Exchanging nexus 6 with nexus 5x would be better option ???
Perfomance wise? I believe it wouldn't be such a good idea, unless you are a lite user, and ready to face possible problems regarding quality and possible bootloop caused by hardware.
If you have decided, please make sure it's official dealer and offers warranty, just in case?
It depends what you want. I prefer to use a 6. 5x will be supported for a year longer.
Minus the camera and fingerprint sensor I think the Nexus 6 is better. It's all personal preference though. Snapdragon 805 > Snapdragon 808 in real world usage IMO. But maybe that was because my Nexus 6 was rooted with a custom kernel vs my friend's stock Moto X Pure Edition.
Noooooooo. You can count on the 5x being unofficially officially dead (see: bootloop issue). The only nexus phones worth anything now are the 6 and 6p, and Google's ending support for the 6 soon, although there will obviously be ROMs for years to come.
Personally everything in the range of 4.7 to 5.2 ~ inches will feel like a downgrade for me. The major thing about the N6 IMO is the screen and the size, those features just make the phone feel higher grade in every aspect. If you don't care about the size you could go with the 5X, it has a 64 bit processor, better android development for that reason, still have 1 year of android updates, but other than that N6 will feel way better.
Here in the Netherlands the price of a N6 is $300 higher than the N5x.
So from the financial point of view - not wise - to change a N6 for a 5x

Nexus 6 is always a beast, build quality and its screen size... Snapdragon 805 is not a joke. I would not exchange it unless my nexus has any hardware issues... anyways after using a nexus 6 its hard to go ahead with any other ones cos of the feel and experience you will have... I would say...... no! no way a better option.

Not a personal experience but if you go to their forums or read online you can find out what kind of issues they are having. N6 is the last real Nexus device made by brand name OEM ( Motorola - owned by Google at the time and not Lenovo) unlike the 6p. The 5x was just a budget phone by LG, that lines up right next to their other 50+ budget phones... It just doesn't have personally

Once again, see bootloop issue. All Nexus 5x phones aside from ones that were fixed by warranty are as good as dead. It's only a matter of time.
Have a look at this and you'll be able to read up on the bootloop issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/5x-bootloop-cause-fix-t3476794

Note: I apologise if this isn't the appropriate section but I couldn't think of a better one than the N5 General forum. English isn't my native language and although I proof read the post several times it's still going to be fairly awkward.
The Nexus 4 and 5* were high end devices with unlocked bootloaders, direct support from Google, large communities and they were sold at a very affordable price off-contract.
The Nexus 6 is a high end device with an (supposedly) unlocked bootloader, direct support from Google, a large community...
...but it costs 300€ more. That's 380 US dollars. Oh and it's also a 6 inch phablet. Both ensures that the N6 isn't an option for a lot of people, myself included.
I came to the conclusion the N5 doesn't actually have a successor.
That is a huge issue for me because I will need a new phone in the next few months and I don't know what to get. There are the usual suspects from Samsung, HTC, LG and all the other brands but they aren't the same as the Nexus. They all miss the extremely clean Android experience. Even the N5's design is very modest (something I'm missing in the Nexus 6). The software is arguably worse, they don't get direct updates and they probably have a smaller dev community too. They all are much more expensive than the Nexus 5 was in 2013.
The OnePlus One still hasn't been launched yet and I would prefer a phone from one of the known brands.
Can I hope for a Nexus 5 (2014)?
And if I don't: Is there even a spiritual successor to the Nexus line of smartphones?
*You may argue with battery life and camera but they were still extremely competitive when they were released.
the moto X 2014 developer's edition
thank me later.....
Why do you "need" a new phone? I'm only getting the nexus 6 because I'm a nexus fan boy. If they said oh were nut making a new nexus I would be totally fine with the nexus 5 for another year. It's still blazing fast. Even faster with lollipop.
If I was too get a new phone right now and I didn't get a nexus it would be a don't z3 or z3 compact.

