Best Kernel
Hi can someone post a link for the best kernel to use with MRom, I tried the Z4_Z3P-DSDS_SK_Perm_v5.11_III.2_4_9_ctl_X_ivy_dual however the moment I flashed it the phone got crazy hot even after adjusting the frequencies also experienced problems with certain apps closing, camera doesn't even last seconds before it turns off, I had to flash back stock kernel to get function-ability. Not sure if that was the correct version for me to flash so I'm asking or if there is any tips to making it work. Thanks :good:

So I installed the latest sun kernel yesterday (v2.6), and had the phone running an entire day with it. In all honesty it was pretty smooth I still haven't noticed any bugs, lags, force-closes, etc. The only thing is a slight difference with temperatures compared to stock kernel see in pic (stock kernel left, sun kernel right). I have placed pics to show the differences, as for battery life I haven't been able to compare them as of yet. However I can say using stock kernel with minimal usage over a period of 9 hrs after full charge I got down to 57% so I will test the same with this latest sun kernel. The only other thing I am curious about are the CPU's, reason being with stock kernel the 4 big cores always showed offline using Kernel Auiditor and I can't adjust the frequencies. With this sun kernel it's the same situation. The 4 big cores are always offline and just remain that way at start up one of them becomes active for a couple of minutes with a frequency of 384MHZ then goes offline. Any insights as to why this is so would be appreciated. Any feedback will be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I've manage to figure out (not really figure, more like a hunch/guess) what went wrong. its the kernel.
now im using Apocalypse ROM [Firekernel OC] by itasoulas
Im really sorry but I dont understand any of the tech stuff posted here, but what I do know is that my 1 yr old battery on my Ace is like worth 3 minutes of calls now (only)!!!

Hey,Check how much you have clocked your phone at and the governer
Settings>CyanogenModSettings>Performance(press OK for the warning)>CPU Settings; If the governor is ONDEMAND, change it to Smartassv2 and increase Min value to 245. I use Apocalypse and my battery life is awesome(check the attachments).
Second lower your screen brightness simple yet effective. also increase the Max value in the CPU settings to 902 for zero lag. Also set the network to only 2G if you dont want your 3G on all the time. This saves lot of battery life too.

DCTopTeam - u can check the physical battery condition whether is bloated (feels expanded), this is an indicator that the battery is about to die
Flash a kernel, i recommend The ace kernel beta 4, it is discontinued, but has no bugs, a long battery life included

After so much experimentation and flashing, I think it's finally time to settle down on a single good ROM for a while. Can someone recommend a good stable rom (2.3 or above) which has a great battery life? My data(2G) remains on all the time and I need good battery life to make it through the day.

Revision 8.4
-changed boot animation
- almost same ui, framework but added transitions
- fixed the ringlock controls with the radio issue
- A lot of widgets
Bugs:
- xLoud bug...
-battery goes out quite rapidely(?? confirm anyone?)

I use version 8.4! It's just for stock kernel. No I didn't overclock and I didn't undervolt.
No I didn't use data, gps, videos. I just play music, browse on wifi. And I use 2G all time! I delete unused running services!
On some rom,I don't use music,videos,wifi,gps... 2g all time... but I get just 2/3 days!
First time posting here. And first time user of custom ROMs.
I recently unlocked my Incredible S and flashed VivoKat 4.4 by szezso on it. It is a nice build and most things work in beta quite well; however, I don't have permissions to post on that board to report bugs and ask other build related questions, like how is battery life compared to other ROMs.
I noticed I barely get 1 battery charge per day, whereas I used to get 2 days with my old gingerbread.
So I was wondering if I should go with an older ROM, feature complete, that might have better battery life. If so, which build do you recommend?
Thanks
PS: to the guys on the VivoKat thread (since I can't post there), here are some of the bigger bugs I found:
- microphone doesn't work on speaker mode
- physical buttons don't work if you disable touch-vibration on them
- main screen icons/shortcuts disappear from time to time if the apps crash
Question:
- to install today's update of VivoKat do I need to wipe everything (all data) and flash the new version, or can I update without wiping everything clean?
- I have the full "ROM manager" app, but it doesn't find updates for this build. Will that be available at some point?
(I really like the look of 4.4 on this custom ROM so it's be nice to help out with finding bugs - good work szezso)

