If I wanted to restore to a different backup, not the latest one, how would I do that?
Thanks
Brows the nandroid folder on your sdcard and move the one you want to the top of the list.
Or you can flash Amon_Ra's recovery, it lets you select the nandroid file that you want. It is just a modified, more functional version of cyanogens, which i asume your using.

Thanks

Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 what option do I choose to backup my current ROM? When I go into backup and restore I have multiple choices and I am not sure which is approperate and where it says Restore All (Be careful)....I decided I better make sure what exactly I am to back up and restore?
I believe the warning to be careful is because you do not want to restore system data if you are not on the same base rom. If you are just creating a backup so you can restore settings on the particular rom you are on, then back up all. If you are looking to backup apps, use titanium

Are you in the Recovery mode or in ROM Manager? In ROM Manager I just choose to backup current ROM, then it restarts into recovery mode and does all of the work for me.
I am in recovery, not ROM manager but I guess I can do it through there too. As long as I get it backed up, thats all that really matters I guess. I want to do a backup so if I go to a new ROM I want to try I can just restore my existing one if the new one doesnt work out.
I've done that through rom manager with no problem. To me, that is the safest path. Good luck.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Rom manager will not work with certain roms

So now i installed semaphore 2.5.0 and it comes with cwm ofcourse which removes stock recovery
any way i can get stock recovery back?
because i want to unroot and remove everything that isnt stock on the phone
firmware: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVU-CL851880
[email protected] #Semaphore_2.5.0sc
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJVZ
bump le bump
Hi,
Have you made a Nandroid backup before installing this kernel? As far as I know, a Nandroid restore also restore Recovery.
Another possible solution, have you tried flashing, via Odin, I9000XWJVZ stock firmware (you can download it from sammobile.com).
In any case, consider doing a Nandroid backup before any action on your phone.
Hope it might help you.

1-restoring a nand backup won't bring back the old recovery as the nand backup was made through CWM. if u have a nand backup u can restore it and push (with dd codes and terminal emulator, through odin, recovery flashable zips etc..) these 2 files boot.img and recovery.img extracted from a stock rom-same version as ur nand backup. (just be careful u push them in the right place)
2-Flashing a stock rom through odin will get u back to stock recovery.

Flash a stock samsung ROM without bootlooder using odin. That will bring back stock "android system recovery"
flash again I9000XXJVT

In ClockwordMod recovery mode, you access it in "Backup" menu.
so if i flash a stock rom with odin(pda, phone, csc) it will bring everything back?

Here is what I would do to flash a stock ROM:
- Back up all your apps using Titanium Backup or Backup Everything (found on Android market)
- Back up all your SMS using SMS Backup (found on Android market)
- Shut down phone
- Enter recovery mode using 3 buttons combo (Volume Up + Home + Power)
- Make a Nandroid backup (Menu Backup & Restore > Backup), it will create a full image of your actual ROM in your SD card (folder clockworkmod > backups)
- Reboot
- Plug USB cable in (Connect your phone to computer)
- Copy all those new backup datas to a computer
- Ensure your battery is full
- Unplug USB cable (Disconnect from computer)
- Shutdown phone
- Enter download mode using 3 buttons combo (Volume down + Home + Power)
- Start ODIN, Make sure that the 'Re-Partition' option in ODIN is checked.
- In ODIN, select the files in PIT, PDA, CSC and PHONE: (example file names)
.PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA: CODE_***.tar
PHONE: MODEM_***.tar
CSC: CSC_***.tar- Plug USB cable in your phone (connect to computer), a yellow box and a message "Added!" should appear in Odin.
- Click on Start.
- Do NOT touch anyhting while downloading.
- When phone reboots, disconnect the phone from the computer.
There you will have a stock ROM, stock recovery, just like when it was when leaving factory.
Optionnaly:
- Restore your SMS (via SMS Backup app)
- Restore some apps (via Titanium Backup / Backup Everything app)

And make sure Samsung Kies isn't running if it's installed on your computer.
> If anyone would like to confirm this procedure, It would be nice!
As it was said, the best way to get stock recovery is to install stock ROM via ODIN.
But I think that it should be enough to flash stock kernel only, not the whole ROM.
ok thank you all

So please keep in mind that i'm a total noob about this kind of thing.
So my phone is already rooted, and I have clockwork recovery installed and I was trying to backup my stock ROM, but it won't back up.
So I seen over the internet that I could backup from my recovery mode, but there is no option.
Is there anything I am missing?
Can anyone tell me please?
I heard about something called ODIN, but I have no idea what it is or what to install it.

When you go in recovery there is an option to back up the rom.. are you sure you are on CWM recovery?
Anyways if you are rooted, you can install app called Rom Manager and it has the option to take backup.. take a nandroid backup through the app and you are done..
ODIN is used to flash a rom to your phone and that will wipe everything you have on your phone (except that on internal and external sd card)

I went into recovery more and there is no option to "backup and restore".
And Yeah, I have ROM manager and that's how i'm using CWM recovery. It has the i9000, but not my i9001 :/.
I don't know what a nandroid backup is... hahaha sorry.

Hi,
I would give los or another AOSP ROM a try, but I don't want loose all my configs etc . I'm on OneOS is there a solution like nandroid backup (TWRP) to fully backup and restore my system if I don't like AOSP?
If I want to try aosp rom, how can I backup OneOS before? With twrp?

If you mean error 255 you can try this, worked for me:
Delete '/data/extm' folder.
EDIT: In TWRP, go in "Advanced" menu => "Terminal" => Type: rm /data/extm -Rf

Just don't forget to copy the backup to the PC while you are still in TWRP. If you boot the system, backup will be deleted. I don't know if restoring works, haven't tried yet.

Swift backup, can back up and restore your files, sms, call log etc. The only thing it doesn't back up is storage data. But for app data and the rest it works perfectly.
Use it to restore to derp and back to one os.