Buy the Nexus 5 in a different color once Android L come out.
Bam, you've got yourself a new phone.
In my opinion, there is no worthy successor to the N5 yet.
Maybe next year. A Nexus 5 (2015) with Snapdragon 810, Good 13MP Camera with Sony Exmor sensor and Xenon flash, 4GB RAM, 1080p IPS Display, Good build quality (metal frame), 3200mAh battery and Android M ...that would be a good successor.

Still a worthy flagship until 64-bit processors come out with apps that can use the potential.
But, if you just want something new, I'd get the OnePlus One. I have both, and my Nexus 5 gets used far less.
Nexus 5 isn't as young as 2013 but he's still the best phone for me :
- performance are very good, not the best in benchmark (41000 antutu v5 cm11 and elementalX) but there isn't any costumize from the constructor, that's why nexus 5 is more stable and the faster
- life time : i hope we will have 2-3 years google update, but we will have update from cyanogenmod after these years and many others workers, galaxy nexus still have many people who make up to date rom and enhancement
- The size is very goo
- the battery isn't very good but i heard that a company is working on a better battery for nexus 5, very easy to install
And futhermore, nexus 5 have one of the best screen, full hd. Phone with quadHD have a battery time like nexus 5 (but have 3200mha) and games performances are better on nexus 5.
But nexus 5 should have metal

How is the general responsiveness of the 1+1 compared to N5? We all love the N5 for its buttery smooth performance and huge dev support. Is that also there on the 1+1? Thanks.

Well I do want to get her the best there is and I was fairly certain it'd be a Nexus. Now that I've been thoroughly disappointed I'm looking for alternatives. I could get her a more budget oriented one, but it'd be less than ideal...

Giving a N5 to your mother isn't a good idea I think. If you don't have basic Android knownledges you can quickly complain about battery life and your mother will ask for a 'better phone'.
If I were you I would keep my N5 and buy another phone with a bigger battery for my mother.

Get her a Moto G instead. The 2014 edition is similar in size to the N5, and the lesser SoC feels snappy for just about everything besides gaming. Games will still run fine just not at quite the same level as the N5.
It's about $200 USD off contract and comes unlocked if bought direct from Motorola.
waa.. stop crying. the nexus one, nexus s, and the gnex were all more expensive. only the n4 and n5 were less. just because the n6 is bigger and cost more, then its not a replacement? deal with it or don't buy the next nexus. me, I'm always a nexus *****, so I'll get the n6 no matter what, as it IS the next nexus replacement.

The Nexus 5 has no place on the new site. This was speculated a while ago but just the feeling of it being off the store is awful.
I love the Nexus 5 with its quirks, endless issues and powerful specs at the price we never imagined.
Yep, not available for sale anymore https://store.google.com/product/nexus_5
I really do hope they replace it with another 5" device.
I'd love for there to always be both a "normal" phone and a phablet in the Nexus line.
Especially since I have no desire for a phablet, and I've only ever purchased nexus devices. I managed to skip the Nexus 6, but my N5 definitely won't last another year after.
I think it was taken off sale on purpose to push nexus 6 sales, me personally id rather have the 5. The 6 is nice but i know from nexus devices they are usually cheap and good for performance with a few corners cut, I couldn't buy the 6 for its price knowing there is better phones out there at a cheaper price

Loved my Nexus 5. Loved it. Slightly bigger screen (5'2"), bigger battery, it would have been perfect.
I sold it for the Moto Maxx (same specs as Nexus 6, also made by Motorola but 5.2" and 3900 mAh battery) but I still have fond memories. And my wife loves her Nexus 5.
For the specs it had and the price, it was fantastic.

I seriously hope they continue with the 5 inch Nexus series. Nexus has the best development community by far. We get all the new roms and features way before other phones.
I fear developers will jump ship to another brand if the only available Nexus is a 6 inch...