That's the actual battery life. With each new android version, you have a lot more processes running in the background. A lot more Google processes too
It should be ok to just flash the update, but if you run into bugs, don't report them as developers don't have a way of telling whether its from issues caused from dirty flash or from the actual ROM itself.
No it will never be available in the ROM manager app. ROM Manager does not search XDA for ROMs and VivoKat is ported by Szeszo personally.
Thanks.
That answers my questions.
And battery life improved after turning off "Location"
You can also log-out from different accounts such as fb, and so one. some of apps are eating battery. For example some email clients...
moreover, you can turn off wifi
you use Vivokat as your daily driver, that one seems still in beta stage

Overclocking uses more battery because of both freq and voltage
Simple equation is this
Power used= freq * voltage^2
So if you lower the voltage to the same as the prev max freq, then you will be using more power still. Just fyi cause I don't think it's ever been brought up around here

Voltage changes should make a lot of difference too. But not as evident on the vivo as on big quad core snapdragons
The Gpu oc is not really overclock, it's forcing to 245mhz to up performance
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i did not explain my kernel.
the kernel that i using is default overclocking.
my work just tweak it to the normal.
before tuning, in idle situation, one day could consume a battery.
after tuning, a battery could use more than one day.
i just want it back to normal.
i do not know that it is really OC, but according to my test.
the frequency is actually higher that it default.
up to 353Mhz, default is 245M.
so i could sure it is overclocking.
this data is collected in it's kernel, the real runtime data.

kernel code is GPL, if you got it from a publicly available source then no permissions really needed
If you come up with anything that you think may be beneficial.. maybe me or @szezso can work on integrating it or you can post it somewhere

the most benefit thing to me for now is to create other branch that did not overclock the GPU.
it will help solve the battery consume problem.
And split the kernel version, i need to manually search commit to find the cm 10.2's kernel.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Q) My Bootloader Is Locked But Can I Try This Without Unlocking?
A) No. Flash this Only if you are on UBL.
Q)I'm On Locked Bootloader Please Help Me Unlock My Bootloader/Root My Phone
A) Please don't ask such questions in this thread. THere are many other threads in General Section Which Can help You.
Q) Can I dirty flash build X over Build Y?
A)(X&Y being both AICP Official Nightlies) If you want to, you may. But Report Bugs Only If You Have Clean Flashed.
Q)"ROM feels laggy after a few days of usage. Please Help Me"
A)
Go to your build.prop. At the end add these lines
dalvik.vm.image-dex2oat-filter=everything
dalvik.vm.dex2oat-filter=everything
Then Go To recovery and wipe cache/dalvik cache (don't skip this step or it won't work!!!!)
basically it makes ART compile more stuff than just the usual apps. it optimises many things.
Downside of this is a slightly longer booting time (AICP Had This Before but has now been removed)
Q) " Help!!! Can't flash anything because of ugly Cyanogen Recovery"
A) Go download Rashr from playstore and flash philz from that app or search for a TWRP Image and flash it with Rashr
Q)FM Transmitter range is very less.
A)Take your standard headphones/earphones/whatever you call it and insert it halfway into the headphone jack. Not completely, just halfway so that the phone doesn't recognise the earpods. Then transmitter range will be improved.
Q)You call it nightlies, yet an update doesn't come on a night to night basis
A) Nightlies for huashan are built in every 36-48 hours gap on the build server
Q)I want to have a lollipop xperia styled AICP
A) Install XperiaPOP Z4 Theme, [if you want you can download some more wallpapers from the link at my signatture] then search for ibanez 7 sony apps port for cm12 and install your choiced apps and enjoy a near to sony experience.
Note: This is what I do, if you have a better setup, please do share and I'll update it here
Q) How do I know when AICP for huashan is going to be built?
A) Here visit this link : http://jenkins.aicp-rom.com/job/android/
Note: If any one else wants to build a cm12.1 based ROM for XSP, here is my local manifests file, feel free to download it and use it

