widget allows the Intent to toggle the connection.
I tried but it seems the intent was not there in Secure Settings.
I will look at the manifest file and see if the Intent "allow toggling" can be called from Tasker Intent plugin

Yeah I thought so to, but it would be nice to have it included in the app.
A question about Tasker, I own the Direct Download-version of Tasker and use it on my Note 3, is it possible to use the same license on my Gear or am I forced to but another licence for every device?

Yes, I will see what I can do to include this option inside the app. and include a retry/auto too for disconnections..
(with tasker, I must try the app before to understand how it works; no information about: what I must add in the manifest file ?)
So I have been browsing through some threads and found a couple of interesting apps, for example the Torque app where you can see your car velocimeter through your phone's screen and some other app where you can control your house's lights. hi ,
first of all, i had OK Google working on my Win 10 laptop and Note5 device .
No problem ,it was working with screen off always listening.
On my device i use my Nova Prime launcher settings to access my OK Google settings ( see screenshots) .
Then about a month ..maybe 3 weeks ago i saw on a Win 10 forum/and other forums , that Google has disabled always listening on pc/laptop.You have to click on Google search mic button now on pc /laptop for response .
In the meantime, I also joined Google beta testing for the Google search app .So i am using Google search app beta's .I have now also noticed that even though Ok Google works fine on my Note5 ,always listening ,does not work anymore.with screen off (??)
It does work otherwise ,from lock-screen , any screen , app and has " limited functions "when offline ...etc (Works very smooth no problems )
I suspect that maybe always listening has also been disabled on devices .(.not sure as i am on Google beta's )
good luck

hi ,
firstly ,if you start freezing apps /process you must make sure there's not going to be any " knock on " effect.? ( Problems with functioning of phone ) .In the past ,i was very quick to freeze apps /processes ( with Titanium backup ) Then later , have endless issues eg. force closing of certain apps independent on that app /process .!!
I am sure the above Samsung Always listening apk, could be dependant /connected to S Voice or it could it also be needed for OK Google to function ?
I have stock Rom ,no root and have disabled S Voice with system Application manager .
i have not disabled the Samsung always listening apk .I am using OK Google no issues .(so i am not to sure ),but would not advise it unless you are sure that there will be no knock on effect ?? ?
The choice is yours .
Only you have the "power" to decide if you are going to ..freeze/disable it .!!!!!
good luck

hi ,
No not anymore. and yes ,i also used to activate it with screen off ( no issues then)
OK Google ,activated and woke up (screen off ) on my Note device ,even when i then used
OK Google command , for my laptop !
I had these two devices responding to my command simultaneously and i started to get confused........
........,which device to use !!!
I still have the same "setup" /settings as before .
Overall ,OK Google is working very smooth ,wakes up like 99 % of the time .
Just a side note .
I am subscribed and receiving beta versions to Google search( OK Google)
.,so i am not to sure if this will has a influence on workings of OK Google ..
should think so , being beta releases .
The laptop i know for sure ,OK Google always listening ,had been disabled by Google (about a month ago .)
You have to activate the mic button( in Google chrome ) to work .
So i suspect, the same happened with the phone .( always listening with screen off )
good luck

Phone and Restart problem
Hi!
I want to report a problem I've found using some phone apps that required to be set as the default "Calling app" (Settings -> Apps -> Default apps (in the menu)), in case someone else has the same problem.
I have a SM-T715Y and the apps I tested are:
* Calls Blacklist - Call blocker.
* Truecaller: Caller ID, SMS spam blocking & Dialer.
Whenever any of the aforementioned apps are set as the default Calling app I can't answer phone calls because no answer/reject button is displayed (or it's invisible). WhatsApp calls work fine (those don't require to change the default Calling app). I suppose the problem will persist with any other app that requires to be set as default Calling app.
This may be a problem between the Google Phone app and the others, since I've used the blockers before without problems (in stock rom, another custom ROM and Dream UX).
Another problem I've found is that, sometimes, the restart doesn't work (Hold power button -> Restart); it's like the device shows a dialog with the screen turned off instead of rebooting, although this isn't much of problem.
Hope this helps someone .
And @Skulldron, thanks for Your work !

Hi friend. Its been a while since I've worked on the Pixel ROM as my focus shifted towards the Experience ROM. Ok so I know what the bug is. It is just that the apk called "incallui" was removed. I thought that it would be substituted with Google Phone but it appears Google Phone doesn't work that way. So all you have to do is get The Samsung Dialer apk from SAMmobile (Not apkmirror coz I dont remember the exact name) and place it in system/apps and give it correct permissions. Have a Good One!