Technically discontinued is right. But I'd assume since the Nexus 5 is better or probably on par with most flagships nearly this long after it's 2013 release, people consider it as like a limited edition phone.. I'm on the fence. While I also feel that technically it is discontinued, I also feel like the value of the Nexus 5 may slightly increase because it's still a great phone for development and it's going to be harder to find, and the Nexus 5 IMHO was probably the best Nexus phone released to date, the Nexus 6 is a phablet and honestly don't know much about it's successor based on it's size I immediately figured it would be the wrong phone for me, plus I've heard the Nexus 6 had it's share of problems like any phone. Nexus 5 had their initial batches which were flawed in design somewhat and they updated the form factor for it.
(very proud to say I have a 32GB launch edition white Nexus 5 btw)

I own a red Nexus 5. I love it.
After a long looong thinking I made a decision: I buy a Nexus 6, today. Yes, a one year old device, instead a new Nexus 2015
In a first moment, when Google shows the new devices I was quite sure to buy a Nexus 6P; even though I ever look to Huawei with intrest and diffidence meantime. Test and video started, and showes a fragile/breakable device: scratch and bending tests are disarming. Moreover the test on build quality and the "how to fix" video showed a freak quality
I abandoned Nexus 6P idea....
Ok, probably the Nexus 5X will be my device: LG, build quality (easy fix) test good/passed, I like the good selfie camera, and the rear camera in the middle with laser AF. Yes I saw the video of N5 vs N5X... user experience looks quite the same... 2 years later, incredible... yes, only 2 gb RAM.... and basic version is 16gb ROM... really wierd for a 2015 Google phone!
And why not a Motorola Nexus 6?
Yes, why not? Is 1 year old, no fingerprint sensor, is big, no.... huge.... old, no Marshmallow native, no 2015 device... no... no...
Ok, keep calm.
With a Nexus 6 I will lost:
better selfie camera (compared to 6P and also to 5X)
Laser autofocus for rear camera
handy/practical device (definitely vs 5X)
USB type C, useful (It's about time!)
fingerprint sensor... I belive in it, useful, comfortable
With Nexus 6 I get:
good display, better than 5X, quite similar to 6P
good rear camera, with optical image stabilization... but without lare AF. IMO no far from both 2015 Nexus in term of user experience.
great CPU, best Snapdragon quadcore: probably very near to 5X and 6P in term of user experience
3gb of RAM, maybe not needed in daily use, but better than 5X
32gb ROM in basic edition, as basic edition of 6P, as top edition of 5X
great stereo speaker, very difficult to beat
wireless charging (f*ck the USB type C), incredible lack in both Nexus 2015... Google don't belive in wireless charge, for the future?
Nothing about aesthetic.. Is up to each one of us: but I don't like the 6P... probably black is the only way (for me) to tolerate the camera black band.
Very nice the N5X, and also the big Nexus 6 IMO.
Now.... In my country I buy Motorola Nexus 6 32gb with 100€ less than N5X 16gb version. And about at 50% of 6P price.
Done deal! :highfive:
Any comment is welcome
i think u make a right decision and i will not buy the Nexus 6P or 5X too, although i'm Chinese......

I was waiting for 5X and 6P to be released, but I was so disappointed with pricing in Europe, so I just decided to order myself a N6. Yes true. EU prices are fu*ing indecent, especially for 6P.
Size scare me away from N6, but also bewitch me.
Cross fingers for both of us :highfive:
I used to laugh at a guy in my office with a Galaxy Note, but as soon as I got my N6 it all became clear that this is a really good size for a phone. I was worried that it wouldn't fit in my pocket - it does, no problem. The screen is terrific, front stereo speakers, brilliant device. I haven't regretted it for a moment.
Even if the 6P didn't have the Snapdragon 810 I still wouldn't have upgraded. The N6 is plenty good enough for me until it eventually dies one day.