Lagging a lot
I installed this rom 3 days back.
Initially it looked pretty nice but on installing apps and other stuff it started lagging.
Random Hanging is quite common.
is this the problem with everyone or i am the only one ?

did you flashed the latest build ? anyway ...install greenify app it will help,, and flash t-kernel(v5.2) and then go to kernel auditor in settings>>AICP and set cpu governor to smartassv2 and cpu clock speed to 1.8 ghz

Update.
I flashed new build (Build 3) + Tangerine v5.2 and it got worst :crying:
Now the display flickers and doesnt show the notification.
I tried to enable/disable ambient display, but it didnt work.
Anyone knows why this is heappening?
I'll keep trying to fix it.
i wondering is there any apps for xperia or any setting on this rom that make the LED light to turn on individually (like when charging only 1 led glow), i would like to set all notification to only using 1 led
also is there any way to make status bar icon (wifi, signalbar, battery icon) more narrow ?
thank you very much

only the charging is one led. led notification is always 3 bars but you can lower its brightness by setting the color of choice near black
Sent from my Xperia SP using XDA Free mobile app
can i suggest new function?
i just want to suggest a function known as QUIET HOURS you can see this function in CM11... .
coz this function is very helpful to me.. thanks

Im a bit confused whith the auditor . i need my phone to be smooth in lag free in game ( even big games like real racing 3 ) but not that full throttle that drains battery fassst ! Need something kinda balanced i guess .
I put max frq to 1.8 gov to smart . gpu to 400 and io to zen. What els ?
If this drains battery fast then tell me two diff set up. Mid use (lght games ) and heavy performance . tnx

Unfortunately there's no option to pick individual LED's for notifications. Fortunately, as has been mentioned quite a few times before, the color of the LED's can be changed to reduce the brightness.
Do you mean reduce the icon size or the space between em? Either way don't think there's any such options in the ROM to do that but you could try some themes and pick one with statusbar icons more to your liking. Just apply the status bar part of the theme if that's all you want.
Also maybe you could check Xposed modules to see if there's one that might let you make the changes you want to though I do not know of one.

it's very smooth right now..no fixes needed ...put cpu governor to smartassv2 and cpu to 1.8 .....and yes for sure the t-kernel is recommended(v5.2)

don't worry my friend t-kernel v5.2 is safe and recommended for better smoothness

So after flashing t-kernel 5.2 u need to change governor to smartassV2 and cpu to 1.8?
If I do so will the battery saving steps in post 3 work?
And ya one more thing is xposed working fine on this ROM?
(Missing that piece of hell since KitKat!?)

the flickering screen have no solution my friend ....it's a problem between a lot of users ....if you want to adapt with it just put a colorful wallpaper and theme
for t-kernel after installing it did you put the cpu governor to smarassv2 and the cpu clock speed to 1.8 ?
you should do that

for me these settings are the best and they don't drain battery for me....for big games when you play them put the GPU governor to performance and play after you finish put it back to ondemand and to 200mhz

If you want GPU intensive games to run lag free, then you need your cpu/gpu operating near its max level and that costs battery life. On the other hand if you're gonna run these type of games with reduced cpu/gpu settings then you will get choppy performances. Can't have it both ways I am afraid.
Also everyone's phone is gonna have different battery life even with the same kernel aduitor settings depending on everything else going on on their phones. It seems like you are asking for more tweaks even before thoroughly testing out the ones you know of on your own phone.
Now if you are playing light/medium games which don't require as much cpu/gpu power and you wanna extend battery life, you can always drop your cpu/gpu clocks and change the CPU governor. Maybe something like Conservative or even Powersave(locks the CPU frequency at the lowest frequency set by the user). Also enable Multicore Power Saving. Latest kernel doesn't have undervolting option or you could have tried that.
Disable Auto brightness and reduce the brightness.
Greenify/kill background apps while playing games.