Really happened to me when I bought my Note1 in substitution to my old iPhone 3g!
I almost pre-ordered a Nexus 6P on its launch day. After further review I ended up going with a Nexus 6 as well. I have had no regrets! It is by far my favorite of any phone I have owned. I can not believe I only paid $350, $150 less than the 6P would have cost.
Is the 6P "better" than the 6? In my opinion yes it is, depending on how you look at it. But I do not feel that the 6P is $150 better than the Nexus 6.
You will love your Nexus 6! It is an awesome device. The SD 805 / Adreno 420 coupled with 3GB of ram is a solid performer and I feel it is future proofed for at least 2 years. The 2560x1440 display is amazing in my opinion, however it is my first device with an AMOLED display. The front facing stereo speakers are the best I have seen/heard on a smartphone. I also feel the camera takes a damn good picture. I have heard from others that it is not that great, but I can't see a difference from pictures taken on my Nexus 6 and my iPhone 6.
was also on the same boat. but i said to myself, why wont i try a 6 inch phone and see it for myself. and boom. i fell in love with it. 6p and 5x for sure are good phones. but the nexus 6 is a flagship as well. so basically, your not settling for something bad. u did settle for good. for the price way too cheap now. its pretty damn good deal
Same here. I wish it has the camera from the new Galaxy phones and the finger print reader but other than that it's a great phone for $300.
Also, I don't like the idea of having the finger print on the back. How can you unlock the phone while it's on the cradle, car mount or whatever? LG's back buttons make sense to be on the back but not the finger print reader like the 6P.

Wise buyer desicion.
I did the same too!, mine is just 2 weeks now , got it for $300 (32GB blue).I had 1+1 as daily drive but wanted a bigger screen - 6P is bigger but not enough and 6P is ~+$200 more than 6.
Then concerns of 810 and prospects of a nexus 6 2016 with 820 or more > May be worth waiting.
With Nexus 6 - So far so good , I adjusted the color tone and with Chroma - It is still in par with 2015 flag ships in normal use.
I wish Moto make another nexus 6" , even Sony or HTC is fine.
This one is also an interesting piece @$300 , If developers support it.
Yeah!
In Italy I paid 379 euro for 32gb blue.
6p cost is 699 fu.king euro... And you can bend it like a banana easy peasy.
Also the N6 screen is fantastic, really amazing. I like a lot in my first approach.
Looks a very good device... And Marshmallow looks kindly married with it!

This thing is huge! Just arrived yesterday and I was playing with it whole evening (after 5.1.1 and 6.0 updates together with 3 security patches) and almost whole day today. Battery is so much better in comparison to my N5.
I guess having my Moto 360 will help a lot to cope with the size .

I jumped on the same boat. N5x isn`t a big upgrade for my N5, N6p is a way too expensive and its build quality is not great. So I decided and I have placed order for N6 for a half price of N6p ( I live in EU). I also got a free chromecast 1st gen xD. The only thing I will miss its a figerprint sensor but I can live without out.
I too just got my nexus 6 on swappa for $279. It was only used for about 2 months and the previous owner had purchased the 6P. At first the size of the nexus 6 took a little getting used to but then it becomes a non-issue. Front facing speakers on this device are amazing and I think the camera is great in my opinion.

I'm not a Nexus 5X user, but from what I can tell, it is not a downgrade.
5X has a better camera, 5X has a better screen, 5X has a fingerprint scanner, 5X will get Android N officially from Google, 5X has a better battery life, 5X has USB Type-C and 5X has better speakers.
It is true though that Nexus 5 should be faster on Apps that do not utilize hexa-core CPUs.
As above, the camera is great, I don't need to take a proper one with me now, low light amazes me
The screen is nice, the n5 was brighter.
the fingerprint scanner is nice and convenient, power button is barely used, security is another subject with fingerprints,
The 5x has one speaker and thats par,
Battery life is great with display on, I guess that's what makes the display drain better than the n5
The nexus5x may take a while with os and kernel improvements to really get the benefits from 6 cores, the 2 big cores help with apps loading, takes little time to reload browser unlike the n5 did
I would say its an upgrade for me, glad I got it,I haven't looked back
For the lazy ones click HERE!
I think N5X is a good device overall (not at European prices though), but is not absolutely better than the original N5: it's less comfortable to hold with one hand, lacks wireless charging and its performances are often lower than the older model because of the disk encryption. What's more, I also find the 3.5mm jack on the lower edge a design flaw.
On the other hand, better camera and fingerprint sensor are welcome additions.
Wrapping up, I think the newer device is not worth buying, as long as the older N5 is supported by Google.

Less usable RAM thanks to 64 bit OS. Less user available storage.
Arguably crappier SOC if you are a gamer.
Other than that, its an upgrade.
No OIS, so I think it is a downgrade. The different with and without OIS is really large, especially for indoor.

its true less ram and storage but that didnt put me off, the specs on paper is not great, i could of gotten oneplus 2 but its not just the hardware that counts but the software. whats the point in having a high spec unit if OS optimization is bad (not aimed at oneplus), touchwiz is an example.

I am not a N5x owner and I bought my N5 only two months ago and I'm really enjoying it but I'm sure 5x is better, only that it is not what you expect to be after two years of tech development.
Nexus 5 had been build with very few compromises while 5x isn't built to be a flasgship and I think who own a N5 shouldn't buy a 5x only because it will not give the same feeling that unboxing a Nexus 5 gave you.
Conversely I suggest to who has never own a N5, but a previous nexus like 4 (I owned it too), to buy it but only at the right price. In Italy, where I actually live and at the moment I'm writing, a Nexus 5x 32GB costs 429€, I don't know if it's too much, you can tell, but the same shop offers a Galaxy S6 32GB at the same price. I like nexus world, just think that I sold a S6 flat to buy a N5 but I had 300 euro in the change and I will have never exchanged with a 5x at par, I'm not crazy, it's just not worth so much or as much as a S6
I was looking at one here in Australia but they are $300 more than I paid for my Nexus 5 and didn't seem like it was worth the extra money.

I think that the nexus 5x is a good upgrade over the five, And it's a good phone too. But considering the price, I can get better in that segment (I live in India) and I'd practically not buy the 5x.

I asked this same question a year ago, only in my case it was between the 6, 6P, and Moto X Pure/Style. The 6P was the first one eliminated, as the only real advantage it had over the other two was a fingerprint scanner. I ended up with the 6, and my roommate got the Moto X. ROM development is roughly as active as the 6P. After all, these are Nexus devices, intended for developers, and thus easy to create ROMs for.

Same situation, coming from a nexus 5. I choose n6 because of the price ... 200€ for a refurbished google unit with 2 years of warranty, it's great. I have to change my Nexus 5 because the battery never last a full day. Amoled display and front stereo speakers are great features.
Nexus 6 is still a high end device, especially for what most of us use it for. I personally own a Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 while using the 5 as my wifi hotspot and the 6 as my main phone device. The Nexus brand and the community that loyally supports it has been the unofficial beta testers for Googles new line, Pixel and future flagships. If you enjoy testing the latest Android OS and its many custom ROMs who push the limits of the Nexus 4 or 5 while perfecting many of them to create many of the stable ROMs we trust today.
Nexus 6 has one of the largest displays ever built and honestly its hard to give that up for a smaller one. Snapdragon Processor 808, 3GB RAM is more than fast considering most new phones are still not using processors that fast. My nexus 6 is still in nearly new condition and doesn't have any issues with the device overall. Plus I'm running the latest software 7.1.1 which most people have no clue what OS they have.
Nexus 6p has been Working out many bugs out associated with the Nougat update. So I am sure the 6p will be slashing prices very soon.

Snapdragon 805. The 808 is found in the Moto X Pure.