Hello guys I got some huge problems here.
I recently switched from my Z2 to the Z3+ and actually like the phone but the overheating is insane and especially kills Pokemon Go through CPU throttling, which runs smoothly on my old Z2 .
So far I am on 253, cleaned it up and tried a self modified and the zach beta9 Kernel and and runs quite bad on both. Is heating a lesser issue of 224? I actually do not want to reflash the whole system to 224 just to find out it doesn't get better.
Also is there a way to undervolt/underclock? I can change settings in Kernel Aduitor but I have the feeling the phone doesn't really care.
Help much appreciated - thanks!
Try Zach beta 8 kernel. Limit max cpu frequency by kernel auditor.
Still it's only your Goodluck if your device cools down. It's a bitter truth about this model.

Do you have a clue whether 224 or 256 make a difference?
I will try beta8 and report back.

no there was no thermal improvements between these builds, dont flash your system back
but do underclock and tell us the results!
Im also affected by your exact problem
Try this kernel, seems promising. I haven't tried it since it doesnt have twrp.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...m5z-kernel-t3421630/post67813517#post67813517
Edit: Today I have flashed 256, haven't found any improvement. As per my experience 256 haven't brought any noticable change.
**** posted twice and dont know how to delete
Thank you for the replies!
Tested zach beta8, didn't help. Now I am testing http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/orig-development/kernel-om5z-kernel-t3421630/ as suggested and if that doesn't help much also with http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/kill-overheating-flash-zip-t3421782.
And Stamina Mode helps at least a bit.
Statusreport: It always runs bad. But best at the moment with root patched Stock Kernel (253) and that underclocking zip. Although I think that underclocking doesn't really help at all.

What are your temps? When does it start to throttle? Done any thermal-conf configuration to allow more heat?
---------- Post added at 21:03 ---------- Previous post was at 20:58 ----------
I know that @Trilliard has a very good and stable cpu governor where he has disabled two of the little and two of the big cores, this helps a lot if you underclock the remaining 4
Here are his files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/dont-custom-kernels-want-to-avoid-idle-t3409647
UPDATE: Added my edited files used to apply CPU tweaks (cores down clocked to 0.9 and 1.2ghz, two core disabled, tweaked cpu governor, power and others mods) and these files located in etc folder. Replace them and set correct permissions then reboot.

Actually I didn't know about this combination - I will try it thanks!
Do you know about a thermal-conf? Actually never tried one. The phone gets hot indeed but I still think there might be some space before it actually melts.

Thats what i thought as well i have my own here, its based on another persos post, but i dont remember where...
Anyways, his camera mod worked, but cpu throttle was not tampered with, and it caused a very unbalanced throttling... Ok yay i can use the camera linger and fluently, but when i exit the camera app, i cant use the phone couse its runnig at 348 mhz...
So i i did some modifications to it cpu never get under 840 for little cores, so your phones menues end web browsing are always safe from performance drops.
I made it to be able to play Pokemon go, and achieved a lot better resault than without any changes.. still prefer playing on my shield tablet, but if i dont have it around when theres a lot od pokestops nearby, then this will work for me.
While playing Pokemon go it does not go over 80 degrees, but using snapshat it can get to 85, so dont use snap for to long
Let me know if it worked for you!

Im using stock kernel, may switch to another soon. Im using stock bcause of batterylife and idle power consumption
Im using the governor and cpu modifications in this post ; http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/dont-custom-kernels-want-to-avoid-idle-t3409647
Hmm. Still runs ****ty.
Can anyone give me a short guide how to edit thermal and governors?
According to my observations the phone gets hot and then cold. I think the throttle is more aggressive and needed and I want to make it less aggressive.
Update:
I made my own modifications to the thermal engine. It is pretty bad for battery I guess but I had a very good expierence playing Pokemon Go with it today. Yes the phone gets hot. Like it doesn't drop below 70°C while playing and regulary hits 80°C but it works good. No dark screen, no 0 CPUs downclocking. So far it's fine for me, maybe I get squeeze even more out of it.

Still working good for me. Not sure if I can really squeeze out more and as long as it works at the moment I do not have a good motivation to try anything else.
No idea about SoT. Always running around with a powerbank. Probably bad, it is not designed for good battery life.
